And Surf was one of the attacks I used the most. It was all I needed to 1-hit everything in my path.

I have a fondness for flamethrower, but eh, yeah, Surf is nice too.

I'm just using pokemon because they already fit the elemental affinities and kind of work as familiars, each having some degree of independence and battle ability. It would make things much easier if you chose one...and there are about 650 of them, so you should be able to find something you like.

Spiritomb is allowed - but no hacked Wonder Guard Spiritomb.

As for psuedo-legendaries, yes, they are allowed, though of course, you start out with the basic form. Further, since they usually take more EXP to level up, it will be a little more challenging to awaken their abilities.
