Basically, if you always perform criticism using 'agency' as your primary framework you're going to have issues with Zero because it presupposes their situation. Sans Saber, the question is how they identify - and for the most part, they over-identify with the situation as a coping mechanism. Sympathy is a task for the reader.

And for Saber the idea that her being held account for her own actions is somehow a bullying misogyny is pretty ridiculous.

    Yes that is correct.

And considering Aoi, Iri, Sakura and Sola-Ui, that's not a hard argument to make.
You could make the argument that Iri made a conscious choice to follow Kerry's wishes, you could easily say he took advantage of a impressionable 1 year old homunculus. Even having a child with her. The important part to note is that Kiritsugu is not a mentally balanced person, so he didn't consciously take advantage of her in the sense of making her accept his wishes. But objectively, he did intentionally have a child with a person who was kind of a child despite being physically an adult. Then had that child experimented on with his knowledge, and had mother and child take on the burden of accepting his ruthless wish for the "greater good". So it's messed up no matter how you slice it. It doesn't help Iri admits she never really understood Kerry's ideals, she just supported him because it was him.

Sola felt disillusioned with magus society in general and her place in it, but Kayneth did treat her decently, it was the fact she felt that the engagement was just another part of that society weighing upon her that she rejected it. I doubt they ever talked about it, so the results being the fallout that they were are expected.

Maiya is in a similiar position to Iri in that they gave all of themselves to Kiritsugu who they looked up to, to the detriment of themselves, but never really understood those ideals. Didn't they joke about "blind love" in the Einzbern Consultation Room?

Sakura was a victim of the society they are in, which seems to be unfair for both men and women not born into specific circumstances. Just like Fujino and Kohaku, she was used for her abilities. You could say Aoi fits that somewhat since her ability was to make super powerful children, which helped make the problem of having multiple children in magus society worse. Though the narrative both says she was a victim of cirmcumstance, yet also says she knew the choice she was making by being the wife of a magis, and iirc the material books say she has a distortion similiar to Tokiomi where she wouldn't be able to maintain a healthy household due to it.

So I think it's less an argument about male oppression, and more the fact this world and some societies are fucked up, and the people involved are fucked up too.

So, what, even if she had shacked up with Kariya, she would have been a magical tiger mom or something?

If she shacked up with Kariya she'd be dead, either because Zouken don't need her around once he gets her Magic Superbabies, or because she snaps one day and tells Kariya to stop being such a Beta and he chokes a bitch.

    Is that the case?

Mind of Steel hints at a completely different story and leaves the details to the reader's imagination.

On the other hand, SLH has great production values, and is very climactic.

One can like them or dislike them, but IMO they have an undeniable appeal.

Do we know anything of what Nasu's vision for Zero would've involved prior to Urobochi writing it?

Are there little notes or prototype stuff that hints to some stuff about what Zero would've originally looked like?
