    Great job!

By the way what is Asagata ni-chome?

Is that like a district of the city or something?

I wish they would elaborate on the Sakura POV because that part was a bit lacking in the original

Hey, EDreamer here. I've translated the prologue of the manga, using a physical copy I ordered for myself since no scans of the original Japanese seem to be forthcoming. I'm also planning to release a scanlated version (using the Chinese scanlation as a base) with the help of someone else, so stay tuned for that in the near future as well. Just to note, however, I am NOT translating this series as a whole; I just felt that it was a shame that the prologue was still untranslated, especially since it contains completely new content unlike the rest of the chapters so far, so I decided to work on just the prologue as a little side project.

Here's a link to the Chinese scans to follow as you read: http://imgur.com/a/qxfFA

By the way, for those who haven't read the walkthrough guide for the VN, the title refers to the "Two Days Before" in the Prologue section of the VN, which is basically the first day of the story from Rin's point of view. Therefore, this chapter can probably be chronologically placed on the first day as well, starting from the late hours of the night to the early morning before Shirou wakes up in the shed.

(Minor Note: The Servant summoning chant has often been translated differently by various people, so I based it on the commonly accepted translation I know of to get it as accurate as possible.)

Shinji: That’s what I just said.

    Shinji: Look.
    This is the proof!

Shinji: Y-You understand this thing’s power, right!?

    Rider: Is that so?

    Shinji: Huh?

    Shinji: What’s with that?
Just how are you a hero?

Shinji: (Actually, isn’t she a monster killed by a hero?)

    Rider: ……

    Shinji: Damn it…! But, well,
in the end, it just means I’ll have to take command…

    Shinji: All right…
    You will follow my directions.

Shinji: Don’t even think about disobeying!

    Page 17

Shinji: For now, let’s talk about our plans from here on.

Shinji: I think that in this Holy Grail War—

    Shinji: Hmm?

    Shinji: Hey… go back upstairs.

Shinji: You have no business being here, right?

    Shinji: Hurry up and go!

    Shinji: Geez. You’re such a dullard…!

    Sakura: (Those weren’t my memories.)

    Sakura: (I’ll be fine.)
    Sakura: (...It’ll be all right.)

    06

Shirou: Huh?! What am I doing?

    Shirou: I can’t believe it...
Shirou: I made too much food just because I was bored.

Shirou: One sky doesn’t need two suns…
Sakura: Eh… you went to all that trouble, but aren’t you going to eat it, Senpai?

    Shirou: No, I’ll eat it.
Shirou: I didn’t plan on it, but if I prep lunches— wait,
    Shirou: Ehhhh?!

    Sakura: Good morning, Senpai!

    07

Shirou: Oh, you came over. Morning, Sakura.
Shirou: Breakfast is ready, so go relax in the living room.
    I’ll pour you some tea.

Sakura: Okay. Everything is perfect this morning, Senpai!

Sakura: But aren’t you going to make lunch?
Shirou: Yeah… I guess it turned out that way.

Sakura: Then can I help too?
    I’ll make my own portion.
    Shirou: Oh, wait.
Shirou: In that case, I’ll give you some of my side dishes.
Could you boil the rice for me?
    08

Sakura: Yes, leave it to me! I’ll help you.
    Will two scoops be enough?
Shirou: Yeah, that sounds about right.

Taiga: Mornin’ everybody! Something smells good!

    Sakura: Good morning, Fujimura-sensei.
Taiga: Oh? Are you and Shirou making breakfast together, Sakura-chan?

Sakura: No, Senpai and I are making lunch.

Taiga: I see, I see! Morning is a good time to do that, isn’t it?
    Taiga: How fun!

Shirou: ...yeesh, she’s still half asleep in the mornings.
Shirou: What’s fun about standing around in the kitchen before school?

    09

Shirou: Sorry, Sakura… I know you have morning practice.
I thought I’d let you take it easy today for helping me so much yesterday.

Sakura: Not at all… I think it’s fun being here in the kitchen.

Shirou: Well, I appreciate the help—

Shirou: But if you’re always spending time at my place you won’t have any free time.
    Sakura: Ahaha… it’s okay.
My hobbies are archery and cooking.

Sakura: By the way, my future goals is to surpass you in cooking,
Sakura: and I’ll catch up to you soon!

Sakura: So, please don’t worry about me.
I’m happy to cook here, and I enjoy getting better at it.
Sakura: I have to repay you for teaching me to cook… and I may as well be of help while I do it.

    10

    Shirou: ...mrgh.
Shirou: Basically, you’re saying that you’re stealing all of my techniques every day?

    Sakura: Yes. Prepare yourself.
Sakura: Soon, I’ll make you admit defeat.

Shirou: (Wow, she went and said it)
Shirou: Sigh….... you didn’t even know what salad dressing was before you started coming over.
Seriously… when did you start trying so hard?
Shirou: Food is just something to make normally.

Sakura: Not at all… the way you cook tastes delicious, Senpai.
Sakura: I can’t just do it casually!

    Shirou: ???
Shirou: —Oh, looks like it’s about done.

    11

    Shirou: Here, Sakura.
Shirou: Take these to the dining table.
    Sakura: Yes. Good work—

    Shirou: …Sakura?

Sakura: ...Senpai, that blotch on your hand…
    Shirou: Blotch?

    12

    Shirou: Huh… you’re right.

Shirou: That’s weird… I don’t remember hitting it on anything.

Shirou: Sorry, can you take care of the rest?
Shirou: I’m going to put a compress on it.

    Sakura: (Senpai…)
    Sakura: (—It couldn’t be... )

    13

Sakura: I’ll be heading off first.
Shirou: Sakura… if you’re not feeling well, why not take a break from the club?

Sakura: No, I’m fine. I just have a slight headache.
    I’m feeling great, actually.

Shirou: Even though you didn’t eat a bite during breakfast?

    Sakura: ...Excuse me.

Sakura: Senpai, you should rest too.

    14

Shirou: I wonder if Sakura has a cold.
Shirou: (This is the first time I’ve seen Sakura feeling so unwell.)

Shirou: (It’s been three years since I met Sakura,)

Shirou: (and a year and and a half)
Shirou: (since she started coming over.)

Shirou: (----Maybe I should go check on her after school…)

    15

    Shirou: Patrol cars?

    Shirou: I wonder what happened…

    Ayako: Hey! Morning, Emiya.

    16

    Shirou: Morning, Mitsuzuri.
Shirou: You still haven’t changed yet?
    You’ll be late for homeroom.

    Ayako: Ahahaha! Well!
Ayako: You’re as cold as always, Emiya!

Shirou: ...By the way, how’s club going?
    Shirou: ...Especially this morning.

Ayako: Oh? How odd of you to take an interest… Emiya, you always shut down whenever the topic of the club comes up.
    Shirou: Ah… well.

    Ayako: Honestly, not good.

    17

    Shirou: Eh?

Ayako: Yesterday, one of the first year boys quit.

Ayako: Seems like Shinji made fun of the kid after he’d just picked up a bow for the first time.
    Shirou: (Ah, Shinji…)
Shirou: Wait, what? And you just let that slide?

    Ayako: As if I would!
But I’m busy with a lot of stuff as club captain.
Ayako: You know as well as I do that I can’t always be in the dojo!

Shirou: Well, that’s true. ...man, what was Shinji thinking?
Shirou: Even if he’s a stricter teacher than most,
It’s not like him to make an example out of a newbie.

    Ayako: I’m amazed.
You really are what they say about you.

    18

Ayako: Shinji’s one and only guy friend.
Shirou: ...mm? Anyway, why did Shinji do that?

Ayako: From what I heard, Tohsaka shot him down hard.

    Shirou: Tohsaka?

Ayako: Yeah, Miss Perfect in class 2-A. That Tohsaka.
Shirou: She has a nickname like that?
    Shirou: (It’s spot on, though.)

Ayako: Well, yeah. Because of that, I’ve been in the dojo this whole time making sure nothing else goes wrong!
Shirou: (I’m sure Tohsaka didn’t hold back in turning him down, either…)

Shirou: Shinji does have a bad temper… I guess things will be tough for a while. Good luck.
    Ayako: Sure, sure.
But Shinji never learns, you know?

    19

Ayako: If he calls out Tohsaka again and she dumps him, he might actually lay a hand on her.

Shirou: Even Shinji wouldn’t go near someone who’d turned him down before…
Ayako: But there’s no helping it if that someone approaches him, right?

    Shirou: Huh?

Ayako: I don’t know why, but Tohsaka often comes to watch us practice.
Ayako: Emiya, you quit so you wouldn’t have known.

    Shirou: (That’s oddly suspicious…)
    Ayako: Oh!

Ayako: I need to go change, sorry!
    Ayako: See ya!

Shirou: (She always sees everything through to the end.)

    20

Issei: Emiya… could I have one of those meat rolls?
    Shirou: Yeah, sure. But Issei…

Shirou: Why is your lunch so simple?
    Shirou: (Because of the temple?)

    Issei: (It’s not that.)
Issei: That’s just how my father likes it.

Issei: “There’s no room for luxury in the food of a junior monk. If you have a problem with that, fix it yourself,” he says.
So now I’m thinking about becoming the temple cook.
    Shirou: (Here ya go)
Shirou: I see, I see… well, I’ll just count this as another favor you owe me.

    Issei: You have my thanks.
Let this be a part of my training to beg for alms.
Shirou: (He’s definitely a son of the temple…)

Issei: By the way, Emiya, did you know about the commotion at Asagata 2-chome?

    21

Issei: I heard there was a murder.
Issei: Only the youngest child was saved, out of a family of four… it seems the parents and older sister were stabbed to death.

Issei: A construction accident in Shinto, and a murder over here.

Issei: Of course, we’ll have to send the students home earlier-

Issei: Sorry, this isn’t something to talk about over lunch.
    Shirou: Hm? Ah, nah

    Souichirou: Excuse me.
    Is Ryuudou here?

    Issei: Ah, yes.

    22

    Issei: What is it, Kuzuki-sensei?

Shirou: (Only the youngest child survived out of a family of four…)
Souichirou: The student council executive committee…
    Issei: Understood. After school, then.

Shirou: Well… I’ve got work today.

    Shirou: (But before that,)

Shirou: (I’ll just see if Sakura’s feeling any better.)

    23

Shirou: (Has she already left for club?)

    24

    Shirou: Sakura.

    Sakura: Senpai?

    Sakura: What is it?
Did you have business with my class-
    Shirou: No.

    25

Shirou: I was just worried about you.
Shirou: You looked like you weren’t feeling well this morning.

Shirou: If you’re feeling sick, why don’t you come home with me?
    Sakura: ...No, I’m fine.
    There’s nothing wrong with me.

Sakura: I’ll come over to your house for dinner after club finishes, as always.
    Sakura: There’s nothing wrong.

Sakura: So please don’t worry about me.

Shirou: Stupid, what are you saying while looking like that?

    Shirou: He

    26

    Shirou: You… you scared me…

Shirou: Are you sure you’re all right?
Shirou: Anyway, take club off today. I’ll skip my job today too, so...

Shirou: Besides, you know that there’ll be no point in showing up to club anyway, right?
Shirou: (Just what is wrong with her today?)

Sakura: ...But, my brother wants me to go, so…
    Sakura: So… I have to.

    Shirou: (Mrgh…)

    27

Shirou: (No matter how much I think of her as family,)
Shirou: (Sakura’s real family is the Matou house.)
Shirou: (As an outsider it’s not my place to comment on the affairs of siblings.)

Shirou: I see. Basically, you just need to show up for Shinji.
Sakura: Ah… yes. Of course, I can’t shoot today.

    Shirou: Okay. Sit here, Sakura.
    Sakura: Um… Senpai?

Shirou: I won’t stop you from going to club.
Shirou: In exchange, I want you to rest here for a while longer.

    28

    Shirou: Here, Sakura.

Sakura: ...Are you sure this is okay?

Shirou: Don’t worry. I’m used to having tea in the student council room,
and I didn’t see anyone in the hallway.

Shirou: It’s nice having tea in the classroom once in a while, right?

    Sakura: Yes… .you’re right.

    Shirou: Good… I think she’s feeling a little better.

    29

    Shirou: (Sakura is)
    Shirou: (frequently alone.)

Shirou: (She doesn’t avoid other people,)

Shirou: (but even when others are around, she’s often gazing off into the distance.)
Shirou: (That’s probably why she stayed in the classroom by herself.)

Shirou: (Sakura doesn’t actively seek out other people on her own.)
Shirou: (Fuji-nee and I are exceptions.)

    Shirou: (But if I)
Shirou: (hadn’t gotten to know Shinji…)

    30

Shirou: (Back then, she just felt like “a girl,”)
Shirou: (but at some point she became my junior, and lost that childish image.)

    Shirou: (Sakura’s grown pretty.)
Shirou: (But that’s… all the more reason it doesn’t make sense.)

Shirou: (Sakura’s a pretty girl, with a sensible and gentle personality.)
Shirou: (There are probably a lot of boys after her, too.)

    Shirou: (In spite of that,)
    Shirou: (Sakura is often alone.)

    31

Shirou: (It doesn’t seem like she’s made friends through the archery club,)
Shirou: (and it might even be that she doesn’t have friends in class.)

Shirou: (Now that I think about it,)

Shirou: (I wonder what Sakura does when she’s not at club or my house.)

    Shirou: (I have no idea…)

    Sakura: Senpai… do you remember?

    32

Sakura: This was a long time ago, before I knew you.

    Shirou: Er… you’re saying
Shirou: that it happened before we met?
    Sakura: Yes.

Sakura: Four years ago, I had just started middle school.
    Sakura: I saw something strange.

Sakura: Yes… how should I describe it?
Sakura: After school, I saw someone running on the grounds, even though there shouldn’t have been anyone there.

Sakura: When I went to see what he was doing,
Sakura: I saw that he was running the high jump.

    33

    Sakura: Hee hee.

Sakura: The campus and hallways were bathed in twilight,
Sakura: and in the middle of it all, someone was running.

    Sakura: Running and jumping,
Sakura: and trying again every time the pole fell.

Sakura: But the pole was much higher than he was tall.
Sakura: I think he knew that he couldn’t get over that pole.

    Sakura: But he kept trying.
    Again and again.

Sakura: Back then, I wasn’t a good girl.
Sakura: Something bad was going on in my life, and I wanted to take it out on someone…

    34

Sakura: So I wanted to see him fail.
    And I kept watching.

Sakura: But that person never gave up.
    Sakura: Over and over
Sakura: he attempted a futile task. I got scared just watching it.

Sakura: And he didn’t complain even once.

Shirou: ...Was he at his wits’ end or something?
Shirou: The normal thing to do would have been move the pole down a notch...

    Sakura: Ahaha… no, not quite.
After all, he wasn’t part of the track and field club.
    Shirou: Ah, I see…
    Shirou: (Why is she laughing?)

Sakura: He kept at it, and when the sun went down,
Sakura: that person cleaned up and went home.

    35

Sakura: He should have exhausted, but he just picked up and left as if nothing had happened.
Shirou: ...I don’t get that guy.
Shirou: Did he manage to jump it in the end?

    Sakura: Heh heh.
    Sakura: Well, about that…

Sakura: In the end, he couldn’t clear the pole.
Sakura: He accepted that he couldn’t do it after three hours of running.
Shirou: Wow. That story doesn’t even have a punch line.

Sakura: Yes. He was too straightforward.
In the end, I grew worried for him.

Sakura: I’m sure he was a very reliable person,
Sakura: but he seemed uneasy… and lonely.

    36

Shirou: Huh… well, I understand the story.
    But what about it?

    Sakura: No, it’s nothing.
That’s how I saw it, but to that person it must have been an everyday occurrence.

    Shirou: Ahh… Sakura.
    Shirou: In other words…

    Sakura: Yes.
Sakura: He was the upperclassman sitting in front of me right now.

Shirou: (Four years ago would have been right after Dad died…)
Shirou: (I did a lot of crazy things every day…)

Sakura: That’s what happened. I’ve known you since then, Senpai.
Shirou: I-I see. This is the first I’ve heard of it.
Shirou: (I put on a weird show for you)

    37

    Sakura: Yes.
Sakura: We were both looking at the same thing.

    Shirou: Huh…?

    Shirou: Ah, it’s the bell.

Shirou: Sakura, I’ll clean up, so you should get going.
    Shirou: Are you feeling better?

Sakura: Yes, much better thanks to you.
    Sakura: Thank you, Senpai.

    38

Sakura: Senpai, you have work after this, don’t you?
Shirou: Yeah. I’ll be back late so don’t force yourself to come over.

Sakura: No, it’s all right. I’ll just stop by to make dinner.

    Sakura: Good-bye.

Shirou: (Looks like she really is feeling better.)

Shirou: (Well, Fuji-nee is at home, too.)
    Shirou: (It’ll be fine.)

    39

Shirou: Oh, I still have a little time.

Shirou: (Guess I’ll chill in the park until it’s time.)

Shirou: (There’s nobody here, as always.)
Shirou: (Why don’t they plant new grass here or something? What a waste…)

    40

Shirou: (This is where I was saved from the brink of death in the great fire ten years ago.)

    Shirou: (I don’t remember much.)
Shirou: (Just that it was hot, and that I couldn’t breathe.)

Shirou: (People died trying to save others.)
    Shirou: I wonder why…

Shirou: (I don’t like that. I can’t accept that people who tried their best would become victims, too.)

Shirou: An ending where everyone is saved, and everyone can smile happily.
Shirou: It is greedy of me to wish for such an outcome?

    41

Kiritsugu: That's a difficult question, Shirou.
Kiritsugu: You’re talking about saving everyone.

Shirou: But Kiritsugu, you saved me even though you didn’t know me at all.

Shirou: You’re a magician who can do anything
Shirou: because you’re a hero of justice!

    Kiritsugu: Shirou… saving someone
Kiritsugu: means not saving someone else.

    Kiritsugu: Understand?
Kiritsugu: To be saved by a hero of justice—

    42

Kiritsugu: It means that the hero chose to save you.

Kiritsugu: Nobody can save everything, not even God.
Kiritsugu: With natural disasters, that’s all the more true. You can’t save everything, no matter who you are.

    Shirou: (I don’t like that.)

Shirou: (No matter how impossible it seems, I’ll extend a helping hand.)
Shirou: Oh, it’s time to go.

    Shirou: (That’s my duty)
Shirou: (as the sole survivor that day.)

    43

    Shirou: Good work today.
Otoko: Yeah, thanks. Nice job, Emiyan.

    Shirou: It’s eight o’clock…

Shirou: Fuji-nee’s probably tired of waiting for dinner… hm?

    44

    Shirou: (Tohsaka?)

    45

“Only the youngest child was saved, out of a family of four… it seems the parents and older sister were stabbed to death.”

Shirou: (I wonder what future lies in store)
Shirou: (for the kid that survived.)

My dream is to become a Hero of Justice.

Shirou: Even though it happened so close to home, there’s nothing I can do as I am now…

Shirou: I wonder if Sakura made it home safely.

Shirou: I’ll make a quick stop to check on her.

    46

Shirou: (Nothing seems out of the ordinary…)
Shirou: (Maybe I’m just being overprotective.)

    Zouken: Might
Zouken: you have some business with this house?

    47

Zouken: What’s wrong? You’re young. Why don’t you answer?

Zouken: If you won’t answer, shall I decide for you?

Zouken: Hmm… then you must be the suspicious stranger that Sakura spoke of.
Zouken: Can I assume that to be the case?

    Shirou: (Sakura…?)
    Shirou: (Is this man…)

Zouken: Good grief… but it is a request from my granddaughter.
Zouken: I apologize, since I don’t know you,

    48

Zouken: but I must make you suffer a bit.

Zouken: Just to be sure, wouldn’t you rather submit yourself to the public authorities instead?
Shirou: Ah… no, you’ve got it wrong!

Shirou: I’m a classmate of Matou Shinji, and a friend of Sakura… my name is Emiya Shirou.
Shirou: I was on a walk and thought I’d just check on them.

    Zouken: Oh? I see.

    49

Zouken: Then I won’t keep you any longer… I’ll call the two of them.
Zouken: Will you be having dinner with us?
Shirou: No, I was just passing by. I’ll go home soon.

    Shirou: But sir,
Shirou: has Sakura come home yet?

    Zouken: ...It’s Zouken.
    Shirou: Eh?

    Zouken: Matou Zouken.
Zouken: Since you’ve named yourself, it would be remiss of me not to do the same.

    Zouken: Sakura is already home.
Zouken: But more importantly, Emiya Shirou…

    50

Zouken: How fares the daughter of the Einzbern?

    Shirou: ...Huh?

    Shirou: Einz… what’s that?

Zouken: Don’t play the fool with me. It’s only logical for the daughter of the Einzbern to call upon an Emiya.
I’m asking you about the qualit of the vessel this time around.

Shirou: (Sakura… your grandpa is really hard to deal with.)
    Zouken: ...Hmph.
Zouken: It seems like you really don’t know.

    51

    Shirou: Huh… Sorry, I’m afraid I don’t understand.
Zouken: No, no… don’t worry yourself over it. It was my misunderstanding.

Zouken: Then I will take my leave here, Emiya Shirou-kun.
Zouken: I hope you get along with my grandchildren.

Shirou: (Until a year ago I came countless times to this house.)
Shirou: (But I had no idea they lived with their grandfather.)

    Shirou: I’m home!

    Taiga: Ah, welcome back Shirou!

    52

Taiga: You’re back so late again!
Shirou: I have work until eight, so there’s no helping it.

Shirou: Dinner looks ready. Fuji-nee, did you see Sakura?

Taiga: Yeah, Sakura-chan said she had something to do today so she went home early.
Shirou: I see. That’s best for now.

Shirou: It’s dangerous lately, so maybe I’ll make dinner from now on until spring-
    Taiga: EH?!

    Taiga: I’m against that!
Taiga: If you’re not making dinner until you get home,
then we won’t eat until after ten!

    53

Shirou: Hey, you always have the choice of eating at your own house.

    Taiga: But Shirou,
    Taiga: this is my house.

    Shirou: Fine, I get it.
It’s too much to ask you to cook for yourself.

    Shirou: Hm? What’s this?

Taiga: Ah, those. Someone gave them to me.
But I don’t need them, so you can have them.
    Shirou: I don’t…

    54

    Shirou: want 'em!

Taiga: Heh heh heh! Shirou, your skills aren’t nearly enough to hit me!

Taiga: If that makes you mad, then train harder!
    (kendo fifth dan)

    Taiga: Anyway Shirou, I’m hungry!
Taiga: Hurry up and get dinner ready!
    Taiga: (Hurry, hurry)
    Taiga: (I’ll help!)
    Shirou: Fine, fine.

    55

Taiga: (Hey, can you put all the food into a rice bowl?)
Taiga: (It’s fine, isn’t it? I’ll ask for seconds anyway.)

Shirou: (Don’t wolf all your food down.)
    Taiga: (But I’m hungry!)

    Taiga: (Bye!)
    Shirou: (Good night.)

    57

Gilgamesh: Die while you can, girl.
Gilgamesh: Tarry, and there may not be another chance—

    58

Oooh, nice, a scanlation! Guess I'll start reading this manga then! Thanks a whole bunch! Any chance you could put up a downloadable version for each chapter, like a zip/rar archive or something? I like downloading the manga I read so I can archive it for the future, and wip it out and re-read it whenever I want. I don't really mind grabbing each page manually though, so if it's extra trouble for you, then never mind. I just thought I'd ask. One question btw, does this manga go straight from the Chapter 0 - Prologue to Chapter 02, or is there a Chapter 01 as well? Just so I'm sure I'm not missing it or something. In any case, thanks so much for this! ^^

I think you forgot "But---" or "However---" in the page 42 after Kiri. Also, in the page 03, there is something before "Those weren't my memories.", i translated it by "Just Now", is it right?

They made some dumb mistakes in chapter 1 but you can just look at the Let's Play of the visual novel to see what it actually said.

Ye, I noticed they were a bit more sloppy in their translations, with more typos and stuff as well, but it's no big deal. Also, don't worry, I've played through the whole VN, so I don't even need the Let's Play. I probably noticed most of the mistakes, and remember what was actually said. Do any of you know if chapter 01 is available for download somewhere? Figured I might as well ask before I start downloading the images one by one, so I don't end up realizing later that I went through more effort than I had to.
