More seriously, a weekly/monthly digest would be nice.
How I'd go about it to not make it unmanageable: I'd give a group of users the ability to tag posts as "important"/digest-worthy, and include a functionality to search for all such posts by subforum/date range. That would also allow people to go back and tag old stuff when they felt like it.
