I think that's also keeping in line with Super Ghouls & Ghosts. When you beat the final boss there, it turns out you didn't have the correct item to kill him, so you have to start from the very beginning. Than the item becomes obtainable on the second playthrough.

Oh by the way, with this game being a SNES game, I don't believe there were any proper save files at the time so... Yeah the game is hard as hell enough already with 2 hits = dead. Rofl.

In the nes version of ghosts and goblins which is an arcade port iirc, you have to start over from the graveyard regardless of whether you have the shield or not
If you don't have the shield, after you beat level 6 you only get booted back to level 5 without even the chance to face the final boss

Right now I'd say Roman CE on your Saber for the Glacier area; Da Vinci CE on pretty much anyone, with a preference for Assassin for the later difficulties of the Lava Cave; and lastly Mashu CE on your Rider at the Castle area.

I don't think I'll throw the Shop CEs on anyone too big yet, mostly because the only one I've bought so far was the Mata Hari ones. Think most people will be looking for the gacha ones here since you only have to get lucky once with an Eli-chan drop to MLB all three of those.
