Alright lads here's the rulebook, it's a rough draft so go easy on me winky face and please ignore anything that looks imbalanced since it's a rough draft winky face teehee

    Spoiler:
Sinner and Saint … bleed alike

You’re fucking dead and went to hell because you’re an awful person. In fact, you’re downright vile. The worst of the worst. Only one out of every million sinners cast down into the Inferno will be as incorrigibly evil as you are. But that’s a good thing, because truly vile Sinners (with a capital S, because at this level of sin your kind deserve to be treated as a proper noun) have much higher capacity to internalize SUFFERING, a special energy that allows Sinners to exist in the Inferno. At high enough amounts, SUFFERING will cause you to develop a VICE, a special power related to your own personal horrible lifestyle before you died.

Suffering is important. If you don’t suffer, you disappear. Forever. The act of suffering itself sustains your existence in the Inferno. Of course, it wouldn’t be very fun to spend the entire game looking for things to make yourself miserable so you can continue to exist. Fortunately, you don’t have to be the one doing the suffering. You can make someone else suffer, and then absorb that Suffering to sustain yourself.

Normally, the natural masters of this place, Demons, would be in charge of torturing Sinners for eternity, keeping their Suffering from depleting. Like you, a Sinner, Demons sustain themselves off Suffering, but unlike you, Demons multiply the Suffering they take from others, and then radiate it so that Sinners can also continue to exist, and so long as they exist, they may suffer, creating an endless loop where Demons and Sinners sustain each other.

Something broke this natural mutual relationship between Demons and Sinners. That would be the evolution of Vices, which allowed Sinners to turn the tables and make Demons suffer, or outright kill Demons. Unfortunately the natural balance never accounted for this, and the absence of Demons has created a rather harsh environment for Sinners that desire to continue existing. There’s only so much Suffering to go around in the Circles where Sinners reign dominant.

On the upper Circles Sinners slay fellow Sinners, cannibalizing their Suffering and taking their Vice Arts. All the while, down below more ambitious Sinners dive to the lower Circles, hungry to sate their appetite on the Suffering of the Demons in the lower Circles.

Further still, true mad men among Sinners even try to trespass into Heaven, a fertile place for sowing the seeds of Suffering. The methods of climbing out of the Inferno and entering Paradise are varied, and many Sinners advise against it. Excursions into Paradise frequently invite retaliation, and Sinners are often slain in droves as a result of such things. Of course, there isn’t a Sinner in the Inferno who cares for the wellbeing of his or her fellows, so don’t worry about that if you decide to go upstairs.

Essentially, this will be an RP for players to play really try hard edgy/mindlessly evil characters and be incorrigibly awful people, with anime fighting.

And what’s anime fighting without stats and powerlevels?

Let’s get into those. Before talking about the parameters for character strength, let's talk about resources and other important things.

Agony: A neutral mechanic that acts as a tug of war that plays with the action economy. Runs in cycles (a set number of turns/rounds) after which one participant in battle will receive an Agonized state. Normally that would suck, but being Agonized in the Inferno is a boon. Normally only one player will be getting Agonized per cycle barring extreme and unique circumstances. Promotes using minimal, smart actions over numerous thoughtless actions. Agony is the primary method of filling up Misery so combatants can begin using Vice Arts. Which abilities/actions cause Agony, and which abilities/actions lower Agony, will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Suffering: Something like stamina or more appropriately life energy, though it is NOT HITPOINTS/HEALTH, starts at 100, depletes simply by existing. At zero you FUCKING DIE. Suffering can be used to cast Vice Arts, but this isn’t usually a good idea. Suffering is restored by hurting or killing Sinners, Demons, Saints or Angels.

Misery: Basically, your mana bar. Vice Arts are primarily cast from this. Starts at 0 and has to be filled up by fighting. Taking damage, dealing damage, specific Cardinal Sin actions, and winning the Agony tug of war will be methods of acquiring Misery. After a fight, this resource returns to 0 unless another fight is initiated immediately.

Vice: For those in Ga Rei: Exodus Nine, this is equivalent to Ga Rei ESP. For those that are in Ga Rei already, something like Saki’s pyromancy would be a Vice.

For those that aren’t, think of a Vice as a general powertheme for your starting Vice Arts, as well as encompassing a few free attacks that don’t require Misery, like someone with a fire producing Vice being able to throw normal fireballs free of charge.

Vice Art: Special moves that originate thematically from the Sinner’s Vice. Following up on the Vice example, pyromancy and normal fireballs would be a function of her Vice itself, creating a clone of yourself out of fire that can perform its own unique, separate actions, or throwing a fireball that chases the target until it hits, would be a Vice Art, a type of special move with a Misery cost applied. Killing a Sinner or Demon will allow the player to take a Vice Art from the defeated enemy and permanently add it to their character’s list of Vice Arts, making killing other characters the primary form of growth. During character creation the player would get the freedom to give these properties of their own choosing, and from there the GM would assign them a Suffering cost proportional to their strength.

Effect/Afflictions: The reason Vice Arts are good. While trying to keep things as freeform as possible, Afflictions would do mean stuff, with an extremely basic example being hard stunning somebody to prevent them from taking action next turn. By their very nature they should be unfair and really obnoxious to fight against, encouraging players to prioritize the Agony system so that they can quickly get their hands on some Suffering and start throwing out Vice Arts, rather than wanting to just punch somebody out with their fists.

Cardinal Sin: A sort of attribute determined by which of the Seven Deadly Sins your Vice falls under/stems from. These do lots of things, and not everything about them will be made known at character creation. They may gives cool secret bonuses, may also give demerits, or just be things to add flavor. However, there will be some very obvious benefits to taking them right from the start.

    Cardinal Sins

Pride: The Proud Sinner starts the game with three extra Vice Arts. Cannot absorb Vice Arts from defeated enemies. For every three enemies slain the Proud Sinner may create a completely new Vice Art. Every time an enemy is slain the Proud Sinner may add one entirely new Affliction to a preexisting Vice Art, with a limit of up to two bonus Afflictions per Vice Art.

Greed: The Greedy Sinner is capable of absorbing not only Vice Arts, but Virtue Arts, abilities used by Saints and Angels. Dealing a lethal blow to an enemy instantly restores Suffering to max, as well as adding the slain enemy’s current Suffering and Misery to the Greedy Sinner’s own. This extra Suffering and Misery can exceed the maximum limit of the Greedy Sinner, but does not permanently raise that limit. Misery can be stockpiled and does not disappear after battle. When the Greedy Sinner has a stockpile of Misery, it will deplete as in place of Suffering.

Lust: The Lustful Sinner is given a hard cap of ‘equipped’ Vice Arts. Lustful Sinners have the ability to select two Vice Arts from a slain enemy’s Vice Arts and permanently add it to their sheet’s Vice Art armory. Before beginning a fight, the player may choose which Vice Arts from the armory to equip for that fight. In other words, a Lustful Sinner gets to continually add Vice Arts to their sheet via absorbing at double the rate, but they may only use a certain number of those Vice Arts during a fight, which they may pick and choose at their leisure on the first turn of battle.

Envy: After being the victim of a Vice Art, the Envious Sinner may temporarily absorb that Vice Art without killing the opponent, with a maximum limit of two Vice Arts taken in this way. These Vice Arts are sealed from the previous owner’s use until the Envious Sinner is slain. Vice Arts absorbed through Envy’s Sin will be lost if the original owner is killed, and the Envious Sinner will absorb a Vice Art normally.

Gluttony: The Gluttonous Sinner’s Suffering depletes faster, but their Vice is much stronger. In addition, the Gluttonous Sinner can begin the game with a Gluttony Art, a Vice Art that has no Misery Cost and doesn't count to their starting Vice Art limit. Certain restrictions and/or demerits will be placed on Gluttony Arts, on a case by case basis. Every time the Gluttonous Sinner kills an enemy they may create a new Gluttony Art.

Wrath: The Wrathful Sinner cannot absorb Vice Arts from fellow Sinners. Only slaying Demons may yield the Wrathful Sinner Vice Arts. All of the Wrathful Sinner’s Vice Arts start with an additional effect, and their Misery costs are lower than what their Vice Arts would ordinarily be. In addition, the Wrathful Sinner can begin the game with a Wrath Art, a Vice Art that has no Misery Cost and instantly puts the Wrathful Sinner into an Agonized state. Certain restrictions and/or demerits will be placed on Wrath Arts, on a case by case basis. The Wrath Art is treated as a normal Vice Art that counts toward the Wrathful Sinner's starting Vice Art limit.

Sloth: The Slothful Sinner may never act first in battle. If two Slothful Sinners fight, a coin will be tossed to determine the first to act. Suffering depletes much slower for the Slothful Sinner, and when Suffering is used to cast Vice Arts each point of Suffering counts as 3 points of Misery. Slothful Sinners are the only Sinners permitted to take Afflictions that interfere with Agony. In addition, Slothful Sinners will begin every battle with one step toward Agonized.

Alright, we’ve got some sufficiently, needlessly convoluted anime shit for mechanics nailed down. Let’s look at the stuff you need to fill out for character creation.

You: Who are you, when did you live, how did you die, what kind of person were (and still are) you?

Sin: Tell me what makes you terrible enough to be here.

    Cardinal Sin: Pick one.

Vice: Go wild. Try to keep it somewhat in line with you, the individual, but I’m not going to nail you down for not doing that.

Vice Arts: You’re starting with four unless your Cardinal Sin says otherwise.

Karma Gear: You know how everyone in shitty urban fantasy LNs gets some magical, spontaneously appearing weapon that kind of reflects them as an individual? You get to have one of those. For free. That’s right, for free. Give it a cool, tryhard name, something that you’d be embarrassed to say out loud. As you level up, this thing might actually get special traits that enhance your Vice or Cardinal Sin, but for now it’s just a piece of equipment.

Have some stats. These go from 1-8, and by default are at 1, except for the INC stat. Of course, these values don’t represent the you that was alive, but the you that exists as a miserable pile of evil. You’re stronger and faster than you were when you were alive.

You have 22 points to distribute.

STR: How hard are you gonna hit things? At max rank, you’re putting dents in bedrock. At the lowest rank, you’re a slightly weaker than normal person.

SPD: Gotta go fast! Maxed out, you’re basically an olympic sprinter. At the lowest rank, you’re a sightly slower than normal person. One thing to know is that this is movement speed and has no bearing on something like the speed of your nothin-personnel-kid katana slash.

VIT: What does it take to kill you? At the highest rank, you’re the Terminator. At the lowest rank, you better pray that nobody hits you.

DPR: Depravity. This is how well Suffering lingers around you and slows the rate at which your Suffering depletes. Don’t underestimate this stat. The higher the rank, the slower your Suffering depletes.

INC: Incorrigibility. This is basically ‘how much awfulness you radiate.’ It’s your Sinner body odor. This is good and bad for a variety of reasons. Demons and Sinners hungry for a big fish that might otherwise not appear may be inclined to approach a Sinner with high INC. At max rank, everyone in the Circle you’re in has a general idea of where you are. By default this stat is at max at no cost. Lowering this stat is much like increasing another stat and costs you a stat point.

“Wow Spinach where’s the stat that determines dodging?”

You don’t get one. Evadetanks get out or make Vice Arts to enable full evasion.

Now then, with that out of the way allow me to formally welcome you to Die.

did you think it was joke

    wasn't joke...
