I have vague responsibilities which involve chatting with people like me while my post count doesn't go up. I like being able to ban spambots, though.

Realtalk the most time-consuming mod work I do (unless you count browsing BL itself but it's not like I wouldn't do that without mod status) involves grabbing people off-site or in PMs and talking with them about why I did a particular mod action because that saves trouble down the line in 99% of the cases.

And it has less conflict potential cuz people are talking to a person in private and not INTERNET POLICE on the streets of the anime tiddy ghetto.

So far I think this instance of the staff is pretty closely involved with the community and we're avoiding the ivory tower situations of the past with this approach so hey. That's nice.

The most time consuming was during the UBW thread, I'd basically roll out of bed at 4 AM because of a report or some flamefest every night to handle it before trudging back to bed. Actually, that was before reports were used often, so with the super high activity you just had to be sitting there with a microscope looking over every thread constantly.
