The Japanese version of the game contains a language switch function, which means Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese is built in. I believe this is the first time an official JPN Fate release acknowledges a language other than Japanese? Regardless, it's a good thing and hopefully future releases will be localized as well.

It also means the JPN copy will be the definitive release, unless the US/EU release has the same language switch function as well.

I believe I mentioned somewhere back in the Switch thread that, since Japan loves portable gaming, and the Vita is getting long in the tooth with no direct successor in sight, it was very possible that the Switch would end up being the platform of choice for 99% of all Japanese non-PC and non-mobile games.

I then went on to say that, considering the performance of the PSP and especially the Vita outside of Japan, it would be very nice if these types of Japanese games were on a platform that was more successful worldwide.


Needless to say, much of that seems to be coming true. Considering how easy the Switch's region-free is to use, this makes me very very happy.

In addition to the stuff I said above, it probably helps a lot that a Switch SDK only costs about 50,000 yen. Software development cost was a big reason that Japanese devs were slow to develop for the Xbox 360 and/or PlayStation 3.
