I'm fairly sure Arjuna at the very least admires/adores him, if not he wouldn't have kept the arrow he shot Karna with out of tremendous guilt. Lorewise, he even took care of his son as his way of redeeming himself. Well, that kid died in the end tho.

That's because Higashide don't know how to write Karna. Just go watch CCC Karna and see how awesome he is.

I don't know about that but there are certainly differences. Karna in CCC was definitely more snarky, with most of his lines centered around those snarks, but other than that they are still basically the same. Karna still takes everyone seriously and his loyalty to his Master is still at the extreme, I think he only appears emo to people mostly because of translations and the fact the anime doesn't focus on him or his thoughts. That's just what I think.
