No it doesn't matter if it's selfish or selfless. If it's a dangerous enough threat that it summons a Ruler to fix it then it something that will go badly, regardless of the intentions or even the person who has the wish thinks that the world would actually better the way they think. Rulers can be seen as something like counter guardians in that sense.

I know the Grail has a consciousness but how does it know in advance what dangers lie in the future? Like how could it even foresee Shirou's wish? Is it because it's linked to Akasha so it has records of all past and future?

A: The Greater Grail does not have a will. Justeaze's soul was completely sublimated.

It's not a rule of the setting, it's a common theme between stories, there's no reason characters can't wish for it but I doubt one will ever succeed.

So a new fansub batch by NoobSubs was put out for Episodes 1-12 and Season 2 thus far (including 15) on nyaa.

Anyone check those out if they're any better than UTW? Are they pretty much APEX under a new name?

EDIT: Derp, never mind, it seems they're just a re-encode using the UTW files.

If the Grail doesn't even have a consciousness, my first question is even more unanswered...

The answer is that the grail didn't foresee anything, nor did it know what Shirou's specific wish was, but rather it summoned Ruler because it had confirmed the presence of another, stray Ruler-class servant who was now participating as a master. Stopping him because of his wish is something Jeanne decided as the representative of the grail.

its probably the world detecting that shirou succeeding is probably a bad thing so it moves ala counter force and had the grail summon jeanne
