While I'll agree that Chrono Cross had a pretty awesome FMV opening if we're talking PS1 era stuff I think FF8 deserves a mention too, personally I think it's just as good in that department.
Wait, do you mean opening sequence as in the FMVs/cinematics that play before the beginning of some games, or the actual introductory gameplay? In the case of the latter, I'd lean on agreeing about MGS1. For the former, it's got to be either Rise of Legends or Civ 4.
