Yeah, pretty much. At some level, the translation has to be approved by Nasu to be officially licensed in the first place after all.

So, the english translationn is basically a fanfic altering the original work for no reason? Cool. Guess it's translations can't be considered canon, then.

If it's the translation used in an officially licensed media then it effectively has become canon. You may not like it, but it's true.

Just to clear things up, I worked for both Netflix and iFlix Asia as a Chinese translator (subtitle) and what we did was we grabbed the English .srt file and a glossary list made by the English sub team, then we basically made up words not in the glossary, or just use fans translated versions... But they're technically not allowed. According to management, self created words are weighted more than fan versions. That's why you get terminology wrong in these lore heavy animes because no one cares about the lore, we're underpaid as it is...

I translated an episode of The Flash and while I was a fan, I cringed when I saw the "official" glossary where they clearly mistranslated terms like "metahumans" into "superpowered human" in Chinese.

Different episodes are also translated by different people, so that's why you always see inconsistent translations. On top of that we're given the episodes a few days before it's posted on the site, I'm imagining simulcasts are worst, and the supervisor who is supposed to check and proofread doesn't really care either...

So, no, officially licensed media translations doesn't mean they are canon. Most of them are translated by freelancers that don't give a shit about your favourite anime lore. I certainly couldn't care less about Occultic;Nine when I did the translation for one of the episodes, I only did basic wiki research since their 20min episode had freaking 900 lines of dialogue

Exactly.The only reason Dies (the VN) got a good translation was precisely because they managed to get fans to translate it. Paid professionals who were also fans and worked hard to deliver a good product. Sadly, we can't expect the same luck with all translations.

fyi: Nero is the only character made by Nasu that affected by the VA.

Tange voice is so strong Nasu had to rewrite Nero's character from the original setting.

I'd almost forgotten Nero was meant to be a flawed character/ruler. Good episode.

That is what I've been waiting to see in the anime. Because it's essential to her character that was glossed over in later works.

Tamamo too actually. But, rather than having to rewrite characters to fit Chiwa Saitou, Nasu took advantage of her very wide range of tones to introduce all 9 members of Tamamo Nine (each having respective voices) and Amaterasu in CCC, then made a tribute to that "Chiwa is Casko, Casko is Chiwa" in Extella with Tamamo roleplaying as JK ended up creating JK Tamamo becuz "her voice acting can easily bring a character to life".

Tho I would say his favorite VA is probably Maaya Sakamoto.

Tange is my childhood crush, yeah I'm not even joking. I blame Cardcaptor Sakura. IIRC she said that Nero is one of the toughest character for her to voice.

Yep. IIRC Nasu was also really inspired by one of her songs while writing for FGO and insisted she does the OP song.
