Building computers today is extremely easy. Just take your time and read the instructions, you'll be surprised at how plug-n-play it is.
Installing a CPU cooler is a bitch and a half though (not shitty stock snap on coolers though)

Their design is nothing special, I don't know why that card gets pulled so often.

Apple has better long term support for their devices (easier to do when you control your hardware) better SoCs, faster internal memory, better cameras (though they're no longer the best of the best in phone cameras), stronger ecosystem, more straightforwards development, etc
I don't personally own any apple devices (unless you count this macbook my work gave me) but if I wasn't anal enough to personally maintain all my electronics, I'd probably be running Apple.
Then again I kinda hate OSX compared to Win7/10 so maybe not.

They don't have better support for their devices, they have a chokehold on them. There was one guy who almost got his YT channel taken down by them because he was showing people how to fix Apple products without having to take them in for a $160 repair.

iphone 4 got supported for like 4 years, sure it ran like shit on the newer iOSes but hey, they supported it. Even the nexus line barely got 3 years of support.
as far as hardware support goes, they might hate you trying to fix shit yourself but, generally speaking, most of these iphones still last a good number of years as long as you don't smash them to bits or (before waterproofing) drop them into a puddle. Applecare might cost money but they'll at least replace your phone quickly. Trying to get my mom's old Nexus 4 RMA'd was a month long pain in the ass.

When I just started undergrad I had people tell me to get a mac asap cause I won't survive in the school or field without one. See MS giving students free OS and software for life and half of the software we use not even having mac versions.
