Spoiler:
What Fate/Stay Night character are you?
Kotomine Kirei
You are Kirei. You've always been a little different from the rest. You probably have low social skills. Whatever, it's not like what they think matters anyway. Ever searching for something missing within you, you probably don't experience the same happiness as everyone else. Good and evil are just labels, you are who you are.

We can redo death choices, that's been mentioned a couple times. Obviously just plain bad choices that isn't allowed. Otherwise the Hermione scenario wouldn't have been that bad.
saving zouken is gonna fix a lot of problems in the future of shinji, problems than shinji cause in first place.
Also shinji is gonna win favors of the matous family too, maybe those secrets are not going to be that useful right now but in a future is could learn those secrets.
Then you aren't really of the opinion of keeping the water for Shinji's own sake. As for learning the Matou secrets, I already explained that Shinji won't be able to learn how to use those fast enough to use an acceptable amount of them in the Potions Championship.

The Matou family is all of two individuals, earning their favor isn't that influential. And either of these options helps Shinji, it's naive to think otherwise. But the Fujou option provides more immediate and long term benefits, even if those benefits are not as narrow. It's also a limited time offer. Shinji may get another drop of the water, problem solved then. He can't bring the dead back to life though.
[x] Give it freely, knowing the gift will curry a great deal of favor with both the Fujou family - and with Kaiduka and Hijiri
Shinji shouldn't buy Zouken's affection with gifts. A meaningful emotional connection is the best path to a healthy relationship.
It got Shinji thinking about obligations to family, and so he advised Shiroe accordingly.
Shiroe (城恵) - "Fortress of Wisdom"
I've mentioned this as far back as Book 2. Suitable for someone who might be the touchstone for both the Fujou and the Demon Hunter Organization at large, if they are to play a larger role, no?

So, why cant Shiroe use the scabbard to heal his sister?

And by the time that might be an option she will be dead.

It is possible to get something to help Zouken as opposed to Shirou's sister at some point, or at least more likely.
save it for zouken.
also was that a vote i missed to suggest shirou give it up?
[X] Save it, as he might need it in the future
We shouldn't have mentioned anything.
Is it really that useful as a bargaining chip? Without King Arthur's prana it isn't useful for much beyond a catalyst. Rather than give it to the Einzbern to temporarily mollify them, we could use it to make Zolgen sane again; a great asset indeed.

I think that mollifying the Einzberns is more likely than curing Zouken. Though mollifying the Einzberns fully would require killing Zouken for the most part.

Admittedly, the opportunity we have in saving Kirie is very apparently time-sensitive and one that we will not be getting again. What we gain in not asking for Avalon also far outweighs taking Avalon in this situation. Times like these receiving the gratitude of what is more or less one of the greater clans of Japan will be much more useful to us than some sheathe that we cannot use right now.
While it is true that we are weighing this against giving it to Zouken, we will likely find other opportunities to assist him in regaining his youth in the future. Based on canon, he isn't due to die of 'natural' causes for at least another three years and we should encounter something by then.
After all, as Dumas once said: "We are never quits with those who oblige us, for when we do not owe them money, we owe them gratitude."
[x] - Give it freely
So, Shinji finally learns more about Fujou family and how much what he did matters to them. Beautiful start of the new book, pretty insightful. Shirou is already as far away from canon that lack of Avalon would be only formality.
[X] Trade it for whatever artifact saved Shirou's life after the Fuyuki fire
Yes, Shinji told Shiroe that everything has a price. Let's not forget that Grndpa waits for Shinji, and that Zouken is pretty angry. I vote we give him Avalon. It isn't Water of Life, true, but Zouken knows how previous war ended and might be thankful for something that will guarantee his victory. Coupled with explaining on Shinji's part, we may yet avoid Grandpa's wrath.
