Player and Maestro just sound stupid, gdi Nero you're not a musical instrument even if you could sing.
Then again, I thought Praetor was kinda odd until I got used to it. I wonder if in an alternative universe where Fate/Extra used "Maestro" I would be REEEEEing about Last Encore using Praetor to sound less silly.

Nero calls Hakuno 奏者, which means "instrumentalist" or "player [of an instrument]". This is because something something Nero is an instrument etc.
EXTRA (?) and Extella officially translate this as "Praetor". Praetor is dumb because it refers to a governmental position in ancient rome, so you completely lose out on the music related thing Nero's going for.
When Last Encore aired, there was a huge fuss about how the first group still used Praetor.
Then the next group came along and used "Maestro" instead, because you know, "master" and it's music related. But then there's the fact that more often than not, maestro doesn't refer to "a master of their instrument" (as it could per definition), but more to the conductor (They also liked this one since it's Italian or w/e and Rome is in Italy, but then ancient Romans didn't speak Italian so...).
Then the next group came along again, and decided to use "Ludius", meaning being latin for "[stage] performer". So now we have the actual language Nero would've spoken (this whole thing is stupid anyway since you know, grail knowledge), but Ludius isn't directly related to music like 奏者 is.

Basically, they're all shit and no matter which one is chosen someone's gonna get upset about it, and they should just sub it as Sousha, just like they shouldn't translate stuff like Senpai, tbh.
