In all honestly, unless you're going for a legit meta team to fight against Tournament players or other people that only make 6 IV OU pokemon that they see on websites for the 'most optimal team', you don't really need to bother with IVs too hardcore. I mean, if they're IVs are the worst in an optimal stat it'll make a difference, but most of the time it's just a few extra hp for either an attack or on your side for defense. You're team'll do fine if you just make a decent one.
Me and my friend play all the time, they're super serious with breeding (one guy basically has a box full of optimal perfect IV shinies) but I do fine against them with 3-4 IV pokemon and a few freshly caught ones because I'm lazy. I make smart teams and everything, but I don't have the time to breed 3000 Eevees for the perfect Eon evolution. I still do fine.

Anyways, this announcement was unexpected but not unpleasant. Too bad I don't have a 3DS, so I'll just wait a for YT LP.
In terms of story, I personally found B&W really good. That question in the back of the mind stayed for a while which added some attachment to it.
EDIT: Speaking of which, the hope remains that they will produce Pokemon targeted at teens or older audiences someday (most likely never).
For example, the full animated trailer for Pokemon B2&W2 games.

Balance isn't the word that comes to mind when it's generally the same seven or eight 'mons that make up all of the top-tier teams. That "Smogonbird" exists is a testament to how poorly balanced it is.
It's maybe 10 useful ones and 590 pieces of dead weight.
Yeah, prevos are useless and I wish they would go away.
Only because of the current system.
I was purely talking about the idea that a lack of IVs would make things boring. Without them, who the hell would compare two of the same species together and be bored that they're the same? I'd put good money on that number being less than the people who want IVs gone.
The ratio's kind of off, but it's kind of the same with fighting games. There are the top tier and then there are the others. It's not a perfect metaphor (seriously, it's not) but unless you're joining a tournament it's not that hard to just set up some house rules to make things more diverse. Me and my friends have a set rule that's basically, One OU in your team at most. We tend to have really diverse teams with that ruling since it means you don't have a team of six over powered sweepers on each side. We've added more rules once we saw some patterns (Sticky Web had to be banned since it was being used too much and we've pretty much unofficially given up on stealth rock because it makes things boring with the need for a rapid spinner) but we have some really nice matches with unexpected pokemon shining.
I've had my team swept by a freaking Jumpluff and completely wrecked my friend with my team of Eons, not even using the Fairy one and using the often ridiculed Flareon to hilarious results when it exploded his tank with a Flare Blitz.

I spent most of my teenage years playing one variety of Guilty Gear or another, so I realize no competitive game is ever truly, perfectly balanced. And I don't mean to imply that Pokemon having clear and obvious winners like Garchomp makes it awful.
I just tend to see the same 'mons in rotation over and over.
IV? EV? Nature? What's all of that? My Pokemon's strength comes the loving care during our adventures and only being taught the best attacking moves in the game.

Spoiler:
Even in OU 1500+, the pokemon usage distribution is still pretty wide.
The only metagames where the distribution isn't very wide are Uber/AG (For obvious reasons) and VGC 2015/2016 which pretty much have the top teams using the same 4 pokemon and the remaining 2 picked from like, a pool of 10.
edit: heavy exaggeration but I think it gets the point across

honestly the good people of smogon should just develop a game of their own like pokemon but specifically made for the competitive scene
kinda like the Project M guys are trying to do now
its sad that nintendo just come up with super interesting ides and then let them rot forever by just making the same game over and over with little changes
i swear people who hate on smogon actually just dont know anything about it
they are actually just trying to make it fun to compete with pokemon thats the reason for any bans/rule changes
