Wasnt Kariya's deal just that he could have been a goodmagus if he had been properly "trained" instead of getting the 1-year crash course of disablement?

Kariya seemed alright with his Servant, inasmuch as anyone can get along with a Berserker.
I think it's more to do with potential relationships with a Servant, though. Look at Shirou, for instance. An awful, awful Master but he still manages to do well in the Grail War in part because he gets on so well with Saber.
Pictured: Good Relation. The Black Knight's helmet cracked apart. The face revealed was shrouded in darkness, but that pair of fiery eyes, and the teeth trembling from hunger, could be clearly seen.
"You are, the sacrifice—"
He pronounced coldly, embracing Kariya without another word, coldly flashing sharp teeth piercing into his jugular.Kariya screamed in agony.
But this scream could not move the other. The berserk Black Knight sucked at the blood seeping from Kariya’s throat, and swallowed heavily.
"Good, give me more—
Your blood and flesh, your life—
Let them ignite my hatred—!!"
No...
Stop...
Save me!
Kariya used all the words he could think of to beg forgiveness, hoping there would be someone to extend a helping hand, but in this darkness, it was impossible for him to obtain salvation.
A miasma of red flashed intermittently before his eyes, consciousness confounded by pain and fear gradually becoming foggy.
But he still squeezed out the last remaining bit of strength, and cried out in his loudest voice.
Ragnarok, come day of wrath
That fallen souls might bear our plea.
To hasten the Divine's return.
O piteous Wanderer.
Well if Kariya were as good at cooking as Shirou is, maybe he wouldn't get eaten alive. Those Knights sure get hungry.
Just to point out, the "Master aptitude" here does not indicates the capacity to establish a contract with a Servant like in the other works of the Fate series. Rather, it means that one can successfully undergo a 'leyshift' - the pseudo-time travel that takes you back to the eras where the 7 Holy Grails can be found.
By all means, Olga's talents and skills as an ordinary magus are top-notch (it has been said so in the game). It just so happens that an "ordinary magus" is not someone really useful for the situation at hand.

I haven't read it lol.
It's a time travel story so it's entirely possible that by the end of it, FGO doesn't happen in the FGO universe!

Maybe we thought that Clocktower was the prologue to FGO, but FGO was the prologue to Clocktower all along.

LORE INFORMATION.時計塔における個体基礎学科はソロネア家というところで、ソロネアは中立主義。
バルトメロイは法政局のトップです。
So apparently Nasu wrote that the Barthomeloi were the Lords of the Individual Studies, but he goffed up.
Barthomeloi are the Lords of the Politics Faculty.
Solonea are the Lords of the Individual Studies. They are very neutral.

I'm not surprised. considering that the timeline "milestones" put up during the buildup seemed to be inconsistent with mainverse history.
BEHOLD! THE SIG OF GOLDEN TRUTH! Pillaged from McJon, Tsukikan et al.
So because Flauros existed, GO didn't happen because he committed suicide.あの世界では「現代を守ために●●」した人物がいるため、FGOは発生しません。
その成果を誰も知ることはなかったけど、彼は過去も未来も守ったわけである。
I see.
I hope that's who 現代を守ために●● person is.
