I have yet to actually play one of these games, but a high school friend of mine did tell me a pretty funny story from one he GM'd.

Honestly the barbarian HP bonus seems kinda of useless since its not lose first.
I think the "Unchained Barbarian" Paizo put out recently changes that.
The purpose is to allow them to keep fighting even when they should be KO'd; it's not a tank mechanic.
See, in theory Barbarians aren't supposed to rage at the first opportunity. You're supposed to keep it for when you're in trouble and you need to DPS race the enemy, in which case the bonus HP helps with that.

As it happens though I'm one of those dweebs that never use Archetypes because "b-but my base class features ;_;"

Cmooooon I just got my new literal Thor Hammer Throw that only works in Rage you can't blame me for using my last 2 rounds of it.
That 3d6+7 was so satisfying so it was worth it.
It's not an archetype, it's like a flat out class replacement.
To be honest I didn't plan on giving the second one his club (since I felt it did too much damage) at first but between your throw and Nihilm's ridiculous first hit you were killing the first one too fast for what was supposed to be essentially a boss fight.
So I settled for halving their STR bonus.

Their intent is more to simplify and rebalance. I'm not experienced enough with PF to judge their results.
From comments only the rogue and sorta summoner is OP though (though apparently summoner was already nuts).
I can tell you that the monk is definitely not simpler now that he has a ki system to select all his powers and stuff.
Otherwise 4 AM is too late for me to read them closely.

They had ki for some temporary boosts.
Now a lot of the monk's unique features run off of it.

Well "now" as in "for Unchained".

I'm assuming they deemed it simpler in terms of math, like how the monk had effectively 2 BAB's before. or the babarian had to juggle the effects of Strength bonuses and the awkward "con bonus hp is lost last" thing.
The rogue finese thing is nice considering its pretty much a must have for almost every rogue ever.
I love playing as rogues. My favourite was a 3.5 LvL 10 I was using during a Ravenloft module. 5d6 Backstab, 2d6 silver/holy damage, undead backstab feat, weapon finesse, and ambidexterity, and two weapon fighting.

Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.
I will say the thing that kind of bugs me about 3.x/PF is the amount of fiddly stuff that goes into something as simple as attacking, or attacking twice. I tried getting into gunslinger, but it felt like far too much work just to go "bang" for mediocre damage until level 5.
