Biography: Originally a third-rate magus from a backwater village in Belgium, upon discovering his magical talents, he saw them as a chance for him to make an impact on the word. Seeking to hone his meagre talent, he travelled to London to join the Association; however, his subpar skill lead to his rejection. Burning with humiliation, and witnessing the far superior skills of the Grand magi awoke something within him, and subconsciously triggered his Origin of envy. In a fit of rage, he attacked the proctor of his entrance exam, and was on the verge of killing her when a thought struck him. Doing something that should not feasibly be possible, and should’ve almost certainly killed him he gouged out her crest and Magic Circuits and grafted them onto herself, leaving her mutilated corpse behind him. But this was only the beginning. His Origin driving him forward, he began a career as a serial killer, stealing the abilities of people – not just mages – that catch his eye, and assimilating all the things about them that please him: abilities, memories, appearance etc. The fact that he is an indiscriminate serial killer, the fact that he steals Crests and the fact that he possesses a Reality Marble all combine to gift him a Sealing Designation.

Character: Originally a cheerful and optimistic young man, who greatly admired the achievements and powers of the Association’s bright and best, upon awakening to his origin, his admiration soured to envy and his ambitions to become a great mage on his own became the wish to take away everything from those he admired. Very little of this original personality remains, only his twisted ambitions that drive him. Something of a moot point anyway since he always adopts the personality of someone he’s killed.

Magecraft: Briar possesses a vast magical skillset due to his theft, however his ability spread is as shallow as it is wide, because he simply reads from the memories of his victims rather than endeavouring to learn how to use the skills himself. He possesses an immense number of (stolen) Circuits, but however refined they were originally, they are now barely functional. Consider a number of perfectly engineered racing engines that have all been hacked to pieces, then parts of each taken to construct a new engine by an amateur. Therefore, despite his massive numbers of magic circuits, they are all, save the ones he originally owned, of the lowest possible quality. The desecration of such perfect works alone would make him a pariah in the world of mages. He possesses two different Mystic Eyes, stolen like most of his magecraft. His left eye carries a Charm effect and his right eye is Enchantment.

Soul Chimera: The name given to Briar by the Association due to his habit of changing his identity every so often, so given to him because of his operating style. He seeks to become his ideal self by stealing aspects of others that he yearns for. He does this in the most brutal style imaginable: carving off parts of their souls and grafting them to his own, allowing him to assimilate things such as their memory, parts of their personality, or, if they are mages, their Circuits. He may also, if the whim takes him, replace a part of his body with one of theirs; his true appearance is presumably a monstrous creature that barely looks human, however he uses his stolen souls to overwrite his body with his victim’s appearance. His theft is not limited to humans; beasts, vampires, elementals, nothing is above his ravenous jealousy.

Endless Masquerade: The sole reason that Briar is able to work the way he does without killing or crippling himself: a Reality Marble that allows for the ability to take everything away from a person as if one took a mask off their face and placed it on one’s own. That he possesses the ability to create one at a surprisingly young age would suggest that its creation was an inborn talent of his that he possessed unbeknownst to everyone, including himself. Its main use being limited to its passive effects that prevent his body and soul from simply dying in their mutilated states. He can use it to switch between stolen forms, changing between them like costumes, each form carrying the abilities of the original. The world within takes the form of a ruined city, wherein countless revellers wearing masks in the fashion of Briar’s victims dance. The revellers are all Briar, and it is only within his world where he can become everything he desired at once. Only within can Briar truly steal everything his victim has, even their identity: the corpses of those who die in the world are impossible to identify.

I'm not even sure I'll be able to finish my only entry. I'm pretty happy with what I've written so far, but suddenly it's like I've completely forgotten how to write.

    Biography
The last member of a once-great family that traced its legacy to the rulers of the Kingdom of Gwynedd, now in its death throes and teetering on the very edge of ruin. The House of Llewellyn had ascended to hold one of the seats among the Lords of the Association for five generations, on account of the line’s traditional proficiency in the wind and water elements, as well as their ties to the mysteries of Cymru. At the height of their power, the Lord of the House was also the head for the Department of Spiritual Evocation, a position he held for the better part of the 18th century. In a twist of fate, it was the issue of his succession that would prove to be the beginning for the family’s downfall.

When Taliesin Llewellyn retired from his position on account of infirmity, having long passed the family’s Magic Crest to his firstborn, the choice of his replacement fell between two young men who were considered to be the foremost prodigies in the field of Spiritual Evocation. Incidentally, both of them hailed from families with ties to Lordhood, held the same elemental alignment, and were already embroiled in a rivalry that had long provided amusement for the gossip mill of the Association’s aristocracy. For Pryderi Llewellyn and Meinhard Archibald, this was merely another elevation of a rivalry that had begun from their childhood.

The House of Archibald was one of the up-and-coming families that had recently hit their stride with exceptionally prodigious heirs, rising to take their place among the old guard, displacing the declining families from the closed circle of aristocracy. But not many families could claim to have the favour and endorsement of the Barthomeloi, and the assignment of Meinhard as head of Eulyphis was a reflection of that patronage. That alone might not have incensed Pryderi so, if the newly appointed Department Head had not taken advantage of his title to secure an arrangement to marry a certain daughter of the Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri; as she had also been the target of his affections since childhood, this perceived insult was the last straw for the hotheaded and prideful Lord. Openly contesting the Eulyphis succession with accusations of favouritism and political scheming, he foolishly brought his will against the absolute authority of the House that was said to rule the Clock Tower even more thoroughly than the Director; and the verdict for that challenge spared no mercy for his audacity.

The Barthomeloi decreed a trial by combat to settle the dispute, citing antique regulations to resolve the insult to their name in the most exemplary manner possible. Unable but also unwilling to back down, Pryderi agreed to terms that he did not fully understand, and met Meinhard in the magecraft duel with fantasies of finally showing his erstwhile schoolmate and perennial rival who the better magus of the two was.

Naturally, the Barthomeloi did not intend to have the duel be anything less than an exhibition of their unchallengeable force. The enemy Lord Llewellyn met was not only armed with his House’s magecraft and creations, but also with an array of powerful Mystic Codes taken directly from the arsenal of the Barthomeloi. Weapons created by the most powerful House in the Association rendered upon Pryderi the full weight of his hubris. The end of the day saw the Llewellyn Crest, with its long centuries of accumulated knowledge and mystery, stripped from his corpse, and the title of Lord conferred from the disgraced lineage to the victorious Archibald.

That was how the end began.

Bereft of their magical legacy and noble title, the Llewellyn struggled to pick up the pieces of their work and reputation largely thanks to the industrious work of Pryderi’s younger sister, but no amount of work could replace the priceless inheritance lost to a moment’s folly, much less make up for the derision that the fallen House was treated with. For the next two centuries, a family in whose blood still pulsed the mystery of aeons past was consigned to the class of commoners, unable to ascend the social ladder of magical aristocracy. Heads held down in brooding acceptance, they slowly built anew a Magic Crest, drawing from the ancestral texts, patents, and relics that had remained in the family’s possession; although those too did not remain theirs for long, as they were pawned or given as a humiliating form of dowry in order to arrange marriages with a bloodline that would ensure their heirs’ circuit quality and magical potential. And what a humiliation it must have been for the erstwhile Lords to be forced to beg families that used to be their inferiors, giving away priceless heirlooms for the third or fourth daughter of a House with barely 5 generations to its name! But even so, the production of an exemplary heir was their only hope, and in this manner they persevered, until the end of the millennium saw the birth of Ceridwen to a family barely hanging on to the few remaining coins of their coffers and the last scraps of their dignity.

To her credit, Ceridwen was an heir the likes of which the family had not seen since before their catastrophic fall from grace. Exhibiting all the desirable traits of a Llewellyn magus, she was seen as the last hope of the House to bring itself to its feet and finally rise from the abyss. All it would take was for her to receive an education at the Association, and earn the credentials that would force the scornful magi to respect her projected genius. Her parents made such plans for their daughter, and put everything they had left into providing her with the tools to succeed in the Clock Tower’s academia both as a student and as the object of ridicule and shame for her fallen lineage. Hired tutors and purchased grimoires entered Llewellyn Manor for the first time in centuries, paid by the two parents abandoning their pride and taking on such occupations as assistants of any random magus that needed a hand around their workshop, or that would part with a wage for the amusement of bossing around the heads of a former noble House. Popular rumour had it that they even engaged in the practice of cash-strapped students and dropouts to sell their bodily fluids and hair; but whatever the case may have been, Ceridwen’s blossoming talents must have made up for the indignity. This was, after all, not an exhibition of any affection for their offspring; it was merely the necessary actions for the House of Llewellyn to be someday restored.

The reconstructed Magic Crest was transferred to the new heir sooner than it was customary, and eventually Ceridwen was admitted to the Department of Individual Fundamentals at the age of 14, planning to hone her craft in the family’s elemental magecraft before taking on the ultimate goal of the Llewellyn, the ever-coveted Eulyphis. For two years she studied there, provided with books and materials that her fallen House could not acquire. Exhibiting the potential of her ancestral blood - the only thing that could not be stripped from the family - it seemed that the long toil of the Llewellyn was finally about to bear fruits.

That was not to come; perhaps by will of fate, but probably because the penance of the old sin was deemed to not have been completed. And despite the whispers of how the Barthomeloi never forget those that slight them, the official story was that Einion and Cerys Llewellyn’s demise was an unfortunate accident that was nevertheless covered by the contract of employment they had signed as assistants to a particularly imaginative Zoologist. With their death, the amassed debt that had accrued in order to provide for their daughter’s education, no longer covered by any guarantee or installment, now called for the immediate repossession of family property, castle included. Just when the Llewellyn had been posed to shake off the inherited shackles of ignominy, the iron rule of the Clock Tower had struck them down once more.

Ceridwen barely had enough warning to salvage the final, most precious of family artifacts before the one bastion of her family’s legacy was finally taken from them as well. But even then, the debt was not fully covered, and she was instructed to willingly surrender the artifact, as well as the reconstructed Llewellyn Crest to the Association’s Repository, or else have them be taken by force. Once again, the toil and knowledge of many generations would be lost in an instant, as if to signify that for all the times they would raise their heads, history would only repeat itself again.

Without a single means to support herself or cover for her tuition, she was faced with the choice of consigning herself as a marriage pawn for some upstart family’s breeding program and tossing her millennium-old name to oblivion, or continuing the struggle of the Llewellyn to survive and rise again, even if it brought the whole of the Association against her.

She cared not if they took her home, for the Llewellyn's home was the whole of Cymru.
She would let them have the Crest, for the Llewellyn's magic ran in their very blood.
But the theft of their greatest Mystic Code, the heirloom that not even in the direst of times any of her ancestors had even considered selling, the material proof of the Llewellyn's pride as magi, was something she would sooner die than allow.

Naturally, it was never a choice. Not for her, and not for any of her ancestors. If the bitter end ever was to come, it would not be by their own resignation.

It should be understood that in the Clock Tower, the Llewellyn are the archetype of a family that overreach their station and foolishly challenge their betters. To have lost their Magic Crest, the crystallisation of a magus family's purpose, and yet persisted in clinging to the vestiges of their former glory only compounded on that fact. Whoever cared enough to spare a thought on them would expect their end to be fittingly ignominious, a disgrace to the very last. That was why - despite the corpses of the magi sent to collect the debt, despite the devastated remains of the Manor, despite the words of mundane witnesses - the Observatory hesitated in issuing a Sealing Designation for Ceridwen Llewellyn. That, after all, is a mark of great honour and recognition, even as one that consigns a magus to permanent imprisonment at best.

But the Dragon-fire that still smouldered amidst the ruins was proof enough. Centuries after Pryderi's folly, the Llewellyn finally won back their prestige.

    Character
As sweet and good-natured as any 16 year-old can be, and also a cynical individual that will unhesitatingly do whatever is required to ensure the survival of her line. With her frilly dress and wide eyes, Ceridwen Llewellyn would rip out a heart or take a bite out of a scone with the same casual yet calculated precision that befits a true magus. Therein lies no contradiction, but the mindset of a magus whose livelihood is at risk set against the psyche of a young girl with an immense weight of responsibility on her shoulders - granted, one that she was trained since birth to bear. In truth, whatever knowledge and skills she has acquired so far in her life were for the specific purpose of operating and succeeding within the academic and social circles of the Clock Tower; in other words, she has known no other purpose but to be the cornerstone for her family's rebirth. Thus, being chased away from it by and into the wide world by the dogs of the Association feels very much like wading into the unknown with no light to guide her...

    Magecraft
    Magecraft

Predominantly based on the manipulation of the Wind element. The Llewellyn magi before the family's fall commanded spells of the Water element and were capable of wondrously precise manipulation of liquids through the combined application of the two, but the loss of the first Magic Crest meant also the loss of that knowledge. Her training cut short, Ceridwen herself is still familiarising herself with the deeper recesses of the repository of accumulated knowledge that is her Crest, and has so far achieved mastery of basic Single Action and some spells with scant few Bars to incant. To reclaim the lost Crest and the knowledge within it is a distant dream, but thaumaturgy of this kind was never the foundation of the family's power.

Sorcery Trait - Morwyn Llyn y Fan

The initial rise of the Llewellyn to power was largely based on their ability to commune with the myriads of Nature Spirits and Phantasmal Beasts that once dotted the hills and plains of the Welsh landscape. That power is derived from their unique ancestry as the descendants of a union between a man and a Morgen, a Nature Spirit of the waters. Although the knowledge of water magecraft was lost along with the first Crest in that disastrous day, within the blood of the Llewellyn still lingers the authority of communing with and evoking the spirits that lie within the borders of what was once their dominion; and also, some other passive effects of that wondrous ancestry.

Notably, the essence of the ancestral water spirit manifests as the passive ability to draw and replenish magical energy by coming in contact with fresh water. Whether it is a lake, a river, a warm bath or shower, or even the moisture of a heavily humid day, magical energy is regenerated to an according degree independently of her own circuits’ replenishment. Being submerged or drenched by it naturally has a greater effect. That way, a sudden rain or a tangle with a magus of the water element can turn the tide of a battle. Additionally, Ceridwen enjoys a high resistance to fire, flames, and the heat of a summer day.

Mystic Code - Ysbrydion y Gwyllt

A small, leather-bound book in remarkably good condition; in actuality a Mystic Code carried in the hands of Llewellyn heirs for so long that its original creator is unclear - the key to their prestigious command over the beasts of Cymru. It is a grimoire in which the mythical creatures that once roamed the West of Britain are documented and rituals to summon them are recorded, in what is considered to be the pinnacle of the art of Summoning. Beings from the Other Side are drawn to this layer of the world, but that is the extent of the Mystic Code's purpose as a summoning tool. What enables Ceridwen to bind them in contracts and command them as familiars is the blood of the Llewellyn - the inalienable authority of their ancestry, and the legacy of the House that once headed the Department of Spiritual Evocation.

Although the summoning requires more preparation and magical energy than a simple spell - depending on what kind of creature is being summoned - as magical beasts the summons are independent familiars that do not require to be supplied with magical energy beyond the initial binding, which is a separate procedure Ceridwen performs through her hereditary authority, and thus remain in the world until they are killed or dismissed.

It is an invaluable tool of battle for one such as Ceridwen, whose arsenal of spells is limited; and above that, the tangible proof of her family's past, and the hope for their future.

    Familiars

    Adar Llwch Gwin

The raptor-like thralls of the faerie queens, best described as huge quadruped birds of prey. Comparable to griffins, but lacking the characteristic prideful demeanour of the continental beast. Summoned in a flock of three at a time, they eagerly obey the commands of their master, with the condition that they will interpret it absolutely literally. As such, great care must be taken in the precise wording of their orders.

Their keen avian vision allows them to scout from a high altitude, concealing themselves despite their size, but their sharp beaks and razor talons are hardly for show.

    Cŵn Annwn

Hounds of the Underworld, whose howls signal the Wild Hunt. Two snow-white dogs with red ears that reside in the faerie realm of Annwn, they lead the hunting procession of King Arawn with their baying calls which signal death, growing softer the closer they are to their prey. Owing to their nature as hunting dogs, they are excellent trackers either by smell or traces of magical energy.

Pretty intimidating, but they love being scratched behind their red ears.

    Afanc

A water monster by any definition. An unholy cross between a beaver and a crocodile with the combined jaw power of both, featuring the abilities to turn invisible and expel venomous spikes along with a tough hide that is magically resistant to a not insignificant degree. Its purpose can be easily divined by the phrase “giant venomous crocodile/beaver hybrid”.

Low petability, but it actually adores Ceridwen, as a reflection of its weakness to maidens.

    Ceffyl Dŵr

Pale horse of the mountain springs. A sentient Phantasmal Beast that is said to have inhabited the lakes and streams of the Welsh landscape, using its shape-shifting abilities for both nefarious and light-hearted purposes. Sporting a pair of wings and magic resistance like its famous Greek cousin, it has a water affinity and can control the element at will. Possesses the ability to dodge attacks by evaporating into mist and condensing back into a solid form. Getting struck by its trampling hooves is not a pleasant experience.

Respectful of the contract with Ceridwen, but actually has a personality capable of both malice and mischief.

    Gwyllgi

The black dog of ill omen that features extensively in the folklore of the British Isles. With fur so black as to blend in with the darkness even on moonlit nights, burning red eyes, and bloodstained fangs through which issues a breath that freezes men in fear, it fits the classic image of the Grim that haunts the lonely paths and crossroads of the countryside. Ceridwen treats it as such, calling upon its deadly strength and speed as it leaps in and out of the shadows to dispatch individual foes. And yet for some reason, she feels that this supposed beast doesn't match up to its ghastly reputation. Sometimes, she even thinks that those blood-red eyes look at her with something like melancholy within them...

...what was it that she had really seen that night so long ago, looking out from the window of her study to the dark hills of her hometown?

    Trwyth

King of the Swine, Trwyth. Even among the infamous beasts that were the bane of heroes such as Diarmuid Ua Duibhne or bore calamities like the Cath Palug, Trwyth stands above them all in dreadfulness. It was the target of a great hunt instigated by Culhwch and carried out by King Arthur and his entourage of knights and allied kings, which went on for many days on end and spanned across the British Isles. Though its brood was slain and the three items embedded in its mane were eventually taken, it claimed the lives of numerous famed heroes but was never slain, which is something few notorious beasts of legend can boast. Naturally, a plunge into the waters would not kill the enchanted beast that crossed the raging Irish Sea.

Equally naturally, it is not terribly thrilled to be under the command of a little girl, but its strong desire to walk the mortal realm again convinces it to tolerate the arrangement... for now. Delicate enquiries as to whether it truly is a human prince that was enchanted into the form of a boar have yet to be dignified with an answer.

    Ddraig Goch

Red Dragon, the incarnation of Cymru itself. In legend, it fought a white dragon that invaded its realm, and both were imprisoned under the earth by a human king through a wise man's cunning. The traditions that entangle the red and white dragons with Kings Vortigern and Arthur and the wizard Merlin are numerous, and so it is up to debate whether the interpretation of Y Ddraig Goch as the embodiment of the native faith of the isle is correct. Even if it's not, it's still one of the Dragonkind, the pinnacle of Phantasmal Beasts. It can only be drawn from the Other Side through a ritual requiring great preparation and aggregation of magical energy, and even that may result in an incomplete summon. Those that survived the assault on Llewellyn Manor spoke of an immense fiery maw crowned by great golden eyes heralding the consuming flame. Binding such a beast as a familiar is, obviously, impossible.

Incidentally, the site where the two dragons were said to be entrapped is known as Dinas Emrys, and on top of it was built a castle by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the last king of Gwynedd. With these ruins as the foundation, shielded from mundane eyes with bounded fields, there stood for centuries Llewellyn Manor.

...can the blood of a mere Nature Spirit, even one connected on a conceptual basis to the Lady of the Lake, alone enable a lineage to command such beasts? Or does that authority also derive from their human ancestry, the Kings that conquered the whole of Cymru and brought it to its greatest glory?

Creator Remarks: Eh, decided to post it. This is an old RP character, refitted to be worthy of Sealing. The original version lost the second Crest, joined the Enforcers to make a living, took a plane to France, and then the RP died. Any inconsistencies with canon are because it was written before Case Files and other relevant MA revelations. I'm also sorry if I murdered your language.

    Name: Belfagor Frynbalahn
Alias/Nickname/Title: The Baron of Beasts (Brand)

    Age: 38
    Height/Weight: 172cm / 78kg
    Birthplace: England
    Appearance:

    Personality
Forte/Likes: The study of Phantasmal Beasts
    Weaknesses/Dislikes: The study of humans
Natural Talents: Taxonomic classification, long-term concentration
    Natural Enemy: Nrvnqsr

    Magical Attributes
    Origin: Anabolism
    Elemental Alignment: Water

    Magic Circuits
    Circuit Quantity: A
    Circuit Quality: B
    Circuit Composition: Tartan

    Character:
The first impression that one usually gets from Belfagor Frynbalahn is that he seems to be a fairly orthodox magus. He is logical, analytical, immoral, and self-confident bordering on prideful. However, he is incredibly reclusive and obsessive regarding his own research even by mage standards. Although he is a professor at the Clock Tower, he rarely ever attends his own lectures, and there are some cases where he tends to lock himself away in his workshop for days or even weeks on end without any human contact whatsoever.

While some people might view his unsociable behavior and assume that he simple hates other people, this is not actually the case. The truth of the matter is that he views humanity as just another animal among millions of different species, a rather uninteresting animal at that. Even mages are simply another breed of Phantasmal Species to him. As Belfagor himself puts it, “what are we compared to the millions and billions that came before us?”

Due to his family’s peculiar form of magecraft, he has developed several quirks in his personality despite his attempts to prevent such things from manifesting. He prefers to eat his food raw, and he sleeps in a pool of cold water. But more than that, those who have spoken with him have reported an aura of dread that emanates from him and saturates the air around him. They say that it is similar to the instinctive feeling that one gets while in the presence of a dangerous beast. While mages can be described as inhuman monsters, Belfagor is a monster in the truest sense of the word: a Phantasmal Beast donning the shell of a man.

    Biography:
The study of Phantasmal Beasts has been the Frynbalahn family’s bread and butter for centuries. Being the most recent heir to the family, Belfagor excelled at his lineage’s practice. Entering into the Clock Tower’s Department of Zoology once he was of age, he quickly made a reputation for his highly sophisticated chimera familiars and his revolutionary classification system for Phantasmal Beasts. Within a few short years, he became a well-regarded professor in the Department of Zoology and achieved the highly esteemed rank of Brand before he was even out of his twenties.

Despite these amazing accomplishments, his true forte was kept undisclosed from the Association. From its inception, the Frynbalahn family had been incorporating the magic circuits from various Phantasmal Beasts into their own magic crest. It has been said that the earliest mages created the first magic crests by transfusing the circuits from various Phantasmal Species into their own bodies in an attempt to gain their unique abilities. As the Age of Gods ended and most Phantasmal Species began to disappear from the world, the Frynbalahn family decided to revive this antiquated practice in the hopes that they might devise a key or code for accessing the reverse side of the world where most Phantasmal Beasts now reside.

Despite their long history, the Frynbalahns had only managed to incorporate a meager few species’ circuits into their crest, and even then they only provided paltry effects that couldn’t even be qualified as spell-like effects. But that soon changed after the birth of Belfagor. Upon implanting their crest into him, Belfagor’s origin of “anabolism” began to take effect causing the bestial circuits within the crest to start maturing and spreading like cilia throughout his body and soul. As time progressed, the abilities granted to him by his crest became more substantial and complex allowing him to achieve feats similar to those found in the Phantasmal Beasts that his crest’s circuits originally belonged to. The Frynbalahns realized that a composition such as this would likely result in a sealing designation, so they all agreed to keep Belfagor’s situation a secret from the Association so that he might be able to pursue the family’s ambitions on his own accord.

Recently, there has been a great deal of activity around Belfagor’s estate that has caused the Association to turn their heads in his direction. Most of his monetary assets have been sold off over the course of a few short weeks, and his family’s entire fortune has been nearly spent. After this, he has spent the better part of several months inside his workshop on a new research project. What the Association doesn’t realize is that his inheritance was spent on the acquisition of only one single item: a fully intact specimen of a young dragon cadaver with the intent to transplant a portion of its core onto his magic crest. It is his hope that, in doing so, he will be able to generate a vast amount of magical energy within his own body and finally break through to the reverse side of the world. If successful, he would not only have the key, but also the raw power to smash his way through even if the key doesn’t work. While transplanting an entire core would be likely to end in failure, Belfagor doesn’t need to do so, he only needs to transplant a small portion of the core and let time and his origin do the rest.

Even if his endeavor turns out to be only partially successful, the grafting of a dragon’s circuits onto his own would almost certainly result in a sealing designation on its own, let alone the innate abilities he already has. Holed up in his workshop, and with Enforcers breathing down the back of his neck, Belfagor is ready to enter the final stages of his design and achieve the grand vision of his predecessors.

    Magecraft Related Abilities:
Belfagor’s particular brand of magecraft primarily stems from the spell-like effects that he has cultivated from the bestial magic circuits within his family’s crest. Despite not being spells in the technical sense, these abilities still require him to undergo the same processes and formulas to actualize them. Despite the Frynbalahn family’s extensive history, they have been able to only acquire the circuits of three noteworthy Phantasmal Beasts, but Belfagor’s unique talents allow him to make the absolute most of them.

    Kelpie:
A Phantasmal Beast from the lakes of the British Isles, the kelpie is a shape-shifting water horse identifiable by its reversed hooves and tangle of seaweed dripping from its mane. The kelpie lures unsuspecting humans onto its back and dives into the nearest body of water to drown and devour its helpless rider. Belfagor’s main advantage derived from this creature’s circuits is a greater than average affinity for water-based magecraft. Apart from his ability to directly manipulate water to form high-pressure bullets or surging waves, he also uses it as the basis for the creation of his chimeras. He first creates a framework or container from one animal, and then he causes the substance of another animal to “flow” into its new container in order to create something entirely new. In addition, he can survive submerged in water for a seemingly indefinite amount of time, and he can compel others to approach him even to their own detriment. Although a mage could easily break free of this compulsion, it is a subtle form of control, and one may not even realize they are under its effect until it’s too late.

    Barghest:
This creature hails from northern England, and takes the form of a massive black dog with burning red eyes. This being is said to be a harbinger of death that leaves an inhuman mark upon its victims. Those whom are marked thus will have a procession of baying hounds follow them until their demise. This Phantasmal Beast’s circuits allow Belfagor to to instill those around him with a deep and persistent fear. Even if the initial effect is washed away with magical energy, the lasting effects will remain etched into the victim’s memory and fill them with dread whenever their thoughts drift to Belfagor leaving them wanting nothing to do with him. Furthermore, upon touching one such afflicted with fear, Belfagor is able to leave a mark etched into their body and soul. The mark brings a curse-like effect which makes him an enemy of all beasts. Any beast that lays eyes on one such marked, be it dog, rat, cat, or mule, will see them as a reviled enemy and will do anything they can to slaughter the marked one unless steps are taken to remove it.

    Unnamed sea creature:
A strange entity found off the coast of Ireland, this Phantasmal Beast was an oddity. It appeared to have a form similar to that of a massive turtle or fish, but it was covered from head to tail in thick bony plates and spines. The Frynbalahn ancestor that discovered it theorized that it might have been a smaller relative of the Aspidochelone or Coinchenn. The endowment that it provides Belfagor is the ability to grow protrusions of dense bone from his own skeleton. Blades, spikes, and armored plates can all be produced from his own body. Such protrusions bear a strong resistance to the effects of magecraft and can be used to defend against incoming hostile spells, disrupt rituals in progress, and penetrate through magical defenses. However, generating too many of these protrusions too quickly costs a ridiculous amount of magical energy and severely weakens his skeletal structure. Since he would rather have his chimeras fight in his stead, Belfagor most frequently uses his bone protrusions as components in the creation of his chimeras thereby granting them similar, albeit weaker, magecraft-interfering properties.

    Mystic Codes/Familiars:
Apart from his assortment of familiars made from mundane animals of nearly every shape and size, Belfagor is renowned for his chimeras which are regarded as living works of art. Among them, three are particularly esteemed.

    Knell Hound:
At a distance, this creature appears to be a large lean hound, but once one sees it up close, they can tell that it is anything but. In place of fur, its body is covered in black feathers, paws are replaced by talons, a fanged beak in place of a muzzle, and a pair of wings are folded at its sides. This chimera was designed for hunting down and exterminating Belfagor’s targets; once it catches a whiff of its mark, it will pursue them with the utmost dedication. The knell hound is a highly resourceful and intelligent creature and is capable of acting with a great degree of independence. It is clever and dexterous enough to use basic tools and open doors. It can outthink and outmaneuver its quarry and even lure them into traps by imitating human speech. It is capable of limited flight and can attack from above by firing off its sharp quills at a distance. When it corners its prey, it prefers to get in close and rend them to death with its teeth and claws. If the tables are turned against it, it will let out a deafening howl to immobilize its attacker before making its escape.

    Natatory Steed:
This chimera appears to a similar shape and proportions as a medium-sized horse but with several key differences. Its mane and tail are actually fleshy protuberances that serve as rudimentary fins. Its skin is a mottled green and covered in a thin layer of mucus. Instead of hooves, each of its legs ends in five padded and webbed fingers. It can run just as fast as any horse of its size and weight, but it is also far more agile. It is capable of making tremendous leaps several stories in height, and it can adhere to even the most precarious of footholds. It can swim just as swiftly as it can run, and can remain underwater without air indefinitely. Whenever it is threatened, it can lash out with its long barbed tongue which is capable of easily penetrating soft fleshy targets. This steed serves as a highly effective mode of transport for Belfagor when haste is more important than subtlety.

    Yellow Hive:
This chimera consists of several dozen separate bodies that constantly share sensory information between them. Each body appears to have a rounded bulbous shape about the size of a cantaloupe with a pair of black compound eyes set at its front end along with several segmented legs and long tendrils that trail beneath it as it languidly floats through the air. Its body is covered with a black and yellow exoskeleton that constantly emits a soft yellow glow with the same intensity as a lantern. Belfagor utilizes these creatures as a living security system for his workshop and are fully capable of apprehending any potential intruders. Although they are usually rather passive and slow in their movements, they are capable of sudden bursts of speed once one of them detects and unwelcome guest. Their first line of action is to cause their glowing bodies to flare up to blind the intruder before grazing them with their tendrils which cause instant paralysis. If the trespasser is to be killed on the spot, they will latch onto the unfortunate victim with their legs before stabbing them repeatedly with their curved retractable stingers at the rear of their bodies. The venom from said stingers is highly corrosive and will quickly and painfully dissolve flesh and internal organs causing death within a minute.

    Creator Remarks:
When I first came up with the concept for this character, I initially wanted to create someone from the Department of Zoology since we haven’t seen any canon characters that specialize in that sort of thing. I thought that chimera creation would be the most obvious thing to do, so in the end, I decided upon a character whose premise was, “what if Kayneth, but with chimeras instead of mercury balls?” Then I started thinking about what I would have to do to make him a sealing-designated magus, and I recalled a mention in the Case Files that said something along the lines of how the first magic crests were made from Phantasmal Species, and it just ran on from there. Please let me know if there is anything that I overlooked that isn’t accurate to the lore so that I can fix it.

I have seen a homunculus cry because she was desperate for her short life and freedom. Two years later, I heard she died due to her master overworked her as a battery, without getting a single thing she want. Now I ask you, how do you feel about it, as a living being?

    Name: Sven McFareed
    Epithet: Scientist, Iron Fist
    Gender: Male
    Height/Weight/Age: 176 cm/62 kg/21
    Birthplace: NYC

    Origin: Moral (actually Contradiction)
Elemental Affinity: Earth and Fire, aka Rock
    Circuit Quantity: A++
    Circuit Quality: C
    Circuit Composition: Bipolar
    Activation Image: Eruption

    Likes: Idealist, traditional American superheroes
    Dislikes: old-school magi, his family
Natural Talents: Single-mindedness, pursue over a single thing, socializing with people
    Natural Enemy: Makiri Zolgen, Roa
    Background
The McFareed, a family that born between the collaboration of American based Mcfury family that specialized at Reinforcement and Arabic based Fareed family that famous for their mastery at Mineralogy. A desperate attempt to produce new result, due to their lack of progress after many generations.

Sven himself was the 3rd heir, showing bright future since a young age and expected to be the man who will bring the family's glory. However, Sven is an oddity. Like most heir, he already recieved extensive education about the world of magi. But he also a very popular person that socialize with everyone regardless of their background. All of this will only bring hardships to his fortunate life.

He learned to gain something, others need to be sacrificed, he agrees. But sacrificing others for the sake of himself is selfish, he knows that.

He is taught to be a magus and should believe only on it, but he noticed that some of its customs are violating morals that dictated by religions and human right.

He learned more and more contradiction, even come to a conclusion that sin and reward are inseparable.

Various events in the past caused him to hate Magi: atrocities, human sacrifices, thieveries and blackmails; he already seen and did them all. But he hates his family the most and blame them for it. However, he knows that simply killing them is wrong, knowing full well doing so will make him the same as them and he is a better person than them. So he found out a good- moral way for revenge.

What if I snatched all of the glory they worked so hard, then snatch them all of it at the midst of its height?

So he worked so hard, succeed the family like expected, becoming a pioneer at Reinforcement and run away with it. That day, where he gets Sealing Designation as the greatest honor of all Magus and the sight of his family desperate attempt to capture him, he laughed so delightfully that he never experienced it before. All of this for the sake of simple hatred.

    What a petty man.

    Character
Sven is a textbook 21st-century young man. He has a strong sense of justice and an idealist for how humanity should be treated, which earn the popularity among his peer, ordinary and Magus alike. Yet, his demeanor can be considered as "rude" for old school Magi, like his father for example. But like what mentioned above, he is a living contradiction, a hypocrite. All of his rambling about moral and yet he still doing "disgusting magi thing" if he see fits. However, he himself can't be blamed for it. Afterall, he unknowingly dictated by the Origin that he don't realize he had until now.

    Magecraft
    Rock magecraft:
Inheriting the McFury and Fareed family's elemental affinity, he specialized at Fire and Earth element, dubbed by them as "Rock element." Juggling between science and magecraft, while making sure that the Mystery of it will not be revealed, earning a mockery title "Scientist." He able to analyze and identify any rocks simply by touching them, including the exact time it created, what happened to it recently and its compositions. A useless magecraft on combat situation, or so it seems.

Zaman Al-Sakhra (Rock Time): The magecraft that earned him a Sealing Designation. A Ten-Count magecraft that simply transform any kind of rocks into a diamond. As simple as it sounds be, the process behind it are quite complex. A rock can't simply turn into diamond, magmas needed to undergoes various environment, condition and the right composition to become diamonds. So turning silicate-based quartz into carbon-based diamond should be, scientifically and magically alike, impossible.

He researched a lot of seemingly unrelated magecraft: like time manipulation performed by the nearly extinct Emiya family, how the Tohsakas and Edelfelt store and shape energy in Jewels and how the Einzbern create humonculi from nothing. The result are a grand scale alterization of the earths, not simply make a rock harder than it should be, but returning it to magmatic state and reshape it into diamond by scratch, accelerating thousand years of formation to a mere minute. If he wanted to be reckless, he could stop chanting at the middle of the process, turning the ground into magma.

Diamond Suit: A Mystic Code that allows him to perform Rock Time as a One-Line Spell on his clothes. Infusing his suits with specifically chosen quartzes, he able to instantly transform them into diamonds, becoming an imperneable cloths that give him an extra force on his punches and kicks. This is allowed due to uniform compositions of said quartzes making him able to consentrate only at turning them into diamonds (normally, the rocks composited with various mineral with different composition). He learned various martial arts, preferably boxing to utilize it effectively.

Due of this, he likes to call himself "Iron Fist" based on the superhero with the same name. Of course, no one calls him that way seriously and repeatedly remind him that 1) his power is diamond, not iron 2) not only his fist become hard, but his entire body. He ended up liking it and name the Mystic Code as Diamond Suit instead. Oh, but his hero name is still Iron Fist.

Creator Remark: I'm bad at self-commenting, but its origins come from a now-somewhat-dead-RP, which in turn based on the main character whenever I fantasize about my own version of HGW. He is a textbook "write something you know" and become a little bit self-insert, with his mixed Western-Asian blood, rock based magic and everything. The magus hating magus thing was created before I started to read Haruri from Strange Fake, so naturally I like her. I'm trying to create super flawed character that either the fandom (think if it's an official work) will hate him or love him, because that's my own view of realism.

Also sorry to any Arabic speaking person here, I butchered your language.

    Magic Circuits
    Circuit Quantity: D
    Circuit Quality: D
    Circuit Composition: Elevation

Character: Described a ‘Quiet’ and ‘Intense’ by those who have encountered him in the last few years, however he was not always a man who seemed to only have determined one course for himself. He was once talkative and social, a man who would talk your ear off with his interests and would listen to you talk about your own interests for hours on end.
The idea that he is quiet or intense is not the entire truth of his personality, due to his magecraft, his neurochemistry and such is constantly in flux so he may seem quiet and intense to those in the public eye he is more described as having wild mood swings depending on the day.
However one thing does not change : His burning hatred of most magi and his unwillingness to accept them as anything but “Remnants of blue blood nobles who are too arrogant to accept anything but their own precious supremacy and worldview”

Biography: Charles was not aware that his own family was anything but ‘well off’ as some would call it, in truth he was the first born son to a magi family who was not considered ‘up to standards’ due to his circuit amount as well as quality being too low and was thus given to members of his extended family who barely practiced magecraft and lived ‘civilian’ lives in exchange for some support in the monetary sense, the ‘true’ parents simply tried again and had a ‘satisfactory’ child to be their successor.
A man who lived a ‘normal’ life and got a biology degree at a local university.
He thought his adopted parents were his own and that his biological parents were just eccentric distant cousins he had seen maybe twice in his life.
Of course that facade fell once he got too nosey and investigated his own birth and the subsequent documentation, the doctors and nurses mentioned in his various birth documents did not exist when he checked with the hospital that he was allegedly born in.

Of course it really went to hell when he found various grimoires that his family were storing for his biological parents and got into his head that his parents were into a cult.
Of course he forced a confrontation with his adopted family which led to him them being forced to try and hypnotise him, however it didn’t end there : since they barely practiced magecraft in the first place it didn’t work on him fully due to him having a very small resistance to magecraft due to his ‘pedigree’ and his origin.
His mind was muddled but did not fully forget the knowledge or events, he was simply lulled into unconscious.
Of course his ‘parents’ were panicking and quickly contacted his biological parents to ask what to do or to get involved.
    They really shouldn’t have.
His adoptive parents underestimated the cruelty of his parent’s magi mindset and quickly took him and the parents themselves with far stronger hypnotism to their estate to be used as ‘materials’ in there magecraft, a fate which did occur to his adoptive parents.
However in the process of seeing how to use their own son they came across a irregularity that could not be ignored.
His circuit number and quality was higher than at his birth .
The number of circuits he had at birth were the abysmal five compared to his parents twenty and above had shifted to seven and his circuit quality had changed from the abysmal quality that could be quantified at E too a more simple D rank.
Of course this irregularity could not be ignored and thus they shelved using their own child for materials and took the more ‘ethical’ approach and simply kept him in a cell in the estate while checking on everything in his body : Blood, Bone, Skin, everything was checked, tested and checked again and they came to the conclusion that his origin plus the land that they live in had caused his origin to ‘improve’ his own circuits incredibly slowly over time.
However this boon would be invaluable to any magi lineage and they knew he would recieve a sealing designation despite the lack of magecraft training so they kept him secret.
    Secret but alive.
However they were hasty with applying the various materials taken from him into themselves, flaunting typical magi caution they used it on themselves too quickly, which proved to be a fatal mistake.
His origin ‘Improved’ only the physical parts of their body but in a way that was extremely detrimental to their own health.
Cancers all over the body, parts of the body growing at different rates, circuits being grown but malformed that proved to be a detriment than a boon.
They died within a week of taking the formula to grow circuits from massive disruption to the body on the physical and spiritual level.
The second son of the family finally came into to check after no communication came back from his parents, you see the second son was receiving education from clock tower at this time and came upon his own parents corpses, however he did not grieve to a level expected of a normal human.
He already had the crest fully transplanted into him and quickly took scope of the situation and simply saw it as his parents stupidity that killed them, he quickly took up his parents research and started trying to refine the formula to get a proper way to grow circuits without death.
Charles was stuck in his cell for over a year and simmered in his own despair and rage.
However as time went on his sibling needed test subjects that had circuits and he did not want to risk his ‘source’ so to speak so he simply kidnapped amatuer magi who could not defend themselves against his ‘superior’ magecraft.
Charles saw quite a few magi go through the estate that died due to the testing, internal bleeding that quickly went external, just seeming to die overnight, having a seizure and many more causes of death as time went by.
However Charles sibling was arrogant, he assumed his brother would not be able to learn magecraft or even do anything to escape due to the bounded fields and just simple iron doors and bars.
However anger can do a lot of things to a man, he listened and talked to the magi before they died, he did not learn magecraft from them as like many magi they were tight lipped, however they were still willing to help him in his plan to escape.
As a man of science he understood many things about basic chemistry and started to use the common things given to him to keep him healthy and alive and started using them to create weapons and poison, apple seeds do contain cyanide after all.
After enough seeds had been gathered a fellow prisoner knew enough magecraft related to poisons to concentrate it, using a simple bit of metal he had managed to get and sharpen he applied it to the blade and waited for the next time he would be ‘farmed’, that required his brother to get close to get the blood.
One stab was all he needed, he didn’t even need the poison in the end, just a stab to the spine and he was dead.
At the point of his brothers death he had been in the cell for two years and five months, he tried to salvage his life but he was already declared legally dead and no one else was in the mansion so he did the only thing that would make him feel safe again.
    Learn magecraft
So that was what he did for at least a few months, he had learned some basics until the clock tower for interested as to why this moderately influential family had gone completely quiet.
It all snowballed from there as they got access to the notes his ‘family’ had and learnt what his body was capable of.
So he quickly got a sealing designation placed on him (He had learnt enough magi terms in the time between then to worry.) and had to go on the run and he has been running for over 5 years now.

    Magecraft Related Abilities:

Improvement : A huge boon but also a curse in his eyes, His origin is strongly expressed however it is not on the level of overriding his elemental alignment, If not for the rich land that has been touched by magecraft and the history of those who would eventually be legendary spirits it would not have the given effect that he has a sealing designation for. His origin gives his body or soul the ability to create more permanent circuits over time however at a extremely slow rate, he only grew two circuits by the time he was twenty five but to a magi who have vision and goals measured in the century or millennia it would be a boon unlike any other.
Another effect of his origin is the fact that his elemental alignment under a mix of eastern and western alchemy has the caveat of Improvement to it, what this means is that his magecraft will not function under the circumstances of ‘destruction , Only creation or modification is allowed under his elemental alignment.

Reinforcement : His origin of Improvement lends itself massively to the magecraft of reinforcement, However he cannot reinforce his strength due to it being rather incompatible with his modifications.

Alchemy: His alchemy is a mix of eastern and western alchemy hence why his elemental alignment is metal unlike the standard four, however unlike most magi who use it to change material composition or control phenomena he mostly uses it to modify himself.

Antimon - His primary ‘bread and butter’ magecraft.
The metal antimony represents the animal nature or wild spirit of man. In this case Charles uses the metal to modify himself greatly with animal traits and it is also his primary magecraft, at this point he may outwardly just look off but if one looks at his DNA or his internals he would probably be not considered human under normal classifications. However his magecraft has caused him to become unstable due to his neuro chemistry constantly changing, mood swings are common at this point and his personality has degraded to the point where he has lost many of his interests.

Electrical sense - The ability to sense electrical fields of living things is found in many species of animals such as sharks, the platypus and even some species of rays. However it is massively boosted when he uses reinforcement to the point where he can normally only use it to see a few meters away in the dark to the point where he can sense someone at least 20 meters away , however this was more of a minor side project while on a path to obtain a offensive ability.

Electric shock - The ability found in the famous electrical eel which at certain sizes has the ability to deliver a shock of 600 volts, however when put under his level of reinforcement it can cause strokes, heart attacks and even light the underprepared on fire.

Insect muscles : Probably the most ‘useful’ in most situations, he has increased his strength to the level of an executor by applying the muscle ability of insects to himself, however he considers this a ‘failure’ due to it not truly being to scale of what a insect is capable of at their own size, however he tries not to use reinforcement to a truly high level on his muscles as he is worried it would tear himself apart.

Chitin shell : The modification that took the longest to incorporate into himself, A shell of chitin which is the material of insect exoskeletons gives him much greater protection in combat, however to use it properly it has to come bursting out from under his skin which as expected causes a large amount of pain, when it is not in ‘use’ it mostly protects his ribcage area.
Also the reason why he weighs so much with his thin frame.

Circuit formula : If a ‘average’ magi tried to use Charles blood or other materials from him to grow themselves more circuits as many would they would probably die due to many biological afflictions quickly occurring in their own body due to his origin sporadically ‘improving’ only certain things which would cause random cells to become rapidly expanding cancerous cells or causing the lungs to poison the body with oxygen due to taking too much in at once.
To truly allow others to take his body and allow themselves to ‘improve’ without dying required multiple years of research and many dead or cancerous cell cultures.
The actual fluid or ‘formula’ as he calls it is a mix of many different biological substance derived or grown from his own body mixed with many alchemical concepts such as the soul being made of the fifth element and parts of Jungian philosophy that involved itself in alchemy.

    Mystic Codes/Familiars:

‘Warlocks mold’ : Not really a familiar or a mystic code however it is a life form so it fits under this category, named as a reference to a specific object from a book he had got the idea from.
In essence it is a mold that eats the mana in the air to grow, It cannot grow without the mana and as more of it grows it naturally needs more and more mana till it has ruined the mana in the area, mainly designed for more long term warfare against a heavily entrenched group of magi than anything else.

Nosoi Prions : What Charles regard as ‘the most dangerous thing I have made’, Prions boosted with magecraft relating to the concept of ‘Nosoi’ : greek spirits of disease, unlike regular prions which can hide in a body for years (hence why people in England cannot give blood in other countries) these ones will very quickly cause mental degeneration within the host, and even harder to kill than regular prions due to magecraft makes them incredibly dangerous to anyone, with the speed that they work they could quickly cause an epidemic. Charles only made these as a last resort to use if they get close to capturing him.

    Non-Magecraft Abilities:

Biology : Before he got involved within the world of magecraft he was a simple biologist, he had a degree but was not the best in his group, simply adequate.
However his degree gives him many idea’s on how to use nature's gifts on him to make him stronger.

Creator Remarks: I thank ‘You’ for helping me with checking with him for lore and such.

Yes his name and birthplace are references to Charles Darwin and finally the mold is a refrence to the warlocks wheel from ‘The magic goes away’
If theirs mistakes in certain bits, please tell me as a lot of it was made over a few days with new ideas streaming through constantly.
With the way the keep adding shit to gils vault, soon he will have the root in it.

Life is short, we don't need to shitpost at eachother about nasu.

“So beautiful a countenance I scarcely ever saw--his teeth so many stationary smiles--his eyes the open portals of the sun--things of light and for light--and his forehead so ample and yet so flexible, passing from marble smoothness into a hundred wreaths and lines and dimples, correspondent to the feelings and sentiments he is uttering.”
    - Samuel Taylor Coleridge

    Name: Count Maddalo
    Alias: The Faustian Philosopher
    Age: Unknown
    Birthplace: London, England

    Forte: Art
    Weaknesses: A fair lad/lady
Likes: Passionate people, quiet gatherings with close friends
    Dislikes: Presumptuous people, critics
    Natural Enemy: Charles Babbage

    Origin: Defiance
    Elemental Alignment: Wind/Fire
    Circuit Quantity: B
    Circuit Quality: C
    Circuit Composition: Normal

    Personality:
“I am such a strange mélange of good and evil that it would be difficult to describe me.”

A hedonist in the utmost extent. He is a man seeking the excess in life, endlessly pursuing pleasure in all forms. Partying, travelling, the arts; anything which brings him happiness is to be sought, and the rest ignored. While he does enjoy his share of superficial amusements, his most valued form of pleasure is actually that of companionship: be it a firm bond between friends or a burning union between lovers, he cherishes the relationships he makes above all else. In this sense, he has a certain fondness for humanity.

A man of words, he is capable of bringing laughter to a gathering and intoxicating men and women alike under his spell. Those who enjoy his company will find him a friend unlike any other, and those who do not will find him detestable to the greatest degree; there is little middle ground. Similarly, you will find the same strength of emotion from him: he loves fiercely, and hates violently.

This dualist nature can be seen in every fiber of his character. He is gentle, but capable of intense hatred. Compassionate, though in the same vein, lacking in certain morals. Cheerful, yet prone to streaks of intense gloom. Although possessing the air of a dignified noble, he is actually nothing more than a hot-blooded thrill-seeker, grasping onto whatever impulse he feels in the moment and experiencing it in the full. As one of his former lovers determined, he is “mad, bad and dangerous to know.”

To put it simply: if ever there was an emotion to describe him, it would be passion. In all things, he is passionate.

    Background:
A notorious magus who has been granted the greatest honor of the Association, having been marked for a Sealing Designation because of his magecraft ‘Revelations of the Muses’. Little is widely known of his lineage, but he possesses no heirs or ancestral land, and is reported to have lived hundreds of years. Because he rarely stays in one place for too long, the Association has been hunting him around the world for nearly two centuries.

‘Count Maddalo’ is only one of many names he has taken over the years, however. Some in the Association know him under a different name: Lord Byron, the famed English poet and one of the leading figures of the Romantic period. During his time, his works ignited a fire throughout Europe and beyond, inspiring many great minds. To the world at large, the passion found in his character was unrivalled, and in many ways he was a perfect representation of the values behind the Romantic movement.

In contrast to his public popularity, however, the Byron family had been but a minor lineage in the grand scheme of Clock Tower, specializing in a mock form of clairvoyance. Lord Byron himself, while possessing great talent, cared little for the idea of a traditional magus. For him, magecraft was nothing more than a way to expression his passions, no different than any other pleasurable pastime. This disposition (and a few illicit affairs) eventually resulted in him causing quite a stir in the political circles of the Association, forcing him to leave England altogether.

After the events of Clock Tower, he mostly set aside the world of magecraft, focusing on more mundane pleasures. The rest of his life as Lord Byron was spent travelling the world, writing poetry, and leaving a lasting impression on all those he met. He continued to dare the world with a passion unlike any other, taking two breathes every time he inhaled as if to make up for those who could no longer take any. And ultimately, in the midst of the Greek War of Independence, he met his end.

    Or so it was believed.

During those final days in Greece, when he had been overcome with sickness and saw a cloud of death looming over him, he had come to a realization: he was afraid. Were he to die, life -- humanity -- would undoubtedly go on without him, giving birth to more wondrous people with more wonderous ideas. And doomed to whatever form of existence laid ahead, he would forever be unable to experience those wonders for himself. What purpose would there be to it all, then? Was he truly to die, only having ever tasted a small drop of humanity’s potential?

No, he decided. He was not ready to die. He had not seen everything there as to see; he had not experienced all there was to experience. He would not -- could not -- let himself be taken away like this. Not yet.

Be it through sheer determination or some miracle, Lord Byron survived. However, rather than being relieved, the fear still crippled him. He knew he could not rest until he made absolutely certain something like that would never occur again. Letting the world believe the man known as ‘Lord Byron’ was dead, he begun down a long, long path, one which many had taken before. It had been attempted by magi, with varying degrees of success, a thousand times over. But he had never been a magi, not truly. From the moment he entered this world, he had always been an artist.

For all of humanity’s achievements, the concept of immortality was still something far out of its reach. Since time immemorial, even the greatest triumphs of humanity met their end eventually. The most legendary of heroes still died; the grandest of civilizations still fell; the most influential of cultures still eventually disappeared.

    Yet art remained.

Where the hero of Achilles fell, where the city of Troy crumbled, where the Achaeans and Trojans faded away, the Iliad remained. It remained, allowing the people of tomorrow to gaze into its window and understand the events and people of the past. It remained, giving us insight into the mind of Homer, regardless of the thousands of years separating him and his audience.

The histories, the writings, the sculptures, the paintings, the dialogues. These were the crowning achievements of humanity, reaching a level no legendary hero or civilization could achieve alone. Without their wonder, the world of yesterday would be forever inaccessible, and it is only through their lens that we capable of feeling a form of emotion that transcends time.

Art cannot exist without an artist, and never has there existed an artist that can create something without leaving behind a part of themselves in their work. In essence, art is a reflection of its creator: a vessel forged to immortalize the ideas and emotions of the greatest minds of humanity.

The man once known as Lord Byron sought to challenge this to its limits. He would mold the perfect vessel: a piece of art capable of reflecting the soul of its creator, not only partially, but in their entirety.

He created: not only with his own field of poetry, but in all branches: prose, theatre, music, dance, painting; anything that might be considered art could potentially hold the key he was seeking. It mattered not if he had ever dabbled in the medium before, for lack of experience was an insignificant obstacle in the mind of a true artist.

He recreated: the greatest of humanity were his predecessors, and he knew he had to surpass even them if he were to succeed. If art held a portion of its creator’s soul, then recreating these masterpieces in their perfection was akin to recreating the artist.

As Lord Byron, people thought him a genius, equipped with the fervour to accomplish anything. But this was something else entirely; he would not find the right inspiration for a task of this magnitude so easily. Only the divine Muses -- the famed goddesses of creativity; the mothers of all artists -- could implant the inspiration for a work meant to symbolize true immortality. For this, he even ventured to Parnassus, hoping to invoke them for one final creation.

It is unknown what he found there, at the home of all art. But in the end, after his tireless journey, he succeeded in creating his ideal: a self-portrait, perfect in its appearance, reflecting his own existence absolutely. A creation fit to immortalize its creator, making him immune to not only aging and sickness, but even death itself.

Had he only stopped there, he might have been able to live as he desired, seeking out the many pleasures of the world for the rest of human history. But his was a passion comparable to no other, and his heart one that never allowed itself to be empty for long.

During his years in solitude, he witnessed many losing their lives just as he almost had. People with great talent, dying pitiful deaths not appropriate for the beauty that was humanity. Motivated by this, he developed his abilities above and beyond, allowing him the capability to recreate his efforts for the soul of another. As long as he understood someone in their entirety, even if they did not necessarily possess the blood of a magus, he was now able to give them the bargain with the greatest of benefits: the gift of immortality.

When the Association learned what he was capable of, he was awarded accordingly with a title of the greatest honor. In recent generations, his notoriety has spread throughout certain magi circles, attracting the attention of many desperate families seeking his aid. It is unknown how many have joined him in his solitude, but according to records it seems some of the first persons chosen were those closest to him, including Mary Shelley; his daughter, Ada Lovelace; and a certain Oscar Wilde. However, by all reports the three declined his proposition.

Recently, he has been spotted at the site of many of the subspecies Holy Grail Wars occurring around the world. It is uncertain why he has taken such a fancy with these rituals, but were you to ask him he would likely only say it was just another amusing diversion.

In this generation, he goes by the name of ‘Count Maddalo’ in respect to one of his most trusted companions, Percy Bysshe Shelley.

    Magecraft:

    Projection of the North Wind
    Hyperborean Prophecy

The magecraft of the Byron lineage. A form of prophecy through self-hypnosis; a projection onto the soul. By bringing the world unto their self and examining the natural order of things, the Byron lineage was capable of limited foresight. It was thought that by discarding the concept of ‘self’, they could become one with the World and eventually be able to foresee a direct path to the Root.

Its origins lay in the ancient Greek legends of Hyperborea, the land “Beyond the North Wind” where people lived in complete happiness, immune to sickness and aging. In these lands, ancient healers of the soul were said to have divined future events through the study of the entrails of dead animals.

Forcing one’s soul to reflect the wonders of the world was a great burden, and so it was a magecraft requiring a strong mental fortitude. For this reason, the Byron line had a long history of madness. Count Maddalo lost both his uncle and father to this insanity, and at one point almost succumbed to it himself.

However, when he cast off the name of “Byron”, so too did he abandon his family’s research. Although still possessing most of his line’s Magic Crest, he rarely makes use of it, and has instead refitted it for his own purposes.

    Revelations of the Muses
The culmination of Count Maddalo’s research, and the basis for his Mystic Code,
    Bargain of Mephistopheles
    The Portrait of a Romantic
. Throughout history, artists of all backgrounds have called upon the goddesses of inspiration to help give birth to the greatest of creations. This is the pinnacle of that concept; the ultimate invocation of the Muses, channeling the inspiration needed to create a work capable of surpassing humanity.

With the aid of Parnassus, he has manipulated his family’s efforts into a magecraft that is also capable of “projecting the self onto the world”. Used on another living creature, it is equivalent to that of a form of Suggestion which affects both parties, allowing him to incite another’s emotions to reflect his own, both consciously and subconsciously. One might compare it to the bond shared between an artist and their audience, the invisible wave of emotion capable of influencing generations.

However, it is also usable on non-living things. In this case, it would be more comparable to an artist leaving something of themselves behind in their work.

The combination of these two capabilities is what forced the attention of the Association. Using them as a basis, he can forge Mystic Codes with the capacity to immortalize one’s soul, not only for himself, but also for others. The only requirement for this is that they must open themselves up to him in their entirety.

    Assorted Magecrafts
During his time at Clock Tower, Count Maddalo was a devoted student to the Faculty of Creation, and had he stayed there he might have risen to become one of the faculty’s most famed geniuses. Due to his disposition, he also spent much time experimenting in a wide variety of fields, including Alchemy, Familiar Creation, and European Curses.

He also has a fair amount of knowledge related to Dead Apostles. However, this is due to an extreme distaste of their kind rather than any sort of preference.

    Mystic Codes:

    Bargain of Mephistopheles
    The Portrait of a Romantic

A self-portrait painted by Count Maddalo using both his talents as an artist and skill as a magi. It is his Magnum Opus, the efforts of his life summed up into one creation. It bears a striking similarity to a portrait from a certain 19th century novel.

“Oh, sweet Oscar… you were a fine man, to be sure. But so, so terribly naive.”

Visually, it appears to be nothing more than a painting showing Count Maddalo’s appealing face and elegant figure. However, in truth, it is a piece of art standing as a complete representation of the artist. It is the ideal he strove for vigorously: a creation that reflects its creator’s soul not only partially, but in absolute entirety. Beautiful and unchanging, it will forever immortalize its creator until the end of human history.

Although it may appear to share traits with The Third Magic, it is important to note that it is only a reflection, rather than a materialization. Like many previous attempts at prolonging life, even it is not without its downsides. Over the years, it seems that Count Maddalo has slowly begun to lose all feeling in his body. His sense of taste and touch have numbed considerably, and even mentally the pleasures he once found so enjoyable have begun to lose their luster.

For a man who once claimed “the great art of life is sensation, to feel that we exist, even in pain,” this can only be the cruelest of fates.

    Creator Remarks:
I’m not entirely satisfied, as I had to rush quite a bit. Unfortunately, I have no excuses if I butchered our language. Also I hate my FC (he looks too young) but I couldn't find anything with the same vibe.

    But at least it’s finished.

Lord Byron being a magus is quite a natural fit given what we know of magi culture, and I thought something that represented his legendary passion was most appropriate. Him being the basis for Dorian Gray in the Nasuverse has always been an idea I liked to think about. Dorian Gray shares many traits of a Byronic hero, which Byron essentially defined as an archetype through his writings and his own persona.

The Byronic hero presents an idealised, but flawed character whose attributes include: great talent; great passion; a distaste for society and social institutions; a lack of respect for rank and privilege (although possessing both); being thwarted in love by social constraint or death; rebellion; exile; an unsavory secret past; arrogance; overconfidence or lack of foresight; and, ultimately, a self-destructive manner. These types of characters have since become ubiquitous in literature and politics.
I tried to be as faithful to his image as possible (using many sources, like his own letters), while still translating him into a proper Nasuverse character. It was fun appropriating minor details, such as the anecdote of a meeting between Mary Shelley and a man claiming to be Lord Byron’s son, years after his death:

Mary Shelley bought some letters written by herself and Percy Bysshe Shelley from a man calling himself G. Byron and posing as the illegitimate son of the late Lord Byron.

Originally, I had planned this character for a sub-species Grail War fic. I doubt I’ll ever get around to writing it now, but he would essentially serve as a rival character for one of the protagonists. Throughout the story, he’d judge the protagonist while filling the role of an ‘unlikely ally’, and would gradually attempt to sway him into accepting his philosophy on life. He would be unsuccessful, however, and would eventually join the side of the primary antagonist until meeting a melancholic end. In essence, it would be somewhat like the relationship between Kirei and Shirou in Heaven’s Feel.

Maddalo: This is incredibly creative and cool. Definitely one of my favorites in this thread, alongside Rafflesiac's Virgil Chaucer. And how interesting that two of the best (IMO) Mages here happen to be themed after poets?

    Oh right, voting's open now.

3 points to Sesto's Count Maddalo. I don't remember much of The Picture of Dorian Gray back when I read it, but the image of eternal life and beauty sticking to a fragile painting still sticks with me. I like the Count as a reflection on immortality, why some people can't come to terms with not being able to do and see everything that they want to, and how eternity whittles away the value of everything in the end. Also he sounds fascinating like he'd be fascinating to read about in a story.

2 points to Left's Ceridwen Llewellyn. I really enjoyed reading about her family's fall and the pride that couldn't be abandoned. Also the details on all of the various summons (Natsume Yuujinchou?). I like how they have various cute reactions to her.

1 point to Asterism's Briar Alisette. Wonderfully creepy Reality Marble; reminds me a bit of Koh the Face-Stealer from A:TLA.

There are some really good ones here. It was difficult to decide who to give my points to.

3 points: Virgil Chaucer. This guy really feels like the culmination of thousands of years of work to form a uniquely specific yet versatile magecraft. I also like how his abilities affect his personality to make him a cynical yet hopeful individual.

2 points: Charles Allerton. I enjoyed reading about this guy's backstory. It honestly seems like you could write an entire novel around it, and I would gladly read it.

1 point: Count Maddalo. I like how the "Dorian Grey" premise was reworked into a magus ability, and I appreciate how it was clearly made distinct from the Third Magic. I'm not sure that he had to be theenLord Byron, he could have been just another mage, and I would have been fine with it.

Of particular note, I think that these three are the most deserving of a Sealing Designation. They are more than just "OP mages", the traits that make them that way are both unique and inherent to them rather than being just learned through study.

3 points to Maddalo. I really like Bryon (partially because we share birthdays, partially because my crush in middle school had a Thing for him) so to see him expanded on like this is a treat. I'm not exactly sure what his family magecraft does, but that's a minor quibble, especially since he apparently isn't inclined to use it himself.

2 points to Chaucer. Name's a bit too on the nose for me, but I do like the rest. It's a fairly close race between this one and Maddalo for me, but in the end this one lost out because I've acquired a bit of distaste for overpowered Mystic Eyes, no matter how wellwritten. It's not you, it's me.

1 point to Belfagor. I don't really like the name, not just because I giggled at it containing fag, but also I associate Bel- with demons rather than magic and its users. His magecraft is varied and interesting, though, and I like the numerous mythical allusions. I suppose there's some similarities with Ceridwen in that they both focus on critters, but this one won out because Belfagor's personality quirks appeal to me more.
