How the fuck is marisbury a more rational name, at least Billy is a name
So is Bury, if we're going by that logic.
It all sounds british to me so it’s fine
everyone knows british people aren’t real so this all works out
Marisbury sounds pretty British to me.
Marisbury sounds like a real name to me.
Marisbilly sounds ridiculous and fake.

Naming at the Clock tower generally goes First Name Last Name Department Name, correct?
If you are from a branch family
First Name Origin Family Name Last Name
So the Democratic Lords are mostly like that"Nope." After coughing into his sleeve, the young man grinned. "Brishisan. Maio Brishisan Clynelles."
"Oh, Brishisan?" They were a pretty high-ranking family.
Of course they didn't have authority on the level of someone like the Barthomelloi, but they wouldn't fall behind if it came to history or research. They were a stereotypical example of a neutral family. And while the nature of the magecraft of those within the Faculty of Lore was quite varied, they were recognized as the holders of the rarest literature in the entire Clock Tower.
The fact that Brishisan was only his middle name meant he wasn't actually a member of the family itself, but simply under their care. Likely he was a member of some branch family of theirs, but the fact that anyone of the Brishisan faction had shown up at the Twin Towers was a big indication of how much attention the event was getting.
Like Inorai Valueleta Atroholm or McDonell Trambelio Elrod
While the aristocratic are mostly First Name Middle Name Last Name.
Olga-Marie Asmlet Animusphere
The yddg are special because they all take Ygg as their last name
Euylphyis is weird because they're aristocratic and but choose the successor and the successor gets the name Euylphis at the end.
But mostly, for like magi who aren't part of the 12 families and their branches, it's just First Name Middle Name (If any) Family Name. I'd assume if you do belong to a branch then you follow the first method.

I don't think so because she is a member of the Sophia-Ri branch of the Nuada-Re family, if I'm not mistaken.
Also, do we know if the Tohsaka prior to Tokiomi's death were part of a faction, or were they just so backwater no one bothered incorporating them or they never bothered with CT politics?
I think he was seen in CT as "Good Guy Tokiomi doing Good Things" but was pretty much on his own

my guess is this
Because Rufus kept his Nuada-Re name when he became Lord. It wouldn't make much sense unless Nuada-Re was his family.

Okay I think the "mostly" with first/middle/last for aristocratic threw me off, since I was figuring the naming was indicative of the faction.
Considering that "Maris" is a real given name and "Bury" is a real surname I could buy "Maris Bury" or even "Maris-Bury". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
