Spoilers tags as to not influence people in the potentially wrong direction and / or to avoid unnecessary arguments.

    Plan Evaluation.

[x] Talk with Rin in His manor (with the presence of Mashu) about her capabilities AND general ability and ask her about what areas she want to improve?
[x] Have her spar with Hilde and see how she does.
[x] Ask the Fujous about their mutual friend.

    Spoiler:
There's a limit to how much I trust Shinj's willpower not to give in. So not getting close and personal with her himself nor shared bath (I'd rather avoid either of these two, just to be on the safe side). Dinner with her seems another opportunity to make Rin even more infatuated with Shinji, so it's not something I would go for here.

[x] Join her in the kitchens in the evenings, so they can chat as they cook.

    Spoiler:
I dunno why but, I feel that one could bring surprising results. I see it as a good way to relax and train (I assume Memory Partition would prevail here since he would be multi-tasking) and this is something he can easily (and daily) replicate even once Mashu isn't by his side. (During travels and assignments).

I see the suite option as optimal (in bringing faster results) when Mashu is around but I would aim for the method that allows him to keep his progress steady (including being around other people during mental exercises, so he can get used to background noises and still train efficiently).

Slow & steady rather than intensive but not as regular training sessions, you know?

[x] Write to Lockhart and ask him about her abilities.
[x] Walk around Magical London with her, using Leshin items to disguise himself, and ask what her motivations are for all...this.

    Spoiler:
Skills and motivations seem like a good place to start with her.

[x] Go down to the basement with her and spar, personally testing her abilities in combat (hand to hand, grappling & ranged)
[x] Ask the Fujous about their mutual friend

Fighting for an honest evaluation of her skills, but also because it's a more personal, while still professional approach. We shouldn't spend too much time with Rin without the veil of professionalism right now. Yet we still need to show that we value her enough to give our attention.

Touko, because we want to know a full, if unpleasantly delivered picture. Also, the only way to know about Rin's crafting progress, which is absolutely necessary for further progress.

No sparring with Hilde, we don't want to give the impression that combat skills are everything that is important in the squad. So I'll go for Fujou, since it specifically highlights Shinji's thoughts of Rin as a friend. We want to learn more about her as a person, not just her skills, and this option gives us exactly that in lieu of the ability to actually talk without succumbing to temptation.

[X] Ask his former Master, Aozaki Touko, for her thoughts on her apprentice

[X] Have a one-on-one meeting with her, perhaps at a nice restaurant or somewhere like the garden they visited for Christmas
[X] Go down to the basement with her and spar, personally testing her abilities in combat (hand to hand, grappling & ranged)

    Yeah going with this one.
Ask her personality to see if she is capable of open herself and Let us help her. Also this Is the best chance to learn about her current abillity in crafting specially if she mention her new Mystica code.
Ask Touko because she Is her current master so she would have a good idea of what áreas Rin need some improve.
AND well have a spar so we can she un first hand of what she capable.

[ ] Join her in the kitchens in the evenings, so they can chat as they cook

I am biased in this one, I love make food, its very relaxing AND help me to get my year in order, hope could be the same with Shinji.

[ ] Write to Lockhart and ask him about her abilities
[ ] Spar with her, both with and without magical abilities, to get an idea of her temperament and skill
    Not much to explain here.

Minor change to Choice 25 - please format your votes as a plan. For Choice 25, approval voting is also in order, so please vote for as many plans as you wish.

    Choice 25: Plan Teamwork: Rin

[X] Ask his former Master, Aozaki Touko, for her thoughts on her apprentice
[X] Write In: Arrange a team meeting where Shinji, Hilde and Rin will discuss each of their abilities, fighting styles and their strength and weaknesses with each other.
[X] Write In: After the above discussion talk, Sparring match between the three, both with magic and without, so that they all get use to each others abilities.

    Choice 27

[X] Write In: Arrange a team meeting where Shinji, Hilde and Rin will discuss each of their abilities, fighting styles and their strength and weaknesses with each other.

So my write in uses both the slot for Rin and the slot for Hilde. At this point in time, I think that any alone time with Rin especially in any setting that is romantic or could be seen as that should be avoided at all costs. So Rin time for now (or at least till Shinji has rebalanced himself so that he can resist Rin), should be limited to when others are around. Thus it works very well to make this a team event. Have them lay down their cards to each other, so that everyone knows what each other is capable so that they can work on covering each others weakspots.

For example Hilde can't replicate items, but if Rin crafts items that will help Hilde out. Shinji is recharged/regen by earth or fire, Hilde can use a form that makes fire for him to charge him.

The sparring is so they can witness what each other is capable after having the talk. Its also hopefully the kick Rin needs to understand just how limited she is, that she needs to widen her abilities or create items that will help her break her limits. A team spar can be laid out so that its not a contest. Its not so game where we are seeing who is top dog, it is a measure so that everyone can help the others out and build the teamwork that needed.

Just to address another thing, asking Touko vs asking Fujous is fairly interchangable to me, but I side with Touko since she is the more easily reached at the moment cause the Japan travel method is shutdown and so it will take time before any answer with the Fujous can happen.

Talk with Touko to know Rin strengths and weakness. Arrange team meeting so everyone knows what each can do and what they have problems with. Don't see point of group sparring with Hilde since after discussing abilities she will beat both of them. Spar with Rin to see exactly where she stands and to talk with her on what she plans to do.

[x]Ask her to move into his Penthouse Suite, so they can train together late at night/early in the morning

Get most time in Atlas training. Talking in kitchen when cooking doesn't seem like a place to discuss Atlas matters since anyone can drop in.

Well the writte would solve the problem of the place were Shinji would talk with Rin.
Speak with Touko would give us the opinión of her current master and give us a general idea of what areas Rin lack of dicipline AND her current mindset.
The Spar session would be necesary to test in first hand about her current power.

(in case people missed my edit up there)

    Reasons I swapped the votes for this;

Rin gets to discuss her doubts and reveals where she thinks she is lacking.
Then she has practice with Hilde so Shinji can see what Rin would be missing / not be aware of herself.
Finally he asks the Fujou's for their opinion since they put her through a gauntlet of training with different opponents.

Should be enough to get an accurate picture of her abilities for Shinji (without destroying the poor girl's ego).

Didn't talk would Touko would be More quickly AND personal than talk with Shirou family?.

Also why make her spar with hilde?, Than would end with Rin pissed and Hilde making fun of her, Rin would develop a rival Attitude against Hilde than would put her far away from focus in The crafting path.

Well, it looks like plan voting was a flop. There will be no more of that going forward, just the usual line by line, if only to spare myself a massive headache.

Choice 25: [x] Go down to the basement with her and spar, personally testing her abilities in combat (hand to hand, grappling & ranged); [x] Ask his former Master, Aozaki Touko, for her thoughts on her apprentice; [x] Ask the Fujous about your mutual friend

Choice 26: TIED - [x] Join her in the kitchens in the evenings, so they can chat as they cook; [x] Ask her to move into his Penthouse Suite, so they can train together late at night / early in the morning

Choice 27: [x] Walk around Magical London with her, using Leshin items to disguise himself, and ask what her motivations are for all...this; [x] Write In: Arrange a team meeting where Shinji, Hilde and Rin will discuss each of their abilities, fighting styles and their strength and weaknesses with each other.

Choice 28: What approach does Shinji take to sparring with Rin?

[ ] Treat it as if it were a life or death battle. Try and take her out as quickly as he can
[ ] Be aggressive, see what kinds of abilities she can bring out if pressured
[ ] Lull her into complacency by giving her first blood, but bring out a devastating counterattack
[ ] Tank her initial blow (Gandr, from what Touko says) and rush her - she won't be able to fight back if she's flat on her back
    [ ] (write-in)

Choice 29: Hilde has come up with a plan for the upcoming operation, one which takes advantage of the fact that the attack on London created quite a few orphans who are to be placed at WADA, given that it is the only institution which would theoretically house them. Under this plan, Hilde would be a Muggleborn left orphaned by the attack, freshly enrolled in WADA, with Lockhart assigning Hermione Granger as her peer mentor, and Shinji/Rin as her guardians / people who look after the other children.

Hilde's reasoning is that Hermione will better respect the wishes of a scared peer/kouhai, as opposed to that of a bodyguard she neither wants nor believes she needs for herself.

    Does Shinji approve this plan?

[ ] Yes, it sounds great
    [ ] Yes, with some suggestions (write-in)
[ ] No, this is horrible. REJECTED
[ ] You know what? Hilde being point person is a horrible idea. He'll do it himself.

[x] Be aggressive, see what kinds of abilities she can bring out if pressured

This is the beat tactics for such match, honestly. Going all-out without breaking her instantly will force her to bring the A-game to the fore. No need to coddle, or play at her supposed level - we are here to judge her maximum output.

[x] Yes, with some suggestions: Shinji and Rin arrive separately at different dates and "take guardianship" of different children, pretending that there is no connection between them. Shinji acts under disguise all the time to both hide from Hermione and diminish the risk of his reputation influencing the mission.

The reasoning is in the vote, pretty much. We avoid the drama until Shinji gets back on his feet at the basic level. Both Atlas training and Improv exercises are supposed to ensure it. Then we will have our enlightening conversations about Matou Shinji's uncaring attitude and womanizing ways, without the chance of wrecking "Shinji"'s spirit utterly.

    May not be perfect but here you go;

    [x]
Shinji will be on the defense, ask her to attack him, observing Rin's movements and countering her attacks and keeping his distance. Let her dictate the pace but adjust and correct her rhythm when necessary. Each time she makes a mistake or miss the timing for an opportunity, Shinji will highlight the mistake with with either a light tap from his staff (flow if needed), a stinging ofuda or other hindrance. By having her take the initiative. Goal is to see what how she proceeds when not receiving specific orders, how she goes about attacking and dealing with setbacks. What she can do to pierce through his longer reach, beat his higher experience on the field and outplay his fairy eyes. End with a verbal evaluation discussion - him giving her bullet points for the most important "marks" that need to be corrected.

The marks, are not actual hit with the staff, but simply reference points (you touch her to mark the moment). That way when he starts discussing with Rin (after the sparring session) the evaluation is easier to follow.

    There are few things I want to accomplish with this write-in;

    It's quite long
    >Have Rin being the one to decide to throw the initial punch. Why does it matter?

It's the very first time Rin has to go against Shinji. While it may simply be an sparring session, she has to work up the will to hit the guy she is in love with, whom she respects most and that she clearly admires a little too much.

Imagine for a second how anxious Shinji would be if he had to spar with Sion herself, and you shouldn't be far from how Rin feels.

I think having her throw the first hit can play is a symbolic and essential step in the way she needs to reevaluate his skills down. For now, she imagine him as some sort of heroic man who cannot be defeated by a timid magus like her. That needs to be fixed.

Why? Because if Rin can be a source of trouble for a guy like Shinji, she can face less intimidating opponents with a more... serene heart and maybe a bit of a boost in self-esteem?

There is also the whole issue with associating initiative with punishment. That's something you see through Rin's training with Touko and the Fujou as well. Nearly every time she was seen trying to improvise, she was seen either scolded or severely punished for it.

While it was good for her to learn not get conceited, it also gave her the idea that initiatives are outside her reach. That she is not built for it. That's why she asked Shinji advice multiple times instead of thinking for herself. For her, initiative = punishment. A negative association that certainly doesn't help her growth.

Shinji must show her that no, you can show initiative and still get something positive out of it.

    >Have Shinji be in the role of a military instructor. Why does it matter?

Well, first and foremost Shinji needs to rethink his way of doing things. While he managed somewhat in the past years to get by while being mostly dealing and focusing by/on himself only, he now needs to learn to think as a squad leader, and all the responsibilities that it implies.

Managing your unit's morale, overall and individually, is a prime factor in success. You want to be respected and trusted, then you need to prove that you can be there for them when it counts. Rin's barely out of the nest at this point, while she may have strong potential, her self-confidence is very low and she lacks experience.

What she needs is not another guide mind you, but someone who will push her to fly by herself. A professional on whom she can rely on to be honest and deliver a fair assessment without judging her for what she lacks. Someone who points out flaws and has her find a solution for it.

She already knows that they are much more stronger people than her. She has witnessed the harshness of that reality with Touko's puppets, with the Fujou members and knows that some anomaly like Shinji exist.

Being aggressive here, while she is most likely building anxiety at the sole idea of facing Shinji here or being trying to teach her a lesson in humility, are not ideal yet.

Aggressive and taking her out quickly will only shove in her face that she is weak / worthless. She already knows that she is lacking, no need to destroy the little ego she has left, nor put more pressure on her.

Tricking her into getting cocky is something you want to use when the opponent is getting complacent, I don't think Rin is in that state of mind right now. She doesn't need a wake up call.

On the other hand, you don't need to be nice to her nor do you need to encourage the idea that Shinji is someone invicible either.

Just do your job so she won't be weight for the team and will be able to act by herself once the situation calls for it.

Finally, Rin needs to stop looking at Shinji as her romantic interest exclusively. There's a lot for her to get accustomed to, but this is an essential point that she needs to get down. There is more to Shinji than just the boy who went to the restaurant with her or bought a house for her. He is not nice all the time, nor has he all the time in the world for her.

If he gives her a personal run down on her shortcomings, it should be something that matters, and thus she should be expected to take the lesson seriously by finding ways to circumvent her weaknesses / fix them - especially on the long term.

    >Leave Rin with something solid to work with after the lesson. What does that matter?

Well, the important part is that Shinji is not simply listings a number of faulty traits that she needs fixing. He is physically go through the extra step to "mark" the moment, in order to discuss after the lesson why that was not ideal. It gives accurate image of important steps.

That's something important for someone like Rin, since magi tends to work better when mental imagery is involved.

TLDR; Have her take initiative (without being immediately punished for it), have her build a little self-esteem, have her take Shinji seriously, have Shinji 'test the waters' with the role of leader and leave Rin with a decent starting line for later improvement.

Note that I'm not saying that Shinji should not have Rin being put under pressure for later training sessions though. I think having her on a defensive role is as important as being on the offense, especially if you want her to learn to be careful. However, I think it's best served for a next sparring event, because she will be in a different state of mind by the time it comes up. As much as I don't like saying it like that; you don't go all out on the girl for her first time, least you might hurt her.

It's only an evaluation test, no need to make it harder for her.

[x] Write-in: Yes - Hilde will aim to get closer to Hermione and reveal her role as a bodyguard when the time is right.

    Edited as discussed.
