Like, I usually see praise for the story for a single post, followed by at least seven different complaints about either some dude's pink hair or
This wouldn't normally be a problem for me, but the sheer ratio of admiration to hate for the thing is really high from what posts I've been looking at. Is this worth my time?
You'll get four types of response:

1 - People who read or at least kept up with Apocrypha news and will say they like it.
2 - People who read vague summaries and will declare it bad.
3 - People who've vaguely heard about it and will say it's terrible because they say that about roughly every new TM thing. (This will be roughly half the total responses.)
4 - People who read or at least kept up with Apocrypha news and will say they don't like it.

The correct answer is that in the time it takes you to read the responses to this thread you could be halfway through the first volume so go read it instead of asking if it's worth reading.

It features moderately cool people and some of them do somewhat cool things. If that's what you look for in a work of entertainment, then you'll find it fine, because it sure ain't anything other than a work of entertainment.

imo, Apo is worth reading, but because of the large cast there are pacing issues so I cannot say that I like like it. What works in Higashide's favor for like Okeanos, is not that good here.
I would said that Fragments, even if it's weirdly organized has better pacing even though both works encompass about the same timeframe.

I enjoyed the two volumes I've gotten around to reading, so I would say give it a shot.

I mean it has problems but I would still say it's an enjoyable read.

Depends if you're the type to suffer because you can't read anymore. Since you don't seem to be that impatient to read, i'd advise to wait for Canon to finish volume 3. Then since Edreamer has been on the 4th for about a little bit of time, the latter will be probably finsh soon after the 3rd.

By doing so, you'll be able to read all volumes from 1 to 4!
You never know when those things come in handy...

I'm waiting for the whole Apocrypha to be released, translated, then add 1-2 years. That's when I'm reading this.

Or another scenario: Apocrypha ends and in 2 years time the will announce anime. I will wait for the anime, add 1-2 years, watch it, then read it.

    Man, I'm fucked up.

    Sounds good to me.
At that point I'll just take Siriel's advice.
    Thanks!

To me, Apo was not bad, but not exactly good, so I voted "nah" cuz there's no "it's kinda okay" choice. I like faction wars but I didn't like it here that much, idk why!!! I didn't like Sieg or his stuffs with Jeanne (I did enjoy their relationship early on but then...uhhh) and I also didn't like most of the Black Faction's servants. There are cool moments and huge battle scenes which will look amazing in an anime and the conflict of ideals between 2 Rulers are done quite well. Jeanne/Laeticia was cute and I liked most of Red Faction's servants (didn't like Berserker, he's just weird). Main antagonist is one of my favorite Japanese historic figure and I think he was done well.

I did have some good time reading it so I had the material book ordered (last year) and it will arrive in a few weeks when my friend return from Japan (back from his scholarship year) but I don't feel like reading the books again anytime soon, at least not before the manga is out.

Apocrypha is okay but not the best. At least the two volumes I've read have been. Sometimes it drags its feet pacing wise but the fight scenes are cool and I'm liking the actual plot.

I feel like Apo is Zero but with the things that made F/z popular turned up to eleven.

How so? They both have an ensemble cast without any one 'main character' (though some fit the bill more closely then others), but other then that I dunno how many similarities there are. F/Z was a dark tale examining the self-destruction inherent in following an absolute ideal, whereas Apocrypha seems more on the idealistic side of things to me (admittedly, I've read only some of Apoc and none of Zero). I guess you could think of Shirou Kotomine as being analogous to Kiritsugu to some degree in terms of his motives...
