Twenty minutes.
It happens that she has some fish left over from her dinner, and she passes them along to you. The kitten crawls out of your pocket, sniffs at the fish, and begins to eat.
As this happens, you see her smiling softly. It's a very gentle expression, almost imperceptible. But, you feel like it's a good mood.
"What's your name? I'm, er, I'm the assistant for the new boss."
"Well then, assistant, I'm Elizabeth. Pleased to meet you."
Oh damn, she's leveled her eyes at you again. You can feel the weight of her gaze, though her face is a deadpan state. It's as though she's cutting into you with her eyes.

"Roseton. It's Jack Roseton." you stammer out in a surprisingly suave manner.
"Well then, Jack Roseton, formerly known as Assistant, welcome to Istanbul. Now, might I ask that you leave me to my business?"
She's awfully cold, but you feel that she isn't trying to be rude. Surely someone like her has much more important work to do than play around with you and a cat. But, you've got to finish this up properly.
"I noticed you looking at the cat. You can keep her, if you'd like."
Her eyes open, just a bit, and she nods, picking up the kitten.
You leave the office, door swinging shut behind you. That went alright. Now, there's work to attend to.

The report is a little unusual though. Materiel shipments into Incirlik, the movement of air assets into Germany, you even see a preliminary scouting of potential airborne drop zones.
How curious, and yet perfectly reasonable that your ambassador would want to stay aware of the possibilities. But surely, things aren't so bad? After all, danger or otherwise, you were sent here to do this job.
Ah, yes, that's right. You were sent here under armed guard. No wonder you felt so safe.
In any case, the final concept of operations from Washington contains a brief on the potential diplomatic concerns, toes that might be stepped on in the continuation of the state department's foreign policy. It's your responsibility to make sure that the ambassador gets everything important. While you scan the document, you notice something unusual. It's a discretionary note to assign security to members of the diplomatic staff.
Do you:
1. Include the note in the brief. It's your head, so it's going to stay protected.
2. You want freedom, not some shadow. Leave this point out.

That's that then, you need all the protection you can get in this kind of climate.
You put together the packet and set off for the diplomatic offices. In the main room, a woman sits at a desk, talking away into a phone.
Noticing your entry, she puts the call on hold and extends her hand for the papers.
"This is it for today then? I'll go through it now."
"Right, ma'am."
You take a seat and watch as she shuffles through the documents, scanning rapidly.
"I see. This is good enough for now."
Her quiet approval fills you with pride, almost enough to burst. "Pleased to be of use!"
As you turn to leave the office and tend to other duties, she calls out.
"By the way, give this note to the lieutenant in the barracks. See what he can do for you."
"Shouldn't this be done through the Secret Service?" you want to ask, but of course there's no point in questioning your boss.
"Thank you."
The "barracks" are nothing more than a set of compact rooms in the west wing of the consulate. The large, open windows of the main assembly rooms are absent here, as the risk to security wasn't judged to be worth the view. You wave your card to the duty NCO and move toward the officers' residence. The simple hallways are easy to navigate, even for you.
This time, the door is open. You introduce yourself to the Lt, a junior officer with silver bars on his collar. He scans the note briefly, and then nods. Turning to his aide, he says, "Staff Sergeant, who's off duty right now?"
"Hold on sir, I'll grab someone."
After a few seconds, you hear a furious banging, and faintly "Get your blues on and get out here!"
Moments later, a young lady in a crumpled uniform rushes into the office and stands to attention.
"Lance Corporal Sheffield reporting as ordered, sir!" she shouts, like she's screaming out her drowsiness.
Oh, you know that face. It's the girl from earlier.
The Lt. gives a brief explanation, and starts to launch into an impromptu safety brief, which you cut short after he brings up underage drinking because there isn't any alcohol here anyway.
Sheffield looks at you, this time expressing an unspoken thanks rather than disgust. It's rather refreshing.
After she signs off on her sidearm, the two of you return to the main lounge. It's starting to creep into the afternoon, and you're through with work for the day.
"So?" she asks, "What'll it be now?"
You:
1. Go out and explore.
2. Invite her to eat with you.
3. See what else you can do.
