they seem making him more melee focused, probably because if he spams GoB it will be too OP (hitbox too big).

My god his face is so derpy, he reminds me of Rock Lee from Naruto. But given that it's Gilles it's probably intentional tho no matter how I look at it his pale face just doesn't look right on the sprite.
His NP is actually impressive though his face still ruins it a bit.

I know it's meant to be his stronger class or something, but Saber Gilles is just so unimpressive compared to his Caster self

I don't think he's supposed to be stronger per say but being Saber is more of his proper class, kinda. The thing is before being a knight or a mage what Gilles really is a general, one who leads troops. Saber is his proper class since it is him at his life where he was serving as a great commander, except he isn't given any troops. The time he gets troops is when he is a Caster, while a Caster he might be a sucky magus but he's actually very strong thanks to the fact he's now a general with an endless army he can summon, the only caveat is that being a Caster weakens his stats and personal fighting power. Really Gilles at his strongest would be when he has A) his fighting prowess as a Saber and B) the army he has as a Caster. While the mats do say that when he uses Prelati's Spellbook he automatically reverts to Caster I wonder if nothing really stays from his switch.
