Now I'm remembering when Mew complained about the translation of that prisma "don't use my chain" thing and I just looked at the kanji and didn't see what the problem was until someone else pointed out that it said.friendchain

Yeah, honestly I still don't see any problem with that one. Can't think of how it might have been translated better either.
"The world is just another word for the things you value around you, right? That's something I've had since I was born. If you tell me to rule such a world, I already rule it."
Thank goodness you're not the one in charge of thinking of better translations, then.

"Don't meddle with my bonds, mongrel.", or whatever equivalent. It's not like English has no word that you could use that can imply both a physical chain and an emotional tie. Even if you for some reason feel the need to convey the double meaning instead of just friend.

Literally even just replacing chain with friend is technically "better" since A) that's what he's actually saying (furigana denotes pronunciation, if it was a VN the voice would be saying "tomo" there) and B) the point of the scene is to communicate that he considers the chain Enkidu his actual friend from life. And that's not even getting into the fact that he's talking like Adult Gil.
But I have a sneaking suspicion that you'd like the one you read first the best no matter what, just out of gratitude for having the translation.

"Friend" or something along those lines was literally all that was needed
That wasn't even some thematic thing like Nasu writing "future" as "now" or clever wordplay, we know he is referring to the chain in that panel
'kay.
Fair enough.
I don't think I would, personally. I can appreciate better translations of stuff I have read translated differently before. Not that I never prefer the original translation of stuff I've read, mind.

I like how chaotic Blood Arthur activation looks in comparison to how elegant Balmug looks with that twilight background.
Kazikli Bey was as brutal as advertised so I'm pretty satisfied with that.
