I guess this case wasn't like Berserchariot's, in which I could make an exclusive skill related to his only feat without much trouble.

By the way, how messed up would it be if I made Ivan the Terrible a Ruler?

    Legend

Born the son of a cabinetmaker, Roentgen did not have many options for his future. He did not resent this fate, but he instead thrust himself into it wholesale. He greatly admired the beauty in his father’s cabinetry and strove to improve himself and eventually became good enough that he inherited his father’s workshop when he was 18. It was at this age that he met Kinzing, a skilled clock-maker who was two years younger than him. The two became great friends and even better business partners. Together, they journeyed from their native Germany to Paris: the style-center of Europe. It was there that they planned to make their fortune.
But the jealousy of their peers acted against them. The French trade corporation disputed his right to sell foreign-made goods made with foreign styles. In response, he circumvented their restriction by inventing a completely new style of cabinetry, one that used extremely tiny and carefully placed pieces to create almost a mosaic of veneer. His opponents had no chance but to accept Roentgen into their guild.
He flourished in France. His commission list was so far reaching that even the queen, Marie Antoinette, came to know of him. This was another turning point in his career. She personally visited his shop and made him her personal furniture maker on the spot. Many of his best works were commissioned by her, whether for her own personal use or for her husband. As they were both Germans by birth, they became very close during that time. Eventually though, he took to touring Europe with his partner. Together, they made a vast fortune selling furniture to royalty throughout the continent. Marie kept in touch, of course, sending him gifts and the latest in Parisian fashions.

    Tactics

Roentgen works best with a master skilled in subterfuge. The concealability of his devices allows a master to carry a veritable arsenal of devices without much change to their profile. Since Roentgen’s devices are not particularly powerful, subterfuge is a key strategy. It matters more how they are used than how strong they really are by themselves. Of course, a master with an economic bent could make use of their Roentgen's other skills. Perhaps they could even open up shop together in some major city, somewhere far away from the Grail War.
The relationship between Roentgen and Kinzing could be likened to that of a pilot and his mechanic. Most of Roentgen's wooden components were constructed by Kinzing, who also installed them. Sometimes, Kinzig adds and installed components without telling Roentgen first. Despite this, their relationship is a friendly, fraternal one.

    Class Abilities

    Territory Creation: D
A skill that allows a Servant to build a special terrain that is advantageous to themselves as a mage. Rather than a Workshop, Roentgen creates an “Atelier.” Although much smaller in scale compared to a Workshop, it is a place where he can efficiently work his woodworking magic and maybe even turn a profit. It lacks many of the features of a traditional mage’s territory.

    Item Construction (False): A
A skill that acts as an equivalent to Item Construction for those who lack aptitude as magi. Through a clever use of his Noble Phantasm, Roentgen is able to produce magical artifacts using exceedingly precise craftsmanship. Upon manifesting, he will always create a miniature automaton patterned after “Peter Kinzing,” a precision clockmaker who produced the intricate machinery Roentgen's work is known for. The automaton then serves as a home for the real Kinzing’s wraith. Kinzing normally has no real combat potential, but he greatly increases Roentgen's combat ability while present

    Personal Skills

    Synthetic Limbs (Puppet): B++
A skill that denotes that a Servant’s flesh has become a man-made mechanism. In this case, it is machinery made of intricate layers of wood with brass clockwork. Bonus modifiers are added to combat and success checks. At B rank and above, not only the limbs but much of the entire body is artificial. He possessed a mechanical body in life, though the clockwork and woodwork was so intricately crafted that it was nearly impossible to tell the difference without touching it or looking for the joints. He didn't intend to gain a body like this; his own body worked perfectly fine, but over time Kinzing replaced Roentgen's body parts in order to refine his machining skills.

    Eye For Art: C
Infatuation with works of art. If he happens to see a Noble Phantasm that possesses artistic anecdotes, there is a moderate chance that he might be able to figure out its true name. While his focus might be in cabinetry, Roentgen also had to research operas, contemporary fashions, paintings, and legends in order to fulfill his patron's requests. In due time, he himself fell in love with those works and may occasionally replicate artifacts from them using Harlequin.

    Golden Rule: C+
A skill that measures one’s fortune to acquire wealth. As a master of the Harlequin Cabinetry style and unique veneering methods, Roentgen’s wealth flourished thanks to personal commissions from royalty and other nobles. He is first and foremost an astute man of business, so this skill will always come into play when even somewhat applicable.

    Combination: D
A Skill that displays how much one's combat power increases when on a united front with a specific person. This skill considers the Kinzing-automaton to be Roentgen’s partner. With Kinzing’s constant maintenance, Roentgen’s wooden parts function with much higher efficiency.

    Noble Phantasm

    Harlequin ~Royal Lily Style~
Blossom for thy Queen, Little Wooden Flower

    Rank: B
    Type: Anti-Group Noble Phantasm
    Range: 0~20 m
    Maximum Targets: 30 People

Harlequin. A style of cabinetry named after the amusing trickery of the theatrical character. While not the inventor of this style, Roentgen was the first to be truly called a “master” of the art. In its basic state, this Noble Phantasm is simply the potential to create contained within him. Much like his own secretary cabinets, Roentgen contains any number of hidden devices and secret compartments within his mechanical parts. The sheer density of this far surpasses what should normally fit within the volume of his rather frail looking body. In fact, this amount also doesn’t line up with his rather low body weight. The dimensional transcendence of his body is due to this Noble Phantasm. Whenever he needs a device, whatever it may be, he may pass a luck check to “have had it within him this entire time.” The luck check becomes more difficult the less probable it could be that he contains it within him. Of course, he can’t replicate the unique abilities of others, but it's not impossible for him to have a whole weapon system inside of him (especially not with Kinzing loitering about).
The Royal Lily Style is a slight modification of the Harlequin Noble Phantasm. Using his marquetry abilities, he has managed to alter his form into one he thinks will be more to “her” liking. In altering his form, he has also altered Harlequin itself. The Royal Lily Style changes his veneer styles and the decorations on his devices into more floral patterns and designs. Activating this Noble Phantasm with the invocation of its true name causes him to “bloom.” By consuming the “potential” of the devices within him, he creates a tantalizing and ephemeral display of instantaneous woodworking that resembles an impossibly beautiful lily. Enemies who view it have the image imprinted into their minds and must deal with Mental Interference checks to resist being stunned. Those who have an appreciation for the arts must pass a more difficult interference check. This stunning effect leaves them open for Kinzing, who benefits from the woodworking display. He is transformed by it into something resembling a “giant mecha version” of his normal puppet form. This enhanced Kinzing then lays down a rain of deadly wooden stakes across the enemy camp. What’s left could almost be called a forest.
This usage of his Noble Phantasm seals its inherent dimensional transcendence for some time; he need time to “recharge” his internal stores of devices before he can use their potential again.

    Author's Notes
Here's another member of Marie Antoinette's... harem? Marie actually sent Roentgen dolls wearing dresses so that he could give them to her mother and sister's dressmakers... dolls which here I'm slightly implying were actually just Roentgen wearing the dresses. This isn't the reason for his wooden construction, by the way. That's just an aside. I'm blaming Kinzing for that one. There's not much on Kinzing, actually, other than him being Roentgen's collaborator. He too was favored by Marie, but not to the extent Roentgen was. If anything, I've pictured Kinzing as the sort of mad scientist who would turn his best friend into a wooden robot just to see if he could.

David Roentgen: A pretty unique and nice take on a figure who is only known to be a cabinetmaker... who happens to be a friend to a certain queen. But I have a few nitpicks; first, his Skill sections seems to a bit... bare? maybe add some, uh, as Royd put it, flavor text to it to make it a bit more appealing. Also, his Golden Rule Skill is too high, even a filthy rich Emperor like Darius III only got it on B, and B+ technically could be higher than freaking Gilgamesh's A rank, so yeah, maybe D or E would be more appropriate. Other than that, the NPs are pretty good and it's overall a solid sheet.

    Background
Ivan Vasílievich, also known as Ivan IV and Ivan the Terrible, was one of the most important Czars to have existed in the history of Russia, but also one of the most feared, as his title implies. Born as the grandson of Ivan the Great, his father Basil III died when he was 3, having his mother reign as a regent until she died five years later. During the period of regency, the situation of Russia quickly declined as noblemen fought for the legitimacy of the queen’s rule. Those who looked after Ivan scorned and neglected him, what influenced in the development of his ruthless personality.

In 1547, Ivan rose to the throne as Ivan IV and married Anastasia Romanovna. One of the most important reforms during the constructive period of his reign was the institution of regulations on the duties of the boyar class serving the crown. Regarding foreign policy, Ivan sought the expansion of Russia, extending Muscovy control to the Urals and the Caspian Sea in 1552 and 1556, respectively, what created a buffer zone against the Mongol army. The annexation of Lithuania to gain access to the Baltic Sea, however, failed due to one of Ivan’s advisers defecting to Lithuania and leading the Lithuanian army to defeat Ivan’s. The Czar’s efforts were successful at the beginning, but his methods – seizing private land and redistributing among his supporters, creating the Oprichniki to punish rebels… – not only disrupted the economy, but also made him be feared and unpopular.

In 1560, Anastasia passed away, and with her death, Ivan’s mental condition went to worse. He went into a deep depression and his paranoia worsened, believing his wife had been killed by the boyars. He left Moscow abruptly and almost abdicated. It was only thanks to the pleads of the Muscovites that he returned, under the condition that he’d have absolute power of the region surrounding Moscow and the authority to punish law breakers and traitors as he deemed fit. For 24 years, Ivan ruled through terror, displacing and destroying almost all the boyar families, and earning the moniker of Groznyi. Having become an absolute ruler, he believed he, as the maximum authority of the nation, was a representative of God, and therefore his will was that of the Lord. As a result of his paranoia, he beat his daughter-in-law while she was pregnant, causing a miscarriage, killed his son in a fit of rage, and blinded the architect of St. Basil’s cathedral.

Ivan spent his last days surrounded by mages and soothsayers, obsessed with death and wishing to stay alive, but to no avail. In March of 1584, he died of a heart stroke while he was playing chess. His death left the country in disarray, scarred both politically and socially. The successor, Feodor, was an unfit ruler and his reign spiraled Russia into the Time of Troubles, leading to the rise of the Romanov Dynasty. While he was far from being the most beloved Czar, Ivan was responsible of the maximum expansion of Russia, broadening its domains in all directions and protecting it from the enemy Mongol army. He is also the responsible of ordering the construction of many famous buildings, like the popular St. Basil’s cathedral in Moscow, and the Golden Library, which was said to contain documents from all the parts of the world, including remains from the libraries of Alexandria and Constantinople. This library, that would eventually be lost in time along with Ivan’s memories of it, is a paradise for magi, as it’s filled with several documents about magecraft of any kind, including the Magic-level spells from the Age of Gods.

    Personality
Undoubtedly one of the hardest Servants to control, second only to Berserkers. Besides the general condition of king Servants that makes them more reluctant to obey for not being used to be the ones serving, there’s his paranoiac mentality, which makes him see conspiracies everywhere. This complicates greatly the relation with his Master, constantly thinking he’s going to be betrayed by them. If this kind of thoughts persists, it’s very likely he ends killing the Master to “protect himself”.

Firmly believing that the title of the Czar is a synonym of absoluteness, Ivan thinks he should be the one giving orders This sense of superiority hinders the creation of a friendship bond, but by demonstrating loyalty and reliability, a relation of brotherhood can be born. If that happens, the probabilities of ending been attacked by him during a fit of madness will become much lower.

Living up to its title of “the Terrible”, Ivan is a ruthless opponent in battle. Assuming any method is valid to eliminate the rebels who oppose his authority as the Czar, he couldn’t care less about things like chivalry or honor. Rebels are scum, and nobody is considerate with scum. This demonic fighting style doesn’t mean he has strayed from the path of the Lord. Surprisingly enough, one can find Ivan praying for forgiveness outside the battlefield at almost any time of the day. As a matter of fact, he’s a very religious man that loves God, and will probably pray for his Master’s wellness if he gets along with them.

Same as any other Ruler-class Servant, Ivan doesn’t hold any wish for the Grail. It may be surprising, considering someone like him would wish to revive to continue his rule or something similar. But if he’s asked about why he doesn’t have any wish, he’ll answer like this:

“My will is absolute. I don’t need any chalice to grant whichever desire I have.”

Despite being a Ruler and not having any wish, it’s highly probable that Ivan eventually wants to destroy the Holy Grail, something that opposes the essential duty of Rulers. This, of course, would happen out of fear of being “betrayed” by the Grail, and would only happen if he’s summoned by it. This is the main reason why him being summoned as a Ruler is very improbable.

    Skills
    Class skills
    Magic Resistance B-
Provides resistance against any spell with a chant of three verses or below, even if it’s High-Thaumaturgy or a Great Ritual spell. Ivan doesn’t possess a high rank of innate resistance, but has obtained this level thanks to the data about magecraft recorded in his library. The minus modifier comes from Ivan’s memory failing him from time to time and making him forget this information temporarily, resulting in a reduction of the skill’s effectiveness.

    God’s Resolution A:
The privilege that is bestowed only to the Ruler presiding over the Holy Grail War, a skill exclusive of the Ruler class: the possession of Command Spells. A Ruler will normally obtain two Command Spells by Servant participating in the Holy Grail War. Command Spells from Masters cannot be re-purposed.

    True Name Discernment B:

Automatically reveals all the relevant information of Servants that are directly encountered, such as True Name, parameters and skills. If the Servant possesses a concealment ability that masks their identity, a Luck check must be succeeded in order to bypass it.

    Personal skills
    Contradictory Mind A:
A skill representing the paranoia of Ivan the Terrible. Different from the insanity of Mental Pollution or Mad Enhancement, it should be considered as something closer to bipolarity. This allows mutual understanding without having to concern about anything but Ivan’s own personality. Sometimes praying with great devotion, sometimes applying the cruelest punishments to those he distrusts, “good” and “evil” can’t be properly assigned to Ivan’s behavior. As a result, his alignment shifts between Lawful and Chaotic along with his mood.

    Imperial Privilege A:

An ability reserved to emperors that allows to obtain and use temporarily skills that aren’t usually possessed through sheer insistence. At a high rank, equal or superior to A, burdens to the body, like Divinity, can be acquired or removed. In the case of Ivan the Terrible, his relevant skills are Charisma, swordsmanship, fine arts, Military Tactics, Divinity, and Mana Burst (Lightning). The two latter are his personal favorites, as he becomes closer to the image of a representative of God.

    Torture Techniques B:

Shows an excellent degree of ability at torturing others. Strengthening bloodshed and agony, the total damage dealt is increased. Usage of torture tools as weapons further increases damage. Among the deeds performed by Ivan the Terrible, we can count drowning or roasting people alive, pouring boiling and freezing water over their bodies, throwing them naked in an ice-cold river during winter… These torments were the same as those that were said to be done in Hell. Seeing how Ivan thought of himself as a spokesman of God, it isn’t unlikely that he considered he was imparting divine punishment.

    Noble Phantasm
    Чёрный Опричник (Chornyy Oprichnik)
The black dogs that feast together with me

    Type: Anti-Unit
    Rank: B
    Description:

“Come forth, my brethren. Even after this long time, there are those who dare oppose the Czar. Find them, rob them, kill them, violate them! You have my permission to do as you please with those maggots!”

The royal guard of Ivan the Terrible, also known as the Oprichniki. Acting as the Czar’s hands and feet, they had the authority to seize lands and properties from noblemen, and were the ones in charge of punishing rebels. Led by Ivan himself, the Oprichniki wore black garbs and rode black horses, from whose necks they hung the head of a dog, to "sniff out treason". Their weapon of choice was a broom-like whip knit to "sweep evil away". Their sight alone made clear what would happen to those who dared oppose the Czar.

During Ivan's reign of terror, he selected 300 of his men as his brotherhood and allowed them to live with him at his castle in Aleksandrovskaia. The Oprichniki acquired a level of autonomy that let them commit practically any kind of crime, from rape to murder, unpunished as long as they didn’t attempt to harm the hand that fed them. At 4 in the morning, they listened to Ivan’s sermons. During the meals, the Czar sang while they ate and didn’t eat anything until they finished.

As a Noble Phantasm, Ivan is able to manifest his brothers in a wretched form. Undeserving to appear as Servants, they have become chimeric shadow beasts, riders and rides fused into unnatural creatures that represent the terror they and their leader provoked on the Russian people. The severed dog’s head they carried has been stitched together into the body of the horrors, adding more gruesomeness to their aspect. This has also given them the ability to track the enemy by following their scent. They’re fast enough to not lose track of a Rider’s mount – even if they can’t reach it – and possess Torture Techniques at E rank. As for the type of this Noble Phantasm, it’s classified as Anti-Unit for the Oprichnik not being an organization made to battle enemy armies, but a police force whose purpose was to protect the Czar from rebel attacks.

Буря · Святой Приход (Burya · Svyatoy Prikhod)
The storm that announced my advent

    Type: Anti-Army
    Rank:
    A
    Description:

“Those who conquer the sky will have conquered it all. Therefore, my thunderous advent that conceals the heavens is an omen of my absolute rule. Burya · Svyatoy Prikhod!”

It was said that, at the same moment Ivan the Terrible was born, a massive thunderstorm broke. Mighty and fearsome, the storm seemed to augur how the Czar would turn out to be as a ruler. Perhaps it was a signal from heavens to announce what the future held for Russia. In any case, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume this tempest is what best represents the authority of the man known as Groznyi.

At the moment of Ivan’s summoning, and whenever he enters the battlefield, dark thunderclouds will gather at the sky above the area. Immediately after, torrential rains will fall, and thunderbolts of great intensity will strike the earth. Needless to say that Ivan can control the storm at will to wreak havoc all over the battlefield, but that’s not the Noble Phantasm’s true worth. As a symbol of Ivan’s authority that covers the sky, any condition regarding the time of the day, weather, or presence of celestial bodies in the sky is sealed and rendered useless. Additionally, Divnity for every Servant present, except for Ivan, is reduced one rank.

    Relations
Ivan the Terrible (Lostbelt): “This is certainly, the power a representative of God ought to possess! Even if it’s on a different course of history, for me to be the wielder of that power, it must mean I have truly been chosen by the Lord!”

Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova: “Anastasia is here? No, she’s not her…”

    Vlad III:
“The impaler, huh? He devoted himself to God yet didn’t doubt in ruling through terror… We could get along over time.”

    Marie Antoinette:
“Your rule is as fragile as your crystal steed. Pretty words and unconditional love don’t have any use, young girl… But I guess you already know that.”

    Artoria Pendragon:
“As expected of a little girl, your ideals of kingship are just fantasies. Talking with you is a waste of time.”

Iskandar: “Uniting dreams under the same banner, not through fear, but through friendship… How foolish. What is a king for, if not for being feared?”

Gilgamesh: “A king cannot be arrogant. They being powerful is a fact.”

    Mordred:
    “UNFORGIVABLE, UNFORGIVABLE, UNFORGIVABLE!!!”

I wanted to make him similar yet dissimilar to Lostbelt Ivan, so the first NP isn't identical. I replaced Almighty Supreme Authority with Imperial Privilege because having 2/3 personal skills being the same would make it look as if I was being lazy, probably. Not to mention that having both together would be a wank overload. While I'm not the kind of person to give important abilities based on footnote anecdotes (looking at certain Spanish philosopher and his super-golem based on "may have built a golem maid"), the storm NP looked like a cool idea to represent Ivan's authority and to be an equivalent of "mountain-sized mammoth that shoots lightning".

Of course, he can qualify as all those clases, but the idea of making an evil Ruler was funny (at least for me). Lostbelt Ivan doesn't have his library either, but it's understandable considering the situation of his world (not to mention that our-world Ivan forgot about its existence) and his class.

Alright, honest question: if you guys fill in the Height/Weight part of a template, do you go by what feels right, historical data, comparing it to other Servants you've made, and do you plug that into BMI calculators and the like?

Best interest is to search for any historical data. And if not, proceed to make what feels appropriate and plug in the BMI.
The Act of dozing off in the afternoon is a luxury indeed.
    Coffee would be nice, though.

In the case of Ivan, I've read that his height/weight were like the ones in my sheet at the moment of his death, but I usually write whatever I seem logical. For example, I wouldn't make a Celtic warrior shorter than 180 cm, or a 170 cm Japanese girl.

But anyways, is that really important, considering we have things like 7ft Iskandar?

No, no. Those are pretty valid criticisms. Modified the sheet to take those criticisms into account!

Hear me now, O heart of the World:
Light of Man, Dawn of Life
    Reaching Antiquity, Seizing the Future
I call upon the stories of heroes long forgotten
With this hand I will make thee whole.

Historical data, if not, what I feel right, cool or cute.

@Ruler Ivan: One thing to consider is, the whole point of Lostbelt Ivan is that, he normally is not that powerful. That is why he becomes a Yaga (thus reaching the realm of Divine Spirits), to survive the Lostbelt. If he can be easily gain something similar in term of power by summoned as a Ruler, he definitely not gonna resort into a Yaga. So, having an Authority of the sky is kinda defeat the whole point of the canon one.

    +1 for effort tho.

For one thing, Ivan became a Yaga (along with everyone else in Russia) not to fight people, but just to survive. It's not a matter of power-levels, but adaptation. Also, the Ivan in the Russia Lostbelt was his historical self while alive, not a Heroic Spirit, so that he might attain similar levels of power as a Heroic Spirit doesn't really seem problematic or contradictory to me.

Like Royd has said, Lostbelt Ivan is still his historical self. My Ivan is already a Heroic Spirit, and shouldn't have been able to summon storms during his life, same as how Marie Antoinette didn't use a crystal horse during her life or at least that's what I know. But I understand if it enters the realm of wank, as it's a middle finger to some high-tier Servants like Gawain and Chiron.
