Sandals would definitely be a high mobility option, coming in handy a decent bit. Just as mantle would make for a nice infiltration package.

At the time, people were not wanting the sandals because anyone who saw them would be able to figure out we summoned Perseus, but then they chose the one item that identifies him even more. Ah, well, let's hope the spell reflection and minimap come in handy.

As for meditation, you don't have to jump right away, its just helping you try to find out if you even can to begin with.
    Ah, i see
I am a bit leery with illuminating the place due to worry it will turn shinji into a beacon for every single creature in light reach to come at him. Usually that is what happened in this kind of scenario.

[X] (write-in) Use Perseus' shield to find out if there are any hostile creatures nearby and see if he can determine where the water end (land) and general terrain.

I edit the write in, so we can see how far away is shinji from land ...it can do that right? Show general terrain?

If it can, he's not familiar with that feature yet.

    He can try,yes?
As long as it does has that capabilities.

He can try. Just a pity he did not [x] Spend time trying to get used to his new abilities (Fairy Eye, Shield, etc) while recovering.

Unfortunately, shinji's psyche is more important at that time.

Choice 340: (write-in) Use Perseus' shield to find out if there are any hostile creatures nearby and see if he can determine where the water end (land) and general terrain.

Choice 341: Before he did anything else like lighting up the space he was in (as he wasn't sure what might be hiding under the water, or in the shadowy gloom of the cavern), Matou Shinji figured he might as well try and use the mysterious shield he'd acquired during his explorations to see what was around him. After all, it had showed him incoming enemies before - perhaps at the least it could reveal if there were any hidden dangers he should be aware of, and at best, it could show him the layout of the place.

As if responding to his wish, the shield materialized on his arm, with a strange pattern apparent on its back.

    'The layout, huh?'

Something like a 2D projection of his location anyway, which given that he was underground in a cave, wasn't the most useful thing in the world, since it didn't really account for things like topographical changes.

    'An exit tunnel?'

It seemed there were a couple of ways - three ways - out, though he wasn't sure how he would get to any of them, given how vast the cavern was, and there being no discernible footpath or convenient stones crossing from the platform to one of the tunnels.

    'I don't even know if they're underwater...'

Which could be a whole other issue, admittedly, though not as much as the pair of large, red dots moving languidly about his position on the mini-map, under the ebon surface of the water.

    'Something's there...but what...?'

    How does he get across?

[ ] Use his wands to freeze water and create a bridge
[ ] Take Elixir of Fading and look for the tunnels the shield indicated
[ ] Swim across, using the sunlight potion to try and distract/blind whatever is in the cave with him
[ ] It's too dangerous to attempt crossing. Perhaps he should meditate and see if there's any flow ofuda near enough to jump to

...Of course the Shield doesn't provide the information mentally. Really, what else can you expect from the non-Mantle option but disappointment?

[x] Take Elixir of Fading and look for the tunnels the shield indicated

As much as I don't want to feed our addiction to the sweet, sweet Fading - I feel it's the best choice here. Those "large dots" most probably won't be stopped by a measly ice bridge in their chase of Wakame's pliant flesh; and it's quite possible that they don't even have a sight to blind with bright light, they live in darkness. Skull Leader has already described my concerns about the meditation option, so.

Agreed, ice bridge means combat, most likely and on thin ice too without access to fusion.

    Swimming is even worse.

How much Fading do we have left, alf? We made an entire cauldron full, but then we gave a few vials away and have used a few more. It's rather tempting to use it as "(hopefully) get out of jail free (or at least relatively cheaply)" card, but it would be disappointing to keep choosing it and then have you suddenly tell us we just voted to use our last dose.

Let's say you have 4 vials of the stuff remaining from your original brew, each good for about three to six hours of wraith time.

For reference, the survival portion of the competition is 14 days.

Thank you. Now, the question is whether the convenience (and possible danger) of Fading is worth the loss of resources (and likely safety).

  14. #4214
When we have Fusion again - in a day or two, believing Elesa - and/or the protection of our ally, then we can stop nervously reaching for the Fading at the first sign of trouble like for a convenient drug it is. But now we are in a very precarious position, and I have learned not to trust Shinji's ability to win without a heavily stacked deck.

Nooooo. You can't take my drugs from me!

Seriously, we always fall into the same bag of tricks. First, try Ofuda, then Fusion, then Fading, and then maybe a charm spell. We know what works and do not try to deviate from that, almost like we are creatures of habit.

Thought if I had a non-underwater tunnel that Shinji could see, I would be right there voting to paper plane a Flow Ofuda to said tunnel.

  16. #4216
Well, that's the thing - they might be underwater, they might not. We have no clue about the relative elevation of each tunnel entrance.

    Choice 342:
Once in spirit form, Matou Shinji feels somewhat disoriented, given that there are other spirits drifting all around him - some humanoid, some no more than shimmering balls of light, glowing silver in the darkness. But more than the drifting lights, what really keeps him feeling off are the whispers, half-words and broken thoughts rambled in forgotten tongues.

    Escape.

So his mind tells him, as the voices become unbearable, the dull whispers building on each other over and over so what was once background noise becomes something like a waterfall of sound that blanks out his thoughts. He...he...he had to...

...what? What did he have to do?

Join the chorus of words and thoughts? Stay here...stay...

    No.

Wrenching himself free of the noise with sheer force of will, the boy threw his spectral form into the water, where the whispers ceased, giving way to utter silence - freeing his mind from the influence of what was above.

In the darkness, a massive form brushed by - something like a giant serpent.

    'A Selma...?'

It was hard to say in the gloom, and he'd never really been particular about magical beasts. Perhaps he should have paid more attention, if something like this was even covered...

At least, in his exploration of the underwater realm, he could identify two tunnels, or rather...channels.

    'Channels for an underground river.'

One fairly small one through which water came through slowly, and which angled up in a very crooked way. And a much larger one, which didn't seem to be a channel as much as a whole other cave system - if underwater. Where it ended, Shinji didn't know, though he thought perhaps...

    'The sea...?'

    Which tunnel does he take?

[ ] The one from which the water comes (go upstream)
[ ] The one which is practically the entrance to a cave
[ ] Surface and try to find the third tunnel

    We have to go deeper.

[x] The one from which the water comes (go upstream)

    *loud Inception noises*

Seriously, I have no idea what I'm doing, too little relevant information. So trusting the gut it is.

Alf, a couple of questions about Shinji's Mystic Eye Killer contacts: firstly, they're purely defensive, right? That is to say, they don't stop his own Mystic Eyes? And secondly, do they only stop Mystic Eyes which require eye contact, or do they also stop other abilities that require such? Because Legillimency is normally stated to require looking into the target's eyes, and an easy way to block that would be quite handy.

The Mystic Eye Killer contacts normally work both ways, if there is an active effect like say, imposing lines of death on the world or such. Shinji's Fairy Eyes' however, don't have an offensive effect, in that they don't conjure flames, cast illusions, or hypnotize people. They essentially allow him to process and analyze data at a rate his brain would not normally be able to handle, and in some ways would be closer to Pure Eyes (since it is in essence, it is a physical change symbolizing how he has inherited some of the karma and destiny of Perseus). As for Legilimency, its easiest when one makes eye-contact, especially for people who are trying to do it non-verbally/may not be the most skilled at it, but its not really required - though yes, the contacts would disrupt a connection one is trying to make by injecting magical energy through the eyes.
