I actually lived in Hawaii for several years, but I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know much of anything about native Hawaiian legends. I thought Pele was just a fire and volcano goddess, is this stuff true or is this a Nasu thing?

The "Hawaiian version of Ishtar" is most likely Nasu (thought their actitudes to their lovers are kinda comparable), but the rest does fits with her many legends. Btw, the other goddess mentioned by Jalter, Poli'ahu is a goddess of snow and Pele's rival. seriously DW, this two when?
