As for criticizing his actions, it's a bit more cut and dry to do that in a passive story rather than one where you take an active role. Sure people give him shit for saving Saber from Herc after the church, but most don't know that if you chose the smart option there and run the fuck away, you get wrecked by Illya. It's actually one of the things that I really like about the story is how the sane person option almost always leads to a horrible, gruesome death.

Yup. For example, near the end of Fate, Shirou has a bad feeling about going into Kirei's murder dungeon. If he does the 'smart' thing and runs? Kirei gets all mad and shows up at Shirou's place with Lancer and Murders him.

Personal opinion. I hated him through most of the Fate route because of his stupid actions and how it felt he detracted the story for the other characters, but I slowly grew out of that by the end of it and of the other two routes. After that I was able to go past my earlier impressions and more thoroughly understand and enjoy his character. Still not one of my favorites but I now don't think of him as completely irritating.

I think anime only's are going to like Sieg. I think his origin as a humunculus and not 'normal Japanese highschool boy you could find anywhere' will keep people from noticing that hes mostly a pretty standard LN MC.

Those people who started on Zero and completely missed the aesop that Kiritsugu's take-no-prisoners style of self-appointed "justice" is a God damn tragedy to be avoided at all costs. Many of these same people say that Shirou is "lame" for not being a grimdark murder machine like dear old dad and wish he would start gunning down orphans and lording over some edges.

So what you guys are saying is:

1. Shirou didn't want Saber to fight because she's a girl.

2. The inner monologues that make Shirou so complex are cut down, thus making him a little generic.

3.People found Shirou lame compared to his morally ambiguous dad, who's​ entire character was written to be everything wrong with an idealist.

Number 1 doesn't sound like Shirou at all. And Number 3 sounds ridiculous, do people seriously think Mr "I shoot handicapped people and their wives" Kiritsugu is better than Me "I want to help people, and avoid losing lives" Shirou?
