    Monday - Morning

Jade had been paying very little attention to the surroundings. even when the "pengy" revealed itself to be more of a design choice then a genetic trait, she still seemed to be more interested in making it waddle or bounce then anything else.

...But even Jade's legendary indifference to her surroundings couldn't help but to notice the very surroundings changeand snap into the form of a battle. When the school changed to an arena, she finally released the strangely dressed man. When she turned to face the much larger boy, the smile on her bespectacled face did not waver...

...But a gleam to her eye made it clear she now recognized him as an enemy.

When the fierce man attacked it looked very much like it might be over before it started. Besides trying to save her new Pengy friend, with only seconds to act, Jade seemed unable to even save her own life. When the sword arm, flashing evilly and more then enough to better through her jacket, for a timeless moment it seemed all Jade would be able to do was fling out a single arm in a futile effort of defiance.

It was a sharp crack of tortured stone on steel that announced the equation had changed.

Just as the blow was coming home, a swirl of mud and impossibly liquid stone lifted Jade and the Pengy nearly ten feet in the air, out of the way of the attack. Its said a lot about the force and power of the assault that thick stone broke cleanly under the force of the blow. However the impact slash was soon covered by rippling mud and in under a second had vanished entirely, leaving Jade and the Pengy overlooking their would be killer from a pillar of stone roughly three feet around and 9 feet tall.

"this should be enough, right?" Jade said almost conversationally to the self proclaimed cutest and bravest penguin ever. "Let's get started!" Jade called down, drawing a strange stone chisel from a sheathe at her side.

In and of itself, Jade's Miracle appeared to be nothing out of the ordinary. It was a simple thing of earth, no longer then a foot, with a large, milky blue stone set at the grip. One handed, Jade had an awkward grip around it, her small fingers not enough to wrap around it. It was clear it was not in any way intended to be a weapon.

...But when she pointed the Petroglyph at the column upon which she stood, the writhing rock began to change. It happened almost instantly. The gathered stone began to morph into..something else. Stone eyes peaked out of stone fur. Stone paws seemed ready to leap from the earth at a moment's notice, so that stone teeth could rip prey asunder. Stone muscled surrounded a stone heart, protected by stone bones. Between heartbeats, the stone Pillar had become a massive stone wolf upon which Jade and the pengy sat astride, Jade much more comfortably on a saddle designed for her exact dimensions. At the crown of the saddle, there was an open groove that appeared to be waiting for something to be inserted.

"Hey goggles," Jade called again, an obvious taunt to her voice entirely at odds with her open faced demeanor. "I am not cold anymore!" Jade said, lifting the petroglyph high above her head. "And guess what I just remembered I know how to do!" And with that, she slammed the Petroglyph down into the groove, where it clocked with an audible chink sound.

And then, that massive wolf, several tons of stone and power, simply shook itself as if waking from an overly long nap, snarled long stone teeth, and leaped for the larger man's throat, accompanied by peal upon peal of the red haired girl's delighted laughter. The seen of animal viciousness marred only slightly by the desperate blue and purple penguin awkwardly hanging on for dear life to the stone wolf's hindquarters.

    Wise Up!

    Miracle: Petroglyph
A mid sized chisel approximately one foot long, it has a rounded, grooved grip that perfectly fits jade's hands. The roughly egg sized pommel stone is slightly to large for one of jades fists, but she can secure an excellent grip with bone hands. This is useful when Jade puts her magecraft to work. The petroglyph is a tool for creation. The true magic within, stone to flesh, allows her to breathe life into stonework. Alone an interesting but not especially noteworthy ability, but the combination with jade's magecraft has yielded...interesting results.

Stone shape, Great messa D rank common

An ability practiced by earth mages. A large amount of earth and stone may be moved and manipulated. This spell is often used as a ranged attack in order to assail an enemy with large spears of stone...However Jade has found an alternate usage.

Wildshape - [semi unique Rank C]
The ability to precisely mold stone in such a way as to perfectly simulate anatomical functions, down to the smallest detail. The actual magic itself is fairly simple and easily reproducible, but the required secondary factor of being able to perfectly form an entire being's structure from muscle, bone, to flesh without flaw requires an anatomical mastery that should take decades to master. For Jade, whose love of nature and history has pushed her already bright and inquisitive mind into savant levels of understanding, her wildshaping ability truly sets her apart.

By combining Great Messa with wildshape and the power of the petroglyph,
Jade can enter the battle astride a weapon of war. for this reason, she is a knight of a rather literal sort

    Nobody’s Theme

It wasn’t too long before the ceremony was about to begin. People had already sat down, and those standing were simply bidding time for the priest arrived. If listened closely, the various gossips and rumors could be heard concerning the funeral that transpired two days beforehand. Regardless, it seemed the ceremony was about to start – and he knew when it was time to leave.

“I’m going to get some air.”

He said it the woman holding her hands together while a stray tear dropped from her eye. Wiping it away the boy turned to the center and walked out, his back and mind rejecting the scenery and exited the stage. Not long did he walked, observing the multitudes of imagery painted on the walls and ceiling before the sunlight rays knocked him square in the eyes.

The sky was beautiful at this time of the year. No clouds blocking the sun’s affection nor rain drops to ruin the morning mood. The perfect day for any individual to take a breath out of life and enjoy it to the fullest…

…At least that what he wanted to believe.

In short, he wasn’t enjoying it, least not to the extent that others assumed he would.

His back ached, and a simple message wouldn’t have done him any good. He breathed slowly at first as if making sure the amount of air he had was limited, and the center of his palm felt sweaty. Heartbeats escalated like a time bomb waiting to go off, yet – from the outside appearance, everything seemed fine.

Clutching the center of his chest… Noah screamed. He screamed where no one was watching him. He screamed when no one would pay attention. He screamed because it was the only moment he allowed such feelings to show without the privy eyes of others upon him.

    “Ahhhh… ah… ah, ahh, ah...”

An ugly, unwanting sight he was thankful no one, but himself could experience. Tears poured down more than he felt like giving but the dam was already broken. His mind broke down and not long did his feet gave out and collapse. The walls acted as a good cushion, and soon the shuddering stopped only for the lone silence to take over with the few hiccups along the way. Moments like these made him appreciate the loneliness. The time to think things through and keep secrets to whom but oneself.

    “I’m… sorry…”

Again, no one was there to hear…

    “I’m… sorry…”

Again, no one was there to see…

    “I’m… sorry…”

After the third time, Noah heard footsteps walking nearby. His eyes lit up as his head went up, curious yet equally bother that someone would walk in on him at his most vulnerable.
The steps grew louder, and from the corner, a shade of a silhouette walked in utter silence. The stranger was a woman…

    “A boy?”

Noah’s first impression was to comment on her face. It looked easily sculpted by godly hands, yet he knew that it was all her natural beauty.

    This was their first meeting.

    Boy meets Girl.

    Normal meets Abnormal.

    *Song Ends*
    ~0~o~0~

It was a memory he thought to be buried in his subconscious, a flame flickering on the verge of blown the by the raging torrent. However, watching the stone giant come to life before his very eyes allowed the dying flames to lit up into a forest fire. There was no noise that distracted him from the rushing winds blown from the creature’s summon.

The noise and everything but him and the one restraining his being devolved into an empty abyss. His eyes dilated whiled the heart screamed at him to move, to do something, anything that went against his “world.”

He did not like the abnormal.

He did not like the girl that was far beyond his comprehension.

He did not like the penguin nor the bully that disturbed his sense of peace.

Thus he did his best to avoid them all… but as such, it was pointless.

The women were right in stating that his sense of normality would soon be thrown away, but he’ll be damn to allow her that victory.

For now, in this moment and time, Noah bite back a self-mocking insult to his lack of conviction and searched. Down deep within the mind and body, Noah searched for the object – the proof that his life was far removed from before.

His back ached once more as it did back then… as if burning a hole in his existence as the pain cranked up to eleven. Toes curled, and lungs inflated to the point of nearly exploding.

    Fight fire with fire.

That is what she said before leaving. That woman who entered and left on a mere whim without regarding him into the equation.

    “C’mon.”

A faint whisper he told himself was nothing more than his heart speaking out.

    “C’mon…”

It grew louder as his head rung from the booming noise breaking off the chains of its prison and climbing through his very soul. Noah slackened his head and allowed a chuckle he could not identify as his own before screaming within the depths of his ego.

    WISE UP!

Indeed. Everything meant little if it went against him. Noah’s craving for the past had not wavered in the slightest since his discovery of the so-called miracles. And as such…

“I wanted to be left alone….”

Light explodes from his back, casting away the abyss that took over his mind and into reality as it overcame the surrounding area. A pillar made of pure white where Noah was split into seven before condensing and shaping into orbs of lights. Each one cast in black despite their angelic summoning as they systematically circled his body, acting as both offensive and defensive barrier between his attackers. The captor from before was now feets away, his condition similar to someone who's just been tackled by a quarterback.

A step was taken, and his eyes and arms lit up, brimming with what he wished no longer to plague him for the rest of his time here.

    Another step forward…

“You want to climb to the top, right? You can step over whoever you want, but I’ll be damned before your feet every reaches me. I’m surviving this shit so kindly back off or get buried!”

    The final step was taken…

    “Clairvoyance.”

    Wise Up!

    Pandora’s Tears
7 Obsidian sphere(s) which rotates and orbit around the user's body as an extension of themselves; an automated defense system capable of pushing offensively when given the command. Pandora Tear’s Unique Attribute 全部見る目 (All-Seeing Eye), allowing the cost of C-rank and above spells to be cut by half. If two spells higher than C-rank is used, then only the first will receive the effect. Available Once per turn

    Clairvoyance - [C-rank Unique]
A spell formula enabling the usage of ‘future sight,' thus anticipating as many actions during a turn a single target makes. Can be used up to five times per day. Usage of multiple targets within sight consumes additional uses. This ability, however, causes a mental pollution upon the user which may or may not harm his sight as well as ability to act for a duration once the spell wears off.

    "Heh..."

There's a momentary hint of satisfaction hidden within the Headmaster's expression. Maybe she has found your courage amusing, or perhaps she has a thing for defiant ones and their eventually-collapsing morales... or, for all you know, she might have been reminded of an equally appealing memory. Regardless, it seems the show so far has been enough to keep the leader entertained, something that anyone can consider a relief, especially when you take into account the whole academy is this "Caesar's" Roman Coliseum. Even a Tir Na Nog student would have panicked when thrown into that inferno, but your predisposition shines through like a star. The average onlooker would have claimed your energy to come from an unnatural innocence but, as a war veteran, Sawai Mihou knows better.

    ---That's no naivety.

    "Yeah!"

Your upbeat approach proves to be the right kind of treatment as Kato's recovery is nearly immediate. Without thinking about it too much, he hands you the package. You can tell with a glance that his act has nothing to do with personal insecurities; rather it's the result of the absurd amount of trust he places in you. If there is someone who can believe in complete strangers in the blink of an eye, that's Kagari. And if his levels of trust can go that far for someone he doesn't even know, imagine how high they can go for a fellow classmate. For some reason, you can't help but feel even more invigorated-!

However, as soon as the two of you take a couple of steps forward...

"That's no good. Didn't I teach you never to take your eyes off your surroundings?!"
By the time Mihou's warning reaches your ears, your body is already moving on its own. You bend your body backwards in a desperate attempt to keep it out of harms way as a "sword" mercilessly slices through the spot where your head was moments ago. Your enemy: An humanoid golem with long, sharp arms that may as well be made of forged steel. Even with Heaven's Eye activated, the attack has managed to catch you off guard and you can feel the strain as you push yourself in order to recover before the follow up comes through. This is bad, you have yet to grow accostumed to the increased gravity... At this rate you won't make it even with Mana Burst-!

    "Like I'd let you...!"

Before a tragedy occours, however, Kagari strikes your foe with a flaming fist. The force behind the impact is not only enough to send the doll flying but also make it shatter half way through the air. You're saved... In spite of the increased gravity, the golem moved swiftly and for it to bypass your defenses until the last moment, it must have been pretty well camouflaged, not to mention well-positioned. Certainly, there seems to be more to the test than it looks... For a moment there, you almost completely forgot about the meteorite rain-!

"Oh... So you weren't alone, huh?!"

In a moment's notice more golems acquire shape just like zombies rising from their graves. The numbers alone are intimidating... Add the fact that you haven't even advanced a hundred meters and the situation calls for despair... Is this test even clearable...?!

    Five Kilometers...

You stare at the package in your hand.

Meanwhile, the students watch the scene with a mix of awe and horror. This is a fairly common occurence in Tir Na Nog, especially during cases where the Headmaster takes over someone else's class. A part of their soul seems to whisper that they might be the next victims. However, as if to calm the fear of the masses, a new figure manifests within the molten land, in 'spectator mode'. Funnily enough, it's not the figure of a human being, but rather that of a small drone.

"You know," It speaks as it hovers closer to the woman. "If we don't hurry, we'll be the last ones to arrive... Again."

Sawai closes her eyes for a moment as she ponders whether to cut down the machine or heed its advice. In the end, a small smile makes itself manifest.

"It's okay... Consider the exercise failed if they aren't done in a minute."

The remark seems to draw the attention of the gadget even more.

    "You seem awfully confident."

"They are my students. It's only natural for me to know their strengths and limits..."

    "...One minute huh?"

While her only physical response to this is to maintain her cheerful smile, the first thought that actually crosses the mind of Nakamura Amaya is more that Sawai Mihou might have actually lost her mind; now faced with a horde of golems along with the meteor shower, the idea of crossing the entirety of this field without being struck or allowing the package to be destroyed in less than sixty seconds is one that simply doesn't actually sound feasible...

    Even so...

"Well, guess that means there's no time to mess around, get ready to move Kagari-!"

That was only the first thought; ultimately she is able to accept the subtle increase in the challenge a heartbeat after she hears about it. She is not the type that likes to lose, by all means, when she had said that she would be the one smiling at the end of all of this she had meant it, and with the subtle pressure coming from the principal the idea of failing seems even less appealing than usual, so-!

"Gonna have to be straight from Point A to Point B-! No detours-!"

A crimson blade emerges from it's sheath at her waist.

Stopping to fight everyone or even to simply avoid the strikes would take far too long; under these gravitational conditions, and without the time to adjust herself completely to them, she could likely only gain enough speed to clear the 5000 meters on a straight path through continuous use of Mana Burst. Of course the enemies made taking such a straight path impossible, they would inevitably get in the way as would the meteors, so-

Flames gather at a sword's edge.

-She simply has to crush all resistance at once. It's the sort of logic the Headmaster herself would use, and indeed, that is why her mind darts towards it immediately, after all...

She could appreciate that sort of logic herself.

    Flamberge-!

Devoting one arm to the protection of the package, clutching it tightly to her chest, the crimson-haired Nakamura lets out an amused laugh as she swings the rest of her body to following along with the path of her flaming sword, and indeed, while it seems almost as if she is wasting her time and striking at an opponent that does not exist, the emergence of what could only be called a 'storm of flame' quickly puts those thoughts to rest.

It's much like a cyclone, launched in the direction of her flashing sword; a storm of fire that will only last for a couple hundred meters before losing momentum and fizzling out to nothing, the intent of destroying all opposition is clear, but the reality is that this storm alone will not be able to do so by itself, but that is fine, from the start she had never expected it to do so, indeed, following through on her strike and spinning around akin to a top, she refuses to waste any gathered momentum, sword smashing into the molten earth with an absurd, godlike strength a Kiseki-Tsukai should not so casually have, and indeed, she did not-!

    "x1000!"

Her sword however, could allow strikes that were far, far stronger than what her simple body would allow on it's own.

    Gravity Blade.

The ability to manipulate the 'gravity' of the weapon, or more accurately, it was the ability to freely manipulate the sword's weight. While her blow clearly sunders the earth before her and sends wave of stalagmites and boulders shooting towards the enemy, it was not her strength that allows such an absurd blow to come to pass, but rather just enough strength to guide an otherwise immovable force into other things.

The sword at x1000 it's own weight was enough to completely demolish a building simply by dropping it, which was good, because when it reached those sorts of absurdly high weights, the sort of weight she would have to use if she ever sparred with Sawai...

All she could really do was raise it then drop it, guide it's descent down in order to maximize damage potential, she would have to reduce the weight if she wished to change the angle afterwards, which made these sorts of bizarre high-settings much more dangerous to use than the lower ones...

But under these conditions, and with a partner to watch out for her, there is no real danger of a swift reprisal from her opponents.

While many of the rocks scatter, revealing a molten river lying down far below, the mere appearance of shrapnel is still not enough to take out everyone at once, or at least, that would seem to be the case...

    Lower weight to x50-!

"Now, Burst, Burst-! Come on Kagari, we'll hit it together-! 5000 Meter Home-Run!"

If not for the one armed but almost baseball bat-esque slamming of the flat of her sword into the largest of the fragments she had created, the movement following along so soon after the release of the fire storm that it surpasses it in speed and becomes an absolute bullet all it's own, one that threatens to turn into magma as it crosses through the storm of fire, but one whose mass and speed were just large enough even after beginning to melt...

That a slipstream is created in it's spinning wake.

One that drags the already moving storm of flames along in it's wake, threatening to sweep up meteors and hidden golems alike and potentially...

Clearing a straight path right to the goal, a stream of crimson air that they could accelerate in without fear of obstruction, so long as they stayed just far enough behind to avoid being pulled in themselves...

It should be fine, but if Kagari can't keep up with her running pace...

She just might have to carry him.

    Wise Up
    -Everheart-
A Miracle that is similar in appearance to the Magical Weapon of Rosettia Everheart, bearing a single cutting edge, but lacking the definitive curve of a katana, it’s hilt is that of a hand and a half sword, and it’s design enables it to be held comfortably with either one hand or two, enabling a more flexible sword style for the user.

Crafted by the Nakamura Family (mainly Nakamura Megumi) for the purpose of easing Amaya’s transition from a normal human to a Kiseki-Tsukai, it’s a gift that made Amaya realize she was truly considered to be a member of the family, and thus, she treats it with an almost absurd level of care and attention.

It’s unique trait “Gravity Blade,” is the ability of the sword to increase it’s gravity, or more accurately, it’s weight, represented by a miniature dial at the top of the sword’s hilt, which can be turned one way or the other with her thoughts to either increase the sword’s weight to raise the physical strength behind the strikes, or decrease it in order to make it easier and faster to use the blade in battle. The sword itself has no actual upper limit to how heavy it can get, so the ‘limit’ of it’s unique trait is rather how strong the user themselves is at the time, and thus, it’s a sword that naturally becomes stronger along with it’s user. Even so, clever usage of the sword at things like 50000x it’s actual weight, can result in impressive physical defense out of the sheer weight of the blade alone.

    Spells

    Common - C Rank
    -Flamberge ~ Flame Brave-
A relatively straightforward spell, coating the blade of Everheart with intense flames, the user strikes a single time, with an intense storm of fire released along with the initial slash, engulfing those who had dodged the initial sword strike itself with flames. As the released storm follows the general direction of the strike, it can also be used as a relatively effective mid-range spell.

    Common - E Rank
    -Mana Burst-
A spell that was popularized by the Nakamura Family, but one that, while taught to every member of the family, is not strictly inherent to their family line. Is essentially the increase in performance caused by charging one's weapon and body with magical energy and instantly expelling it. Simply put, it is recreating the effect of jet burst by expending large amounts of mana. Useful to Amaya because of the nature of a Kiseki’s magic, when her sword is in it’s heaviest modes, use of this technique becomes more and more necessary for her to finish her swings.

    Exodus (Complete)

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stilled and the actors leave the stage, the story will never truly end.

Regardless of the form it takes, as long as there are memories of it's existence, the story will continue on.

In a small ward in the heart of a once devastated town, life carries on as it always has...

    Because of you.

    Please, remember it warmly.

We'll continue to walk down this path for eternity.

"What the hell...? Aren't these guys supposed to be from the Red Settlement?"

Still on the ground after being knocked down by your awakening, the bully cannot help but to whisper an honest question. 'If you do not get serious, you are going to lose this fight', is the most prominent thought in his mind right now. It's only natural: Both Jade and you showcase a potential far greater than that of the average student from your dorm. The ignorant onlooker might even claim this is a battle amongst equals. Such shame will not be tolerated by the Blues-!

The Miracle in his hand extends, adopting the shape of a whip. Its length is hard to determine, even by taking a glance into the future. Then, It wouldn't be wrong to think it is 'as long as the user desires it to be'. With a sharp needle on its end that could very well dig a hole on your throat, it becomes apparent that your foe is trying to finish this in one blow. And he would have certainly been successful had you not used science to anticipate his actions. You tilt your head slightly to the side at the last moment, allowing the weapon to pass over your shoulder, announcing the end of the struggle. It will take some time before the user can bring the whip back, giving you enough of a window to finish off an unarmed person. However...

If that is the case, why is the boy so calm...?

    "...!"

Guided by your visions, you instinctively duck and barely avoid a counterattack from your blind spot. The responsible is not another student, but the whip from before. Like a snake from a mobile game, it somehow managed to make a 180 degree turn in mid air as it aimed to sting the back of your head. Furthermore, it speed did not seem go slow down at all. Having failed to hit its target twice in a row, the whip once more changes its course, this time with a downwards motion that goes after your feet.

    ---This is bad.

The Miracle you are up against is hard to predict. You have to rely on Clairvoyance to have a chance to fight, and even then, so far you have not found an opportunity to attack.

If this encounter draws long enough, you'll be at a disadvantage...

    -------

    "You can't be serious..."

A single swipe from that beast is all that's needed to eliminate a contestant. Had this been a real fight with no Folding Jackets in between, the superficial injury on Igarashi's Yuji's chest would have been much more deep and severe, perhaps enough to kill him. Now, while this by no means is the toughest challenge he's faced, he has to give credit where it's due. No ordinary Miracle-Wielder can make such a big familiar in the blink of an eye, much less with this amount of detail put into it. But what bothers the man the most is not that, nor the control she exerts over it on top of that. Rather, it's the keen instinct that he could see underneath her mask. The girl is nuts, sure, but she certainly knows how to go for the kill.

    "Yeah...?"

A second leap backwards puts him momentarily out of reach. The creature is bigger, stronger and maybe even faster than he is, so fighting it at close range without an ace is asking for trouble. If that's the case, he'll rely on mid-range spells to get the job done.

"Well, I know of something way cooler than that."

The man extends his arm, his bokken now pointed at Jade and her wolf. At first glance it looks like he is about to make a declaration, however, his intent becomes clear the moment his weapon is surrounded by the crackle of lightning.

    "---Raiden!---"

A blast big enough to engulf the familiar alongside those on top of it, it is safe to say that it'll be the end of those caught by it. This is no ordinary spell-!

    -------

    Wise Up!
    Quetzalcoatl
A whip that makes no noise as it travels through the air. It's maximum length is unknown, but it possesses a mechanism that allows the user to manipulate it with the single press of a button. It also possesses a sharp edge meant to make up for the weapon's lack of offensive capabilities. Compared to the average Miracle, it is very flexible as it has a long list of uses, however, it requires a lot of training and concentration to make good use of it. Its special ability is Emperor of the Sky (大空の皇帝 Ōzora no Kōtei), which enables it to change its course mid-flight through a series of buttons located on the handle, which acts much like a joystick. The limits of this ability are currently unknown.

    Wise Up!
    Raiden
    Common - C-rank
A sudden discharge of electricity of great porportions, Raiden turns the user's Miracle into a thunder cannon. Its destructive power is high, but it requires at least three seconds of charge up time from a stationary position before and between each shot. However, in a pinch, a nearly inmediate blast can be fired if one knows how to take one's Miracle to its limit. That said, such reckless behavior incurs in the weapon overheating faster, not to mention a good chance of it sustaining permanent damage.

Hmm. Maybe I should have warned him about that beforehand? I've done my fair share of peeking in the past, so I kind of have this "sixth sense" when it comes to the dangers involved. Though, I guess I could just be really lucky.

Makoto runs around in a panic as I attempt to wake up. Yawning- still rubbing the sleep from my eyes- I can only think about the first thing I was made to see this morning. And while it was brief, any chance I have at seeing Rie naked is one I will gladly take. After all, it's not often you come across a girl with such a well-trained yet feminine body. Her muscle structure is undeniably impressive and her training shines through in both her form and figure. However, through her own diligence she has managed to maintain a deceptively soft and ladylike image. Just the right amount of toning, but not so little that you can't tell she isn't serious about martial arts. It's a body she's worked hard for. An effort that I can't help but feel the highest admiration for. And knowing that such an ambitious woman is my fellow student feels me with both pride and joy.

On the other hand... There's that other girl. Shishidou Kae I think was her name. I've never really paid too much attention to a girl's beauty or what-not but I guess she looks... alright? Makoto and the others always go on about how she's smoking hot and stuff, but I just don't see it. Personally, I think Rie looks way better. I mean, just looking at her legs earlier I can tell that she has put zero effort into toning her body. She's one of those types that is just naturally in-shape, I guess. A natural model. But, that won't be enough to get her through life. Quite honestly it's a shame. I get the impression her body would really be something else if she put some effort into it.

I let out another yawn. I'm practically sleepwalking.

Makoto says something off to the side, but it doesn't quite register with me. Instead, I'm already heading towards the door. Given Rie's reaction time and attitude, I can't imagine it taking her more than a couple of seconds to reach our door. And it's probably not a good idea to make her angrier by keeping her waiting at the door.

Placing one hand on the handle and using another to lazily fix my hair, I find myself idling thinking about the brief glimpse I caught of Rie's panties. And (without even thinking) as I open the door and utter...

    "Pervert..."

Do not be fooled: The delicate finger being pointed at your chest is no less dangerous than an actual weapon, and its wielder is one more than ready to fire the trigger, even more so after hearing the casual comment about her weight. If it were Makoto on your shoes, it's likely that he would've already been kicked through the wall in a way so cruel it'd leave no space for comedic relief. The only reason you are still alive is most likely because Harukawa Rie has known you for some time now, and possibly expects you to be her teammate at the upcoming tournament. She has not said anything about it, but since you're the closest person she has within the Academy, and having witnessed your martial arts prowess, not to mention having trained together in the past, you make for a reliable partner. But, again, make no mistake: Rie might be a warm person underneath, but not enough to let a childish prank go unpunished. The moment her mind finds a way to hurt you without leaving you crippled for a good week or two, she'll go for it. Given you're still half-asleep and your body shows plenty of openings, you wouldn't even be a rival for her right now.

"Wait...! Takumi is innocent...! It was all my idea-! Please forgive us...!"

Inugami's brother instincts must have flared up, because he just (unnecessarily) placed himself between Rie and you in a (most likely futile) attempt of shielding you. In short, there is no longer a reason to hold back. Makoto will take the brunt of the damage and you'll act as his cushion once both of you get rocketed towards the wall at the other side of the room. Divine justice is right about to be served when...

"Haha... Well, they said they are sorry, right? There's no need for more violent acts, Harukawa-san."

Shishidou Kae, a guardian angel for some, a mischievous older sister for others. She's here to defuse the situation in a way that would save everyone. After all, Rie is bound to get in trouble if she happens to cause property damage. Harukawa seems to be aware that you didn't actually say that you were sorry and all, but ultimately lowers her 'weapon', guided by Kae's tender hands. Soon afterwards, the four of you are standing outside the bedroom, prepared for the day ahead.

"Although if you truly regret it, inviting us for breakfast does sound like a good idea."

Kae doesn't really mind the peeping incident, but she's certainly going to take advantage of it. Sharing breakfast is the perfect way for everyone to resume being friendly to each other and having to buy a generous one is bound to hurt the boy's pockets enough for them to think it through next time they try to violate a girl's privacy. Oh, and it looks like she has already found the weakest link to make this strategy a success...

    "... Isn't that right, Inugami-san?"

    "Y-Y-Yes... Right away, Ma'am!"

Woah... He's actually red like a tomato...

    Jade Sapphy
    Russian Institute - Blue Settlement
    Monday - Morning

Jade was someone who took the world at a wink and a giggle. Her favorite activity in the world was curling up with a good book and read the evening away. It really didn't matter the type, cheap manga, trashy romance, advanced biology, nothing beat losing oneself into the allure of the printed word.

But mass destruction on top of a monster took a close second, in Jade's opinion.

She had been well aware that a single blow was not significant enough to destroy the protective jacket. The layers of defenses woven into the variable armor were significant enough to withstand the charge of even some of her stronger creations, the stone wolf was certainly not capable of simply breaking through.

She was a little disappointed in the relatively light wound though. A small part of her mind with a certain clinical detachment catalogued a superficial cut and some bruising to the local muscular structure which would make melee attacks somewhat uncomfortable, but would not likely present an immediate detriment due to Goggles' very likely adrenaline rush acting as a natural pain suppressant.

The rest of her mind was consumed with annoyance that there wasnt more blood.

She was just getting ready to rectify that when goggles proved he had some teeth of his own.

The blast of electricity was far outside of Jade's expectations. She had never even heard of an instant cast spell of such proportions, her overconfidence cost her dearly in reaction time, even the wolf couldn't dodge in time...!

It was a familiar sound of tortured stone that announced she was also not without resources, even caught completely off guard. As the blast crackled forward with all the speed of the god's favored weapon, A massive rock of stone rose from the ground in between the two fighters. The great messa was altered this time, not so tall but thicker around, approximately 5 feet tall and 4 feet of the thickest stone, an instant castle wall that could withstand the mightiest of blows.

    Raiden crashed through it.

with an overwhelming power disparity that bordered on the insulting, as if declaring the supremacy of father sky over the mother earth, the bolt of electricity shattered the hastily prepared defense and crackled into the stone stomach of the great wolf as it reared in a desperate last effort to get its own body between Jade and the attack.

At that, it was hard to see what happened next. Several tons of nearly vaporized rock scattered through the immediate area, creating a heavy stone mist, obscuring the battle field momentarily.

Well, Jade herself knew what was happening, it was the second time in the same number of minutes that she found herself whirling and spinning along the ground. The impact of the blast had traveled right through her mount and sent her spinning through the dirt, her jacket capable of mitigating but not entirely neutralizing her impacts. Though she could not see her pet, through the petroglyph and her innate connection she could feel its pain.

The magic that Jade practiced had a significant weakness to the method. Stone muscles fueled stone movements. Oxygen was pumped to those muscles by liquid stone blood, pumped by a stone heart. Unlike most familiars created by magic, the creations of Jade lived. Truly lived. Stone was given life through the power of the petroglyph. This allowed for self sustaining creatures that lived not from the continued application of magic but by their own natural anatomical functions. The weakness of this method was that life created by natural anatomical processes ended when said processes did. Some familiars could shrug off maiming or even lethal injuries without even noticing that they had sustained such. Cut off a golem's arm, it would strike with the other. Sever it completely at the stomach and it would crawl on the ground. Strike off the head and the head would bite at the ankles.

The stone wolf was not such a creature. As she picked herself up, readjusting her glasses half askew, she mentally reached for her friend. Through their bond, Jade felt its injuries, felt its pain, its fear. Its resolve to drive away or kill its enemy. But she could also feel its limitations, its weaknesses. She could the places on its body where no amount of willpower or bravery would set right was unforgiving lightning had rent asunder.

"Tom and Jerry went to the circus..."
"Tom got hit with a rolling pin..."

Through the stone fog, Jade's voice rang out, completely at odds with the deadly battle...though it was completely impossible not to recognize the notes of malice that were the undercurrent of her melody.

"We'll get even with that circus,"
"we'll buy a ticket and wont go in!"

Jade became clear at that point, her hand stretched out to a great stone beast, that had lowered its head to lick weakly at her hand.

She must have looked quite a sight when she Grasshoppered up onto its back. A pathetic sight, it must be added. the injured wolf stood proud, unbroken, but it was obvious even at a glance that the beast was struggling even to remain upright. Battle aside, even staying on its legs was a challenge.

But no mage would fail to recognize the heat generation that signified a new power of the stone shaper witch. Raising both her hands high, Jade finished the lyric...and her spell.

    "Same song...second verse."
"Things could get better...but its gonna get worse!"

Jade Sapphy said, slamming her hands into the side of the familiar, triggering the Heart of the Mountain. And that is when the wolf...changed.

The stone muscles, wilted and quivering in pain suddenly straightened, then bulged obscenely. Stone from the ground, the air, rippled and flowed snake like over the rock beast. It's size increased from only moderatly larger then a regular wolf to that of a good size stallion. Stone canines elongated and stretched from a mouth that itself had to grow to contain them. And in particular, a newfound evil glint shone out from stone eyes as the wolfc's killing instincts were sharpened to a state that was no longer a mere replica of the wild.

In moments, the familiar had changed from a strong stone beast to a refined killing machine. Perhaps even more terrifying is that...

It was clear the power of the wolf was only just beginning to swell.

At that point one could be forgiven for thinking that a certain goggle clad bully had best ready his magics if he wished to avoid becoming intimately familiar with teeth boasting nine inches or more of length, and indeed, Jade's beginning charge bore down on the blond as if she had every intention of overrunning him and any electrical attacks he could muster in his own defense, when Jade revealed another facet of her personality.

She thought attacking people in the back was hilarious. AT least, it surely must have been obvious when the wolf aborted its attack run in a jerking motion with the obvious intent of juking away from any reflexive continuation of Raiden or another such blast and careened towards the other pair squaring off.

Knights were a class of opponent which charged through enemy lines and slaughtered the unwary quickly. And the wolf was a creature well suited for whirling and delivering a surprise attack against a distracted foe. In truth, it was for this reason that she had chosen this form for her mount instead of one of the more awe inspiring variants. One of the most common tactics of the wolf pair was the hamstring, in which a stronger enemy was baited into attacking one and then the other would rush in, deliver a disabling blow to the lower leg, and then escaping quickly the reflexive whirl and counter strike.

It said a great deal about Jade's sense of style that as she drove into the other bully attacking her partner with a strange whip device, her wolf's bite was clearly aimed slightly to high, primed to deliver a shredding attack to the area that would be the next step up from the upper thigh, a location which might be charitably described as the hindquarters.

In other words, Jade's massive, several ton and magically enhance monster was currently in the middle of attempting to rip a hole in the whip user's ass.

    Wise up

Heart of the mountain [Common, D or C:]
Directs magical energy into the base foundation of a spell, enhancing it. For a stone spell 2 magic points can be invested to raise a spell's general power, improving it by one. For other forms of magic, three are required. A basic form of support magic common to bishops. By enhancing a spell gradually, it is possible to create larger, ritual class effects without the need of a circle. Of course this requires an ongoing effect to be able to strengthen.

    Noah Hibiki
    Russian Institute - Blue Settlement
    Monday - Morning

In that very instant, ocean hues blossomed brightly within the center of his eyes, capturing the very reality surrounding him and with a weight of its hammer, crack the image in his head open. Shards of the present locked within his conscience as each fragment of the images played simultaneously. Every outcome is different from the last with only a five-second run.

The nature of a spell allowing one to grasp the possible futures as though looking through a kaleidoscope: Clairvoyance. If there was but a fatal flaw it'd be that it doesn't account for an interaction that may change the outcome outside the target themselves. His eyes witnessed but could not keep up, each flashes blinding him as his mind began breaking down from the sheer use.

Ah, he hated this. Even if he acted accordingly and found a way to strike back, the painful feedback would be his undoing. It felt that same as playing Russian roulette. Time flowed once more in his mind, only one second passing by and before he could react to the possible direction of the whip, his body shook and before he knew it a shadow eclipsed over him.

There was a chill down his spine, no - not his spine but the entire body momentarily froze at the proximity of the living stone wolf, and it’s mad rider enter the fray of his fight. He wasn't ungrateful, but the sheer winds are crashing into him as he watched the wolf charged with its massive jaw ready to crush the man in front of him.

“I don’t feel sorry for him.”

And he wouldn’t. The bully attacked him like a fox attacking a defenseless rabbit, and now fate was paying him back ten folds.

It was a perfect move on her part despite the question in the back of Noah’s mind concerning the eccentric girl. She looked better off than he was if her assault was anything to judge as well as the maddening smile she wore. Honestly, it was amazing that such a being could show on the field of battle like this, but it goes to show that people like her exist after all.

    She might be an ally…!

Not one to miss an opportunity, Noah tugged his mind at his floating sentries waiting on standby and gave them a command. Like ants following the queen’s power, they reacted with precision. Three out of the seven scattered and flown to the wolf as it descends upon the man, standing by its side along with its master.

“Defend her from all corners!” His eyes immediately traced back to the direction from her starting point and watched as the Bokken user stared back with a smile.

As helpful and tactical as it was to attack from behind, it was also a foolish choice to leave her opponent without at least incapacitating him. He tugged at his mind again, and the remaining four sentries formed a square in front of him.

He didn’t bother looking back, putting a surprising leap of trust in her ability to provide him some support as he did now and sought to confront the man responsible for the attack on him. A gun went off in his head; his brain is sending two separate commands simultaneously while his eyes began to glow once more, burning his mind and causing him to bite his checks inward to hold back the pain.

    “Ladybug!”

The first command relay to the three sentry meant to cover his “partner” back signaled the moving turrets to exploded like stars, casting a brilliant light before forming three spartan-like shields hovering around different sections of the stone creature.

“Now…” Noah thought, signaling the remaining turrets to provide a different countermeasure. Two separate and attached themselves to the back Noah’s heels as though it was shoe accessories while the last two placed themselves on his back as if wearing them was part of the fashion.

The world around him broke once more, his eyes dilated and focused on the Bokken wielder, and exhaling, Noah whispered to himself.

    “Energy bolt.”

The foundation of the ground exploded as turrets let lose a hissing before sparks came and then a full-blown crimson jet stream of electricity shot out like a cannon. The level of intensity and control was at its max and rather than used as a projectile as intended, Noah shot himself forward, propelling himself as a shooting star came into existence and it’s target laid out in front of it.

    He knew it was crazy.
He knew how maddening and insane fighting like this was.
He knew that this might be his first and last day within these school ground.

But, he'll be damned if he go out without at least trying to show off despite his need of remaining invisible. It was a matter of his small amount of pride and anger getting the better of him. The attack pattern would be simply if all went according to plan. His opponent was clearly a melee fighter and evidence would scream at him to go for range battle. His arsenal of spells lacked enough firepower behind them so he opt for something more conventional; beating his opponent at his own niche. Getting into street fights enough to be somewhat competent at hand to hand combat allowed such an option to come to mind. The only advantage would be that his miracle acting as a propulsion system would give him the slight speed increase that determine the winner.

    Wise Up!

The whole thing resolves itself rather nicely. Or at least that's what it seems like on the surface. In truth, these guys are probably just hiding their motives under the guise of forgiveness. Rie is pretty easy to figure out in that regard. Makoto... Makoto is probably just thinking of something perverted... And Kae...

    "Breakfast, huh..."

Shishidou Kae is just exploiting the situation to fill her stomach. But what can you do?

I yawn and stretch, figuring there's no point in trying to fight the situation. It's too early to muster up that kind of mental energy. I was gonna just go about some morning exercises and wash up, but I guess that's out of the question now. It's time for my wallet to be bled dry.

    "Oh well."

Kindly pushing the girls into the room, I shut the door behind them so that we're not disturbing our neighbors. With that out of the way, I step on over towards the closet and take off my shirt.

"You know, Makoto... While I don't condone your peeping, I'm not going to stop you. But if you're gonna keep it up, the least you can do is be a bit sneakier about it. If anything, please try not to drag me into it. It's kind of a drag."

The socks comes off next. Followed by the pants.

"Still. It was a good view. Not to offend, but you ladies really do have nice figures. Still, Rie has you beat by a mile, Kae."

I smile and nod to myself in agreement before looking over at Makoto and the girls. Seeing how My roommate is just standing their, doing nothing, baffles me a little.

"Well? Aren't you going to undress? Fair is fair, right? If you're going to look at the girls naked, it's only fair that they see you naked, right?"

Not missing a beat, I remove my underwear and start looking for fresh clothes to wear.

    Nakamura Amaya
    Tir Na Nog - Dojo
    Monday - Morning

Without restraint, you unleash the power inherent to your miracle and use it to shatter any shackles binding you down in an instant, going as far as paving the path towards victory along the way. In comparison to other trials you've faced in the past, some by the Nakamura family and some by Sawai herself, these 'obstacles' can't even begin to compare. Granted, to reach these heights you draw your weapon dangerously close to its overheating point, but you've learned when to draw the line too, so when it is all said and done, that's hardly an issue. Besides, you can't say you dislike taking risks from time to time.

"Ooooh, nicely done, Amaya! I'm burning up!"

Reaching first name basis with Kato is truly inevitable, but your particular case might be worth an inclusion in the book of records, especially when you have been the one to call him by his first name first! One thing is for sure, you won't have to carry this boy around (perhaps to your dismay). Taking aside the fact that his personality would not accept it -being a man who aspires to become a MAN-, his hotbloodedness has caused an aura of heat and fire to manifest and surround his body, a formula that would most likely cause first degree burns to those who dare come in contact with his skin or uniform. In this "mode", he can use flames to propel himself forward in a similar manner to your Mana Burst, making it possible for him to keep up with the fastest sprint or leap you can muster.

    ---Even so.

    ------It's impossible.

Your gut and your reason seem to agree that your biggest rival right now is reality itself. It doesn't matter if you've temporarily cleared the road of all threats or if you possess the tools required to cover the distance at speeds that surpass those that common humans dream of. Five kilometers within less than a minute is simply not manageable at your current level. Even if you found a way to catapult yourself forward at maximum speed, it would take you twice that amount of time at the very least. And something tells you the one who orchestrated this whole thing is aware of that as well. Did she set an impossible goal on purpose...?

Still, even if that were to be the case, moving forward is an absolute must.

It's true that a part of you cannot afford to do anything but grin at adversity with someone like Kagari looking so confident. But... A much stronger force, the will not to give up... Actually comes from within you. A flame of rebellion, a fire that feels like getting back at the world for being unfair. That's right, this cruel reality is the same you've seen countless times before as you grew up. Few are the times you could fight against it... More often than not, you would be forced to accept it. Yeah, you are familiar with how that feels. And that's exactly why you can stand against it now.

---You are not scared of it anymore.

"It's like you said, the goal is straight ahead! Let's go, Amayaaaaaaa-!"

Kato's body erupts forward, gaining a slight edge in speed, but you make sure to keep up the pace. This might not be an official race, but you have no intention of being the last to arrive to the finish line either way! As you dash through the storm of crimson red, the rest of the students can't help but to stare in awe. Comments like 'Amazing...', 'Will they really be okay...?' and "I didn't know they were so strong..." are common amongst them, but none of them manage to reach your ears. You are too caught up in the moment. You are so close to clearing this exercise that you feel like you can reach it by reaching forward...

    -------

    "..."

When the results appear on display, you confirm that you weren't even close to the goal. You managed to cover roughly half the distance before time ran out. Kagari looks a little disappointed at first, a little bit shocked that you failed too, but his recovery proves to be just as fast as his desire to grow stronger. Soon enough he's shouting about trying again in the near future, where you'll definitely clear 'the game'. The principal draws a smile that clearly says that next time 'it won't be so easy'.

"In the end, it looks like you speed wasn't high enough." Sawai Mihou declares. "Looks like you'll be wearing those weights a little longer. Still, since your performance was good enough, perhaps we could throw in a little more weight to them."

With the molten scenery gone, the class returns to the normality of the dojo. Normality that soon be disturbed once more, this time by the noise of gears turning and hidden mechanisms being activated. The building would begin to fold like a paper figure, revealing the blue firmament above. Tir Na Nog is a floating island that stays, most of the time, above cloud level, so sky views are often clear. Contrary to common belief -and perhaps induced by one or more potentially traumatic memories-, the students of this school do not really associate the sky to inner peace.

"Unfortunately for most of you, we will not be able to continue with this exercise today as we have an opening ceremony to attend. opening ceremony that, I am being told, we might be arriving late to."

Yep. For students at Tir Na Nog Academy, this can only mean one thing.

"It's good that we happen to be roughly twenty five thousand feet above Starlight Academy, where said ceremony will be held. I hope you guys have prepared a good landing strategy for this day 'cause we aren't really famous for giving second chances. Cya."

The last you hear before you are catapulted -alongside the entire class- away from the floating island is a comment regarding the envelope you've been holding tightly all this time.

    "You can keep it."

Sadly, you doubt it contains a parachute.

The signature move of the Miracle Wielder that goes by the same name, it offers a lot of flexibility and power despite its simple nature. However, due to special circumstances, Kato appears to be unable to master the original version of the spell and special modifications have been done to the formula to make it usable. While the exterior shows essentially the same, it workings appear to be completely different...

    Nakamura Amaya
    Skies Above Starlight Academy
    Monday - Morning

    "...Keep it-?"

It's a question that never quite gets an answer.

    Yes.

Flung boldly from atop a flying island -not for the first time- the sound of rushing air along with the sudden screaming of classmates -that honestly should have known this was going to happen- drowns out any real answer that Sawai Mihou would have been able to give her.

However, the red-haired Nakamura does not scream at all, no, at first it seems like she simply accepts the fact that she's been flung off the side of her school building, eyes glued not on the approaching ground or the rapidly fading safety of the floating island-top, but rather on the envelope in her hand, as if it had stopped her from really comprehending her sudden forced removal from the island, but-

"Heh... Alright. Guess I'll hang on to it."

The wind roars in her ears as she finally turns to face the approaching island with a quick spin, arms spreading out to stabilize her fall, not screams, but rather a sense of pure elation running through the tone of her laughter as the adrenaline once again starts pumping in her veins.

    Because this was always fun.

    ...Well, for the most part.

While it was scary in it's own way, there was still a certain sense of unrelenting freedom up here in the sky; a feeling that remained even while plummeting to what would ordinarily be a human's doom, there is no sign that she fears that doom in any of her movements, indeed...

Drawing out her descent with arms and legs spread wide in order to increase air resistance, searching out a spot in which to land, the girl disregards her classmates entirely and while many draw away from her at first as she slows down, once she spies her spot, a place in the plaza far far below...

She pulls her arms and legs back in close to her body, aims her own falling figure at the ground, and-

    "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-!!!"

Lets out a burst of power through her legs.

    "Ahahahaha-!"

It's a lot like a -slightly demented- theme park ride... In a certain sense.

One she could control to a certain extent.

While many take a more subtle approach with magically produced parachutes or wind-sorcery, the laughing figure of the Fool's Apprentice is one that seems to 'jump' every ten seconds or so, body spinning and flipping through the air as she takes her momentum into her own hands and becomes a self-propelled bullet of her own creation; the low-ranking nature of Mana-Burst was useful for things like this, correcting her own postures in midair, slowing vertical momentum and transforming it into horizontal momentum as she starts to 'glide' across the island with all the subtlety of a falling -exploding- star.

For a single moment in fact, she even lengthens her own flight by forcing herself to ascend, throwing her arms back out and gently rocketing upward again as if looking for the ideal entry point and-!

"Hahaha, yeah-! Alright, coming in fast-!"

Gotta try not to mess up the landing and break the island this time.

Nanako might throw a fit if she did the meteor thing into one of the classrooms again...!

Trees come into view soon enough; thrusting out a hand to lessen her own momentum with another burst, the girl that has long since become a horizontal comet 'kicks' off the air twice more in a zigzag pattern, bouncing back and forth through the sky, losing more and more of her speed with each 'backwards push' before finally coming to a diving, rolling impact with the ground, and-

    "Andddddd, nailed it-!"

-Transitions straight from that roll into a sprint for the ceremony grounds.

...Or at least, that was the plan.

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stilled and the actors leave the stage, the story will never truly end.

Regardless of the form it takes, as long as there are memories of it's existence, the story will continue on.

    "...!"

Quetzalcoatl is ideal for one on one battles, where it can be used to apply constant pressure on the opponent, being a weapon that can dispatch foes without the assistance of spells. It also shines as a support type weapon in team engagements, be it used to distract an enemy or to pull an ally out of harm's way. However, given the sheer amount of concentration required to control the whip, there is one scenario where the Miracle is clearly lacking... And that is when one is outnumbered or has to keep up with many targets at once without a teammate's support. It hardly matters if Sarumara Natsuo can hear the approaching gallop of his would-be-slayer, the best he can do to avoid the incoming threat is to twist his body enough to avoid further humiliation and attempt to dodge to the side, albeit with no real success.

    "... Gah!"

The attack actually manages to sever his leg, pretty much sealing his fate. It's fortunate that Folding Jackets come with pain inhibitors, otherwise he'd probably straight up fainted as opposed to letting out a grunt of discomfort. That said, even if his elimination is assured in the near future, he would be damned if he surrendered without at least trying to return the favor. Indeed, not finishing off your opponent in one blow given the opportunity is a big mistake 'amateurs' tend to make, and he is about to teach this girl why-!

Quetzalcoatl suddenly springs back to life and shoots towards the neck of the airhead named Jade Sapphy, following a trajectory that seems impossible for a weapon of its kind. Sheer speed and close distance allow for an attack that's hard to avoid without a good amount of experience or information.

    "...?!"

    Fortunately, you have just that.

As you catapult yourself towards Igarashi Yuji, the three autonomous Pandora Tears you left behind react to the presence of danger and shoot down the flying snake on its tracks. Granted, being a normal attack, its hardly enough to dispose of the Miracle, however, it prevents the attack from hitting home, and that's more than enough. Taking care of the fallen student should be a piece of cake now...

As for your particular case, well... You should probably focus on your own match now.

The purple haired man keeps swinging his bokken over and over, the kendo technique displayed being flawless to your eye. You thought that the surprise attack combined with superior speed would give you an edge, especially since your foe just fired a potent discharge moments ago. His weapon should be feeling its toll but...

    "You aren't half bad, kid!"

He says that but the only reason you are keeping up is because of clairvoyance. In hindsight, it shouldn't be surprising that fighting against him is this difficult considering he was able to hold his ground against Jade's wolf... Kuh! All you can do is prolong this stalemate. Even if you add Pandora Tears to the mix, he keeps avoiding your attacks just as easily...!

"You put up a good fight but..."

If there is a bigger mistake than letting someone off the hook in a battle, it is just forgetting about them. You probably failed to notice in the heat of combat but... You now recall Igarashi's group having at least three members, meaning one of them has been missing from the moment the fight began to rage on-!

    ---Camouflage-?!

It would be pretty bad if you were to be targeted right now. Sadly, you never managed to draw that much attention towards yourself. Jade has proven that, so far, she's the strongest link, and so she's become a priority target. Now that she's exposed, and now that your Pandora Tears need a momentary cooldown after shooting down the whip... Now is the perfect time for an 'assassination'-!

    "You are done for...!"

By the time the boy's figure becomes visible, there is no time left to react and a blade of blue light is swung down. Invisibility formulas are fairly common amongst 'competitive' Miracle-Wielders so the majority of Blue Settlement equips one as a staple. The penalty of having to reveal oneself once an attack is executed is compensated by the chance to inflict a lethal hit with one blow if one catches them by surprise. Without outside help, the chances of Jade Sapphy not being eliminated are low at 10%, while the chances of not sustaining a crippling blow are so low that anything else would be considered a miracle.

    "Huh...?"

The sword meets no resistance, it cuts through the air as if there was nothing there. However, that isn't exactly true. It just happened that whatever challenged the weapon just happened to be so light and insignificant that it required virtually no effort to be taken care of.

    "..."

The only thing that fit the bill in the near vicinity is, or rather was, the penguin that had latched on to the giant familiar for its dear life all this time. He is cut in half and soon later his body transforms into light particles, indicating he's been eliminated. He's not dead, however, as the body employed in fights is not actually one's original body. This is supposed to be a 'sport', after all.

At first glance, it looks like a pointless sacrifice. The penguin couldn't really stop the attack. However, the slash that should have divided the girl in two only managed to slice through part of her skin. It can't be called lethal and for a Miracle Wielder that cannot be called crippling either. In other words...

    ---A miracle.

With the boy having jumped to execute the attack on the animal tamer, having lost this opportunity means he's now completely vulnerable for the upcoming counter. He must understand this already, for the look in his face reveals nothing but shock. He has already lost.

... But then again, so had everyone.

    "Intrusion Penalty: 50%"

The system warns the participants of a new challenger. The Battle Royale Mode is actually meant for free-for-all battles and it is possible for outsiders to join. That said, to make things fair, the intruder's Miracle is automatically set at 50% the maximum amount of heat it can handle. This prevents Miracle Wielders from jumping into an on-going battle guns blazing.

That said, in this particular case, that penalty hardly matters at all.

"There is nothing I love more than the sweet melody of battle... But, sadly, breaking the rules is something I can't let slide."

Her words alone cause the world projected by Robotic;Notes to collapse, returning everyone to the 'real' world. Once there, a glance is enough to confirm that there are signs of confrontation in the area, nor wounds sustained by anyone involved. The penguin is safe as well, albeit somewhat traumatized. Those atop an earthen canine find themselves falling to the ground after its disappearance and those in mid-air are guided towards the same cruel fate. Finally, weapons return to their portable modes at the presence of a superior officer.

But perhaps the biggest before-after comparison is the attitude of the bullies. Once they get the chance, they all stand firm. They remain silent, their behavior resembling that of exemplary soldiers. They are legitimately scared of this person.

"Igarashi, I am disappointed in you. To use stolen technology for something you can achieve on your own... Worse, for your... 'clique' to do so badly against these newbies... Certainly, you've hit a new low. Expect a demotion once the Opening Ceremony concludes."

The Russian Academy is a military school, so misdeeds aren't taken lightly. While they are fairly common place, if you get caught, few authorities will turn a blind eye on it. The color blue stands at the top, and the school's reputation rests on their shoulders, so the faculty is extra harsh with them. In hindsight, Yuji should be glad: With Anastasya's power, she could've expelled him right then and there.

With that said, the woman gives you a sideway glance.

"Try not invade other dorm's territories, if you would. You might not be so lucky next time."

Igarashi's Yuji's Miracle, a 'steel' bat with the shape of a bokken. Designed as per his request, it excels in its simplicity. Unlike most Miracles, it lacks any special characteristic or mechanism. However, the secret materials sacrificed during its craft have turned it into an indestructible tool that will win the user any battle of endurance.

    Chameleon
    Common - C-Rank
Chameleon renders the user invisible, allowing them to move in a good position to strike, but also to evade or retreat. The ability to maneuver behind the opponent's back makes it a rather powerful Formula. It has a few downsides. The main one is that the user cannot utilize any other spells while concealed, which renders them vulnerable. The other is that, in order to attack, one must reveal their presence. Can be mantained for a long time but heat generation is rather large for a tool meant for support.
Fairly popular and has been the inspiration of many other invisibility spells.

She is known to be ruthless and absolutely merciless, and often instructs (and even forces) her students to be that way towards their peers and especially people from other schools. Follow her lead and you will be rewarded plenty, fail to meet her expectations and expect to be locked in the school’s torture chamber for a day or two.

Left, right, right, left, kick, swing.

Time and time again throughout the exchanges of blows did he show signs of weariness. It was to be expected, of course, that man was as he proclaims “Blue” and judging from the earlier reaction concerning the penguin, a class system was in place. Those who started out begin with Red while the upper tier was considered Blue.

How many battles did this man have to endure? One or thousandths to reach where he’s at? The movements of his arms weren’t wasted on fanciful tricks or overextension. Each one was precise and meant to deal a lethal blow if connected.

The only reason I was even able to endure and keep up was knowing his turn by three seconds each time.

    Kuh!

It isn’t enough. This body may know his patterns, but it’s too slow to keep up. In a battle of endurance stamina is the critical difference between living and dying, and so far he got me beat.

    “You aren’t half bad, kid!”

The tone he used was that of a being merely having fun rather than someone getting into a severe fight. The grin he wore and the relaxation in his shoulders as he swung with precision was almost contradictory.

His eyes weren’t looking at me. They weren’t looking at someone worth going all out. What they saw was a means to an end. A stepping stone for their goal.

My mind begun cracking as the images of the future penetrated my skull. No matter how many flashes pass through my body reacted as though being on autopilot. Clairvoyance had probably been an ability I relied on too much through the time I’ve had this spell.

“Don’t rely on such a cheap clutch,” was what that woman said many years ago.

If she saw me now, then she’d probably facepalm before lecturing me on ignoring her lessons. I hadn’t realized til now, but I was very fortunate to have met her then and there. I couldn’t say for sure how I’d feel if we met again but I can definitely say with clarity.

“You were one hell of a bitch, ya know?”

“You put up a good fight but…”

His tone suggested that he won, but so far all that could from this was a stalemate….

Hold on for a second. His eyes just now weren’t looking in my direction but behind m---

    Four-Eyes!”

    I messed up.

I messed up without even realizing it. Deep in my thought, I consider the possibility of leaving the girl to fight while supporting her with Pandora. By all means, taking down the other one would be easy. Yet, I forgot a crucial thing in battle.

Always keep track of your enemies numbers.

When this fight started, I failed to take in the fact that there were more than just the two of these bullies once the battle began. One more remained unseen since the field was dropped and now…

I recalled Pandora’s Tears, but I doubt there was time to provide a shield. M body immediately adjusted as the second before an unknown third opponent revealed himself, already in position as his sword struck down to bisect her.

    !!!!

What was bisected wasn’t four-eyes but the damn blue penguin whom she took into her arms!
I couldn’t even comprehend the sheer coincidence of the mascot saving her or perhaps this is what they called a “miracle.”

    ...It doesn’t matter though!

While the event within seconds had distracted us both from the sheer shock, I recovered first before the Bokken wielder did and time had slowed down by mere fractions of a second.

    Move...move...move...move!

My arm launched forward faster than I could predict whether due to instinct and eyes met for half a second… the victory was ours!

    “Intrusion Penalty: 50%.”

    What?

The reality that encompassed us collapse almost immediately without delay and my miracle had collapsed along with it.

    “Ah!”

Without my miracle, I plummeted to the ground and almost suffered a bruise on my back. It was too painful, but the sudden shift in scenery, as well as the loss of weapons, were a bit abrupt for me to take in. Brushing my back and rubbing my eyes to remove dirt I looked up and saw a new entry into the mixed.

"Igarashi, I am disappointed in you. To use stolen technology for something you can achieve on your own... Worse, for you're... 'clique' to do so badly against these newbies... Certainly, you've hit a new low. Expect a demotion once the Opening Ceremony concludes."

It was like being in one of those old-school military movies with the outfit she wore, but something tells me that she drills anyone harder than any general ever would. Her posture, her aura ooze of authority and the coldness within her eyes spoke of horrors she’d inflict on anyone who disobeyed. The worst was that the possibility of her being a teacher her was of a higher chance than anything else.

Out the corner were the men who prayer to her arrival was ready to take us down now stood in line with a nervous look in their pupils.

“So they know just how screwed they are. Huh?”

I looked back for four-eyes and sigh as she was back to her energetic self while even trying to grab the penguin once again.

Good grief, this girl really is out of place…

I admit that a small, tiny fragment of a smile appeared on my face. However, it was banished from the cold stare of the women who glanced at me.

"Try not invade other dorm's territories, if you would. You might not be so lucky next time."

An invasion? I couldn’t understand what she means--- ah. I see now.

What I was about to say may spell the end of me and potentially have me endure more pain than ever, but I couldn’t let the misunderstanding go for any longer than necessary. I bowed my head and replied.

“Forgive me for my rudeness, Ma’am. Me and… four-eyes over there was sent flying here by accident due to a mishap. We never intended nor had any knowledge of invading dorms. If anything we simply acted in self-defense. Please don’t take this as means of mischief.”

I took a breath of air after having said that. My lungs felt like it was about to explode just from being in her presence for so long.

This is what it’s like being in front of someone far more superior than you. The feeling of dread and frightfulness cams settled in my stomach the longer I was here. Although there was something else I wanted to say, and it wasn’t towards her but the idiot who decided to start these in the first place.

That girl was strong, stronger than me but it wasn’t insulting or anything. I knew that I may have just as well been the weakest in these school. Everyone here came from a prestige family or from a higher position looking for power and here I am from an ordinary town. Anyway, that girl summoned a golem in the shape of a wolf, and she might have more than that up her sleeves. It was best to keep track of this knowledge as well as the battle altogether.

The man known as Igarashi Yuji wields a Bokken far too durable and excels in melee combat.
My first opponent wields a whip with omnidirectional control and has yet to show anything else.
The last one attacked only when her back was turned while wearing some sort of camouflage. An assassination-type then?

I kept this in mind while waiting for the instructor's reaction---

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something broke in my left eye.
My left eye was crushed like glass, yet it was still there moving without injury.
This is what I hated more than anything else!
If there’s one drawback, it’s the feedback and potential risk of overusing Clairvoyance more than I can take. The spell has always been a pain to rely on, and it came down to luck on whether or not I get hit by it at all.

It was like playing Russian roulette.

I immediately bit the inside of my cheek and held my face from becoming ugly due to the pain that arrives from this. I didn't want to draw attention to that, yet the more I thought about it, the more apparent it became that showing weakness could perhaps be an advantage all on its own. Besides...

I'm self-aware that I am less than what people expect me to be...

...Although those same people might not be aware...

...That I can be more than what they might not see.
"Nothing is the greatest gift Mankind has ever been giving."

    "Wait. How so?"

"Because it's the only thing Mankind can ever give a shit about"

    Kurosawa Ryouji
    Starlight Academy - Yard
    Monday - Morning

In an instant the battle had ended, in one strike Kurosawa Ryouji was able to end it. It was his victory and yet it felt as anything but that... the whole point of these battles were for practice, for understanding his future opponents but that's not how it had ended. His whole plan had been turned on him, instead of finding a mark he had become someone else's mark. He had been played with and drawn out to fight and for his efforts he had been made a fool of. Whatever that woman, Ogami Guren, had said to him was lost as something familiar clicked within him. This victory brought him no joy or relief, just a bitter feeling that soon replaced with something far more stronger: Rage.

    "That damn woman..."

His teeth gnashed as his hands balled into fists.

"Looking down on me like that."

It didn't matter what 'promise' she may have had. To not take him seriously... it was something he couldn't forgive no matter what. Was it his fault for taking this little endeavour of his a bit too seriously? Perhaps, perhaps not.

Did he regret it? No, he would never hold back against anyone regardless of the situation. It was simply not how he fought, not how someone who aimed to be the best would act.

And yet, he continued to rage internally, unable to find an outlet. The feeling stewing inside of him with a matching expression.

No, she wouldn't get away with this.

He wouldn't let her away with this!

He'd just have to challenge her again. If she didn't show what she could really do then he'd just have to do it again... and again! Sooner or later she'd have to show her true-!

A familiar voice broke him out of his stupor and caught him off-guard, almost jumping as the familiar voice called out to him. His 'teammate'.

And what a strange pair they made.

"Don't sneak up on me like that, Belmont."

His foul expression was now turned on his teammate, well not that she could notice. Ryouji wasn't known for being some happy-go-lucky student like some other members of Starlight, if anything he was more of an oddity with his focus on going higher, and with that came his almost constant (and characteristic) grimace. Maybe that was why Veronica Belmont had gone along with teaming up with him though in Ryouji's own view 'forced' was more apt for himself considering tournament rules. Still, he knew nearly nothing about her and there was no mistake about the kind of partnership they were in. Winning the tournament, that's all that mattered to him and for her too. Or at least that's what he believed.

Either way, it was too late to back out now.

"You got a way of showing up at the worst possible time, you know that?"

Maybe she had seen their battle, maybe she would take it the wrong way. Didn't matter in the end.

"But I guess you're right, it would be bad if the next Champion didn't show up at the opening."

Even now however, after that humiliating 'battle', he wouldn't lose face. That boundless confidence, or what some would call arrogance, would pull him through.

    "Lets go."

Nayuta's lips flash a knowing smile for a moment as she addresses Sousuke, her eyes also briefly looking down the empty corridor in which they stood. It wasn't the lack of people or unusual emptiness that caught her attention, but rather the reverberating of the two's voices whenever they spoke.

As she looks back to Sousuke, the girl leans forwards lightly, her body swaying playfully with an air that compliments her slightly teasing tone:

"Hishikawa-san is a good teacher, and all good teachers know that without hardships to overcome, it's quite hard for someone to develop and improve~"

She looks at Sousuke in the eye, her scarlet irises reflecting the sunlight like rubies -- as if she is searching for his feelings on that matter. Shifting slightly, Nayuta seems to become a little bit more solemn as she continues:

"But you are right, she is no mean person. Hishikawa-san has a big heart, so everything that she does is in our best interest."

Glancing at the letter she's still held on to till now, Nayuta figures that keeping it secure would probably be better than lugging it around in her hand, and quickly slips it into her blazer's pocket, the only one in fact on her school uniform that is large enough for it to fit in. With that done, she glances once more at Sousuke. A short moment of silence settles in as Nayuta slips into a pensive state, finger on her chin and mouth slightly open, eyes skywards. Looking up a mental checklist perhaps?

Then, as sudden as her previous shift was, Nayuta spontaneously asks Sousuke:

"Oh, have you already had a look around the school?."

A rather typical question of her, who was most dutiful and considerate, and in this situation, surely as a student of Starlight Academy it was her very responsibility to help Sousuke if he needed to familiarise himself with the school and its facilities.

Jade couldn't help curling her lips over her teeth in a garish imitation of elongated canines. It was so damn frustrating! her surprise attack had went off with perfection, and she had claimed her first catch of the day. The boy had bled sweet. He had struck back of course, but that had been turned aside by some rather interesting magecraft, and now she had fully expected a rather entertaining cat and mouse game with their opponents as she and the other boy slowly and enjoyably wore down their opponent's defenses.

Then Jade had lost. Well, she hadn't lost yet of course, but that was completely academic. Somewhere in the back of her mind, a logical part of her mentally sighed in long suffering frustration that once more Jade's blood lust had blinded her to an avoidable mistake. It was only two late that she saw the attack coming.

    Then...Pengy!

Instead of the soul crushing change from an approaching hard fought victory to an immediate and shocking defeat, Super Pengy had appeared out of nowhere and took the strike meant to end Jade's rampage.

The world slowed to a beautiful second. Adrenaline coursed through her veins, giving her a moment of perfect clarity. The boy was uninjured, but his weight was off-centered. He had sacrificed balance and poise for a sure stroke. With the failure of that stroke, he was vulnerable.

Now, like any skilled warrior, he would regain himself almost immediately. It would be but the breath of time between heartbeats until he got his weight underneath him and started marshaling defenses.

But he did not have that time.

    He knew it.

    Jade knew it.

Jade loved the look in his eyes. The way she could almost hear his pounding heart, his reflexive denial of reality. Best of all...she could see an almost unconscious blink. She knew that look. It was the look one gets when they are out of options. When the logical mind, the warrior's heart are in checkmate, and for a split second a person reverts to being a little boy and girl, closing their eyes so they don't see the pain coming.

Then the whole world changed. No, it died. The magic inherent in Jade's wolf shook wildly. In particular, all the power wrapped in her enhancement spell seemed to be blown away in a single puff of icy cold wind...generated by an icy cold teacher. The mere sight of which caused Jade's wolf to given an involuntary quiver of reaction. A stone tail literally curling under its legs. A great jeweled eye looked back at its master...and then all of a sudden Jade's pet simply crumbled to so much rock and dirt. Jade could practicality hear "nope, not going to even try. Your on your own kid!" as it voluntarily ended its time on this world.

And then Jade's thoughts came to a screeching halt again for the third time in less then that same number of seconds as a blue lump half pushed itself from the snow in a semi-coherent daze.

The reaction of course was embarrassingly obvious for the same girl who very recently had been reveling in the tearing of flesh and the smell of blood.

"Pengy!" Jade said happily, hearts and musical notes practically floating above her head as she lifted the strange thing up to bobble his head back and forward.

"Super Pengy!" Jade repeated, enhancing the point. And after a brief furious whirl of action, the strange person, still only half conscious after the fight, was ensconced firmly on Jade's shoulders, serenaded by a brief and rather tuneless hummed rendition of the Mario growing up after eating a mushroom melody.

The following strange blend of march/dance/disorganized stagger could only be described at "completely ridiculous" It seemed like every single moment Jade tipped a little further, as she had both of the Penguin man's arms clasped firmly by the end of his (hers?) costume clad hands. She used less for stability purposes and more to rock the unfortunate creature around on her shoulders, continuing the dance.

"Coming to save the day as fast as he can,
Every girl he meets is his biggest fan,
Super buff muscles and an awesome plan,
the number one hero, its Pengy man!"

When by accident or design Jade waddled over to the others who were still prattling on about something that was clearly less important then pengys.

"Hiya!" Jade said, intimating a waving motion the outstretched hand of clearly the coolest person in the room, Pengy man. Unfortunately this motion was finally the straw that broke the camels back, as the poor thing, likely to its own great relief, spilled off her shoulders and into the snow.

That was OK though. She did need to take care of something. Jade walked over to the blue clad woman and pushed her glasses up her nose.

...Then she simply walked past her. Instead, stopping in front of the chameleon who had nearly blind sided her a moment of ago. The difference in height meant that her tippy toes were required when she unceremoniously shoved her face so close to his that he undoubtedly felt the ridges of her glasses.

"You. I am not done with you. Doesn't have to be today, doesn't have to be tomorrow, but you and me are going to play again."

And for a split second, behind that cheery smile and dorky glasses, there was a bloodlust that if only for a moment, eclipsed everything Jade had already shown up until that point.

"I see. You are fortunate to have her looking after you."

Sousuke responds, his eyes meeting yours. For someone like him, it is not hard to tell that you are trying to gauge his reaction with that move, even if it is in a polite way. He takes no offense, nor does he seem preocupied. He merely allows you to take a peek into his soul, even if it's only for a moment. While your words speak of strong ties of loyalty towards Nanako, what Moirai feels appears to be closer to genuine admiration. Hishikawa is a role model, an example to follow. Even if she does awkward things that look out of place sometimes, she clearly possesses the most important thing for a teacher and a principal: Love for the students. A part of him actually feels a little jealous that you have the chance to interact with such person as often.

"And not really... While my teammates and I have throughtly studied the layout of the school before coming here, a map cannot compare to the real thing. I would be glad if you could show me the places Starlight has to offer. That said, this is probably not an appropriate time to do so. With the Opening Ceremony right around the corner, we can't really afford to be wandering around. We should probably head outside and meet with the rest before it starts."

A few students do not put much attention to the tournament but the grand majority of them does. Even Sousuke, who belongs to a small school, knows the imporance of such event. In fact, the sole reason why he is here is because of it. So even if there were time to spare, he wouldn't be able to think of anything else.

"Ah, forgive me. I didn't mean to sound bossy."

His eyes say something like 'If there is something else you rather do instead, don't mind me'. In reality, it didn't even appear if he was trying to boss you around. In fact, this is not the first time he has offered an apology in fear of being misunderstood. Did something bad happen to him in the past? Or is it just the way he is? At this point in time, you can't really tell. Regardless, you put your best reassuring smile on and agree to walk together towards the gathering point.

"You must be wondering why I simply didn't join Starlight in the first place..."

After a few minutes, Moirai speaks all of a sudden, a stern expression on his face. Indeed, while you weren't about to voice it, there is no denying that you are curious. While other schools are more strict in that regard, Starlight Academy introduces a big number of new students each year and rare are the cases when someone gets their admission request denied. There'd be no way he'd be left out if he wanted to be a part of it.

"My family is the one that founded Stregnia, so you could say I am bound to it. As of now... It's really far of from the ideal Kiseki school. We're familizared with the working of miracles and their formulas, but we lack the technology needed to test and improve our findings. If we do well in this tournament, Stregnia will receive the support it needs in order to change for the better."

A lot of responsibilities have been placed on Sousuke's shoulders. Though he does his best to remain composed, anxiety and concern hide underneath his mask. A part of you realizes he's not telling the whole story, but given that this is your first meeting, it would be rude to pry any more than this. Nevertheless, deep within those golden eyes burns an iron-clad determination that cannot be mistaken for anything else.

"That is why I must do my best in the upcoming trials."

A reason why he cannot lose.

    "W-wwwait, Takumi... Y-you can't be serious-!"

Makoto's voice gradually begins to lose force as his face abruptly changes from a bright red color to a deep purple one. While everyone else can shrug off the scene as if there were nothing spectacular about it, perhaps with the occasional look of amusement or annoyance in their faces, that is not the case with Inugami, who never thought he'd be driven into such a dangerous spot. The idea of undressing in front of the girls is enough for him to forget to breathe and his embarrassment is such that he might as well faint the moment you blink. Granted, that does not seem to discourage you from following along with your plan. After all, for you it's not that big of a deal... It's not like Makoto has anything to be ashamed of, either.

"Oh? Good eye! Few dare to openly admit it, but everyone knows Rie is one hell of a girl~"

Between Kae and you, the conversation continues as normal. She does not mind you changing in front of her, nor does she take offense to your casual comments or remarks. At the same time, none of it feels forced. The two of you are only acquaintances, yet a friendly chat can be had in spite of it all. A woman who seemingly aspires to live life to its fullest, rumors claim this girl can play the big-sister role no matter what pinch you find yourself into. And while in big schools like Starlight one needs to take stories with a grain of salt, it is at least true that she has a big circle of friends not just because of her good figure, but also because of her positive attitude and having helped other students overcome personal difficulties in the past.

The kind of girl Inugami Makoto would melt for.

    "... Isn't that right-?!"

Shishidou delivers a surprise attack from Rie's unprotected side, a glomp determined to end that serious expression on the silver haired girl's face. And indeed, although Harukawa is capable of delaying the inevitable for a few seconds with a poker face and a silent tongue, once she reaches her limit there is nothing that can stop her from revealing a faint blush. Hell, being her roommate, Kae surely already knows what buttons to press to get any reaction out of her!

    "... Ugh..."

Meanwhile, the soulless corpse of your roommate rests on the floor, consequence of failing his own trial. Helping him here would be stepping over your boundaries, so there is nothing you can do but face reality: The male party will be the one to pay for breakfast. After all, if you allow Makoto's wallet to handle the weight of it alone, you fear he might not be the same afterwards.

    -------

For Starlight's cafeteria to be this empty... One would normally need to wake up really early in the morning.

"Say, Shishidou... Have you gathered a team yet?"

However, that isn't the case this time around. Since today marks the start of the 'World-Wide Magic Tournament', most students have already taken care of breakfast and moved on to 'more important' activities. Strategy meetings, last-minute training sessions and team recruitment are still going on as the group speaks. Perhaps because you've only been studying at Starlight Academy for a semester or so, such worries seem to fly over your head. Makoto and Rie do show more concern (and a somewhat concealed excitement) than you've expressed thus far, but even they fail to grasp the importance behind it. Indeed, for most new students the WWMT must feel no different from a school festival. But, for those who have taken part in it at least once, said event is a fierce competition that promises a future of either success or failure.

"Yup. We even managed to find an operator last week. Since out of ten students only one decides to become one, it's been rather tough. I heard at least half the teams are going to enter without one. Anyways, are you feeling better, Inugami-kun?"

Those words marked the end of Makoto's hope of being part of Kae's team this year. Since he has been undergoing an special training schedule to become an operator in case he never manages to move up from his current role as a pawn, he might have had a chance if he had asked sooner, but alas, the late bird never gets the worm.

    "Yeah... Somehow..."

Inugami briefly averts his gaze, looking down at his solitary cup of green tea with slight embarrassment. Inside, he's probably getting at himself for not being brave enough to strip or maybe fantasizing about a paralel world where his stripping would have had a great charming effect on the ladies. Either or.

"Hishikawa Nanako, I wonder what kind of trial will hers be..."

Harukawa, who has kept quiet until now enjoying her healthy, yet abundant breakfast, mutters those words with intrigue.

    Starlight Academy- Lunch Room
    Monday- Morning

Even after all the excitement earlier this morning, breakfast is a bit on the awkward side. Makoto and I did end up paying for the girls' meals, but the mood kind of dives afterwards. It's not like I don't understand why, it's just that I don't get why it's weighing so heavily on everyone's minds.

The World-Wide Magic Tournament. I've heard about it here and there, but I've never really gone out of my way to figure out what it's all about. But, basically, to my understanding it's like a magic equivalent to a major martial arts tournament. Students split up in to teams and assign themselves roles based on chess pieces. Those teams are then pitted against other teams and... well... I figure the rest is pretty self-explanatory.

Just like with your typical martial arts tournament, I would assume this would be a great way for someone to make their name known. Contracts, endorsements, fame... Things like that. So I can see why people hoping to make it big in the world through the use of magic would be taking this so seriously. I on the other hand am basically someone sitting on the outside looking in. I'm not really trying to rise up in the world or magic, per se. I'm just in it for the experience. However, looking at the faces of my peers makes me wonder just what exactly their individual goals are. Hell, I'm even curious as to why Rie seems so serious about this.

    "The World-Wide Magic Tournament huh..."

I hadn't really given any serious thought into entering; however, I'd be lying if the idea doesn't excite me a bit. All kinds of different mages are bound to show up there. And there's no doubt that each and every one of them will be strong and unique. The challenger in me wants to face those people in battle. If not to understand my master's teachings, then for myself.

"Hmmm," Continuing to ignore my food, I lean back in my chair and start to balance on the back legs. Looking up at the ceiling, I consider my options, "So... Makoto, Rie. What are you guys planning on doing? Assuming you guys don't have teams it'd make sense for the three of us to team up and go from there. Technically speaking, we already know each other fairly well. This is especially true for myself and Rie. So our teamwork would probably already be better than most teams assembled in a rush."

My mind clears. The thought of this team battle tournament starts to interest me the more thought I commit to it. And the more I think about it, the simpler the answer to entry seems to be. But, as I sit there and think about where I am now, the sight of my master's back lingers in my mind.

"Although... It would be kind of fun... if we could all manage to be on separate teams," As my mind wanders, I start to think out loud with a smile, "That way we could all fight each other in the tournament."
