Puss-In-Boots: Frick, just when I'd pretty much gotten down who to vote for then you come along with this ridiculously awesome Servant. Quit making things so hard on me, dang it! Seriously though, very cool and creative stuff. I really like the original Skills, and his NP is simple but effective and fitting to his legend. It also reminds me a little of the NP I gave William of Ockham (of all things), with the whole "revealing the best course of action" idea.

    Spoiler:

    Angantýr Arngrímsson

    Class: Saber
    Alignment: Neutral Evil

    Parameters:
    STR: B+ (C)
    END: B+ (C)
    AGI: C+ (D)
    MGI: D
    LCK: E

    Background

The eldest son of Arngrím the berserker, and the first of three figures entwined in the legends of the cursed sword Tyrfing to bear this name. Heading a band of warriors consisting of himself and his eleven brothers, Angantýr carved his way to a bloody reputation as an undefeated berserkr that had kings all across the land scrambling to acquire the brothers' services - and to acquiesce to their demands. That is, until a certain king of Sweden hesitated to give his cherished daughter away as a bride to Angantýr's brother, setting in motion a series of events that would bring Tyrfing to Angantýr's hands, and Angantýr to his finest hour in a duel that would go down in legend. It is all he can hope for in the Holy Grail War to fight well and surpass that feat, as his one true wish - surviving that final duel and living just a little longer - is sadly unattainable.

    Class Skills

    Magic Resistance: D

Protection against magical effects. At this rank, Single-Action spells are cancelled. As Saber in life saw only the lesser runes from an era after the Age of the Gods and had no means of resisting thaumaturgy on his own, this skill is conferred almost entirely by the Saber-class container.

    Personal Skills

    Berserk: B-

A skill that encapsulates the concept of the berserkir, the Norse champions that entered a battle-trance and fought with such relentless ferocity that history recorded them as the archetype of the mad warrior, and indeed gave their name to one of the Servant system's classes. Angantýr was the leader of a berserker band of brothers, who won fame - rather, infamy - all across Scandinavia for fighting many battles on their own and always emerging victorious, and as such he is an obvious candidate for this skill.

In effect a composite of Bravery and Mad Enhancement, but its effectiveness is blunted within a Saber-class container as opposed to the Berserker class, its natural fit. Thus, while the descending red haze of battle-rage negates mental interference, increases melee damage, and confers a bonus to physical parameters for a given number of turns, the end of this trance finds Saber physically spent, reducing those parameters by a full rank for the remainder of the battle.

    Battle Continuation: B

The ability to keep fighting even after the body has sustained terrible wounds. Even on the verge of death, the end may be staved off temporarily until either the foe is defeated or Saber's life is decisively extinguished. Whether it was their natural tenacity or the intoxication of battle numbing them even to their own mortality, one of the most fearsome traits of the berserkir was their ability to stand tall and fight long after their bodies should have broken down, bearing wounds that would kill any ordinary man many times over.

    Dream-teller: C+

Revelation of future events through prophetic dreams. At this rank, Saber may glimpse into the near future while in a resting state, although the true meaning is obfuscated by symbolism. Rarely, a clearer vision farther into the future may be revealed to him on the subject of the fate of someone he is close to. Saber saw an allegorical vision of his own demise shortly before it occured, and peered deep enough into his daughter's future to witness the deeds of her descendants - and yet there are vague and ominous things flickering at the edge of his perception that he is much more fearful of...

    Noble Phantasm

    "Wounds have I sixteen,
    slit is my corslet,
    sight is darkened,
    I see not my way;
    to my heart pierced me,
    poison-hardened,
    Angantýr's blade—
    bitter the point was."

    Tyrfing
    Twice-sheathed Death-iron

    Type: Anti-Unit
    Rank: A
    Range: 1
    Targets: 1

Description: A black blade smithed from meteoric iron and inlaid with gold, its beauty marred by a palpable aura of malice. Perhaps the most notorious cursed sword of Norse mythology, Tyrfing was forged by the dwarves Durin and Dvalin under the shackles of spells and the threat of death, and though their creation was a wondrous weapon capable of splitting shield, armor, and stone like so much cloth, the curses they laid upon it as retribution turned it into a harbinger of certain woe. If it is drawn, Tyrfing cannot be sheathed if it does not first claim a man's life; if it draws a wound, the wound will never heal unless the curse is overpowered. These are but two of the dreadful maledictions that this sword bears.

As a Noble Phantasm, Tyrfing is a representation of the most famous episode of Saber's life: his fateful duel with the Swedish champion Hjálmar on the island of Sámsey. Though Saber met his end there, he also dealt the hitherto unvanquished Hjálmar sixteen wounds with his cursed blade, and with them his first and mortal defeat. To reflect this, each and every wound caused by Tyrfing, from the tiniest scrape to the bloodiest gash, is contaminated by a poison-like curse that prevents it from healing unless the curse is overpowered, or Tyrfing is somehow destroyed. This condition cannot be reset by skills such as Disengage, and so wounds carry over even after the battle with Saber is concluded.

Yet, these are all functions inherent to the blade. The true effect of this Noble Phantasm can only be brought forth in a specific circumstance. Once Tyrfing has scored sixteen wounds on a foe, and while Saber has sustained injuries that will soon prove mortal, invoking its name inflicts upon the foe a check of instant death. A faithful recreation of Saber's last stand that will leave him on death's doorstep, though the power to alter this preordained outcome lies in his Master's hand.

    Hervör Angantýsdóttir

    Class: Saber
    Alignment: Chaotic Evil

    Parameters:
    STR: C
    END: C
    AGI: D
    MGI: B
    LCK: B

    Background

The posthumous daughter of Angantýr I, raised in ignorance of her father's name and deeds. She showed her aptitude for the war-arts from an early age and was quick to follow her burning ambitions, fighting and pillaging under a male name and guise with a blade in hand while other girls her age worked the needle and the thread. When she learned of her father's identity, and of the blade Tyrfing that lay with him in death, she at once departed for the tombs of her kinsmen, eager to claim the treasure that she thought was her birthright. Heedless of danger and revelling in violence, she walked undaunted into the otherworldly fires of the barrows and dared to raise the dead, threatening them with eternal unrest if they would not surrender her prize. Even when she had her fill of battle-glory and settled for the throne and title of queen, Hervör remained the same as when she laughed off the warnings of her father's wraith about the curse of ruin that Tyrfing would wreak upon her descendants. A woman that cared only for herself and for the fulfilment of her desires without a thought for another sets her eyes on the one treasure that can grant them all, and she would hardly care for her Master if not for their subservient cooperation in helping her win that prize.

    Class Skills

    Magic Resistance: B+

Protection against magical effects. At this rank, three-count or lower spells are cancelled, and the effect of ten-count spells or Grand Rituals is significantly mitigated. Saber is no stranger to magery, and her fateful experience at the barrows of Sámsey translates into an additional resistance to fire-based thaumaturgy.

    Personal Skills

    Bloodstained Demon: B

Provides significant bonuses to close-range combat capabilities; furthermore, it obscures Saber's identity and prevents the identification of Saber as she appears in battle with her appearance while outside of it by those without keen enough discernment.

A skill that encapsulates both Saber's martial deeds and the spirit behind them. Having trained as well as any male warrior in wielding all manners of weapons from a young age, she carved a bloody place in the world for herself both as a mercenary and a raiding viking and in kingly courts, under the guise and moniker of a man - "Hervarðr". It is difficult to imagine the charming queen of storied beauty that she became in her later years being the same person as the sable-clad warrior drenched from head to toe in blood, wielding a black sword that radiated malice - yet these are merely two different paths that Hervör alternated between to her heart's content. If eventually those paths converged, it is because - as men of all stations noted - the very existence of a woman who as a young girl ambushed, robbed, and murdered unwary travellers as an idle pastime, naturally gravitated towards evil.

    Spiritual Evocation: B-

The ability to utlise thaumaturgy which raises the spirits of the dead that linger in this world. Both substantial wraiths that are bound to this plane of existence because of their lingering attachments, spiritual anchoring, or more forceful means, and transient clumps of leftover thoughts - imprints of existence that congregate to a common focal point and form apparitions - can be aroused from slumber and put to service. Saber did not raise the spirits of her kinsmen from their tombs with unkind words alone; despite that, not being in the Caster-class container robs this skill of some effectiveness, and thus the stronger spirits stirred into action are not truly Saber's thralls so much as a swarm that she agitates and sends off to a general direction.

    Mana Burst (Flames): B

Infusing her sword with magical energy envelops it in the otherworldly barrow-flames which flicker long and high as if possessing a will of their own. The barrows were alight and ringed with such fires that they resembled the gaping maw of the underworld, and yet Hervör crossed the blazing boundary with no hesitation, clasped her hands around the fire-wreathed Tyrfing, and made those flames her own.

    Noble Phantasm

    "Fare well, daughter!
    fain would I give you
    twelve heroes' lives—
    trust what I tell you!—
    the goodly strength
    and strong endurance
    that Arngrím's sons
    left after them."

    Tyrfing
    Oath and Thrall Imperishable

    Type: Barrier
    Rank: A
    Range: 1~40
    Targets: 12

Description: The dead are never willing to part with the treasures they were buried with, and Angantyr was no exception, although it was not possessiveness for the precious sword but fear for what would come to pass should his daughter claim it that fuelled his reluctance. In the end, he gave it up to her; and along with it a blessing that would sublimate into this Noble Phantasm.

Upon its invocation, the fell fires of Hel spring forth from the ground and transform Saber's vicinity into a boundary bearing the likeness of the otherwordly locale on isle Sámsey where spectral flame and heavy mist surround the barrows of the dead. From those barrows, twelve cairn-fires flare to become pillars blazing on the burial mounds, and out of them step wraiths of ancient warriors, the twelve sons of Arngrím risen from the peace of the dead to bear their ethereal weapons once more in the service of their descendant. Though they are but shades of the fearsome berserkir that in life made entire armies into meals for the ravens, a lifetime of fighting as a concerted band carries over into the beyond, and a single opponent will face a significant challenge with the numbers brought to bear against them. In such a case, the best option would be to retreat, as the phantom warriors cannot pursue a foe beyond the range of the anchor that binds their evoked spirits to this plane - that is, not their graves, but the sword Tyrfing that once lay there with them.

A father made an impossible promise to the daughter that he never met in life. With his spirit bound in thralldom and never let to rest, does he now rejoice, or regret?

    Heidrek Höfundarson

    Class: Saber
    Alignment: Lawful Evil

    Parameters:
    STR: B
    END: C
    AGI: B
    MGI: B
    LCK: A

    Background

The prophecied one, Wise King Heidrek. When Hervör confronted her father's wraith over the heritage of Tyrfing, he foretold that she would bear a son by the name of Heidrek who would wield the cursed blade and rule as the strongest under the sky. Indeed, the fair-haired boy became a man with the sharpest of minds and the strongest of wills, who won through sword and cunning the throne and rulership over a vast kingdom of the north - trampling upon mountains of corpses in the process. Though he can fairly be called the main hero of the saga that tells his clan's tales, having achieved admirable deeds of conquest and won great popularity with the people, Saber is fundamentally an egotist who follows no laws or moral codes but one: that of his own self-interest - and for whom the value of other people lies only in their usefulness to him. As Tyrfing was by his side from the very beginning of his exploits, his deeds were naturally the most heinous, but it can be argued that while all that Saber won in life was paid for in blood and treachery, the man wearing a usurped crown was ultimately a virtuous ruler, who never wavered from his staunch convictions. His Master in the Holy Grail War will do well to take that into account.

    Class Skills

    Magic Resistance: C

Protection against magical effects. At this rank, two-count or lower spells are cancelled, but no defense is provided against ten-count spells or Grand Rituals. A skill bolstered by the high MGI parameter and the class container, as Saber saw and cared little of magery in life - after all, he had no talent for it, so it couldn't hold much value anyway.

    Riding: C

The ability to ride mounts of a mundane nature and vehicles without overtly complex controls. While he often rode a horse in and out of battle, he is neither an exceptional rider not has any specific feat of that nature to his name. Saber jokes that he makes quite the awful mount himself, but neglects to elaborate further.

    Personal Skills

Golden Mien and Silver Tongue: A+

A skill that encompasses the manipulation of people through both charm and deceit. Saber's handsome appearance stirs fascination, his mellow voice urges listeners to agree with what he says, and his words seem fair and wise; in effect a composite of Charisma and other charm and suggestion skills that exerts an enchantment of favorability upon all who interact with Saber, as well as greatly boosting the morale of his allies. Having manipulated numerous kings in life and also having been one himself, he is intimately familiar with their way of thinking, gaining a bonus against heroes who bear this title. Resistance to its effects depends on one's resilience to charms and mental interference, as well as skills of discernment and perceptiveness against deceptions. As his speech is not naturally bewitching, Saber can control the effect of his words in such settings as casual conversation.

Fanning the passions of two men until one slew the other. Appealing to an old and downtrodden king's pride to become his captain and co-ruler. Turning the certain loss of his claims to the throne into a complete seizure of the kingdom. Orchestrating deceptions to rid himself of trouble and earn what would never be given to him freely. And all the while remaining a popular ruler renowned for his fairness and wisdom. Tyrfing may be his greatest armament, but words were the weapon which cleared all the obstacles for the cursed sword to be swung unhindered. Through half-truths and gilted lies or appeals to weak points and suggestions, whether to negotiate and ally or sow discord and turn foe against foe, the Servants of the Holy Grail War are but puppets meant to dance in the palm of Saber's hand.

    Individualism: A+++

Belief only in oneself and one's own powers, and a visceral aversion to being controlled by others in any way. Negates mental interference and charms, as well as offering a particular resistance to weapons and techniques that restrain or trap their target. Additionally, all of Saber's parameters receive a boost when acting in opposition to an order he has been given - this effect is so potent that it even allows him to go against Command Spells, conferring even bigger bonuses the greater Saber's defiance becomes. This renders him an oddity among Servants in that his Master has no means of forcing him to act against his will beyond the fact that they provide him with the magical energy to remain materialised. On the other hand, a cunning Master will think to take advantage of this peculiarity by issuing commands opposite to their desired result; that Master will soon find that Saber prioritises very few things to the point that he would tolerate being manipulated.

Heidrek's principle of autonomy goes beyond obsession to the level of pathology, or perhaps even down to his Origin. When he was banished from his father's kingdom for the murder of his elder brother, his father was urged by Hervör to impart upon the exile-to-be good advice on how to avoid dangers and live a prosperous life. Taking this to be a ploy with evil intent on the part of the father whose dearly beloved eldest was killed by the man before him, Heidrek proceeded to systematically and emphatically go against every single piece of counsel over his life, reaping benefits from every defiance. This spirit exemplifies Heidrek's way of life, and even if he could have become an even grander hero had he followed those guidelines of prudence, he wouldn't have it any other way.

It is said that Queen Hervör was very fond of her secondborn son, and one can see how the woman that loved herself above all would look upon Heidrek as at her own reflection in the mirror. But even as their natures were alike, insisting that the king give their wayward son his best advice on how to live correctly seems completely unlike her; that is, until one considers that she would be well aware of how her son would receive them, close that they are in thought. Though she had claimed when she was young that she cared not for the fate of her descendants, it is for one to wonder if deliberately setting Heidrek on an arduous, perilous path, and even giving him her treasured heirloom Tyrfing, was Hervör's way of telling her son to go and find his own place in the world.

    Golden Rule: B

The monetary affluence of a king that brought back many treasures from his campaigns and raids on foreign soil. He will never want for money, and in fact underrates the value of gold as a means of quickly gaining status without the proper merit.

    Kinslayer: B+

A murderous affinity against those with whom bonds are shared. Saber slew his brother, his father-in-law, and the mother of his illegitimate child with premeditation and utter remorselessness, and that stain upon his soul sublimates in a skill that increases the chance of critical hits against allies, as well as fellow Norse heroes, children of Ask and Embla as they all are. On the remote chance that Saber faces a Servant with whom he shares a direct blood relation, the effect becomes even more poweful.

    Noble Phantasm

    Tyrfing
    The Final Answer of Kings
    "What said Odin
    Type: Anti-World
    in the ear of Balder,
    Rank: A
before he was borne to the fire?"
    Range:

    Targets: 1

"You alone know that, vile creature!"

Description: A man named Gestumblindi who was an enemy of the king was summoned to reconcile their differences. The methods of reconciliation were two: either to submit himself to the judgment of the king's twelve wise counsellors, or to pose to the king a riddle which he could not solve. Knowing that his sins were many and his wit no match for the king's, he made a sacrifice to Odin and asked for his assistance. The next day, the man that presented himself to the king and took up the challenge of propounding riddles looked in every way the selfsame likeness of Gestumblindi, and the riddles he put forth were many and intricate. Yet the king divined the answer at every step, until the time came for one final riddle to be posed: a riddle which turned out to be truly unanswerable, as not a single man alive or dead could possibly know the answer to it. Enraged, the king drew the sword at his side and swung at Gestumblindi, whose robes collapsed into themselves as he transformed into a hawk and flew away. The sword could only clip at its tail, and the shape-shifting god laid upon the king a wretched doom for his unjust violence.

Faced with an insurmountable obstacle, Tyrfing instead aims at the premise of the contest and slashes it apart. This Noble Phantasm can only be used when Saber finds himself confronted with an absolute technique that cannot be avoided, resisted, or overcome. On the precipice of certain defeat, Tyrfing tears down the setting of the action, therefore nullifying the actuality of the opposing technique, and ending the confrontation as abruptly as a theatre's backdrop collapsing and grinding the action to a halt. It is high-level destiny interference that can be opposed only by a concept of similar nature and power. In practice, a trump card that negates the concept of trump cards.

Overcoming an unsolveable situation with overwhelming brute force is an act that may connote varied facets of character. When Alexander cut through the Gordian Knot with his sword, the act epitomised the irresistible strength and desire to conquer that the young ruler bore. For Heidrek, the act of drawing Tyrfing against Odin in rage is symbolic of total defeat, where his intellect is bested and his own powers fall short of victory - even if that victory was never attainable and his abilities irrelevant against the insoluble riddle of the mighty god. As the hero who out of all those who wielded Tyrfing won with it the most acclaim in war and rulership, having his Noble Phantasm represent his failure and inability to discern the deceit is a grave insult, and thus Saber refuses to use it even if he is staring death right in the face. In his mind, if his own strength is not enough to avoid it, then that death is the only course he can take to stay true to himself - in other words, he'd rather die than be forced to use his Noble Phantasm by another person, which just so happens to be its premise. Scorning his Master, sealing his Noble Phantasm, unfettered by Command Spells, and striving to win the Holy Grail War on his own sheer merit makes Saber the antithesis of a Servant in all senses of the term.

Incidentally, the Noble Phantasm that Heidrek would possess as a Rider-class Servant would be a representation of the etymology of the name "Tyrfing" as the name of the people - and later the land - that he ruled over, much more befitting of the wise and beloved king.

    Angantýr Heiðreksson

    Class: Saber
    Alignment: Lawful Neutral

    Parameters:
    STR: C
    END: B
    AGI: D
    MGI: D
    LCK: E-

    Background

The son of Heidrek was nothing like his father. Personality set aside, Angantýr lacked the exceptional qualities that had set his father and his two namesakes apart from very early on, and though it could be said that he was closest to his uncle in spirit and demeanour, Angantýr Höfundarson was a genius of many talents whose destiny to inherit Tyrfing and perform deeds of heroism that would be recited for ages to come was prematurely interrupted while he had shown only flashes of that potential. In comparison, his nephew is an earnest but unremarkable young man who picked up scraps of knowledge from wherever he could, whether it was observing his father on matters of rulership, or the well-meaning but infrequent mentorship of Gizur, the aged king of the Geats who had been foster-father to Heidrek, on both war and moral conduct. Thus, him being suddenly thrust onto the throne by necessity after the murder of his father inspired little confidence in the people who saw none of Heidrek's grandeur which had led the kingdom to great prosperity in his reserved heir.

Nonetheless, Angantýr's actions from the moment he assumed the mantle of kingship were nothing sort of impeccable kingly conduct. Avenging his father by hunting down his craven assassins, reclaiming the stolen Tyrfing that had become a symbol of their line's rule, honouring both his ancestors and the gods, and defending his kingdom from usurpation and invasion when his half-brother brought a vast army of Huns at his doorstep and demanded his share of their father's kingdom, all the while remaining courteous to his kinsman-turned-foe. A young man who silently watched the rise and fall of greater men than he, acted out the ideal performance of a good and honourable ruler not through any natural strengths or blessings but by perceiving with perfect clarity and walking unerringly on the proper path of the king.

In truth, the one admirably bearing the heavy crown and the burden of Tyrfing's bloody history is a pure-hearted boy who never judged fault and evil in others, but strived to learn from their mistakes.

    Class Skills

    Magic Resistance: E+

Protection against magical effects. At this rank, not even the simplest spells can be cancelled, but their effects can be mitigated somewhat. Saber possesses an amulet bearing an apotropaic name of Odin, and so magery originating from Scandinavia is resisted slightly more effectively.

    Personal Skills

    Charisma: C

The talent to lead kingdoms, inspire and rally people, and command armies. Though Saber's taciturn nature doesn't inspire confidence in him as a proactive leader, his strong convictions and unrelenting drive to do the best he can charms the people that get to know him more. When the Huns invaded and pillaged the country, almost everyone believed defeat was inevitable, but men still rallied from all over the kingdom to their valiant king who stood unflinching against the undulating sea of innumerable spears and war-banners brought against him.

    Golden Rule: C

The monetary affluence of a king who manages the coffers that his father filled to the brim and more. Because of that, Saber is reluctant to spend coin unnecessarily, not out of thriftiness, but because he feels it is wealth he has no right to appropriate. Equally, he promised his half-brother many riches as recompense for his claim to the throne believing that to be the only way their dead father could directly repay his illegitimate son for his abandonment.

    Dignity of the Rearguards: B

A skill that displays more power the more its owner is in a disadvantageous position. In the case of Saber, it reflects how the bloody and prolonged battle against the Huns did not dent the numbers of his own army despite the massive casualties, as more and more men gathered from all across the land to bolster the ranks of the defenders. As a battle with a superior foe drags on, Saber will have his magical energy continually replenished in addition to what his Master provides him with at a rate proportionate to the prolongation of the match. As Saber is very much a middling Servant outfitted for defensive battles, this skill makes an encounter with him an affair that should ideally be swiftly concluded for the enemy Servant.

    Noble Phantasm

    "The bright buckler
    shall break, kinsman,
    the cold lances
    clash together,
    grim men unnumbered
    in the grass sinking,
    ere the heritage I share
    with Humli's grandson
    or ever Tyrfing
    in twain sunder!"

    Tyrfing
    Sword of Assured Victory

    Type: Anti-Unit
    Rank: A
    Range: 1~99
    Targets: 1

Description: Destiny manipulation of absolute predetermination. Upon invocation, the result of a battle in the uncertain future solidifies into that of Saber's victory, and the World adjusts its course to arrive at that conclusion. Only abilities that defy or alter fate can defend against this Noble Phantasm. A complete cheat of a technique that makes itself available to the most unheralded of Arngrím's line to wield Tyrfing.

It was said even in the oldest of descriptions that Tyrfing was a blade that, once borne into battle, would unfailingly grant its wielder victory. Even as curses piled on top of curses and the blade was regarded as a portent of calamity, no one cast doubt on the truthfulness of that blessing's effect - after all, the mighty warriors that wielded it did not give them cause to. That essential element of Tyrfing's myth, the greatest blessing associated with the sword that leads the arm that wields it to victory assured is what this Noble Phantasm is... not.

There is no way for Saber to know this. The Tyrfing that he wielded in life had the grave curse that plagued his progenitors lifted, its vengeance complete and malice spent, and that must have seemed like a weapon with strong blessings and an unfortunate demonic element lingering in the requirement for its blood-thirst to be quenched before being sheathed - a curse easily circumvented by not drawing the blade carelessly except to carry it into battle. But the sword of his recollection is not the same as the sword that Saber now wields, and upsetting the balance of fate calls for equal and opposite compensation. The second time this Noble Phantasm is invoked, Saber will be shocked to find himself betrayed by the sword, and the doom made inevitable to be his own. Belatedly, he too will feel the bitter touch of evil from the strongest cursed sword.

    "We are cursed, kinsman,
    your killer am I!
    It will be never forgotten;
    the Norns' doom is evil."

    Background

A sword crafted unwillingly, forged with evil intent, tempered with curses and thoroughly soaked in malice, and wielded by wicked men to perform wretched deeds; despite that, also a weapon renowned as a peerless blade that always brings its owner victory. If holy and demonic swords can be considered two sides of the same coin, then blessed and cursed swords are the two ends of a horseshoe, where the utmost extremes converge close to each other - indeed, it has been often said that a blessing of extremely high potency is akin to a curse. Tyrfing carries both curses and blessings, but all to such extremes that the sword gravitated unfailingly towards evil.

Conceptually, Tyrfing is the middle "sibling" out of the descendants of Merodach: sharing the aspect of assured victory that is strongest in Caliburn, and that of glory and ruin which is most famously encountered in the tales of Gram - having numerous qualities in common with its twin sword Dáinsleif that have led to a conflation of the two, or attribution of one's aspects to the other. What distinguishes it as the premier cursed sword is the deeply personal nature of its entanglement with the fate of a certain bloodline for numerous generations that was detailedly recorded in myth.

But a sword is only a sword. No matter its power or fame, even the premier weapon of a given era cannot ascend to the Throne of Heroes if it does not possess a soul. It would be a grand mockery to call the malevolent sentience that formed within Tyrfing from ceaselessly absorbing, amplifying, and radiating the most heinous curses and evils a spiritual equivalent to the soul of a hero. Unfortunately, there does exists within the Throne something it is equivalent to.

For a complete record of the hero's existence to be archived, every significant aspect of their lives must be documented, so that their Noble Phantasms may be derived from their greatest deeds. Naturally, that includes a hero's weapon - and Tyrfing's own spiritual substance aside, a weapon wielded by numerous heroes must be recorded in its totality to accommodate for the fact. Thus, "Saber" found its way into the Throne.

On that plane of records and data, it may well be considered malignant information, but despite that the records of the Throne cannot be contaminated, and the heroes of the Tyrfing Cycle possess "Tyrfing" as it related to them in life and myth. The only method available for this sentient curse to spread is to take advantage of a common catalyst to latch onto the copy of a Heroic Spirit's soul that is drawn from the Throne's records by the Holy Grail War system, and overwrite the information of the "Tyrfing" that they own with that of "Saber", warping the copy of the Heroic Spirit into one that can only be placed in the Saber-class container, even if it is unfitting for them. The obvious limitation is that only heroes who have used Tyrfing in a manner that established them as its "wielder" may serve as vessels, and even then the catalyst that makes this proximity possible can only be a physical fragment of that very same sword.

Incidentally, making it as far as the Servant container is not a guarantee of success. Any well-designed Grail War system would spot the discrepancy between the copy within the container and the original record on the Throne and immediately correct it. This means that "Saber" can only exist by slipping through the cracks into the most shoddily crafted shams and mockeries of Grail Wars.

    Curses Beget Curses: —

The concept of Tyrfing's threefold curse entered the mythical schema as a narrative device meant to unify a collection of tales into a single continuous narrative. Although the evil nature of the sword was related already from the oldest sources, more and more curses were attributed to it in later accounts. The infamous curse of the three niðingsverk - the hateful deeds - was introduced to serve as an overarching element that entwined the fate of the sword with that of the bloodline that wielded it.

In the myth, the niðingsverk were truly heinous acts such as kinslayings and cold-blooded slaughters that in turn begot equally severe retribution. Within a Holy Grail War, acts such as using innocent people as sources of magical energy, attacking those that have given up their rights as Masters and seek the supervisor's protection, stabbing an ally in the back, and generally all the aberrant courses of action favoured by unscrupulous Servants may qualify as 'hateful deeds'.

From these facts two effects are derived. One, that when the Saber-class Servant is defeated, "Saber" will remain materialised for a while. As the sword Tyrfing that is intrinsically linked with certain Heroic Spirits remains in existence and Servant "Saber" is still alive, yet the Heroic Spirit is absent, the Grail will fill the container with an appropriate Heroic Spirit to rectify the contradiction.

Two, the identity of the Heroic Spirit that will be summoned as a replacement depends on the number of niðingsverk that the previous incarnations of Saber have cumulatively committed. With Angantýr Arngrímsson as the original Saber, the equivalent sequence is the following:

    Hervör
    NIÐINGSVERK ≥ 1

    Heidrek
    NIÐINGSVERK ≥ 2

    Angantýr III
    NIÐINGSVERK ≥ 3

Thus, the Master of Angantýr I who slew a passerby in order to sheathe Tyrfing will shortly find himself contracted to Hervör, and should Hervör show her characteristic disregard for others in a particularly monstrous manner, Heidrek will take the stage after her. Of course, it is possible to skip steps in the sequence should the niðingsverk count be high enough; and it is also possible that the necessary count to continue the sequence will not be reached, thus spelling the definite end for Servant Saber. Given the sequence of outrageous personalities that a Master may be consecutively called to deal with, perhaps that might be the better option.

As for what follows should Angantýr Heiðreksson fall, the manner of his defeat should most likely hold the answer. In the myth, the three hateful deeds counted down to the lifting of the curse; in this Grail War, they added up to its establishment.

    Noble Phantasm

    Tyrfing
    Sword of Glory and Ruin

    Type: Anti-Self
    Rank: A++
    Range: 0
    Targets: 1

Description: The sword that led the clan of Arngrím to great and terrible deeds now restored to its original form, keenest of blades and thrumming with power both beautiful and terrifying in equal measures, as it was that day when Durin and Dvalin bought their lives with its exchange. This is no clump of magical energy shaped in the sword's likeness - it is the very sword of glory and ruin substantiated, independent of the Holy Grail War's premise, and still hungry for the inimitable heights and depths of human pathos. Though the actors have returned to the Throne, the story is not yet over. In epic cycles, there is always room for one more sequel.

No one is born a hero, Master. But if you take me up, I promise that you will become one.

    Prologue - Before Sundown
    The sun was setting.

Even so, he was still speechless. There were no words for a time like this.

He had vanished to be alone. Not because he needed space to gather his thoughts. He couldn’t stand being there, seeing them all. That thing… it disgusted him. He always thought she was beautiful but no one could’ve expected that. Gorgeous, regal, divine. The very image of ideal beauty. It made him want to vomit.

And what a horrid idea it presented. Just where could it have come from?

This time around there’s no perverted wizard or old king to blame. So who decided to put this play together? Well, that’s obvious. If it was not the act of men, it must be the heaven’s will. And who can defy the heavens?

    Hogwash.

Obey, or leave? What a ridiculous demand it made of them. In the end, it always came down to in-fighting.

Stay firm. Follow your beliefs. Cut down your foes. Cut down your allies. Save everyone even if it means burning everyone else. Lord, knights sure have a lot on their plate.

… The sun was almost set.

He got up and walked back.

Half a day was far too long for a single question. His answer was obvious.

He served one king and one king alone. Though he never did understand her, he knew what she would do. That girl hated to lose, after all. No matter what.

This time around he wasn’t allowed to run away.

    What a laugh.

    Lore
Sir Kay was one of the first Knights of the Round Table. He was the son of Sir Ector and foster brother of Artoria, who later became known as King Arthur.

After Artoria pulled the sword in the stone, Kay joined her and Merlin on training adventures across the island. The whimsical wizard would lead them to trouble, Artoria would heroically save the day, and Kay would clean up the mess. Once she mastered her training and started her campaign as king, Kay was one of her premier champions, supporting her in battle and accomplishing a number of feats himself.

Once Camelot was taken, Kay was appointed Seneschal and preformed his duties well. He was soon overshadowed in strength and glory by newer knights of the round table and fell from his position as one of Arthur’s strongest warriors. Buckled down by his duties as Seneschal, he had little time to go on adventures or train, only widening the gap between him and the new heroes.

After ten long years, the glorious castle of Camelot fell. Kay caught wind of Mordred’s plans for rebellion but did not join the fight. Sick of the farce, he took his wealth and left the country for good.

The following are select tales of Kay’s few most remarkable feats, small in number and of little significance:
    Feats

    Cath Palug:
Once during King Arthur’s early reign, a monstrous spirit arose from the sea and wreaked havoc upon the land. Its name was Cath Palug, a beast of the planet which presided over the principle of Comparison. Immature at that stage in time, it could not truly be called a Beast, but its power still held the weight of the planet. The King confronted the beast quickly and the two were almost evenly matched, but eventually the King was defeated.

It was at that moment that Sir Kay stepped in and fought the beast himself. Of course, an opponent that could defeat the King was far out of Kay’s league. Yet Kay won by taming the beast through words rather than blows. As the two battled at length, Kay recognized the spirit’s sanity and spoke to it, eventually convincing it to stop its annihilation of humanity. Once calmed down, the beast was given to Merlin’s care to be his familiar and then… well, you know the story from there.

It should be noted that the appearance of Cath Palug under Merlin and isolated from Mankind is much different than his former one, such that they are almost indistinguishable from each other.

The sword of Gwrnach the Giant:
In order to help the young Culhwch marry the beautiful Olwen, daughter of a giant, Kay needed to obtain the sword of Gwrnach the Giant. Gwrnach’s sword was a powerful noble phantasm which gave its contracted user physical and magical resistance such that he was practically invulnerable to all attacks. The one thing that was not affected by these defenses was the sword itself. In other words, the only way to kill Gwrnach was with his own sword.

With this in mind, Kay and Bedivere arrived at Gwrnach’s castle. The former pretended to be an artisan skilled in sword burnishing and was allowed into the castle to polish Gwrnach’s sword. With such trickery, the knight managed to get Gwrnach to hand over the sword and sheath for polishing and, at that moment, cut off the head of the giant. Once Gwrnach was slain, Kay, Bedivere, and their other companions defeated everyone else in the castle and brought back the sword to Arthur.
    Personality
Of all the knights of the round table, Sir Kay is, without a doubt, the least knightly. Foul-mouthed, stingy, and weak, he is a boorish man with few heroic qualities. He bullies those weaker than him and taunts those stronger with an acid tongue, rumored to even shock dragons. Kay is known to be very argumentative and stubborn, refusing to admit defeat and celebrating the smallest victory. He won’t admit it, but he hates losing just as much as his sister. Fundamentally speaking, he is not unlike a certain seaweed-haired temperamental genius.

Emotionally, he is hot-blooded and cold-hearted. He has a short, fiery temper and snaps at nearly everyone, bombarding them with eloquent and vulgar prose. On the other hand, he is otherwise emotionally unmoved. Prophesied from birth to have a heart eternally cold, he shows little emotion on his face, remaining as stern and calm as always. Not even wincing at horrible violence or smiling at joyous occasions, his complexion is almost mechanical. Indeed, even when he’s yelling at someone, all the emotion is in his voice and words but barely shown across his cheeks.

In truth, he feels a bit of inferiority to the other Knights of the Round Table. Being relatively normal in ability and virtue, he seems out of place among such honorary knights. So to make up for his shortcomings, he often lies and boasts of his abilities, eager to lionize himself. When the opportunity presents it, he’ll even try to take credit for someone else’s work, all to not lose to the others. But deep down, he knows he’ll never be one of them, because they are different on a basic level. They are heroes and he’s just human. The mindset to throw everything away and save the people no matter the cost… it sickens him.

Outside of these traits, he is generally an average joe. He’s down to earth, calm, and sensible. He enjoys basic luxuries and is very keen about finances. He sees little worth in grand, otherworldly ambitions and would rather use his money on booze and women. And that’s Kay, a man who stood amount legends by acting larger than he was. Destined for neither mediocrity nor greatness, he sat awkwardly as the best everyman and the worst superman. Watching the back of his beloved kind, only able to think,

“Bollocks. What was it that she wanted to do so much to have to go that far?”

    Miscellaneous Characteristics
    · He hates braggarts even though he is one.

    · He likes reading but not fiction. “Useful” books are his forte.

    · He qualifies for both the assassin and rider class, and would actually be stronger as either, but refuses to be summoned as anything but a knight out of pride.

    · He is a pretty good horseman but dislikes fighting on one, a trait he inherited from his sister.

    · He is quite the flirt like many other Knights of the Round Table, but he is a perfect gentleman in courtship and makes sure both parties are satisfied.

    · Physically speaking, he prefers girls with ample assets. Character-wise, he likes plain, girly types who are good listeners.

    · Regarding the Holy Grail, he would consider wishing that King Arthur never had to be king, but he realizes that that would change nothing. Whether she was king or not, her nature would never change. If so, instead he would wish for one thing: that Artoria Pendragon would have had the chance to be a normal girl, to experience what she was always protecting.
    Relationships
Artoria: He loves her but does not like her. He knows her well but does not understand her. Kay’s loyalty to the King is unquestioned, but even after twenty long years together, he cannot come to terms with her inhuman nature. There is no one in the world he respects more or is more scared of.

Artoria Alter: Kay understands at first glance that this is just another side of Artoria. But even so, his conclusion remains the same: no matter what the ideals were, the ideal king could not save everyone. Still, in this form, she seems like she’d cause quite the havoc so for now he might as well calm her down and clean up the mess.

Artoria Lancer: He’d hate to admit it, but physically speaking she’s his ideal beauty. But of course, he’d rather kiss a hairy caterpillar than her. Fundamentally, she hasn’t changed much though, so his loyalty is clear.
Lion King: Needs not be said.

Sir Bedivere: The two are very close, perhaps even best friends. Any adventure Kay was bound to, Bedivere was sure to follow. Being the other “normal” member of the Round Table, Kay has taken quite the liking to him. Even after the end of it all, the two remain close.

Sir Lancelot: They used to be pretty good friends. Despite his foul personality, Lancelot recognizes Kay’s abilities. Often, when Kay would say too much and get himself in trouble, Lancelot would be the one to protect him. In return, Kay would occasionally confide in Lancelot or offer the later frank advice. But after the fall of Camelot, their friendship has broken. Fighting alongside Lancelot again is something he will never do.

Sir Gawain: A pretty neutral relationship. Though Kay’s foulness does not fit with Gawain’s nature, the two have a fair amount of respect and camaraderie as fellow knights.

Sir Mordred: He neither hates her nor likes her. Treats her like a proper uncle.

Morgan le Fay: He sees her both as a frightening witch and a shame. He mourns how such a fine lady could’ve turned so wicked.

Merlin: The most troublesome of men. Kay has never but grudges for all the troubles Merlin has put him through. Even so, they’ve known each other for a long, long time, and though there may not be respect, there is familiarity.

Fou: A mutual respect forged through trading blows and words. They share a hatred for Merlin so they get along very well.

Sir Lucan: They don’t get along. At all. Perhaps it’s because Lucan’s stoic nature is immune to Kay’s taunts or how often they would put heads over management of the castle. That said, Kay doesn’t hate the man, though the same is not true in reverse.

Emiya Shirou: Kay sends his blessings and condolences. He hopes they’re happy together and that Shirou’s rice bin never empties.
    Dialogue
Summon: The 3rd Seat, Sir Kay of Camelot. Rejoice, with me on your side, victory is certain.
    Battle Won: Just as expected
Defeat: I’ll let the enemy go for now. Wouldn’t be fun to defeat them right off the bat.

Bond Lv1: I’ve been dragged into something troublesome. Either way, an honour, Master.
Bond Lv2: A Servant as strong as I should have no trouble in battle. Which means our weak link must be you. Do try harder to keep up.
Bond Lv3: Helpless! Fine, stick with me for now. You shall not be slain unless I am first. I promise it.
Bond Lv4: Have you been wasting resources again? Gimme that. From now on I’ll take control of the accounts.
Bond Lv5: We’ve known each other this long and you’ve barely improved. I guess it can’t be helped; I’ll have to continue watching over you. Don’t misunderstand, it’d just be troublesome for me if you mess everything up.

Dialogue 1: We’re heading out? Then, it’s time for me to show my strength.
Dialogue 2: In summary, I’m basically the strongest Knight of the Round Table. Oi, are you listening? What's that look?
Dialogue 3: Be careful with your materials, Master. A country lives on its finances.

Artoria: King Arthur, goodly met. Have you been keeping up with your training?
Bedivere: Didn’t think I’d meet you here, Bedivere. Shall we share a drink before we start?
Fou: Oh, if it isn’t you, how’ve you been… no, you don’t say… yea, he is a lousy wretch, isn’t he… give him a punch for me too, then.

Something you like?: There aren’t any fine women around are there?
Something you hate?: I don’t like old stories. In particular, I don’t like other people’s old stories.
About the Holy Grail: If I were to wish for something… probably for the world to recognize my strength.
During an Event: Looks like some sort of festival’s going on. If you don’t wanna go, I’ll head out myself. Cya~
Happy Birthday: It’s your birthday? I don’t have a present on me, so don’t bug me… just tell me what you want.
    Bond CE
    Wood Carving

Tch, it’s not that bad, is it? If you squint a bit, it looks just like an old lion.

Honestly, that girl, if she didn’t like it she could have just said so. I’ll show her and wipe that fake grin off her face.

Next time around, I’ll carve a real good one. It’ll be a bird catching a salmon and it’ll be so well-made she won’t have time to feel worried.

It’s not like I care or anything. That stuck-up spoiled brat can go die in a barn fire. It’ll just do my reputation bad if my carving skills are looked down upon.

The next one will clear my name, and she’ll get to see a nice dream for once.

    Yea, that’d be nice.
    Abilities
    Class Skills:
    Magic Resistance B:
"In the heights of Ystavingon, Cai pierced nine witches."
Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by High-Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals, it is difficult for them to be affected.

    Riding B:

"So Kai and Gwrhyr Gwalstawd Ieithoedd went upon the two shoulders of the salmon…"
Most vehicles and animals can be handled with above average skill, even vehicles that did not exist in the time period one was alive in for they are no exception. However, cannot ride the likes of Phantasmal Species such as Monstrous Beasts.

    Personal Skills:
    Unnatural Body B:
Unnatural Body is the possession of a body with unnatural traits since birth. It is the opposite of the Natural Body skill. Instead of a perfect body as a human being, users of this skill have bodies that are flawed in most aspects but have a few supernatural traits that surpass natural perfection.

In Kay’s case, this skill grants him the following physical traits:
    · The ability to grow as tall as a tree
    · The ability to heat strong enough to dry wet objects in an instant
    · The ability to last nine days without food, water, or breath
    · The ability to drink as much as four men

    Deep Wounds C:
Deep Wounds is a skill that displays one’s ability to cause lasting damage. Any wounds dealt by the user cannot be healed through natural means, either the hand of man or time. It is similar to the effect of a number of Noble Phantasms but is a skill inherent to a person rather than to a sword.

It was said that no physician could heal a wound from Kay’s sword. However, at this rank, while natural methods would not work, an ability that defies nature can; in other words, magecraft can be used to heal the wounds easily.

    Pride of the Rearguard C:
Pride of the Rearguard is a unique Skill that displays more power the more disadvantageous the situation (such as defensive battles, military withdrawals, etc.) is.

Kay was the only one of the knights Artoria had complete faith in to be entrusted with the rear guard in their campaigns. His strength as a knight best shines the worse the situation is.

    Knightly Tactics B:
Knightly Tactics is a battle methodology in which one grasps the flow of battle and induces the opponent to make a mistake, even without being a match for him/her in strength. A Skill not for self-strengthening, but to invite a check failure for the opponent. Consists of composed observation powers to wager on a momentary chance of victory.

    Noble Phantasm

    Cheating Liar Game
    Royal Flush

    Type: Anti-Unit (Self)
    Rank: C

The nastiest noble phantasm that tramples on the honour and legacies of every hero. An innate illusion-type noble phantasm that activates whenever Kay lies. Any and all boasts he makes have the possibility of becoming true and empowering him. By claiming credit for the glory of other heroes, he can effectively rewrite his own legend to attribute the feats of others to himself. By doing so, he can gain the subsequent skills and noble phantasms of other Heroic Spirits.

Of course, this is not an ability that he had in life, but rather a power only possible due to the nature of Heroic Spirits. As Heroic Spirits are the products of their legends, Kay can artificially change himself by altering his own legacy. To do this, he must lie to one or more targets and vocally convince them of his claims. Operating under the concept that “A lie becomes true when everyone believes it”, as long as Kay manages to convince his targets that he indeed has so-and-so than he will be able to borrow the rewards of the corresponding legend. For the man who spent his career boasting about skills he never had, bragging about feats he never accomplished, and trying to claim the credit for other knight’s deeds, it is truly an embodiment of his everything.

While the potential for this noble phantasm seems high, it is, in practice, generally useless. For the noble phantasm to work, every single person must believe the lie completely. If even one of them has a shred of doubt, including Kay’s own master, the noble phantasm fails. Even if the ability succeeds at first, if a new person hears the lie, whether through Kay himself or one of the former targets, and doubts it, the illusion is broken. For example, in order to borrow the holy sword Excalibur, Kay would have to claim that he possessed the sword in life and currently wields it right now, which any decently well-versed person would be skeptical of and convincing them of the lie would be very difficult even for a person of Kay’s capabilities. The more well-known a legend, the more powerful it is but also the more difficult it will be to claim. Furthermore, the effect is only temporary as the world will eventually recognize the deceit and correct the illusion.

In the end, though Kay often bragged in life, his boasts were mostly unsuccessful. His deceit was seen through and he was known as an incompetent braggart. He only worsened his reputation and never did manage to steal another knight’s credit. Just as always, this noble phantasm is a practically worthless weapon that has a very low chance to succeed and even lower chance to be effective.

    Other Abilities
Kay is a decent swordsman. What he lacks in skill, he generally makes up for in tenacity and trickery. He is especially good at leading an army, one of Britain’s three battle-diademed knights, though his military skills are noted to be inferior to Bedivere.

None of the lauded knights were a better rearguard than Kay. Fighting a losing battle is more difficult than a victorious one and that is exactly where Kay excelled. His perfect understanding of his own capabilities, willingness to decide who died and who lived, and absolute determination to not die made him the perfect rearguard.

He has no artistic ability. For mechanical tasks, such as sword polishing or armor mending, he is unmatched but once creativity is involved, his skills crumble. Notably bad at carving, he also admits not being a poet.

Creator Remarks: This sheet's pretty long so I'll just say that all the stuff within a spoiler in a spoiler are probably extraneous. I like Kay so I did a Kay sheet, but since Arthurian Kay is a bit lackluster I combined him with Cai, much to Gally's inevitable disapproval.

Alright folks, show's over. Nice work everybody! Voting period begins now and lasts a week. Remember, you can vote for three sheets, awarding them 3 points, 2 points, and 1 point respectively. Also, anyone from the forum can vote; you don't have to have submitted a sheet to do so.

All told, we had 27 sheets submitted. (I think. It's late. I don't really think coherently past like 10 pm. Never did understand how people could write essays at like 4 am or whatever.) Regardless, here's the list w/ links, with thanks to 3434 for compiling most of it.

    Sheets

Also it might be nice to provide some commentary or explanation for your votes. In other news, You (host of the Create-a-Magus contest) and I have decided to revise the scheduling of these contests so that they don't clash with each other as much and also to prevent them from getting stale. More info on that and possibly some other minor announcements after the voting period.

Alrighty, that's everything. Let the voting commence!

So, it's finally voting time huh?

I've had a pretty clear mind on which entries were going to be my "top three" for at least a week now, though those had to be revised a bit in the wake of some last-minute upsets. It was kind of hard to pick just three honestly, since almost every entry in this contest was quite good with basically no sub-par ones at all. Nevertheless, there are definitely some entries that stood out to me more then others, which are...! *drumroll*

    3 points- Brynhildr
As expected of You (whose Servant sheets definitely heed the maxim "less is more"), this is an absolutely incredible entry in just about every way. Honestly it'd take a miracle to top this one, though some entries definitely came close.

    2 points- Tyrfing
The idea of a sword as a Heroic Spirit is something I've seen talked about before but never actually depicted in a sheet. Not to mention the sheer effort going into writing up essentially four separate Servant sheets just for one entry. For a creative concept and excellently fleshed out execution, this definitely merits a spot.

    1 point- Damocles
Was a tie between this one and Sutaa's Cat in my mind, but the concept of this one tickled my fancy just a bit more. The idea of Damocles as a flashy nouveau riche is silly, but it works for me. NP is also described very well.

    Honorary Mentions
Watanabe No Tsuna, Master-Cat, Maria Ursula, Isaac Newton (my original plan for third place incidentally, but Leftovers entry ended up kicking Damocles down a peg and I was left with no slot left for this one)

The very concept of a sword being a heroic spirit is amazing. Definitely one of the most creative sheets I've ever seen.

    2 points - Brynhildr
Simple yet well executing. It has tons of flavor and is professional enough that I can image it actually appearing as an official servant.

1 point - Edward of Woodstock
The duality of two overlapping personalities is interesting.

I was actually meaning to make a nod to Sunny's sheet with mine, but due to several issues I had to post it early. Like Skull, I'll be posting a revised version later over on the other thread. (Self-promotion is good civilization!)

For the double-summoning that somehow gave us a caster in a saber contest.

    Honourable Mentions
Almost gave Ranmaru a vote, Isaac Newton with his laser sword, and mine of course

3 - Tyrfing (I just thought this was such a cool concept as a literal Saber Servant)
2 - William Penn (No bias because minor connection to The Crucible...)
1 - Damocles (Personally I'd have made his NP a lot more powerful, but have some kind of downside if he fails to perform as a King... Then again that would be probably worse than yours)

Honorable Mentions - ALL OF THEM. You guys done great

I promised criticisms so here they are. For some reason, there's a scoring system in place which is ridiculous but it's there so make of it as you will. Also, I temporarily hate all of you because this took forever due to the large amount of sheets.
    Criticism

    Damocles

Really solid sheet overall. Interesting conceptually and cohesive in practice. The NP’s pretty creative and ties into the theme very well. How dare you start us off with something this good and make it hard to compare against!
    20/25

    Charlemagne Alter
Alters are always a risky enterprise, but I think this one came out pretty good. It does compliment Zork Knight’s sheet well, and the skills/NP show the difference between the two forms. If I had to say though, his personality doesn’t feel too strong. Rather, the shift between normal and Alter is pretty standard fare and doesn’t feel like it demonstrates any unique alteration in Charlemagne. Not bad at all, but I think there’s more untapped potential there.
    13/25

    Pedro de Alvarado
    (Insert Not-a-genderbend joke here)
Anyways, a pretty chilling servant with some nice abilities. The skills and NP draw from clear inspirations and tie in well with the theme. But, and this will sound weird, … he doesn’t feel like a Saber. Which is a vague criticism, but it’s something that oddly irked me. His identity as a Saber feels weak… I feel like he just generally suits Lancer/Rider much better. Don’t mind it too much, just something that I couldn’t shake off.
Also, little thing, but “As Saber's most famous battle was carried out on horseback he possesses this Skill at A-rank.” is a weak justification and you know it.
    13/25

    Mori Ranmaru
Simple and likeable. Everything feels unique and well-thought out.
    18/25

    Uther Pendragon
The whole mad enhancement deal is pretty interesting. Other than that, pretty well-rounded with some straight forward NP’s. There’s some typos here and there, so I guess proofreading would be nice.
    11/25

    Abel and Mechtilde
Dual Servants are always nice and this one is definitely so. The concept behind the duality is nice and the two halves complement each other well, while still feeling unique from each other.
    20/25

    Mehmed bin Murad
No FC but a picture of a sword instead so it automatically sucks!
Your mention of Magic Resistance being below average made me have to go and calculate the mean magic resistance for Sabers which did in fact turn out to be B which pissed me off because you were right.
Anyways, his skills are pretty straight forward but his NP’s are all quite creative. Personality’s well thought out.
    17/25

    El Cid Compador
A very simple sheet. Not much to comment on.
    4/25

    Kondo Isami
    What a charming Gori-stalker.
Not much to comment on his personality or skills, but his NP’s are pretty cool. A Kondo sheet is always appreciated.
    15/25

    Janos Hunyadi
Some nice ideas in this sheet, and I see potential for more. Raven’s Crest and The Noon Bell are neat if reliant on simple gimmicks. I think I’d be more interested in seeing him in other classes.
    12/25

    Ariadne
Loosely justified Saber with low stats to boot.
The NP and skills are all quite inventive though. Unsure about why her NP stat is B+.
    11/25

    Brynhildr
    Yea, that’s some good shit
    21/25

    Sir Lucan
A pretty strong personality and his NP’s and skills work well with his role as a support. His stats are a bit low for a Saber, but they’re within reasonable range. Also, Golautalch is a bit iffy.
    16/25

    Umar ibn Al-Khattab
An interesting person. I think this is one of those sheets where the skills and NP say more about the person’s character than the personality section, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
    14/25

    Watanabe no Tsuna
A refreshing cutie to counter-balance this contest’s sever lack of moe characters
Everything comes together very nicely, with nothing to critique on.
    19/25

    Isaac Newton
A servant so ridiculous it almost becomes absolutely brilliant. Almost.
Pointing out the sheet’s downfalls would do me no good, though I must mention that that lack of cropping technique irks me to no end.
    14/25

    Yagyuu Juubei
Musha Shugyo is cool and Inversion Impulse is cool. But I think it’s a bit lackluster for a Yagyuu Juubei sheet.
    13/25

    William Penn
A pacifist servant is nice if weird. His abilities revolve around that concept pretty nicely and his personality is pretty solid. I think his NPs are a bit more powerful than they should be, though.
    15/25

    Maria Ursula D'Abreu e Lencastro
Interesting enough. The concept was pulled off well. Not much to criticize.
    15/25

    Alfred Hutton
A pretty cohesive sheet. I think it lacks personality though (In more ways than the character’s personality section).
    9/25

    Boleslav I
I like his skills and his NP draws its inspiration well. Otherwise, pretty basic.
    11/25

    Edward of Woodstock
The dual personality shtick is nice and his abilities support it well. (=w=)b
    18/25

    Yi Sun-sin
Cool NPs for a pretty cool guy. I feel like I’ve said this too much, but his character is weak. Also, a nitpick but if he’s already fulfilled his wish, why can he be summoned? Maybe mentioning something about that would be nice.
    11/25

    Ushiwakamaru
    No drawing; utter shit
Well this one’s basically just Rider Ushiwakamaru as a Saber, but I think you did a good job transferring her over from her Rider counterpart. Unsure why Endurance has double plus modifiers though.
    11/25

    Master Cat
Not a cute loli catgirl. Do you even Nasuverse?
Everything comes together damn nicely and is unique, original, and well-thought out. The basic concept is very good and you executed it all perfectly.
    20/25

    Tyrfing
    Damn, that’s some good shit
    22/25

    Sir Kay
What? I can criticize my own sheet.
And so, last but definitely least, we have Sir Kay and what a shitshow. It's so bloody long for no good reason, dripping with unnecessary detail yet lacking where it counts. The NP is hard to understand, unnecessarily complex, and just a worse version of UBW. And what's with the Status screen? You think that makes you special? His skills have no good justification and are just there. His personality isn't portrayed very well, and you can barely even see him in the "faceclaim"! Thematically weak, uninteresting, and poorly executed. And worst of all, above all of that, why the hell did you spend over 24 hours on this! (not counting research time)
Hindsight is 20/20 but this sheet is 0/25

Anyways, good work everybody. All the sheet were high quality and I definitely had fun with my own.

Ah, Endurance had double plus modifiers because one of Ushi's NPs involved recreating what Benkei did. Honestly, it was kinda ridiculous so I felt doing that was a bit more believable. (Maybe I should have a list of how the NPs were sublimated...)
Other than that yeah, you'd be kinda on point with that. Drawings were gonna be shit anyways

Zikari why is your rating system out of 25. I've decided to write my own comments, though. Time to get settled, cuz this could take a while:

    Comments
Damocles: An extremely well done sheet. It's very simple, but every one of the elements of the sheet click together extraordinarily well. Plus, a really unique personality which fits the legend, and a creative NP with a fun visual. I dig it.

Charlemagne Alter: Well-formatted and a good complement for ZorkKnight's sheet. I do agree with zikari that his personality doesn't really "pop" though, which makes it harder for his character to stand out.

Pedro de Alvarado: I really like this sheet as well. A good mix of skills, a flashy personality, and two of my favorite NPs in this contest as a whole (the second especially, a nice visual with an interesting effect).

Ranmaru: Like Zikari8 said, it's "simple". Not in a bad way, though. His personality is especially charming. I think his NPs are the only part of the sheet that strikes me as a little "too simple", perhaps. They don't really stand out.

Uther Pendragon: Not bad. A well thought out personality. The Mad Enhancement is an interesting complement to all that.

Abel and Mechtilde: Well done sneaking a Caster into my Saber contest. I kid, of course, but this is a pretty cool Double Servant. They complement each other well but feel like distinct characters. Djævle-Datterens Nye Mand struck me as a particularly creative NP. The formatting seems a little wonky at some points, though. I think it's because of inconsistent spacing or something? Also, I think, a little too much spacing.

Mehmed bin Murad: I like the personality stuff here more than the skills. I do like the 2nd and 3rd NPs though. The first one is appropriate and should be in the sheet, but it's not especially interesting to me.

El Cid: A little too simple. Lacking a personality section to help tie it together, as well. Points for not using the fire interpretation of Tizona, but the two effects you did use for the NPs are unfortunately still a little uninteresting imo.

Kondo Isami: I like the "if he faces another opponent with this Skill then theirs will suffer a Rank Down" element of his third skill. I also like the NP.

Janos: Not a bad take on a defensively oriented Servant, especially for your first sheet posted here. I'm inclined once more to agree with zikari8, though. I'm not really sure Saber is the best fit for him.

Ariadne: Weird Saber, but you made it work. I particularly like your work with the NPs.

Brynhildre: I have a feeling a lot is going to be said about this one, deservedly so. Cool to see an alt take on a canon servant, and this pulls that off with style.

Sir Lucan: You did well with what you had...but I almost don't think this person should have been a heroic spirit in the first place. He's sort of just...more irrelevant Bedivere. I found this especially noticeable in the NP section. The first one is already a little bit of a stretch, but I'm really not feeling the 2nd one. You didn't really give any justification for why he has it, so it kinda just feels like it was chucked in just because he needs another NP.

Umar ibn Al-Khattāb: An interesting set of skills, and a really neat 2nd NP. I can't really think of much else to say, but it's p good.

Watanabe no Tsuna: Another good sheet by Sunny. I think I slightly prefer Damocles, but it's also possible that "familiarity bias" is at work. Cool NPs and no real issues as far as I can see. Kudos.

Newton: Silly, but also has some of the more interesting stuff I've seen in a Newton sheet. It is a bit more powerful than it should be, though.

Yagyuu Juubei Mitsuyoshi: I don't really care for the NP. The skills are good, but to extend on what Zikari said, it kind of lacks...flash? That's something I'm always talking about, but I feel like Servants should have a little something that makes them stand out, some sort of recognizable or iconic element. I feel like this doesn't really have that.

William Penn: Never really saw him as a duelist, more of a straight pacifist, but I'll trust you I suppose. In any case, the concept of a pacifist non-ruler Servant is a bit of an odd one, but I think you make it work. He's not useless despite his pacifism. In any case, he'd certainly be a curveball to see in a HGW.

Maria Ursula D'Abreu e Lencastro: Short and sweet. Simple, but it all works. So, er...yeah.

Hutton: A couple of typos and formatting stuff. Also not the biggest fan of your NP. Still, not bad for a first attempt.

Boleslav: Not someone I've heard of, but good nontheless. Personality section is a bit shallow, but the skills and especially the NP are good.

Edward TBP: Another relatively straight forward sheet, but I like the two-aspects concept you've got going on.

Yi Sun-sin: Decent, but a little bland imo. The personality section isn't all there, but the other aspects of the sheet don't pack quite enough punch to compensate for it.

Minamoto no Yoshitsune: RIP drawing. Also in agreement with Zikari8 here, you did a good job bringing Ushiwakamaru over from Rider.

Puss in Boots: Your work is basically always good and this is no exception. Not only is everything quite creative and interesting...the sheet is just fun to read, kind of like Sunny's Damocles.

Tyrfing: Even disregarding the (great) work, A for effort jfc. 4, basically 5 sheets submitted under 1 concept, and it all fits together. As for the actual sheet(s), it's really nice. The concept of a sword sneaking into the HGW is weird and interesting, and the sort of thing that I'd love to see play out in an actual HGW.

Kay: The skills are just ok, but it's the personality where this sheet really shines. It's lengthy, but it doesn't drag, and it has lots of great details that give you a sense of what they'd actually be like in a HGW. The NP complements this personality well.

Props to zikari8 and 87 for reviewing everyone's sheets, even when they don't have to.
And I admit, Lucan wasn't really the best sheet to make; and the NPs were a obstacle for me - so I agree with you on that part. Overall this wasn't really my best. Hopefully next time will go better...

Because I couldn't be bothered to make it out 100. I based it off of some very basic factors that only required being out of ten or out of five for. If I was commited to truly scoring everything as well as posisble, it'd properly be out of 100.
