    Also, when it comes to using the bodies of condemned and executed criminals in the West, look no further than epileptics. They used to, up to the 19th century, literally take bowls and cups to public executions to gather that criminal blood to drink as a treatment for their condition.

    Furthermore, in a world where Sanson was famous, you can't say executioners couldn't have become celebrities in the West.

    So they do use it as medicine. Good to know. As for Sanson, at least the F/GO portrayal does feel remorse over his actions. http://fate-go.cirnopedia.org/craft_...ssence=307#nav Chinese executioners who "performed" Death by x Cuts had the same pride as an artist creating a masterpiece, like a legally sanctioned Bluebeard.

    Maggot Baits makes the Gospel of Judas out to this super secret thing, but I just found it on .pdf. This just made me realize that it's also now ridiculously easy to download the Buddhist texts that Sun Wukong and the others worked their butts off to find in Journey to the West.

    I started digging throught the "YHWH was originally a polytheistic deity"* thing, so I finished the Baal's Cycle and some other things about Ugaritic-Phoenician + Old Testament myths, and... I like it. The whole thing about the Rise and Fall of Baal as random god, then the king, then a demon (and YHWH as new king), his rivalry with Mot (The Death), the relationship with Ashera and yandere Anath etc.

    *Pslam 81 (Old Testament)
    God (YHWH) stand up in the great assembly:

    “How long will you defend the unjust
    and show partiality to the wicked?
    Defend the weak and the fatherless;
    uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
    Rescue the weak and the needy;
    deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

    “The gods know nothing, they understand nothing.
    They walk about in darkness;
    all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

    “I said, ‘You are gods;
    you are all sons of the Most High (Elyon).’
    But you will die like mere mortals;
    you will fall like every other ruler.”

    Rise up, O God, judge the earth,
    for all the nations are your inheritance.

    In fiction, it's the bad guys who say stuff, like "what is a man" or "I am become death". IRL, it's the good guys who say it.

    Also, this is something that I've thought for a long time, but: https://journeytothewest.fandom.com/wiki/Characters Specifically, the line: *Sun Wukong sees through their disguise and tells Zhu Bajie when the latter asks him if he detects any demons in the vicinity. Zhu Bajie then destroys all the trees. Tang Sanzang is shocked and he scolds Zhu Bajie for killing innocents because the spirits never harmed him, but Sun Wukong explains that it is best to eliminate the spirits now in case they become evil in the future.* Basically, how the Japanese justified killing "potential guerillas" during WWII or Americans justified killing "potential guerillas" during the Vietnam War. I'm sure the Third Reich had the same thought process.

    The Taiping Rebellion was a Christian rebellion against the Qing Empire. As such, a requirement for all of its members was to be Christian. On the other hand, the Imperial forces didn't care what religion you were, so long as you also kneeled before the Emperor and got the Manchurian queue haircut. The prequel web novel of Candle in the Tomb involves a character who eventually joins the Imperial army. This same character also practices the local religion of a small town that he resides in. I wonder if it is a coincidence that that particular town worships a cat god. FYI, the Egyptians, the so-called "villains" of the Exodus story, also found cats to be sacred...

    So Chernobog was smeared by Christians, who insists that the "ruler of the underworld" is evil, just like Hades?

    I never had realized that in the Iliad, the gods supporting each side were mirrored: two gods of war (Athena vs. Ares), but also two goddesses of "love" (Hera vs. Aphrodite) (let's ignore the rest for now).

    Moreover, the Trojan gods of war and of love were "defeated" by Diomedes, who was the friend of Athena and king of Argos, whoch is one of Hera's favorite cities.

    And in the end, Troy is conquered by guile rather than might (Athena > Ares), and Menelaus gets his wife back, his marriage triumphing over a romantic fling (Hera > Aphrodite) (though that's not in the Iliad proper I suppose)

    Homer really was s-m-r-t

    has it ever occurred to you guys how Christianity was originally a Jewish sect about some king pretender defying roman occupation that got the L and was rumored to be revived but never did and now instead of the Jews, everybody can join that club which essentially means christians are ''Neo Jews'' in a sense?

    reminder that the Abrahamic/Yahwehistic religions are a branch of the Mesopotamian pantheon/religion. which retrospectively mean Mesopotamia religion is technically the most dominate in the world right now, albeit in a monotheistic fashion.

    Not necessarily the original legend, but rather why a particular legend is interpreted so commonly in a certain way: Is Odin the god of PTSD? In both Warriors Orochi and Venusblood Frontier, Odin, post-Ragnarok, is essentially the SMT version of Yahweh. Playable Odin in VBF literally had to seal away her memories (and mammaries) to avoid becoming that way (which she remembers in full in chaos route). Both works use Odin to show how the horrors of war can screw up someone. Is that a coincidence or something from the original legend?
