Phase 002: It’s name is Gundam
To the lands of war, come back to life, GUNDAM!!
As the explosions in the factory district cleared up, people suddenly head more of the explosions and saw the G-Weapons in the area. As they saw the Mobile Suits, one of them said, “What? There’s more?!”
As the ten G-Weapons (counting the ones being held in the arms of the the Crystal and Aegis) managed to land, the Aegis, Crystal, and Hurricane managed to land with their cargo near the GINN piloted by Miguel, who stayed behind to ensure nothing bad happened to the remaining rookies, because, like it or not, he actually wanted to ensure their safety.
Turning his GINN’s Mono-Eye to the group with him, Miguel said, while suffering from the headache that came with being near anyone like Taikobo, “Athrun, Tai, Rusty!” then noticed something off and didn’t like it, “What’s with the extra suits?”
Over the radio, Rusty replied,
“Intel was off Miguel! They built THIRTEEN mobile suits as far as we can tell at this time!”
“WHAT?!” Miguel couldn’t believe it. Intel was off by
that much?!
Before Athrun could say something to make it less embarrassing, Taikobo added,
“The other machines were boarded by civvies, with one being supervised by an Earth Forces officer!”
As the Dragon, Strike, Deadfright, Adamantine, and Vanguard landed, each with a bit of a stumble though they stayed up right. It was clear they weren’t exactly ready, but one of the pilots, Ryu Hisanaga, had already begun work on modifying the OS for his machine. He had found, believe it or not, that the OS was in such a bad shape, finding that the individual systems had been done separately and not together! For whatever reason, he noted, the others hadn’t done the same yet, which caused them to have trouble moving.
When Kira, who was in the Strike, was looking out through one of the small vidscreens, he startled to spot that his friends were running down a street, and Mir had her dress in shambles, though Sai and Tolle were hardly better off. Knowing that this was not how he imagined his life to go either way, he leaned across the seat, to see what he could of the situation, though this made it hard for the Lieutenant to do anything in particular.
Miguel stared at the five hostile units, wondering about his course of action. Normally, he would be aggressive, not waiting and even testing the reactions of the Mobile Suits under combat conditions, ready or not, for MMI to poke around with and Intel to start guessing...
He opened fire on the Strike. Several rounds landed close as the MS stumbled to get away, which in turn caused it to try and scramble away like a drunken sailor on shore leave. Seeing that he needn’t worry too much, Miguel felt he could do some further testing, get a feel for possible motions or what not. Still he was going to be careful... the enemy could still salvage the data and there were five of them.
Suddenly, one of the units fired back at Miguel causing the ZAFT ace to dodge. It was only a short burst, but had he stayed still, the rounds would have punched through his GINN’s head and destroyed it. Though he strangely noted that the rounds had flown from behind one of the enemy mobile suits.
In her mobile suit, Hilde frowned, for the opponent had evaded her burst of Vulcan fire. That hadn’t been an uncommon problem in the past, though it wasn’t a common MS addition either. The thing that caught her attention was the sudden boost in reaction speed... this was no ordinary pilot, though she concluded he must have been the one that Duo previously fought before they realized the situation...
Now things were starting to get interesting.
Miguel growled as he put away the GINN’s assault rifle, securing it to its place on his GINN’s back, and drew his GINN sword while reporting his plans, “Okay!” he gazed out honestly wondering if he had a screw lose, “I’m going to destroy or capture these machines,” he heard the others gasp, “You guys make sure that you get yours out of here!”
And so... he charged the Strike first.
‘Intel BETTER
be thankful for the data I’m going to be risking my hide for!’ he mentally growled... Intel was bent over and the five possibly more mobile suits were the pooch screwing them over as he ate up ground to the Strike.
Athrun, who was still processing that he had seen Kira, was failing to accept that his friend was actually in said machine, as he sighed and thought to himself,
‘Kira... no, it can’t be, there’s no way he could have been there,’ After thinking these words, he set about to re-write the OS and to see what all the machine was capable of.
While Miguel was more than willing to test the abilities of the Strike to determine whether he should destroy or capture it, Kyou didn’t think so. She would not let anybody hurt her brother at all! The only flaw in her helping him was that she had to figure out how to pilot a Mobile Suit. That was when she spotted a very conveniently placed manual and she went to work experimenting on the different functions found inside the Mobile Suit she was in and just like Ryu and the ZAFT pilots... she found the OS was simple and almost literally a hack job... one she and her friends and brother had helped to create.
Rolling her eyes, she wondered what the bright idea behind this stupidity was when it came to such a complex machine... though she did find that the OS itself was fully complete, just not connected to any of the actual systems.
“Got Blue Cosmos infiltrator written all over it,” she muttered and unknown to her, a certain mad blond on Earth suddenly sneezed during his date with a rather nice young lady with violet eyes and dark brown hair.
However, before Kyou could do anything to figure out how to move her MS, let alone protect her brother, Miguel was already upon the Strike. He already had the GINN Sword in a position to swing down on the unprotected unit. The pilot, the Lieutenant, was unable to do anything much, other than have the Strike drunkenly jump out of the way of the GINN sword. With the sword missing the target, the GINN made it to where the Strike was beforehand, with the Strike landing a few meters away from the GINN and staggering like a drunk still.
Within the Strike, Kira was forced to land right in front of the Lieutenant’s bust after falling lose of his position. The woman let out a surprised cry and was very indignant as Kira tried to scramble back into place, only to fall lower and she blushed brightly as she yelled “GET OUT OF MY WAY!! YOU WANNA DIE?!”
“I’m sorry,” Kira apologized as he got up, his face partially red before he looked in the direction of the GINN, which caused him to look in horror and yell out in terror as he saw the GINN was now right on top of them!
Miguel brought his GINN upon the Strike at seemingly impossible speed for a stock model, but Miguel was an ace and goosing every little bit out of his GINN had become second nature to him. When he had joined the Le Creuset Team, their commander had the whole team go through upon full formation a series of work up training programs and to better know their machines and as such, the Le Creuset Team could honestly say they were one of the better elite units, if not
the elite unit of ZAFT. As such, when the suit was within a certain distance, he commanded the MS to jump, while bringing the GINN sword up and ready for a downward swing, the added momentum of speed and the jump would cleave cleanly through the Strike now.
The Lieutenant, gritting her teeth, pushed a button within the Strike that lit up the words “Phase Shift,” which turned on a color scheme of white arms and legs, blue upper torso, gold crest over its eyes, and red soles of the feet and lower torso. She then commanded the Strike to raise and cross its arms over its head in a standard blocking move common to humans for countless eons. The points on both arms where Miguel’s GINN Sword hit began to spark brightly and metal screeched through the air, surprising all present when it was shown that, instead of cutting through the armor, the GINN sword was actually being
blocked by the seemingly unarmored arms!
Inside the Strike, Kira looked on in surprise as the GINN’s sword was stopped cold in its swing by the greater strength of the Strike. The woman beside him let out a small battlecry as she forced the arms to push forward as she commanded the Strike to push forward, the MS obeying its pilot’s command.
Kira watched as the sword was pushed back and despite flaring its vernier, the GINN was being slowly pushed back and then he heard the Strike’s own vernier come to life, forcing the GINN back several meters before the arms pushed up and forced the GINN to push off and jump back to safety.
When Miguel finally pushed off of the Strike, and barely avoided a sloppy punch and a poorly aimed burst of CIWS fire, he flew backwards to avoid anything at close range, while yelling, “Dammit! What’s going on?! What’s up with that armor?!”
Athrun, finally getting a chance to answer, replied over the radio,
“They’re all equipped with a system known as Phase Shift Armor.”
When Miguel landed, Athrun continued,
“Once activated, it renders the GINN Sword and Rifle useless,” To prove his point, he turned on his Phase Shift Armor, which turned his color scheme into a burgundy color mostly, except for the crest, which has the standard gold among Mobile Suits like it.
At this point, missiles were heading towards the Aegis, which Rusty managed to intercept with his Igelstellungs mounted in the Hurricane. The body of the Hurricane looked like it could easily turn into a fighter jet, what with the wing like attachments on the knees and on the back, while its color scheme was black legs and arms, blue upper torso, extra shoulder parts that hovered a bit behind the shoulder, and soles of the feet, yellow hip armor, a silver crest and silver appendages that stick out in ways to signify its position as a transforming Fighter Jet further, and the rest of it, including the pieces attached to the back and sides of the Mobile Suit, were all white.
“Uh, Athrun, you got it mostly right,” Rusty said over the radio,
“My Mobile Suit is equipped with an armor called Luna Titanium, everything else with the project was given Phase Shift though they also received Luna Titanium armor, but not as thick and covered over by some improved titanium and steel mix.”
With the missiles destroyed, Rusty turned his attention over to the mobile launcher, an Orb National Defense Force M23 Sakura Light Missile Platform, the latest version of the ancient and venerable AN/TWQ-1 Avenger of the old United States of America Military, that was desperately trying to relocate to a safer area. The crew had realized too late that they were within range of the ZAFT pilots as such Rusty fired off the Igelstellungs into the fleeing target, ending the existence of the mobile launcher and its crew.
Turning the head of his GINN to face his team of rookies, Miguel said to them, “You got to get out of here
now. You can’t stick around this place forever!”
Athrun, stuck between a rock and a hard place, looked at the left vidscreen and saw an image of a younger Kira superimposed over the Strike for a few moment, before he turned his head back to reality and activated the Vernier Thrusters, heading off to space with the Enhance in the arms of the Aegis, Taikobo following shortly after with the Highliner in the Crystals arms.
Soon, the only other unit left among the ZAFT forces was Rusty’s Hurricane, which caused Miguel to blink twice before yelling over the channel, “RUSTY YOU IDIOT!! That was your queue to get
out of here!”
Rusty, who wasn’t exactly known for pulling off this sort of stunt, replied,
“I have a hunch Athrun isn’t willing to talk about his past all that well, considering what made him stop before getting to the unit you tagged for testing.”
Miguel actually came up short as he prepared to retort whatever Rusty was going to say to him... well everything, but that anyways. He couldn’t understand it very well, Athrun not following through on mission requirements? That was unheard of for the boy, even if he could be hesitant, but if what he knew about the battlefield was correct, that usually resulted in ones death. Then why...?
“Rusty, what made him stop?” Miguel kept his eye on the enemy suits, and noticed two were nearly ready to fight, “Be honest, what did you guys see in the factory?”
“I think it had to do with the civilian that is either a Natural, technician maybe, or someone that couldn’t pilot due to the Enforcer Officer inside the unit you tagged called the GAT-X-One-Zero-Five Strike,” Rusty replied, with the idea sounding like that could very well be a plausible answer.
Miguel, after thinking it over, thought that actually might be it. Still, he needed to ensure that the mission was completed in any event. Yet... he glanced at the control that would allow him to activate his radio on an open channel as well as the control switch for his PA system. He knew it would be uncharacteristic of him and against regulations to open a comm-signal with the Strike, especially during battle with said MS.
“Guess I’ll have to ask after capturing the Strike,” he looked up to Rusty who nodded, “but that still leaves the other MS units, any data so I can actually fight?”
Rusty nodded and began to provide what was in the Hurricane’s data.
It was official for Kira, someone in charge of life hated him, and had been going out of their way to proved it. He had fallen out of his spot again when something had slipped out of place behind him and beaned him in the back of the head. As such, he had fallen forward again, the item following suit, and for the third time in a single day, he had groped a member of the opposite sex and been slapped for it.
Before the Lieutenant could berate him, Kira had picked up the offender... a book... more importantly it was the Strike’s Operations Manual.
“That’s classified!” the Lieutenant protested when he began reading it.
“And so are the units and their OMs’ that ZAFT stole,” Kira countered knowing he was already way in over his head as he was
inside something that should be classified.
To say that Miguel was surprised was an understatement, but now he knew that the Strike wasn’t fully outfitted for combat and their attack on the factory had denied it a basic rifle and shield to fight and defend itself with. Still, the data made it clear that the Strike was nearly as powerful as some Custom machines and was nearly the rival in speed to ZAFT’s ZGMF-1017M GINN High Maneuver Type. He nodded to himself and decided to stick with the old Samurai method of keeping distance from his foes while using the sword as a protective circling measure when needed, he didn’t remember where he heard of the method or who made it, as he charged towards the Strike and kept his eyes peeled for the remaining units.
Fortunately enough, it seemed that someone had the wise idea about the situation and sent in back-up to deal with the remaining units, though from the looks of it, they weren’t with the Le Creuset Team, heck there were more of... them... than... the team should have!
“WHAT?!” Miguel yelled out, though mostly to himself, even though Rusty shared the comm. What Miguel was expecting was something like Commander Le Creuset sending in some help after Athrun and Tai got back -if there was anyone left
to send!- or come himself with word to retreat. Miguel had most definitely not been expecting back up in the form of some GINNs from a local unit and he couldn’t help, but grimace as he saw the GINNs were the previous issue Model C, a slight modified version that proved to be a death trap in the field. He didn’t think anyone would still have them and be deployed and he couldn’t help, but feel they were probably a pro-PLANT group that was sometimes mistaken as ZAFT soldiers, though that couldn’t be the case here as he saw the marks were in the right place for once.
At that moment a comm-screen opened up to him and a face showed itself to Miguel, which belonged to a man in the Red Coat uniform Miguel couldn’t help but feel that he shouldn’t cross with and shouldn’t be around. As Miguel was on the assault charge towards the Strike, he heard the man say to him,
“Green Coat Aiman,” the man spoke,
“We’re the Grethern Team and here to reinforce you and to either capture or destroy the remaining enemy mobile suits.”
“Copy that!” Miguel called out happily as he moved to attack the Strike as the Grethern Team landed to take on the other mobile suits.
“Red Coat McKenzie you are to withdraw at once and save that mobile suit!”
Miguel was glad to hear Rusty’s acknowledgement, but then something bugged him... How did they know it was Rusty who remained... unless they ran into Athrun and Tai as they left. He would worry later...
For now, he looked at the Strike and made for another charge against the mobile suit, this time peppering the mobile suit with automatic fire as he charged. The Strike managed to right itself and keep standing despite a hail of 76mm (or 3in) High Explosive rounds that were shredding the landscape around it. Miguel saw the Strike bring its head to bear on him and he cursed when he spotted the 75mm CIWS Vulcans mounted in its head!
As he closed, Miguel heard his rifle click empty and with that he jumped up just as the Strike opened fired, the shots wide as he came down, swinging the GINN’s Heavy Sword with the left hand, the Strike stopped firing as it dodged, Miguel ejecting the spent clip as he landed and hurriedly loading another magazine as he stored his rifle and pulled the sword free of the ‘earth’ it had embedded itself in.
“Time to go down Natural,” Miguel charged again, since he was so close, he forgone as flurry of covering fire as he ducked under the Strike’s barrage again and charged with both hands gripping the Heavy Sword.
Meanwhile, within the Strike, Kira had seen how the outbound shells had missed their target, and thought to himself,
‘The calibration’s off!”
Still, the woman was able to dodge the worse of the attack against them, but they both felt the Strike shake badly and Kira this time had managed to keep his position and his page in the OM that had beaned him earlier.
Then, noticing that the other stolen Mobile Suit was leaving, he hoped that nothing wrong would happen to his friends and sister while they faced off against the other ZAFT soldiers, who had a strange symbol on their GINNs left shoulders, the symbol being a Praying Mantis with a Claymore in its metaphorical hands.
Miguel, who noticed that the Strike was still moving awkwardly and seemingly drunkenly, said, “Heh, I guess it doesn’t matter
how good your armor is right about now,” and then swung the GINN sword down at it, seeing it dodge barely before he readied his sword again to swing horizontally this time, and he also managed to hit the Strike with it, forcing it to take a step backwards. He then had his GINN jump in the air and towards the Strike, thrusters active, before continuing what he was going to say, “IF YOU CAN BARELY MOVE!!”
As he managed to get the Strike to fall into a building, he yelled over his PA, “TRYING TO PILOT THAT MOBILE SUIT?! YOU’RE IN
WAY OVER YOUR HEAD, EARTHY! IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE, GIVE! IT! UP!!”
Forcing the Strike backwards with another swing, Miguel brought the sword to a position that would be best to skewer the Strike in the cockpit, and went to do the job, only for the Strike to suddenly crouch down and catching him off guard as the GINN Sword slid along the shoulder armor. Miguel cursed as he realized he was over extended and as the proverbial sitting duck in those precious few seconds he tried to back out of the failed attack, only extending the time he was vulnerable. The time in which the Strike then rammed its right shoulder into his GINN and forced it to fly back, crashing to the ground on its back with enough jarring force to temporarily daze the Magic Bullet of Dusk.
Inside the Strike, the Lieutenant asked Kira, who reached across her to hit the correct buttons and then manipulate the Strike to do that maneuver to knock the GINN down, “How did you...?”
Kira, not really paying much attention, said, “There’s still people all around here,” while adjusting the settings to see the OS of the Strike. “If you’re gonna drive something like this, you gotta make better use of it.”
After seeing the state of the OS, Kira said, “This is ridiculous, how can they expect to run a complex machine with this kind of OS?”
The Lieutenant, not sure of a correct answer, said, “I-i-it hasn’t reached the completion stage, it can’t be helped!”
Miguel, who was trying to get his GINN to stand upright, was thinking of how the Strike had suddenly pulled off that move. He shook his head, regretting it for a couple of moments, but it quickly cleared. He saw the Strike just standing before him now, as though it was a statue. He nodded the trough he had dug as his MS had slid across the ground.
He growled... he’d been thrown back about 80 meters.
He then checked his suit, MS, and weapons to make sure everything was good. His flight suit was undamaged and his mobile suit’s weapons were fine, he had managed to hold onto the sword during his brief flight and sliding. That was also good and he saw he still had his rifle and it was in working order.
The he checked the armor as he started to run through plans, but he stopped and was thinking more right now about how to get out of this situation without losing his GINN in the process. The damage gauge had him looking in disbelief. His chest area had taken a whopping 21 percent damage from that shoulder ram and that was just the chest armor.
Knowing that he’d have to run or fight to the bitter end if he didn’t come up with something fast, he got the GINN to stand upright and said through grit teeth, “You bastard!”
Miguel did not run from when the advantage was clearly ZAFT’s.
Miguel began to reset the sections that had been hit and reroute where it was necessary to get his MS back into the fight. He then smirked as he found he could now move again. As he began to move towards the Strike this time intending to tear the Strike to pieces with his sword.
“No offense,” Miguel spoke and then yelled, “BUT YOU PISSED ME OFF!”
And that was when he was sprayed with accurate 75mm fire.
Kira, who wasn’t simply one to sit idly by either and do nothing, yelled, “Please, move aside!” When the Lieutenant was proving unwilling to move out of the seat, Kira added as emphasis, “HURRY!” With that, the Lieutenant moved out of the seat and Kira took the seat for himself, while bringing down the keyboard to make the necessary adjustments to the OS.
While he began making the adjustments, the Lieutenant thought to herself,
‘This kid...’
As the enemy GINN began making its way over to the Strike, Kira looked out the moniter and saw that it was going to be in range, so he raised the head upright and fired off the Igelstellungs to ward it off momentarily.
As the rounds of the Igelstellungs bounced off of the GINN, Miguel let out a startled “What?!” before he lost momentum and his speed charge turned into a mockery of itself. He none the less swung the GINN sword at the Strike, which dodged by stepping back and then cocking its fist back and throwing a straight punch into the head of Miguel’s GINN just above the mono eye sensor. Letting out a startled cry at that, he was hurtled into a building behind himself, where he was forced to get back up again.
Kira, who was readjusting the OS of the Strike right at that time, thought moments after he had already finished the task he was working on,
‘Take the calibrations and reset the zero point moment and CPG. Connect control module to quasi cortex molecular ion pump. Rebuild Neuro-linkage network. Update meta-motor cortex parameters. Restart feet forward control. Transfer functions. Correct for Corielas deviation. Online!’
Miguel, who was unaware of who was modifying the OS, wondered aloud, “What’s with this guy? Now it’s moving better!”
When he managed to get his GINN sword put away, he had this nagging thought in his mind that told him,
‘It has to be the tech! He must
be a Coordinator, or at least someone aware of the inner workings, if he can modify the OS of a Mobile Suit that fast!’
Deciding to follow through on his test, to see how good this tech could be and how well the Strike would now handle. With that in mind, he brought back out his assault rifle and fired on the Strike in semi automatic mode. Seeing his shots hit the torso, he figured that it would take a while before the armor was removed from play, so he decided to continue firing at the Strike.
Soon, the Strike activated its thrusters and went into the air, with Miguel following suit with a burst of full auto. He went into the air and fired on the unit with his gun, but missing each time.
Kira, needing to know the weapons of the Mobile Suit he was piloting, said, “Weapons,” before he typed away to see what weapons there were. When he found the weapons themselves, he saw the Igelstellung Vulcan Guns and...
“Armor Schneider?” Kira asked incredulously, before he yelled out, “That’s all there is?!”
“The Strike was going to be outfitted with its heavy assault weapons, but we were attacked before we could mobilize!” the lieutenant stated quickly, even as Kira turned to the manual to figure things out, flipping from page to page back and forth, forth and back until he had at least read it a half dozen times.
Activating the holsters for the Armor Schneiders in the hip armor of the Strike, Kira grabbed hold of each one in the hands of the Strike, and was careful to avoid getting hit again by the GINN assault rifle.
Miguel was getting tired of this, as he yelled out, “DAMN PIECE OF EARTH TRASH!” before realizing,
‘He’s closing fast!! Who is this guy!?’
Kira piloted the Strike in close to Miguel and yelled, “No, don’t do it here!” as his opponent was working on trying to hit him with his assault rifle, which failed to hit him due to the Strike’s superior speed and turning radius.
When Kira stopped the sprint the Strike was doing, he turned it to face the GINN, activated the thrusters, and closed the distance between him and the GINN. As he was in a fury over the destruction of his home colony, he yelled out, “STOP IT!!”
Using the thrusters to evade the incoming fire of bullets with a quick duck, Kira had managed to use the Armor Schneider to stab the GINN in the joints between the arms and the torso. Kira had been following the Lieutenant’s instructions to disable the entire suit as she told him where to hit to do just that, she had been hoping to avoid staining his hands with blood in the pursuit of this move. With the disabling of the suit, the assault rifle forced the right arm of the GINN to drop down from the weight, but the hand retained its hold over the rifle.
Miguel was starting to get worried for many reasons, including the fact that the Strike managed to render his unit useless. When he took stock of the situation, it turned out to be grim, as he noted, “Hydro not responding, multi drive system offline.”
What he decided to do next, in what he knew to be a vain attempt to destroy the Strike, was blow the GINN to smithereens. After undoing the safety harness, he pulled up on the self-destruct lever and saw the count-down start. With that, he blew the hatch open and got out, making sure to turn on his flight pack before hand.
The Lieutenant, who noticed what was going on, let out a gasp and yelled at Kira, “This doesn’t look good! Step away from the GINN!!”
“Huh?” replied Kira intelligently, before the GINN blew up right in front of the Strike. While the Strike was unharmed, and Kira was still in the pilot seat, the Lieutenant was unable to do much but fly backwards for some reason and get a concussion on her end.
Miguel, before he left for the
Vesalius, decided to take stock of the situation. So far, it seemed that the suit that had the least difficulty was the one that also had a heat blade extended from its right arm, which was effectively cutting through the GINN it was facing. The opposing GINN, however, didn’t know the definition of giving up, as it would seem. What Miguel saw was nothing more than a massacre, a one-sided slaughter by the pilot of the G-Weapon, one who... was giving him a headache?
Realizing that it was definitely
not a coincidence, he pegged the unknown Mobile Suit as a target for later, because he needed to ensure that he lived when facing off against the suit. When he thought back on the subject, he realized that normally he felt Commander Le Creuset as a source of a headache, and a flash of white light normally appeared with the headaches.
He then saw a move that he would most definitely recognize anywhere!
“Ryu!?” he yelled out in surprise as he saw the GINN get gutted.
After passing by the other Mobile Suits, he saw one with a pair of gun barrels barely holding off the only CGUE in the group. It seemed that the Commander of Grethern Team was proving itself to be better than anything else in the area, it would appear, though Miguel had a feeling that the gun barrels weren’t being used for a reason. He felt another headache come from the pilot of that particular unit, so it was either someone that had an enhanced version of the COS or someone that was trying to make due with a different OS, because both possibilities were including the source of the headache.
As he made it to the exit, he decided to hurry it up and ensure survival came, because he could feel another headache... wait a minute, what was it with him and headaches recently, anyway?! Turning to the source of the headache, he gasped as he remembered that those Commander Le Creuset had labeled as a breed of human called Newtypes when he talked about those who operated the Moebius Zero, as they had this sense within them that could help them detect others of their kind, be they Coordinator or Natural. Realizing that the only Zero left on the line was Mu La Flagas’, and wondering if he was a Newtype as well, he radioed in to give the team the info they needed to live against the Hawk of Endymion, only to curse as he remembered that he couldn’t contact them until they picked him up.
“Right, set the laser transmitter and get someone to pick me up first,” he muttered, the headaches were affecting his thinking clearly when he noticed a GINN Recon recording the fighting and then something dark blue and white suddenly appeared quickly jabbing a knife into the suit which promptly exploded, the unknown vanishing behind the flame of the GINN Recon, “Better go to the dock and transmit,” it would be clearer and quicker too.
Within the secret harbor, an unconscious Ensign Natarle Badgiruel was floating about in the gravity-less chamber when she hit the ceiling and the cadaver of a young G-Pilot had forced her further awake upon impact. Wearily, she opened her blurry eyes to see what she could only describe as one of the most sickening moments of her life. She saw the cadaver and the blood that had once flowed out of his mouth, blood that should have been in his body.
Gasping in horror, she floated down to the floor, when partway through she put her hand to her mouth to ensure that she didn’t vomit on the deceased. She then remembered, “The ship! Where’s the
Archangel?!” Upon touching down onto the floor, she pushed off of the cadaver, leaving it to rot in space, while she moved over to the location of the
Archangel-class
Archangel, the Mobile Assault Carrier prototype that had the equipment of the whole selection of Mobile Weapons for the ship.
While out on the battlefield, a GINN belonging to Olor Koudenburg fired upon the
Marseille III-class
OES Crescent Star, causing the ship to move towards the space colony itself. Seeing the job complete, Olor moved onto the next target, which was taking out the Moebius Zero before the other Mobile Suits. However, the job wouldn’t be easy, because of two reasons: The Zero was piloted by someone who knew what they were doing, and the Mobile Suits were not going to give him that chance. Well, he had to make due with what he had in this case.
Within the ship, one of the bridge crew desperately reported to Captain Brandon Riley, “We’ve lost control!” just as they were heading right into the wall of the space colony itself. With a startled scream from the captain, the ship ran into the wall, buckled up from the impact, and blew up, just as Lieutenant Mu La Flaga was flying on by to duel with Olor himself.
Within the Zero, Mu was getting really irritated, but mainly because he saw his comrades in the battle fall to the ZAFT GINNs by non-threatening blows. As he was getting closer to fighting the last of the units, he let out a frustrated grunt before saying, “Can’t we do something about this difference in battle strength?!”
After saying that, he and Olor traded shots of the guns, while he had deployed his gun barrels to eliminate the remaining GINNs should they become much of a problem. During the current battle, he fired a burst of rounds from his gun barrels at Olors’ GINN to keep him at bay, one set of rounds destroying the assault rifle and forcing some more distance between Olor and Mu. During this time, Olor commanded the GINN to draw its GINN Sword and charge forward, but Mus’ piloting was superb, enough so that Olor lost his arm in the skirmish. Deciding right then and there not to mess with someone better than him, Olor moved out of the way to go back to the
Vesalius, where he could get repairs immediately.
But Mu quickly found several more GINNs besieging him and with a
Laurasia-class to support them no less!
“Crap!” he shouted as he fired his linear gun and got a two for one sale, “Idiots shouldn’t have bunched UP!!” he roared as he dove into the GINNs, surprising them.
The GINNs would have the advantage up close, but for a few precious seconds he would hold the advantage, then he saw the symbol and cursed. He ran into them before. They were good and they showed that they could recover, he figured the two he did get were rookies.
“One of those teams,” he muttered, “I really,
really hate this!”
A CGUE had him suddenly, then a blast gutted the MS from long range. Three more rapid fire bursts came out from a corner of the colony, one scoring a hit on the
Laurasia’s bridge and drilling all the way to the powerplant of the ship. The explosion engulfed the remaining GINNs that hadn’t been sniped.
“Peregrine One, this is Seer,” a voice called to Mu over the radio,
“Sorry for being late, but the COS went buggy on me for a spell and then I had to clear a tunnel from atop me.”
On board the
Vesalius, one of the bridge operators reported out to Captain Ades and Commander Le Creuset as well as the people needed, “Olor’s damaged! Emergency landing! Fire crew to B-Deck!!”
“Friendly forces on the field,” another operator reported, “Two have been destroyed by the Zero already!”
“Team unidentified, but is broadcasting friendly codes!” another reported from his post.
“WHAT THE HELL!?!” cried the second operator as he reported, “Heat source alongside the colony, friendly forces have been annihilated!!”
Fredrick Ades, not one to understand such terms happening to his men and allies, questioned, “In a simple battle such as this, Olor’s taken damage and friendlies have been wiped out?” Really, who could blame him? Unknown MS units were launched instead of the standard Moebius unit, but one of those had been taken care of, though it was reported that the pilot had ejected to safety. To top it off friendlies had flooded the field suddenly, giving them an advantage and the enemy mothership had been sunk, however, all the enemy units except two were downed and then a third appeared and more than halved the number of friendlies.
Rau, who wasn’t sure what was going on himself, said mostly to himself, “It would appear that we have an unforeseen problem...
‘or rather several’ though I highly doubt it is of the usual variety.”
While ignoring most of what was going on around him, he thought to himself,
‘This is not my day to see if a Newtype is even around in the battlefield. I wonder what happened to give me this trouble, anyway?’ Thinking back, he chuckled.
‘OF COURSE!’ he thought,
‘Taikobo thought he could switch his Newtype suppressors with my medicine,’ a mental laugh,
‘Now the question is, how am I going to deal with him when he returns?’ the thought would have to wait though.
“Laser beacon detected from Miguel Aiman,” said Mathew Sims, the final GINN pilot left on the battlefield from their team, who broke Rau from his thoughts with those words. Miguel never sent a laser beacon unless it was absolutely necessary, which it never was before now, so why would he do something like this?
As he pondered over this thought, he heard the final part of the message, which was,
“It’s an emergency!” That brought him to the reason why the laser beacon was even mentioned, and why Miguel would do something like this in the first place.
Turning his attention to the details, he was about to say something when he heard from the communications officer, “Confirmation of the Grethern Team!” he looked back, “They’re here in the area as well, Commander!”
That alone set his blood boiling, because they were one of the Grethick Battalion and his comm officer knew it like he did. Both knew who the Grethick Battalion really were, a part of the CLA or Coordinator Liberation Army. If they were on the field, then something was seriously wrong... there also had to be a CLA base in the area and from last intel reports, rather accurate ones, he knew that the local Eurasian commander would not notice them until they were actually raping the women at his base for their ‘ideals’ and ‘plans.’
He noted Ades looked greener than he should and for good reason... he, like his comm officer, had seen the CLA’s activities up close and personally before. Both men like him had vowed to destroy them, ironically, Rau had noticed he hadn’t needed his pills as often since then. He mentally chuckled and decided to await what the future holds for him.
A look shared between the three and a nod only they knew, but confused all the others...
Disguising his thoughts, Rau said to the bridge crew and Ades, “If there is at least one weapon that’s capable of taking out Miguel’s Mobile Suit,” with that, he got out of his chair and headed over to the hangar, while saying at the end, “It’s all the more reason why we simply can’t neglect the last items.”
Still, with a nod as he left, Ades knew not to go rushing to the Grethern Team’s aid, even as another of their
Laurasia-class ships and a newer class he’d only heard about were destroyed... no wait!
The newer ship took a hit that had vented the entire ship, killing all aboard her... they just might be able to salvage her.
Meanwhile, Ensign Badgiruel floated to in front of the ship to check on who was even in the area, when she called out, “Is anybody here? Anyone?”
Seeing the hat once worn by the captain, she grabbed onto it and found that tears were flowing into her eyes and threatening to break loose. Lowering her head and steeling herself, she said, “No, dammit.” Raising her head again, she called out once again, “Are there any survivors out there?!”
For a short while, there was silence, but then Natarle heard someone trying to break the door down near where she was at. When she turned around to face the noise, she saw the door get broken down, and a flashlight shone in her eyes. When the light left her eyes, which she had guarded to protect from blinding, she heard a man say, “Ensign Badgiruel, glad to see you’re okay.”
Back at the battlefield, the retreat flares lit up and the last of the GINN pilots retreated under orders, which caused Mu to wonder what was going on. “They’re retreating? But there’s still something...” when he said that, he felt something strange, the second time in a row, but this time it was faint yet getting stronger, like someone getting off some type of suppressor that blocked Spartial Awareness. The feel of the presence was familiar, but he didn’t know who... “What’s this?”
Turning to face the colony, in hopes that he was wrong, he zoomed off to encounter a foe he hoped it wasn’t all the while, Seer kept sniping at anyone who got even close to the colony before he was clearly relocating.
After he boarded and launched in his CGUE, Rau arrived in the area where he started feeling Mu, when he noticed that Mu was heading towards him. That was when he turned towards Mu’s direction and said to himself, “Tell me, do you feel my presence? Can you sense it in the same way that I sense yours? An unfortunate fate, wouldn’t you say, Mu La Flaga?”
Finishing off the question, he slammed the throttle to the firewall and boosted to where he could get an advantage over Mu in battle, though, knowing the Hawk of Endymion as well as he did, such advantages never worked out so well.
Over in a park near the duel between the Strike versus Miguel’s temporary GINN, Ryu Hisanaga began to recollect on what he had experienced in that battle, because he wasn’t up against rookies, that was for certain. He knew that Kira went up against a awakening Newtype. The guy had skills, too great for a stock GINN and Ryu figured it was a temporary replacement. Still, that guy was no pushover in the machine he was piloting and that was what made Kira and the Enforcer’s life difficult at the moment.
He then noticed another enemy come at him, a C-Variant GINN HM. The pilot did a quick dash with a sudden side jump and a ZGMF-1017C GINN appeared with a spear in its hands and the point aimed at the cockpit of his machine.
Manipulating the controls, the Ryu showed that he had already adapted to his machine: the GAT-X000 Dragon.
The Dragon side stepped and brought its left arm up to clothesline the GINN, flipping the mobile suit heavily onto its face after it literally flipped after contact with the Dragon’s arm. As the GINN pilot was trying to get his senses back and right his MS, Ryu had already stepped back avoiding a number of thrusts by the the GINN HM’s bayonet equipped SMG. After one more thrust that over extended the GINN HM’s form, Ryu flipped the switch and swung the right arm to bury the Dragon’s beam saber through the HM’s chest and out its back.
The other GINNs stopped and looked to see the Dragon pull its saber free of the dead GINN and then let it fall on its side, showing the cockpit had been cored and the pilot killed outright. The Dragon swept one foot back and brought its integrated weapons systems and made a ‘come’ gesture with the left hand. The GINNs hesitated for a moment, before a couple paired off and the remaining two joined their recovered ally for a three on one bout with the Dragon and Ryu.
Ryu noted how the GINNs moved and they were all C-Variant stock GINNs and GINN HMs... He could tell which team they were a part of, the Grethern Team, which was a team he was offered to join before the Battle of Junius 7, which he thankfully declined. He knew that the CLA was wanting his head on a silver platter, but only because of his involvement in the Enforcers during the war. He probably didn’t have much of a chance to get out of the current predicament with the CLA and their lapdogs the detached Grethern Team, but now he was stuck between a rock and a hard place regarding the new Mobile Suits the Enforcers were trying to get out of Heliopolis. Of course, he retired from the Enforcers, but not with their knowledge of him leaving. He had help from his late-lover’s brother, of course, but he’d rather not talk about it or think about it if he could.
‘Anyway,’ he thought,
‘back to the battle that must be fought first,’ a fight which was rather, at the moment, one-sided in his opinion...
Kyou was having a hard time getting her new Mobile Suit to work as she found that while she could program the thing... she couldn’t get it to do what she wanted!
Barely, drunkenly dodging another attack, Kyou didn’t know what else to do, but hope that the GINN fell on its face. Yet, she could tell the pilot was no push over and had not only training, but skill to back it up. She dodged another attack and felt the mobile suit trip and fall with her passenger falling out of her place and hitting something on the control panel.
“Prepare to die you dated relic!” the GINN pilot shouted as he stabbed downward with his Heavy Sword, only to be met with unyielding resistance that shattered the GINN’s weapon as color flourished across the Vanguard.
The sword had hit right on target, but the accident inside the cockpit had turned the Phase Shift Armor on and protected the two inside. The sword continued to grind against the armor plate that was covered in the powerful PSA system. The pilot’s attempt was clearly thwarted, but he continued to press down, even as the sword groaned in protest and then failed, snapping in two and sending the GINN tumbling over the downed Vanguard where it crashed heavily to the ground.
Kyou looked at her passenger who had only a gaping disbelief on her face. When she had fallen out of her perch, her hand had landed on the PSA activation control and the Vanguard now sported its protective armor. It was just one of those things that fell under the heading of ‘I can’t believe that happened’ and Kyou and Cagalli were both sharing the look now that they faced one another.
Hearing the GINN pilot curse over his PA System and begin to force his suit back up and onto its feet, Kyou went back to reading the Operations Manual. Before she was even half way through, Cagalli snagged the OM from her hands and quickly flipped through to where the instructions on the weapons were. Luckily, Cagalli had qualified for her nation’s fighter wings and knew where to start looking for the weapon instructions.
“There!” she pointed to a panel and started reading off the instructions, skipping certain bits that were pointless and redundant to someone not in the military and even then, they called it a waste of ink and forests.
The GINN had gotten back to its feet, only to turn and see that the Vanguard was also up and had lifted its shield up as well. The GINN seemed to just stare, obviousily curious about the action. It looked like the Vanguard might try a charge with the shield leading or was trying to use the shield as a impromptu melee blade.
The answer came soon enough as two rocket grenades launched from the shield and slammed into the GINN, exploding on contact with the chest and right hip. The GINN’s remains were blown back and the pilot instantly killed by the attack. It was clear the GINN hadn’t been expecting that or it would have not stupidly stood still.
Emiri was moving her mobile suit through sheer force of will and her martial training. It was a highly unusual design, but with the fact it didn’t have a standard cockpit and she had to wear some terribly tight and revealing flight suit just to get the thing to move. She wondered who in their right mind would even try to make this kind of mobile suit!
She barely dodged a sword slash and countered with a poor jab that still connected and crushed in the GINN’s armor plate. Of course the pilot had hit his vernier and jumped away, having a speed advantage with his GINN HM. They had been going back and forth like that since the GINNs broke up and as she looked over to the others, she saw the Dragon standing over one GINN that was missing its head and the whole front torso resembled a scrap yard, while she noted that the Vanguard was simply standing defensively, likely not ready for more combat and with a passenger to boot, but she was unable to check Deadfright as she ducked under a slash and jabbed up again with a heavy smash hit like a pro boxer would and crush the GINN’s cockpit in finally.
She saw the GINN HM fall over to the side, no sympathy from Emiri as she knew who the Grethern Team was and had sworn vengeance against one of its fellow units.
Katsuhiro cursed the GINN he was facing off against, he simply wasn’t ready and the other guy was very much ready and rumbling while he couldn’t.
His mobile suit was alright, but it wasn’t ready for combat, especially with the OS he had. He had the misfortune to get the one with the crappiest of the OS installments. The OS itself was fine actually and actually connected to its functions, making this the most complete of the the G-Weapon Operating Systems.
Yet that wasn’t the issue...
The mobile suit itself was finished and it was armed and he even had the operations manual in his lap.
The problem was, that the mobile suit wouldn’t function! The OS was running, but it was proving to be having problem translating his commands. He had run the systems time and time again, but repeatedly found everything in the green. That meant that something else he would have to get out and inspect the mobile suit from top to bottom to find out what’s wrong with it.
Barely dodging another attack, which was more like avoiding a heavy direct blow with a soft glancing blow, he cursed again and decided to take one of Tolle’s ideas to heart...
“WHEN IN DOUBT JUST HIT SOMETHING!”
And he did, he started hitting whatever was stopping him, until a new screen popped up and to his shock, the mobile suit was simply in lock down and with a hiccup in its command transfer program and a data feedback from-
The GINN landed a hard hit with its sword and sent the Deadfright flying onto its back and accidentally giving the computer core in the G-Weapon a sheer fit... Deadfright was dead in the water and out of the fight now.
“DAMMIT!” Katsu shouted as he slammed his fists down onto the controls and the mobile suit responded with a burst of fire from its CIWS that killed the offending GINN in a brilliant explosion.
Slapping his face, Katsu wondered how Kira’s luck of the day was transferred to him.
After the battles were fought, Kira, Kyou and their friends managed to establish communications and decided to head to a nearby park to dismount out of their Mobile Suits and make plans. It didn’t take long for their three friends on foot to arrive, though it looked like they raided a clothes store in the process. Once they had all gather, they began to dismount one at a time in the hopes of not being caught easily, though with Emiri it was also a matter of getting her normal clothes on inside the Adamantine, mainly because of the fact that she didn’t want anyone other than Katsuhiro to look at her in that flight suit...
Hold on! Did she just think that?!
‘Where did that
come from?’ she thought to herself, not sure of the details of what her brain was telling her at the present time. Shaking her head, she cleared her thoughts on the subject. It wouldn’t do her any good to get her head full of idiocies like that at this point in time.
She shook her head to clear it, it was also quite clear she was hitting that point where she would have to talk to him about it.
That was when she noticed Kira calling for help and trying to move an injured woman from the mobile suit he was in...
“That can’t be good,” she muttered, seeing the shoulder wound.
When the lieutenant woke up, it was to a cheerful enough Miriallia, who, despite the circumstances, was more than willing enough to take care of the injured woman. Miriallia noticed this, and said to her, “Well, I see you’re finally awake,” turning her head over to where Kira was at, she called him over by saying, “Hey, Kira!”
When the undercover 8th Fleet Lieutenant Senior Grade tried to move her right arm, she cringed in pain as she felt a fiery flash through her shoulder. Then it dawned on her as she remembered she had been shot, a deep graze, but a serious enough one to affect her. She didn’t like that her dominant arm was pretty much useless, but she was thankful that if she had to fight, that she was a South Paw. She then ideally wonder if this Kira was the same boy from before.
Kira, moving over to where the lieutenant was laying down and recovering, noted the pain she was in and said to her, “You’re better off just lying still for now,” after a bit of a pause, he said, “I do owe you an apology. I guess I kinda got carried away in there.”
Mir had left to give them a bit of privacy and to get some water and asked the lieutenant, “You thirsty? Care for some water?”
The undercover lieutenant, thankful for the water offer, turned her head to Miriallia and said, “Thank you.”
With Kira’s help, the lieutenant got into an upright position and began drinking the water. While she was drinking, they heard Tolle call out, “This so-called Gundam is AWESOME! Can it move, though, is the question?”
Sai, who was getting worried for Tolle, yelled up to him, “Tolle! Stop playing around up there!”
Getting a good enough feel for what a Gundam was like, Tolle stepped out of the cockpit, and asked nobody in particular, “So does anyone think that the gray color is due to the main battery running out of power?”
When the undercover lieutenant heard all of this, she turned and was shocked to find a boy who was actually sitting at the controls and messing with them.
Quickly, she got up, grabbing her sidearm and ignoring the pain in her shoulder as she aimed left handed and yelled, “Keep away from that machine!”
Sai and Tolle, confused by the the sudden yell, turned to face her, only for a gunshot to ping off the armor next to the cockpit hatch, causing Tolle to duck in cover for until he thought it was safe to come out of the cover. Seeing that this was something that they were definitely
not supposed to be messing with, Sai and Tolle moved away from the Strike Gundam and over towards where Kira and Miriallia were at, with Tolle getting down from the cockpit of the Strike.
The undercover lieutenant, determined to keep the Strike a secret, held the civilians at gunpoint as she moved towards the boys with her gun still in her left hand. Kira got up and ran in front of her and tried calmly to calm her down and get her to put the weapon away.
“Hey! What do you think you’re doing?!” he said in a bit of panic despite trying to remain calm, “Please, just stop already! There’s something that you should know. They helped carry you out while you were still unconscious”, only to find the weapon suddenly pointed into his face.
“I am grateful for that,” the undercover lieutenant said with a glare, “but! You kids have been exposed to a top military secret. It’s not something that civilians should be handling carelessly.”
Tolle, who, with Sai, had walked up to the group, said to himself, “Give me a break, I mean you had Kira driving it only a moment ago.”
The lieutenant, having heard this, moved her gun to aim at the two and said, “Both of you, over here.” Seeing to it that they all were in a line, she ordered, “Your names. One at a time.”
“My name is Sai Argyle.”
“M-my name’s Tolle Koenig.”
“I’m Miriallia Haw.”
As the three had said their names, the lieutenant focused her gun on Kira, who, with a steeled gaze now that he was threatened, added, “Kira Yamato.”
The lieutenant then said, not wavering in the least, “And my name is Murrue Ramius, an Earth Alliance Forces officer,” she continued after giving her name and her affliation, “I’m sorry to tell you, but you have been exposed to high level military secrets and therefore I must detain you until I can speak with my superiors on the matter.”
“You’ve got to be-”
-BANG!-
As Tolle had been speaking, someone had wandered over to the group and saw the group being held at gunpoint and reacted with their recovered pistol. The person had pulled the trigger without really thinking or even aiming, but the results were surprising as Lieuteant Ramius’ pistol went flying from her hand and onto the ground nearby. For a minute, the world stood still...
“Oww~” the new arrival said in pain and everyone turned to the owner of the voice, to see a young man, likely a teenager still, with dark hair, a hoodie and slacks, sitting on the ground rubbing his posterior from where he had landed thanks to the kick of the large magnum pistol he had in his hand.
“KUZZEY BUSKIRK?!” the group yelled out in surprise, unaware of what he was doing with the pistol in the first place.
“Well well well,” another voice spoke, before Murrue suddenly felt the barrel of a pistol in the small of her back, “Now that was some shooting for someone who had never even
held a gun before, forget
firing it!”
Murrue chanced a look over her good shoulder and saw it was a familiar face, one she knew would be less than pleased for her being on Heliopolis. She sighed audibly, knowing she was in for one long rant-lecture combo since the guy seemed not to do the latter without a rant. She just hoped one of his lovers was nearby... save her the need to find a large bottle of pain killers for the headache she would have later.
Then the pistol was removed from her back as Duo Maxwell spoke up, “Be thankful I’ve found out who the leak was prior to running into you,” he snorted and she turned to him.
“Who leaked?” she asked, hoping it wasn’t one of her friends.
“Blue Cosmos with a brilliant scheme to bring war to Orb,” he said with a high pitched tone that was sarcastic, but then he smirked as his tone became lighter, “but unfortunately for them, the facts are currently now drifting about on the Net.”
“I guess both Orb and the Military should be thankful for the whole thing in some morbid way,” Murrue shrugged and regretted it.
Mir was at her side in an instant, helping her back to the benches, while Tolle and Sai pulled Kuzzey back to his feet and Kira held the magnum between his thumb and forefinger by its grip. It was a rather surprising show all around as Duo yawned and stretched, having put his pistol away and Kuzzey showing up and not hitting someone with gunfire, though Murrue didn’t like the rather large dent now in her sidearm. Still, a sense of normalcy pervaded the group, something the youngsters grabbed onto with great zeal.
“So Mir?” Duo had a raised eyebrow as he looked the girl over, “What’s with the new outfit?”
Miriallia was dressed in a blue and white outfit similar to her orange and white dress, but it had an opening over her belly that stopped just short of her bustline, showing off the under side and then remained open until her waist where the sides were open to show she was wearing a pair of blue shorts underneath and ran to her mid thigh while the front and back had flaps that ran to her ankles and she was also wearing a pair of white boots that Duo was certain was worn for the ‘Wet Season’ on Heliopolis.
“My clothes were destroyed by the gunfire,” she rubbed her shoulder, “I was...” she hesitated...
“Lucky,” Duo finished with a pat on her arm, “I know that feeling all too well.”
Kuzzey noticed that Sai and Tolle were also dressed, Sai with a Hawaiian shirt and shorts and a pair of brown slip on shoes, Duo had noted an appearance with orange rather than red like Howard. Tolle was dressed in a similar manner to Trowa, but he could see how the white collar stood out just below his neck and with a top like him as well. This had the effect of making him look like Trowa and he had a half brother who dressed with a mix of their clothes.
Duo and Kuzzey also noticed how Kira looked like someone had tried to use him for target practice. Shrapnel had bitten at his clothes as well as secondary debris and there were the signs of bullets having cut at him. Though the bullets were fewer, a lot fewer than shrapnel and secondary debris tears in his clothes, but one of the sleeves looked almost blasted off and his clothes also showed signs of the overpressure from a blast.
‘Whoops!’ Duo thought ideally,
‘Didn’t mean to really scuff him up that bad.’
“Kira?” Kuzzey suddenly asked, not really knowing what to say as Kira turned his attention to him.
It had been months since he had last spoken to Kira and Kyou or the others for that matter. He had been really frightened by Coordinators, having been almost killed by a mass murder, the infamous Ash Grey, as a small child. He has been held by a fear of Coordinators since, but he has tried to work past it. Now he wasn’t sure where to start, given the attackers on the colony they called home...
So he blurted out something he shouldn’t have said in hindsight.
“Did you really cop a feel and kiss Princess Cagalli Yula Athha?”
After a few moments of silence, Kuzzey looked away embarrassed as Kira turned so red Duo was certain he would make the Heavy Arms look white. Of course that would be an assessment for later as Tolle and Sai immediately began looking back and forth while Mir looked redder than a tomato and Murrue was simply lost. Duo also wondered why he would say that, but given Kuzzey’s history, it shouldn’t be a surprise that he would trip and say something like that.
“I’m gonna say the cat’s outta the bag on that one,” Duo said, keeping a straight face, if barely as Tolle was immediately all over Kira about it.
“I’m gonna stay out of it for now,” Murrue said, the feeling she should be talking to Kira about such things wanting to explode forth from her days teaching at a public school.
During all of this, Ryu, Kyou, Emiri, Cagalli, Nagato, and Katsu turned up having parked their mobile suits where Hilde had directed them earlier. With them was Une as Hilde was trying to get a line on where the remaining Enforcer Mobile Suits were. Une raised an eyebrow at what was happening being strongly reminded of Tolle’s antics in class.
“Now what’s happening?” Cagalli muttered and immediately Tolle was in her face asking about what had happened until Mir dragged him back by the scruff of his neck.
“Sorry!” she bowed her head and forced Tolle to do the same despite protests of pain, “Kuzzey found out that you and Kira had an intimate moment and nervously blurted out a question about it!”
Cagalli chose to spin on her heel go walking off for the moment and Une was certain that the Heavy Arms would look white compared to Cagalli’s face right now.
“Kuzzey’s here?” Kyou asked in surprise and turned to see him talking with Kira. What really surprised her, however, was that Kira was holding a gun in between his index finger and thumb.
“Kira what are you doing with a gun?” Kyou blinked as Kira looked down, wondering what to do with the thing.
“You missed it!” Tolle shouted in excitement, “The Earth Forces lieutenant here had us at gunpoint when Kuzzey showed up and shot her pistol right out of her hand!”
“WHAT!?” Emiri yelled in disbelief while Kuzzey blushed.
“I didn’t mean to actually do that,” Kuzzey admitted a bit shyly, “I just wanted to help the others and I pulled the trigger without thinking and hit the other gun,” Kuzzey was always a bit shy and modest, more so than Kira to the point of being insecure.
“And landed on his butt from the report of firing a heavy magnum that’s better known as the hand cannon-class,” Duo said with his famous or infamous grin that always meant something either happened or was about to and in a funny way at the very least.
“Duo!” Kuzzey was redder than a tomato at that.
“Ah don’t sweat it man!” Duo laughed it off, then appeared to become curious, “Anyways, how didja come across that pistol anyways?
Mu patrolled the now quiet space around Heliopolis, keeping an eye out for anymore trouble. He had spotted the flare signal for ZAFT to fallback and regroup. He had then felt a very familiar sensation and knew that Rau Le Crueset was lurking about now. Though oddly it felt fainter than it normally did, but he shrugged it off and kept tight alert.
He passed by the remains of Gail’s Messer, the whole suit was a case of swiss cheese now. Still, in hands of such blooded pilots as Luke and Gail, both only being a step up from green rooks, he could see why the Messer would help with future Mobile Suit Research and Development. He could only hope they could do something about the fact that mobile suits in general had very short legs when it came to space deployment.
‘Probably manufacture some next generation fighter and/or mobile armor to offset that weakness,” he thought and then juked and jinked immediately pulling off an immediate Pugechev’s Cobra and with a burst of fire, nailing a shoulder guard clean off Rau’s CGUE much to both pilots’ surprise.
“Dammit Taikobo!” Rau cursed, “Either you added a mix or need stronger pills than I thought,” and watching Mu zip and turn, “That or Mu has surprisingly gotten much better than he normally is,” sensing, faintly, he spun and filled Luke’s Messer with a barrage of fire, but as a testament to its heavily armored state, Rau had to put dozens of rounds from both range weapons into the entire suit before Luke punched out and the Messer exploded, a chunk smashing into Gail’s Messer and reducing that suit to debris as well.
‘There goes any bonus data from this battle,’ Rau thought with a shrug as he and Mu started going at it again, though Rau being careful as there was still one unit left besides Mu La Flaga.
Elsewhere along Heliopolis’ side
“Yes, I know,” the pilot of the GAT-X205 Seer spoke into his intercom, only to get a series of beeps back that only he could understand, “Don’t worry, that mystery group from the Sweepers have already spread the word,” another series of beeps, “I know we created falsified information and I don’t doubt they know its fake, but we’re both working to the same goal here and enough was true to make it legit,” a series of beeps that would tell anyone that they were not pleased, “Sometimes playing dirty is the only way, especially with Logos and worse the Library.”
The secret organization known simply to him and others as the Library, who they were was a mystery in and off itself, but their mission was known on the other hand, at least to a degree... conquest of the entire human race. It was known they were a group made up of what were defined as Carbon Clones, unlike the run of the mill clones that still ran around the Solar System, these clones actually were fully developed and complete and were stable to boot... or so it seemed.
As far as the Seer’s pilot, Lieutenant Senior Grade Max Wyatt, was concerned... they were all unstable, mentally speaking that is.
Another series of beeps and he confirmed his mission, “Though I have a feeling things are about to get hectic,” he stated at the end as he pulled the trigger and slammed an energy bolt right into a CLA Recon GINN that had been poking around the fringes of the battle, “And fer all that’s Just and Right, find out where those CLA loons have that base you missed around here,” a short series of beeps that anyone would have been able to translate as ‘Shut Up!’ finished off the conversation.
Elsewhere inside the many passages of Heliopolis...
"It's official," the leader of a team of mobile suits spoke, "We're lost..." he sighed at the end.
"I agree," The other male with him felt his eye twitch, "We did say to take that turn how many back?"
"Oh come on!" snapped one of the women in the group, "I thought you said you knew the way out!"
"We did," the leader said dryly, "Then some woman's intuition insisted on a path that we've since been trapped on."
"Should we even bother?" the other male said equally dry.
"Oh come on!" the woman spoke up again, "This is a war, not a pinic!"
"We know that," both men deadpanned as they showed where a tank had dropped down several levels from where it had been destroyed above.
"Too much debris," noting something off to her left, the second female indicated the following path, "I have unusual readings," she stated, simply tired of the bickering, the confines were dangerously tight and every pilot was feeling it.
"A factory sir," the second male responded, "A mobile suit factory."
"Good," the leader said, "That means Sahaku."
"Agreed sir," the fifth member and third female said, "Let's go and find out what's up down there."
With that the five mobile suits began a short walk down the hallway and just in time as where they had been suddenly exploded with emergency hatches sealing off immediately.
"This is one ship I can't tell immediately if the rats are jumping overboard or not," the fifth member said and one had to understand why it was harrowing for them...
ZAFT had used too much explosives in a sensitive area and nothing here was reinforced against battle damage either.
The continuing duel between the White Knight and the Hawk of Endymion saw bullets flying in a heated exchange as tempers reached a heated stage. Despite the superiority of the CGUE, the Zero was no push over in battle and as such it was a stalemate between the two aces. A grim agenda for both of the pilots, while Mu was hard-pressed to get another hit on Rau, Rau found hitting the Hawk a harder proposition even with the effect of Taikobito’s medication wearing off. While Rau was recovering from the medicine that Taikobo used, which was good for him, Mu was simply the faster of the two and that damnable All Range Attack would only need one hit to end the battle.
Jinking and utilizing his superior AMBAC capacity, Rau managed to avoid another series of shots, though the Hawk was likely to be running low on rounds by now, the White Knight of ZAFT was not about to push his luck. He dodged and returned the favor before watching the Hawk dodge again and with a growl he came to a conclusion that annoyed him to no end.
Rau yelled out for his own benefit,“You always seem to get in my way, Mu La Flaga!” that helped to calm him a little, “Though I’d imagine that you’d probably say the same thing about me!”
With a final, parting burst of rounds towards Mu, Rau le Creuset turned his CGUE towards the entrance to the colony, and without a second thought, he flew to find out what all was causing trouble for his team and get the Hawk into a place where he would be at a serious disadvantage.
Mu, cursing his luck, yelled out, “Gah! He’s gone into Heliopolis!” With that, after retrieving his Zero’s gunbarrels, he took off after his rival and nemesis knowing damn well it was a trap, but a challenge as well and pilots never backed down from a challenge.
Within the
Archangel-class
AFS Archangel, the man from earlier, Chief Petty Officer Arnold Neumann, said to Ensign Badgiruel, “The only survivors are the few of us who were aboard at the time of the explosion,” with a pause thrown in to say that there’s something wrong, “but, most of them are factory workers.”
After he said this, Ensign Badgiruel asked him, “Current status? What of the ZAFT vessels?”
“I’ve no idea,” Neumann replied, “We’ve been busy enough as it is verifying what’s happened around here.”
As Neumann was saying this, Badgiruel moved to the front of the ship and turned on the power. As the power turned on throughout the whole ship, the damage state turned on to tell her what the damage was to the whole place. When she saw the overall damage, she said, “This
Archangel is quite the ship. It would take a lot more than this to sink it.”
Neumann, remembering something, spoke up, “However, there’s a mountain of debris! It’s blocking off the harbor’s exit! We’re completely trapped in here!”
Badgiruel, looking at the radio configuration, pressed the “on” button and the display button, revealing that the airwaves were jammed. Stating what wasn’t obvious to her subordinate, she said, “So the airwaves are still being jammed. And yet they... then this was only a diversion? That means ZAFT’s true target is Morgenroete!”
Neumann, after having it sink in, gasped and his eyes widened. He just thought that their target was the ship itself, but apparently that wasn’t the case, as it was noted.
“Makes sense,” Badgiruel said, before asking, “What’s happening out there? Where are the G-Weapons?” Losing a bit of hope, she depressingly said, “This doesn’t tell me anything at all.”
Just then, over the radio frequency, a voice came through in a jammed manner,
“X105...rike here...rth Forces, please resp...”
“Can we get the position of that?” Badgiruel asked and Neumann shook his head.
“We’re too deep in the colony ma’am,” and he frowned as there was no doubt it was the GAT-X105 Strike calling them, “On top of that, I don’t think it has full power, plus the jamming, its not like the Seer ma’am, the Strike isn’t meant for this kind of communications work.”
“I really wish we could have had that AWACS MS now,” Badgiruel muttered, but that had been cut because of the budget they had.
“X105 Strike to...Forc...ease respond...” and the voice then cut out and with a sigh they moved onto different topics.
After the failed attempt to contact the Earth Forces, Sai and Katsu went off to get the Number 5 trailer, which, according to both Murrue and Duo, was able to help with the communications and power supply... though how Duo found out was beyond Murrue. As soon as they found it, Sai noticed something next to it, another trailer that was connected to the Number 5 trailer.
“Hey, Katsu,” Sai said, bringing the mentioned boy over to where Sai was, “What do you think is in this trailer?”
As soon as Katsu got to where Sai was, he spoke up, “I dunno, possibly another Striker Pack?”
As if on cue, the trailer holding next to the Number 5 opened up, revealing it to be the Number 6 trailer, and in it was indeed another Striker Pack.
Gaping in astonishment, Sai was unable to speak, while Katsu slapped himself for
really getting Kira’s luck of the day.
After they figured out how to close the Number 6 trailer, Sai and Katsu started to return with the two trailers in tow, though both were wondering when the Earth Forces would leave them alone and let them live their lives in peace. As soon as the truck made it to the highway from where it was at originally, Sai asked Katsu, “So, Katsu, where do you hail from exactly? I mean, I don’t remember you from the homeland, at any rate.”
With that question, the truck came to a screeching halt, though it was a good thing that it was in the middle of an empty street... and for a good reason the road was empty... exploded 76mm High Explosive Rounds dotted the street, along with a trailer and what was left of its escort.
“Damn~...” Katsu muttered, he saw that even the infantry soldiers were slaughtered by the GINN Assault Rifle fire, “This wasn’t even a brawl...”
Sai only nodded, but noted while the trailer was damaged and the cab was nothing more than charred remains, the trailer itself had escaped unhurt. He also noted that the dead were not Enforcers, but rather private soldiers, soldiers of the Sahaku house no less. He was curious as to why they were here and what they were carrying.
“Should we check out the trailer?” Katsu asked, looking a bit confused and worried, he saw the difference himself as well.
“Might as well,” Sai muttered and the two got out and carefully tipped toed around the unexploded ordnance and fuel cells that littered the area.
Katsu looked up over the trailer and nodded that it could be towed by their trailer. He sighed at all the senseless death that had occurred to today, when he noticed that the trailer was a bit too long for most industrial work, yet also too short for something like a mobile suit. Now his curiosity was peaked and he saw that an Armor Piercing round had opened up the trailer.
He walked over while Sai had decided on the grim task of recovering dog tags from the dead soldiers. Careful about the ordnance, he recovered the dog tags rather quickly and some identification from civilians who had been killed or from the looks of it, a couple had bleed to death alone and in agony. He shuddered and then suddenly jumped when Katsu suddenly yelled out.
Needless to say, the earlier course of discussion was forgotten when Sai saw what he saw when he went to look himself.
With the lost mobile suits...
"You have to be kidding me!" the leader had just told his group exactly where they were... less than 1000 yards from where they had started.
"On the bright side," the leader indicated what they had found, "We found some goodies and a chance to draw on more power and recharge our own."
"That doesn't help!" the second female all, but yelled at him, understandable, they had literally gone in circles.
"Actually it does," the leader responded with a smile, "
Archangel is just through that wall and less than 20 minutes drifting down to meet her."
"Which wall?" the other male in the group asked.
"One that's less than two-hundred meters or so from here right down that hall," he indicated with his mobile suit, "These generators are tied into the same power grid that charges the
Archangel."
The others looked at him with blank looks.
"It ain't my fault they put emergency bulkhead hatches between us and the channel we need to get to," he said defensively, "Besides, the ship can free us since we're be in communications range even with all the jamming and metal that's in the way."
"I have to agree," the first woman sighed.
"That's three to two and this isn't a democracy either," the third woman groaned herself.
"Four to one," the other male said and the last female huffed and then asked...
"So who's carrying the extra weight?" they all looked at her as she looked at them and put it together, "Not on your life!"
"Payback is a bitch," the leader responded, she glared at him and his mobile suit and the hole that was shaped like the leader's mobile suit from she had putted him through the wall.
Murrue raised an eyebrow at the battle damaged unknown trailer that Sai and Katsu had returned with. The thing looked like a GINN had tried to use for target practice and a building had fallen on top of it... she was right on the first account, the GINN pilot either had a messed up FCS, battle damage, or was simply a poor shot, what blows did hit were the lucky ones, but on the other account, it had crashed into a building and not particularly far in either.
“Any idea what you found?” she asked and the duo opened it up for them to see an incomplete mobile suit that looked strikingly like the Strike, but it was missing parts.
“Strike Astray,” Sai shrugged at her look, “I know, real original,” everyone chuckled, “It was a test bed design and for some reason, Orb isn’t adopting Striker Technology,” Murrue blinked, that was odd, “So the unit was to be scrapped, but was placed in mothballs instead.”
“And the missing pieces?” she asked, curious where those were.
“In a shuttle in the port,” Katsu answered, “No idea why they were moving them so separately though.”
“Um...” Kuzzey spoke up with a raised hand, “They were planning on selling it to a neutral nation or something, it lacks Phase Shift and the battery was an earlier model that was always tricky to work with as well as a few other minor issues...” they all looked at him, “I was forced to help with some of the problems and was helping to pack up the body when the attack occurred, but the other parts are actually just down the street in front of the
L for Love Street Bakery.”
“You’re kidding?!” Cagalli yelled, surprised that the Sahaku’s would go so far or that the missing pieces were so close.
“They said something about something to my folks and well I guess that’s what they had over them,” he shrugged, “They were also involved as well,” he shrugged again, “Not that it will do us any good,” he shook his head, “They’ve pretty much stripped the thing of armor and computers and other important parts so they could dumb it down for sale.”
“That sounds like the Seirans, not the Sahakus,” Nagoto stated, frowning, he never did like the Seiran leadership, he had a couple of Seiran ‘friends’ who fed him information, of course they wanted to control Orb themselves and expand its territory so they had some real land to the country’s name, whatever they actually meant, though they were no where near the Sahakus, they played it carefully not with a gamble like this.
“Yeah...” Kuzzey looked uncomfortable, “They were the one’s actually in charge with moving the unit in secret where they still did testing on it before deciding to sell it themselves.”
“But it’s been stripped for parts hasn’t it?” Kira suddenly asked, joining the conversation.
“Not that,” he shrugged, “I don’t know where those went, but they had parts to dumb the Strike Astray down stored at some place called the Graveyard,” the name immediately caught Duo and Murrue’s attention, “That’s all I know and I don’t think I want to know more.”
“Don’t worry Kuzzey,” Une said soothingly, “It’s not an actual Graveyard, but is a space station in the debris belt that the Sweepers use for a headquarters now,” she chuckled as she turned to the others with a mischievous smile that made Duo proud, “The missing parts and the dumb down parts are already in our hands and we were wondering what to do with them.”
“So that was that shipment we captured!” Duo said with a long laugh of incredibility, “I was wondering about those things and the idea to set up a factory in our shop, too bad we took over!”
“Is that how you produce your own mobile suits?” Miriallia asked.
“Of course,” Middie silently chuckled, “We can also overhaul the
Archangel if she isn’t ready for deployment.”
“Two brand new, modified Messers were supposed to be delivered to you,” Murrue smiled, “With several additional suits,” then she frowned, “But I don’t know now if they’re intact or not.”
“We’ll look and if not, ZAFT can pay for it,” Duo was laughing hard at Madelyn Une’s look.
At any rate, they managed to find a place to store the Strike Astray for a while, while Sai and Katsu retrieved the Striker Packs that they found in the Number 5 and 6 trailers. After a while of driving, the two finally got to the park again, where they got out of the truck and ran over to Murrue.
Sai, despite being a Natural, was capable of out-running Katsu to where Murrue was sitting, and he said to her, “Alright, sorry about that, ma’am. At any rate, we have both the Number 5 and 6 Trailers... we weren’t sure what to do with the 6, but the 5’s the one you asked for, right?”
Murrue, honestly grateful for what happened, though confused about the extra trailer, replied, “Yes, that’s right, thanks for the help.”
Before Sai could ask anything out of Murrue, Katsu ran up and practically yelled, “I have Kira’s luck, I know it, but
why?! I didn’t piss off anybody today, I swear!”
With that declaration from Katsu, everyone, even Kira, looked at him with a raised eyebrow and asked in unison, “Huh?”
Katsu, looking around and needing to check what that was about, asked, “What? I just happen to have had Kira’s luck of the day transferred over to me for whatever reason! First off, a Mobile Suit doesn’t respond to my commands, only for it to destroy a GINN, then my big fat mouth revealed another Striker Pack, and
finally Sai beat me in the race over to Lieutenant Murrue Ramius!”
Sai, for all of his calm under normal situations, was at a loss for words. He didn’t know that Katsu was trying to make this a race, otherwise he would’ve done something different for the unlucky guy, like figure out why Katsu was in such foul shape at the moment.
Shaking his head, Sai cleared his thoughts and asked Murrue, “So, what’s next? What are we supposed to do for you now, huh?”
Murrue, holding her right arm with her left hand below the bullet wound, which was thankfully dressed up, replied with a request, “Could you please get the Striker Pack?” Turning to face Kira, she requested of him, “Kira, once that’s done, try contacting them one more time, okay?”
“Sure,” was Kira’s reply before he walked over to the Strike, though he was curious about something... turning to Katsu and Sai, he asked before attempting to take another step, “Uh, guys, which Striker Pack is in the Number Six trailer?”
Sai answered, “I think it was a set of gun barrels, though I don’t know for certain.” Turning to Katsu, he asked him, “Do you think that’s correct?”
“I saw that they were Gunbarrels, though I don’t know the specifics, so...” Katsu replied, feeling uneasy with himself for even thinking about it at the moment.
Still, they had a job to do, so they decided to deal with it one step at a time.
With Mu La Flaga and Rau le Creuset...
Rau and Mu were going at it again... this time they hoped to settle the score and fight through the shaft to see to the status of the G-Weapons, though Mu wanted them around to end the war for the Earth Forces victory. Rau, however, had his attention focused elsewhere.
Rau was looking around while he was trying to fight Mu, mainly because of certain traps that had to be here, including that debris that looked like someone shredded an MS team...
“Wait... WHAT?!”
Noticing that some of it was heading his way, he moved the CGUE out of the way just in time, though he noted that it belonged to the Grethern Team for whatever reason... and that the part was from an older version of a CGUE. Looking around even further, he noted that each body part of the MS Team was cut clean through with some kind of thermal energy technology, though this was sharper than the norm. He honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be the Sweepers behind the destruction of a portion of the Grethern Team, given how the day had been turning out thus far.
Making sure to avoid the death that was promised to those that weren’t careful in this sort of battlefield, Rau turned the corner in his CGUE and found that the way ahead was much clearer. Given that he noticed Mu on his tail, he jinked and jerked out of the way of from the bullets that came out of the linear cannon from the Zero, while Mu cursed his luck for having a fight in this location, as he yelled out, “Why in this place?!”
As the fight dragged on, Rau’s CGUE was able to go behind a section of the shaft that prevented line of sight from Mu’s Zero, which made targeting impossible for the last active member of the Zero Corp. Mu, knowing that there was a trap laid for him somewhere, grunted at the prospect of being trapped by Rau.
However, Mu didn’t realize what was going to happen to three of his Gunbarrels rather quickly, as Rau said more to himself, “Mu, I’d actually be pleased if you vanished right about NOW!!” As he said that, his CGUE moved from behind the blockage and fired on Mu’s Zero right at the top Gunbarrel. The resulting explosion had affected Mu’s bottom and right Gunbarrels as well, causing Mu to drop the three damaged Gunbarrels before they finally exploded, leaving him with only the left one remaining.
With Ensign Badgiruel and CPO Neumann...
Within the
AFS Archangel, Chief Petty Officer Arnold Neumann was trying to talk some sense into Ensign Badgiruel, who had ordered a particular thing to go about. “Launch the ship?! But that’s impossible with the number of people we have!”
Ensign Badgiruel, getting fed up with the lack of information, retorted, “The time you’re using to argue could be better spent on
making it possible!” Leaning forward, she yelled, “Morgenroete could still be under attack for all we know!” With the opening hiss of the door, she continued, “Are you saying that we should remain cooped up in here and ignore what’s happening elsewhere?!”
As she finished that tirade, another of the Archangel’s Non-Commissioned Officers, Jackie Tonomura, stated from behind her, “I’ve rounded them up for you.”
“To your stations people! Just carry out the computer’s instructions!” she barked out in order for the orders to be carried out.
“Right!” “Ma’am!” were the two responses from the other two non-commissioned officers.
“Those ZAFT Vessels are still out there somewhere,” Neumann stated, in hopes of getting through to Badgiruel, “We’re in no position to engage them!”
“I’m aware of that!” came Badgiruel’s retort, before she gave another order to be carried out, “As the ship comes online, be ready to fire assault cannons!” Seeing hesitation in Neumann, she questioned, “You
can do that, Chief, can’t you?”
Neumann, despite knowing that they were at a disadvantage, turned his chair to let him get in, and then sat down and got into position to finish his duties for what he hoped wasn’t an engagement. He had no desire to die in the middle of battle with no way for support to reach the area, but it was better than dying a coward’s death.
Ensign Badgiruel then began issuing more orders that would help determine the fate of the ship, “Alright, commence launch sequence! Due to the urgent nature we’ll emit C-30 to L-21 from the process! Main power online!”
As the screen came online for Neumann, he noted that different functions were actually very stable for the damage that the ship had taken, and reported, “Output increase stable. 450 seconds to required rating!”
“That’s too long...” Ensign Badgiruel mused out loud, before asking Jackie, “What’s the status of conduits to Heliopolis?”
Jackie, in a bit of a rush to figure out the truth of the situation, looked over his station and noticed the status, “They’re undamaged!”
“Set us up to draw power through them! Get the conduits online! Relay power to accumulator!” Ensign Badgiruel ordered to ensure that things were ready for when they ultimately launched.
Jackie called out from his station, “Connection confirmed! Flow stable, 20 seconds to required rating.”
Another NCO, Dolida Lolaha Chandra II, called from his station behind Ensign Badgiruel, “Life support systems... normal. CIC online.”
Arnold Neumann added from his station, “Weapon Systems online. FCS, contact! Magnetic field chamber and pellet dispenser functioning and stable.”
Chandra added more from his station, “Maintaining external impact damper at maximum output.”
Neumann finished the checklist by saying, “Linking main power! Engine, stable! All
Archangel Systems online! Preparations for launch complete!”
Ensign Badgiruel made the final orders for the launch prep, “Seal all air-tight bulkheads. All hands be prepared for sudden impacts and possible damage to the ship.” As a final hope, she advised for the NCOs, “Advance with caution.” With a big push, she ordered, “Launch
Archangel!
With that, the engines roared to life, moving the ship forward. Debris impacted the ship barely as it moved forward, while the twin ‘legs’ of the ship showed that they were holding twin Positron Assault Cannons for blasting apart anything from the walls of the harbor to destroying enemy warships of any class. It should be noted that they hadn’t tested the functionality of the Positron Assault Cannons yet, but this was going to be a field test, so they had every right to open up the Assault Cannons for this particular occasion.
Back to the dueling aces...
Mu shot his gunbarrel’s main guns at Rau’s CGUE, with Rau managing to dodge the final gunbarrel better than he had over the course of the duel with the medicine trying to wear off earlier, so you could see how the stalemate was broken from earlier. Given that there was a bit of a stalemate to be made for Mu and Rau, they needed to find out who would break it, given circumstances were forcing them to need to end the battle rather quickly.
As soon as Rau got close enough to the offending gunbarrel, he did a drop-kick maneuver to destroy the wire-attached device, causing it to bend at the place kicked before Rau moved the CGUE away from the soon-to-explode gunbarrel. As soon as he was out of range of the explosion, the gunbarrel exploded, causing the wire it was attached to to go flying away from the wreckage.
Mu was starting to get annoyed, as the battle was starting to take it’s toll on the veteran, who was not really wanting to use the linear cannon for all the work in this battle. Finding no choice in the matter, however, he fired at Rau with the linear cannon, hoping to hit for once with it.
Circling around, Mu and Rau traded shots, with neither one hitting the other all that much.
As Kira was piloting the Strike to crouch down into a sitting position, the trailer opened up behind him to reveal that Sai and Katsu had prepared the Launcher Striker from the Number 5 trailer to be used, which was indeed something that wouldn’t be safe to use in a closed environment like the inside of a colony that could collapse at any time… why they chose that one was beyond Kira.
Given the delicate situation, Kira decided to check to see where the dang battery was supposed to be for the Striker Pack, so he crawled out of the cockpit and into the open part of the hatch so he could see Murrue Ramius. When he saw her, he called out, “The power pack, which one is that?”
Murrue was about to answer when Duo climbed up to the hatch and poked Kira in the forehead so that he went back into the cockpit. Before Kira could protest, Duo explained, “Kira, for a genius you sure asked a dumb question. The whole unit is integrated together.”
Kira, feeling embarrassed, blushed a light shade of pink from the fact that his stupidity was called out on. After a little bit, he got back to working the Launcher Striker to fit into the Strike itself, because he needed to help out his friends to get them out.
Mu and Rau were still continuing their duel to determine the fate of the G-Weapons left behind. With a sharp turn for a Mobile Armor, Mu had his Zero dodge the bullets that Rau was firing in an attempt to finish off the Ace Pilot, though it did destroy a section of the shaft that was in the center of the entire area where Mu dodged into.
After making another sharp turn, Mu fired his linear cannon at Rau, though it missed by a good enough margin to eventually cause a hole in the shaft...
With the Strike, Miriallia heard the evacuation order continue on, so she noted to Sai and Kuzzey, “The evacuation orders are still in effect, I guess.”
Sai, worried for his family, wondered allowed, “I wonder if my father and the others made it to the shelters...”
Kuzzey, sighing from how annoying this was becoming and from the fact that he was conscripted to assist in the project of contacting the Earth Forces, said, “I wanna hurry up with this and go home.”
And then there was an explosion that came from the shaft up above them...
Five minutes before the explosion...
Duo and Ryu walked over to their Mobile Suits, while they discussed a few different things, including what had happened to turn them into soldiers. Needless to say... the topic was rather interesting at the moment.
Ryu, unsure if he was hearing what Duo was saying right, but a little surprised by what was being said...
“So you basically just threw open the doors to anyone to join the Sweepers and within a year,” Ryu shook his head, “you guys are rivaling the Junk Guild and pissing ZAFT off each step of the way simply because they like the debris around Earth as it acts as an impromptu barrier for their defense.”
“Pretty much,” Duo spoke and Ryu wondered about his squeaky like tone, “Though we did advertise in the right way, drew in a lot of the more minor Guild members who wanted to do more and those who simply want to clean space up.”
“Yeah...” Ryu shook his head again, “but you guys even have criminals working for you correct?”
“Nothing too serious mind you and actually we got ourselves a number of folks who fled Blue Cosmos,” Duo shrugged, “Yeah some are serious and realize it and don’t know what else to do,” Duo looked Ryu right in the eye and Ryu felt as though several people were boring into him all at once, “Now we make sure we don’t get the more serious ones, the guys who like the bloodshed, the power trip, the whatever,” Duo stated with a flat tone that brooked no arguement, “We keep ourselves as clean as possible, but yeah we got some crooks, some are gunrunners arming the Martians, others ran the same guns now pointed at us to the PLANTS, but abandoned it and came to us, we got murderers, cutthroats, pirates, we got them all, but the ones in the Sweepers are serious about a stable and normal life and others are simply naive kids that they have to watch out for, heck we even have our own security department, that’s how big we are and how serious some things can get between the goodie two shoes and the hard cases with a rap that’s longer than both arms on a cop.”
“Sorry,” Ryu replied, he knew he was out of line, Duo ran a tight ship, valuing a strict moral code of conduct, but he welcomed all into the Sweepers as long as they do nothing to harm the Sweepers and break any serious laws.
Duo, with a tired sigh, said rather sadly, “Yeah...” he had gone off a little hard on the guy, “I guess its just how I grew up, I was an orphan and that’s pretty much how I got my name, from my group’s leader, he was called Solo and I was his right hand man,” Duo chuckled here, “I got the family name from the Maxwell Church, the colony’s gone now, but the Maxwell Church was the orphanage I stayed at when that epidemic was running about,” he sighed again, “Some bastard torched it years ago, along with all the folks in it, I happened to be out that night.”
Ryu winced, “Sorry to hear that man, real sorry.”
“Don’t worry, it’s somewhat behind me now,” Duo looked off into the distanced, “Though I wonder what happened to the murderer of the Maxwell Church? I hope he’s dying in a ditch somewhere abandoned.”
Meanwhile, said murderer was busy customizing his CGUE when suddenly he sneezed, causing his team to look at him in shock, due to the fact that he never sneezed unless someone was talking about him behind his back.
Back with Duo and Ryu, they had reached a point in the conversation where they were sharing tips on how to be better pilots. Just as they were about to get to individual fighting styles, they heard an explosion come from the shaft above them, which caused them to lift their heads to see what was going on. What they saw was strange for Duo, but shocking for Ryu.
From the explosion out came Rau le Creuset’s CGUE and Mu’s Zero, with the CGUE’s Mono-eye showing Rau the Strike, bent down and about to mount the Launcher Striker. Musing to himself, he said, “So... that must be it.”
Mu, in fear of what had happened to the other units, said within his Zero, “The final unit?!”
Rau, turning the CGUE over to the Strike’s location, rushed over to fight the Strike with Mu on his tail. Hurrying down to get close to it, he had to pass by it because Mu was gaining on him, with Miriallia, Sai and Kuzzey forced to duck for cover, which caused Miriallia to scream in terror.
Murrue, holding her wounded arm while running to where the Strike was, yelled out, “Mount the Equipment before it’s too late!”
With Rau and Mu, they continued trading shots at each other, with none of their shots getting through. They both needed to know who would have possession of the ‘final’ unit from the G-Weapon project, and this wasn’t a picnic, either.
As the two aces fought over the possession of the Strike, Kira was typing away on the keyboard, trying to determine how to best insert the Launcher Striker. He knew that it was imperative to put it into the correct spot, but he didn’t have much of a clue where it was supposed to go at the moment.
Mu was pushing the Zero to its’ speed limits as he hoped to get to the Strike in time, though Rau didn’t think so, as his CGUE drew its Heavy Sword and prepared to slice something in two... and that something was indeed the Zero.
Sensing the threat from above, Mu turned the Zero’s nose upward and got it to block the way from Rau trying to kill him, though he didn’t know that he fell for yet another trap that Rau had ready to spring. When Rau came close enough, he swung the CGUE’s sword at the linear cannon the Zero possessed and chopped it off diagonally. Mu, in shock, let out a startled “What?!”
Rau, seeing that his rival was now unable to interfere, pushed his CGUE over to the Strike and yelled over the PA, “I’LL TAKE YOU DOWN NOW WHILE I HAVE THE CHANCE!!”
Within the Strike, Kira let out a scream of pure terror before the Launcher Striker positioned itself onto the Strike. In the cockpit seat, Kira noted the main weapon of the Launcher Striker to be the Agni Hyper Impulse Beam Cannon, as he said to himself, “Beam Weapon?” As soon as he asked that, he looked back up from the monitor and gasped at the sight in front of him.
Rau’s CGUE opened fire on the Strike, with Kira turning on the Phase Shift Armor to prevent the Strike from taking damage.
As the Strike was subjected to explosive rounds, the
Archangel was speeding towards the end of the harbor, ready to break loose. Within the ship itself, Ensign Badgiruel ordered the NCOs around her, “As the ship enters Maximum Combat Speed, prepare to fire Assault Cannons.”
As soon as the ship entered the appropriate speed, the Positron Assault Cannons charged up and fired upon the wall of the harbor that they were facing, causing a massive explosion inside a hilly part of the interior of the colony.
Rau Le Creuset found himself getting shaken up by the sudden explosion that ripped through the area. He shook his head and looked to see what had happened. When he did, he found himself seeing the
Archangel pull out of the explosion and could only reverse thrust as the CIWS came online, spitting fire in his immediate direction as let out a startled “What?!”
He saw the
Archangel fully appear from the smoke, like some kind of herald or something, but he saw the lack of damage, enough explosives had been used to destroy
several capital ships and he could only worriedly say, “Not the new warship... The team failed to destroy it!”
Mu La Flaga, who was limping away could only look in surprise, his voice betrayed his disbelief at the sight of the new warship and in the colony no less, “A warship? Within the Colony?”
Murrue, after having gathered Tolle, Sai, Miriallia and Kuzzey, pointed with her good arm at the ship and yelled, “Look, it’s the
Archangel!”
Suddenly, Rau noticed something he didn’t wish to see, let alone be in! It was a sudden crossfire heading his way, and for good reason. He heard of the tales of how Miguel had survived a surprise attack by a demonic Mobile Suit that looked awfully like the G-Weapons now that he thought of it, but he didn’t know the tales to be true! Now that he’d seen it, however... well, he had to get out of the way of the scythe it wielded. Otherwise, the resulting pain would be more along the lines of being cauterized along the cockpit and fried from the inside.
However, before he could even contemplate how to possibly beat ‘Maximilian Duros’, he felt a flash of white appear before his eyes and a headache as another MS came into view, and he had to fight to survive an onslaught from a Mobile Suit that was quite capable of doing something completely unexpected. He didn’t expect a Newtype to arrive of all people, but there was something that was bugging him about this particular Newtype, yet he didn’t know what it was...
As the blows were traded, with the second MS drawing its Beam Saber and clashing against the Heavy Sword of the CGUE, Rau couldn’t help shake the feeling that he knew the pilot of the enemy MS. He was still contemplating when he noticed that the enemy MS was trying to gut him with the Beam Saber, which told him then and there who he was messing with... another one of his rivals from the Bloody Valentine War, one who mysteriously vanished from the battlefield after the Cyclops incident of the Grimaldi Front.
After dodging the Beam Saber and the enemy Mobile Suit, Rau turned on the open speakers and yelled out, “Well, it seems that fate has us meeting again, isn’t that right, Ryu Hisanaga?!”
A/N: Well, this was one of the biggest chapters that I’ve written so far in my writing career, and for good reason. I have so many ideas for where to take this, but most of them are being modified by my co-author and my betas who look over this when they have a chance to see if this gets up to par. Now, before most other things can be mentioned, I must say that I have a bit of a guest with me here, the creator of Ryu Hisanaga, DragonKnightRyu himself! In this A/N I’ll be needing to let him explain his views of how well I managed to write Ryu out, along with F-14 Tomcat Lover being the one to write him fighting most of the time. And now, without further ado, here’s DragonKnightRyu!
DKR: Hello Everyone, DKR here to give you all a quick rundown on Ryu Hisanaga, the most basic thing to understand about him is that he considers himself a soldier first and foremost willing to throw himself at the enemy so long as he knows it is for a good cause. His basic fighting style revolves around speed and fast, powerful hits with little reliance on defensive maneuvers, that does end up leaving him vulnerable to opponents that can keep up with his speed although he uses his Newtype reflexes to cope with it.
Xamusel: Okay, guys, I hope that this little bit of info can explain some things about how Ryu fights and what he strives to fight for. I should mention that there will be more fighting between Rau and the EA suits remaining in AF hands next chapter, with one little surprise from Duo coming next chapter as well.
Well, I’ll leave this to Tomcat to finish up when he gets on to finish up, if he has anything that he needs to mention here he’ll mention it. Also, if anyone is wondering, yes, the Grethick Battalion is my original idea, and, no, the CLA is not. If you have any questions, like who this murderer I’m referring to in the chapter is, then please ask away. Note that the questions will wait until after Phase 013 for the mailbag answering, when I have a good idea where the story will truly go from there.
In any event, I hope that this section explains something to you guys, so now I’ll let you go to what you are hoping to read after this update. Also, I have some Mobile Suit Profiles for you all after the A/N is over, for the Gundam nuts out there who want to know what sort of chaos is in store for the ultimate villains.
So, until next time, farewell.
~Xamusel
A/N:
Geez, what a drag, do I have to do this? Whatever.
F-14 Tomcat Lover here, I’m not closely fond of these here Author’s Notes, especially after others do them. I know I do a few, but I’m more of an informational guy...
Just Kidding!
Been practicing my Shikamaru impersonation... he’s quite easy to do, but at the same time one of the toughest to pull off. Helps when writing a character you put yourself a bit into their shoes and mind set. Either way, on with this A/N.
Well, here’s the second chapter done. Been working overtime on this, burning a lot of midnight oil. We’ve created several characters and no there’s no prize for the sneezing ZAFT pilot that came over from the AC Gundam.
Do note that there are a lot of characters, some are gonna wind up elsewhere throughout most of the story. The plan here is to -Redacted- -Redacted- -Redacted-. That way we can have ourselves one heck of a throw down!
The CLA will be playing a major role in the story, since with J7 not getting nuked, we needed someone else to step up and play the bad guy. The Coordinator Liberation Army is large and actually will be structured closer to a regular military than ZAFT or Blue Cosmos. There goal is the annihilation of all Naturals, no shocker right?
On the other hand, they need Naturals around, for a while anyways. They are stupid, they see the numbers and realize the danger. True they can ‘trim the numbers’ as much as they like with in reason for them.
Chapter updates will be both slower and faster incoming, my laptop is getting the final bugs worked out. I should have it by the end of the day, 11/8/11.
On that note, I will also be focusing more time on my own stories and for those gripping at me, here are two I’ve decided to work on, along with a third that’s already being worked on: Halo Saga: The Fight Restarted, Valkyria Chronicles: The Lost Shinobi, and a surprise, surprise, a Guntech Project Story, which will be a surprise folks!
Also, I got an off site challenge hurled my way folks, so I’ll also be devoting time to a Macross/Mass Effect and a Code Geass/Mass Effect.
Now... we’ll see about the latter of those two and even the former might take some time.
Still, I’ll still be working with Xamusel here to keep up this story, I’m actually liking what we’re doing here. So anyone want to Read and Review, with a strong emphasis on actually leaving something other than a ‘Nice Job,’ ‘I like this story,’ or simply asking questions, tells more in depth about what’cha think and we’ll see what more we can do.
Also, if any of you noticed a grammar error, please speak up, this can get long and we’d like to know before hand, we can even go back and fix it. Might net’cha a nice thank you in a later chapter.
Sincerely,
F-14 Tomcat Lover

Colours: Primary Black with red trim and woodland green on thighs, face and Biceps.
Info: Precursor to all the G-weapons most significantly the Strike with its IWS system replacing the Striker packs. This mobile suit was originally to be scrapped due to its difficulty to control, even more so than the other G-weapons. The Masamune heat blade operates similarly to the Exia's GN sword/rifle but does not have a gun attached to it. The Dragon is capable of mounting striker packs. The Designer of the mobile suit is unknown but rumours point it towards the fabled Dragon of Endymion.
Author Notes: An inspired mix of the Strike's versatility and the Exia's primary weapon, the Masamune Heat blade operates as the name suggests, the blade is heated to the point where it no longer just cuts, but melts and cauterizes at the same time making it the perfect weapon for dealing with other Gundams, the heat blade is also sharp enough to use against regular opponents without using its heating function. The energy transfer cable also operates as the name suggests allowing the Dragon to steal other mobile suits energy reserve and using the second cable can recharge allied mobile suits. This belongs to DragonKnightRyu, by the way.
