This is also Nasu's first time directly writing for anime, so maybe he overstimated what can fit properly in a single episode
Thing is, it feels like he had certain ideas, the episode number was an obstacle, and website and Drama CD is the only way he could fully tell what he wanted to tell.

Even if that was the case (and it seems very unlikely to me that they would make him write blindly like that) then it sucks, but it's his responsibility to change what he wrote to still deliver a good product despite of the shortcomings, and if this was his solution then it just isn't good enough for me.

That totally makes sense, I'm always impressed by how many thematic and/or lore connections Nasu makes in everything he writes, it's scary to think about how many notes (mental or otherwise) he has to go through when writing.

That's actually not a particularly hard one for Nasu tbh, for the same reason that AT Fields and Eva are actually very Japanese things since their entire language and culture revolves around defining inside and outside.

Honestly I would've preferred to view Last Encore as a light novel. With that format you not only explain these connections and details but also give more satisfying insights to the whole thing. The more I see it, the more I feel that anime format wasn't the right thing for this particular story.
