Re: the weird Scathach=Skadi thing, AFAICT you can blame the entirety of that on Barbara G. Walker's The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets.
It has Scathach=Skadi, Scathach=Hel (and thus Scathach=underworld god), Scathach=Götterdammerung=death-of-gods, and a whole bunch of other weird-ass 80s reinterpretations of myth and amateur comparative mythology.
It's pretty clearly one of the major sources of F/GO's Scathach, albeit maybe indirectly.

Yea Surtr can't identify Skadi, he even thought Ophelia was Skadi when they first linked through her mystic eye while she thought he is the 6th imaginary element (demons) at first. But he was like no, I AM FIRE, I AM DEATH, Smaug style. (and he's half dragon too).
