Interesting or Useful Free or 'Freemium' Web Services

Hi this is my SOS thread to Strife. But basically, I just wanted to make a thread to ask for my own reference and others' what online services are good, what do you use, what might you use, etc. That way we can compare and contrast things? I said free or freemium because most of us are broke-ish.

The first thing I was wondering if anything knew anything about was this thing called evernote: https://evernote.com/

It looks like you can make kind of functional, really modern GeoCities looking informational websites easily on it?

What would be the go-to thing, more tech-savvy people, for a 'free' website these days?

Or just share any other free or mostly free cool thing that you use online and tell us why it's good.

I think http://www.weebly.com/ is good for making free websites without coding?

I don't really think that's what Evernote is for, it's more for writing notes and stuff?

Github for code bases, even comes with Github pages if you want to host a static webpage. I could show you mine but it's a glorified resume with personal info so I'd rather not.

If you have a .edu email, there's the Github education pack with a bunch of free trial (usually one year) web services and software

Referral link for dropbox for cloud storage services. Has an app on every platform and doesn't have file size upload limits like OneDrive or Google Drive does.

Speaking of:
Google Drive and OneDrive are great for storing documents and photos. They both also have office suites if you don't want to bother downloading files and editing them locally.

I am interested in learning more coding but right now my life is too busy to understand a lot of new information. So is GitHub templates or what? I'm a bit confused. I know enough HTML and CSS mostly to edit sort of premade templates or structures like tumblr themes or, back in the day, livejournal layouts. I just don't necessarily need to spend a bunch of time building a site for basic things I was thinking about putting on one.

Github is a code repo, basically you can host code and contribute with other people and shit but I don't think you care about that

Github pages is their free website hosting service that lets you host a static (read: no backend so no blogs or forums or anything, think oldschool geocities) webpage. If your site consists solely of html, css, javascript, etc, then you can just stick your website on there directly. If you find a template you like you can just stick it on there and fiddle with it.

You know, I read this thread title and my first thought was "why are the mods letting spam bots run amok without doing anything -- they're getting lazy!!"

Github is going way overboard, but if you want to code stuff, maybe something like wordpress or blogspot for the very basics. They mostly let you just slap down your post and publish; the HTML and CSS would come into play when you want to mess with the layout and so forth.

Lazarus has saved me from multiple heart attacks on account of losing stuff I've typed. Chances are you shouldn't need to use it regularly, but as these things usually tend to be, the one time you don't have it installed you'll find yourself wishing you did. Thankfully, it's been ages since I've actually needed it but it's still there just in case.

The Lazarus thing is cute and useful, less for BL and more for other websites where sometimes I have done the thing where backspace decides to be a back button for no reason. I still don't know what triggers that.
