Gas leaks all across the planet. Even in areas with no natural gas or pipelines, a gas leak somehow happened.

I'm guessing one of them instigated the entire plot. It seems like a Beast-like thing to do, destroy the timeline to protect pruned ones, and bring back the Age of Gods at the cost of all of humanities progress. I don't think it'll be Beast VI, I think there will be a Prototype event for that considering the datamined Servants. Doesn't seem like Amaterasu either (though I haven't started Extra stuff and could be wrong there).
