What characteristics in Masters do you think align them with Servant classes?

This is probably all conjecture-based? I don't know of any canon material about it except that summoning Berserker is the result of a specific enhancement spell, right? Anyway, I just thought this would be a fun discussion to have. If it goes anywhere interesting, I might do a thing with the results of any consensus, but no guarantees.

I will list the Servant classes below. I am not as familiar with FGO as I could be, so if I miss any major ones or whatever, tell me and I'll fix the OP:

I'd say personality and catalyst work in conjunction in summoning. Unless the catalyst is awfully specific, the Servant they'll get is determined by compatibility.

Kiritsugu could get Assassin if he didn't use Avalon but some other catalyst, for example. Well, he is an Assassin already, only in FGO, that is.

Servant selection works like this:

Catalyst narrows the pool from all Heroic Spirits, and then remaining classes + compatibility with the Master.

For example, Kairi used a piece of the Round Table as his catalyst so that he would summon a Round Table knight. Most to all of the knights probably qualify for Saber, so it's not necessarily a quality of Kairi that gets him a Saber. If Saber was already taken, he'd probably get a Rider or a Lancer. And, it's pretty clear he was matched with Mordred because of his personal traits.

So it's better to think of the Master's traits not aligning with a specific class, but rather specific heroes, whose various aspects are represented by different classes.

That said, I don't know what specifically would give one the Caster or Lancer version of Cu Chulainn. Catalyst could do it, but assuming you had no catalyst and got Cu on pure affinity, which class would you get? Would it default to Lancer because that's more famous? Might the summoning region influence it?

Eh, Assassin's are just all business. This was a ritual turned slaughter fest after all. If you want to call moral bankruptcy, it's the magi that allow such a contest to exist in the first place in metropolitan areas.

Can we even call Gil a jobber when he does it to himself? EMIYA I can understand, but not Gil.

Riders I see as less exclusively "me first", since again, the people who participate in this kind of are for themselves despite the safety of the citizens around them, so you'd have to apply this to almost everyone. If you give them an exclusive, it would be that they exclusively have strong ties to their masters past just the contract.

Lancer may be 'second fiddles' to a point, but then it almost evens out with some of the cool scenes they get(Cu, Karna). If you look cool going out, then it's a win. Casters are the ones that don't get that.

The Casters being hikki are okay, but a few seem to not fit. Tamamo for instance.

Sabers being protags seems about right.

Bersies doomed to fail applies mostly to poor Herc really. But I apply the same thing as I do to Lancers, if you looked awesome going out, you get more "hell yeah"'s than looks of pity.
