I thought I was helping.

Instead of trying to lead up to the sex, start with it. But, now I see that the problem you're having isn't transitioning from point a (no sex) to point b (sex), but the actual writing of the sex itself. My mistake.

While I'm not as well versed in the art of porn writing as some others as all I have under my belt is loving embraces, sensual kissing, and the occasional drunken Drake rape, I say just don't try so hard to write something sexual. Just let it come naturally.

I legit usually write everything around the porn and then write the porn itself whenever I'm, uh, in the mood so to speak. This is actually the state Just Add Dragons is in right this minute, with everything but sexytimes written.

And I base it on personal experience and what I can sneak from alcohol-loose lipped friends usually since porn is often too transparent. Although I have noticed that the actual story pattern for standalone lemons is usually the same as doujin stories -_-

Humor and sex are not far removed. Same chemicals being released by your brain. Similar pleasure felt. Sex looks funny. Anyway, so a lot of oneshot h-manga and doujin are structured as the punchline to a joke, just like sexytimes are, uh, structured as the punchline to someone getting off. And that's just a natural way to write them imo.

So, like, to avoid a completely straightforward narrative that could be like direction manuals--they go out on a date then they go home/to a hotel/someplace and then they fuck and then the end--which would be boring as hell, doing something else that also showcases something of interest or amusement is usually laid in first, which after all the sexytimes is done, is often brought up again as a "punchline" so to speak to give it narrative cohesion. If I'm writing about how Rin screws up trying to initiate sexytimes as the basis for a story, at the end after sexytimes has in fact occurred she's going to screw up some other way to bring it back around and make the framework more than just this-is-how-we-fuck.

Which is all just a stupid way to say how in doujin there's often a misunderstanding that leads up to the sex and then the last page or few panels is the characters clarifying and getting to see the dramatic irony of what was going on, often the punchline of a joke.

I've written a lot of sex in the context of freeform roleplaying, but that kind of has this dynamic with other roleplaying party where it doesn't feel so much like you're trying to figure out what makes it go. Whatever the rest of the plot is hopefully led to it and makes it go. So this is actually exactly what (I think) I needed to hear about writing solo lemons/erotic scenes in fanfiction I'm writing on my own.

That's true, half of his stuff starts either solemn/misfortunate or jokey. Respectively, the former ends on a happier note and the latter delivers the appropriate punchline. There's also the rare case where it starts as solemnly then goes to the jokey promise of a rom-com, but then starts solemn in the next installment then happy ending (ala Homemate).

I can only remember 1-3 things Napata has done that's cheating, but it's vanilla in overall quality.
