    "But she was here earlier-!"

Hailey was sulking, she was definitely sulking.

While you had been the one whose brain had plunged into the depths of despair for most of the day, the young woman had seen fit to plunge into those same depths herself for a reason that could be seen as just as bizarre as your interesting reaction to Ariel, namely...

"Yeah sorry, but this shop gets run in shifts... Aoi-san leaves here a little after two."

She had brought you here not just to force you to pay for ice cream, but also so that she could see a certain woman -the principal's little sister- fuss over her now that she was a customer. It was a slightly twisted motivation, and in a way, it certainly feels like the woman in question has managed to evade the worst sort of bullet, but at the same time...

Watching her lay her head on the table, one hand still clenching the spoon that lay resting within a bowl of Elephant Ear ice-cream, it's pretty clear that the girl is overreacting about it in the usual way.

The youth running the shop now -who went by the name of Daisuke- seemed to be a student, and a non-union at that; in other words, he was the closest thing to a completely normal person you had seen all day today. If you had to make a guess as to why a student was running a shift here, even if only part-time, it was likely that the school provided job avenues for those students that wished to make a bit more money to spend around town, that or...

In a country place like this, there wasn't much to do other than work anyway...

    "I.. I see... Miscalculations..."

Head still lying on the table...

It seems she had defeated herself this time around...

...Was this how she had seen you earlier?

While his companion was drowning in sorrows, Lucas was studying leaflets he had picked up on the counter. One, in particular, looked quite fishy; inviting you to have your fortune told before the school's opening ceremony.

Who would be dumb enough to fall for that?

Lucas pushed the fliers aside, wondering how the native folks were dealing with the eccentricities that were already, or would soon be, flooding the whole town. It was not only the influx of outsiders, however. If the best the area had to offer to students was work as a mean of extra curricular activity, they may have issues with adapting to drastic changes.

There were, after all, rather isolated from the rest of the world. Then again, it wasn't as if the agency didn't have a presence before that.

How much Tomobiki's population knew about Unions was still a mystery but, it was always better to ask the rabble directly if you wanted an accurate answer in these situations. Which is what he did, when the clerk with the nametag Daisuke walked by.

"Thoughts about so many new faces in town?"

He expected that the public had been warned beforehand, or at least suspected some kind of change. What with the big hospital and other recent adjustments in the vicinity.

    As for Hailey...

Anyone with a weaker mental fortitude might have given in, finding the pouting face too cute to tease, and attempt to console her. However, her partner, who was made of a different material, silently decided to take a picture for future 'negotations'.

One never knew when blackmail could be necessary.

As if not quite yet satisfied, the boy scooped a bit of raspberry sorbet before finally unleashing a merciless blow towards the one sharing his table.

"That's a new record, I think. Being denied before even being properly acquainted."

The delivery had been calculated to deliver maximum impact on his interlocutor.

While he knew poking would trigger her, no trace of regrets could be detected from him, as he savored the artificial flavor with a straight face.

Might be in for a more salty bill but, I don't care.

There was something oddly satisfying about observing his friend's mood melting alongside the content of her bowl. Maybe it was karma, for the bike ride in the morning, but to know that he wasn't alone in misery, was... comforting.

Even when the one sharing your pain was exaggerating her own crisis.

    Nothing unusual with that.

Lucas had little room to talk but, the girl certainly had her own quirks. One of them being the fact that she had a chaotic love life. Her actual relationships never held long enough to be considered that. For indeed, being able to keep a girl longer than a couple dates would be akin to a miracle at this point.

Acting all dramatic about it was a regular occurrence. However, the opponent this time, whether out of sheer luck or perfectly attuned instincts, had managed to stay clear of the battle altogether.

The mental strike might have been stronger this time though, as Hailey really looked deflated in this very moment.

Aoi Nagatani might be out of reach.

Of course, Lucas knew better than voicing this, as it would only motivate the other Sleipnir into pursuing the prey even harder. And it wouldn't do to have their new boss' sister harassed.

Before Hailey could enter full complain (or assault) mode, Lucas expertly cut short any kind of retort by speaking first.

"You fancy her that much, Aoi Nagatani?"

The question required a single yes or no as an answer yet, Lucas knew that was the kind of opening Hailey waited to release her inner fangirl. Ready or not, he was in for a complete rundown of Aoi's finest qualities and attractive points.

Good thing he had brought some music.

It was a surprisingly vivid image.

Dreams and nightmares alike are things that more often than not fade with the passage of time, the imagery of the subconscious fading back to the subconscious in but a few moments after awakening; while writing them down makes them easier to recall, it is more common to completely forget about those sorts of things than it is to remember them, dreams are simply fragile in that way.

And yet, you can recall it all with a vivid clarity.

Perhaps it strikes you as strange, the fact that you can recall those images so vividly in spite of the fact that it must be a dream; vividly enough that you turn to it automatically as a 'test' of the apparent psychic's powers. While she is still giving chase, hair the same color as that of her tent upon a quick glance back, she fails to comment on the imagery you have introduced into your own thoughts...

Proof enough -at least to you- that she is not a psychic.

It assuages many fears, but at the same time, it also does little to stop her pursuit of you. There's a certain desperation in those steps and voice that's really starting to make this look bad in the minds of those that don't have full context of the situation, and perhaps for that reason and that reason alone, you finally turn back to face her completely, even if only to tell her to leave you alone in a more direct fashion before this carries on into the school building itself, since the subtle social cues you had been throwing out didn't seem to be sticking to her otherwise.

    "Don't go in-!"

It's going a little bit beyond a simple hard-sell of fortune telling now.

Looking back, seeing her approach, those words are ones that seem to slam into you with a desperate strength; you don't know why she's freaking out, there's nothing going on here that you need to worry about, and the other students, some of whom seem intent to just shrug and ignore her, have already thrown caution to the wind and entered the school building without anything happening to them at all, but...

Right as you begin to scoff and open your mouth to finally tell her off for being a hassle...

You hear a sound that's much like shattering glass, coming from right behind you.

A quick glance back reveals little more than azure cracks.

Not in the glass of the front doors no, but rather cracks that seemed to rest in the air just in front of the door itself, as if some part of the world itself had been smashed with a hammer from the gods. The cracks are literally glowing with azure, as if an endless blue light bulb was located just past the cracks in what you would normally call reality.

    It's bizarre.

Bizarre to look at, even more bizarre to acknowledge -because no one else seemed able to see it- your body freezes up of it's own accord as your instincts finally comply with the instructions they had been receiving from a certain fortune teller for the past thirty seconds, your innate distrust for anything supernatural forcing your body to clamp down on itself to root you in place.

    But it doesn't matter.

Refusal to move towards it or not, the cracks in reality have certainly come for you out of the metaphorical blue. The trigger was something unexpected; perhaps the fortune telling girl who had seen your future clouded by darkness had simply been too slow and unconvincing in her warnings, perhaps your stubborn cling to reality had made the world itself turn against you as irony, perhaps this was simple fate, or perhaps...

Thinking about something best forgotten, had served as the tiniest of links between you and it.

Regardless of the reason, even as a girl's arm grips your own from behind; the sensation of being 'pulled' towards the light is one that overwhelms all of your other senses.

The sound of a young woman shrieking at this...

Follows you right into that same light.

    "Owww..."

The sound of the fortune teller calling out in light, muffled pain, is one that accompanies your descent into the floor. While the sensation had been much like getting pulled forward, it had come to a crashing stop when a different feeling -that of being tripped- had tossed you onto the tile floors the school building...

    Yes.

While you had been yanked towards the light, the place you find yourself in is certainly the school building; it's not like the cloud-ridden sky from the previous day, no, it's tile floors, fluorescent lights and shining wooden doors, but...

It feels off for a number of reasons.

First of all, everything is shifting ever so slightly as if in a heat haze, but the temperature had actually dropped considerably rather than risen notably; not only that, the room you were in felt strangely elongated, like someone had taken the front entrance of the school and stretched it out in order to distort it to their own personal tastes...

    Also...

"Geez... This is what I get for trying to be a good Samaritan..."

The only other person in here with you... Was the fortune teller.

"Try to help someone evade disaster, and bam, I wind up stuck in it too, my luck's just great... Or is this what they call a self-fulfilling prophecy..."

Muttering to herself, the young woman doesn't really seem to be acknowledging you, at least not at first, but then...

"Well, go ahead and get up already-!"

Looking at you, and then back behind you, towards an open door that did not resemble the front doors of the school building, that young woman...

"I don't know what's going on here... But there's something coming from that way..."

Surprisingly calm, especially because this is literally the exact opposite of what any sane person would expect, she-

"And it doesn't feel very nice... So it's best to go... Like right now."

Keeps her gaze fixed on the south... Where...

    "...Where did you go?"

A familiar voice is echoing out...

    Tutorial

    Dungeons/Phantom Eclipses
While Tomobiki is the main setting of the RP, there exists sub-areas within them, called Eclipses or Dungeons, that shift the style of the RP momentarily, introducing a grid-map and stamina system, along with special rules on progression as well as the use of character stats and skills. Often filled with both treasure and danger in equal measures, dungeons can be triggered by a number of actions on part of the player, and can often be found at the heart of 'distortions' that exist within the confines of Tomobiki.

As a consequence of the nature of their existence, characters that die within an Eclipse are erased from history via Phenomena Intervention, and even those that emerge victorious have to pay a price (of sorts) to return to reality, which will be elaborated on when it becomes relevant to the situation.

    For now, the basic rules:

Characters within an Eclipse can move a certain number of spaces each turn, this number is dependent on the rank of their Agility, plus whatever bonus is assigned due to major or minor skills, or the use of Drive. To use Uro as an example, his AGI allows him to move four spaces a turn, however, due to the minor Athletics, this number rises to six. After moving one's character on the grid-map, the GM will post an update on the situation, describing the new room/items within it/sounds you can hear/dialogue from allied characters etc, and update the grid as well to account for enemy movements.

The GM will assign the bonuses to characters upon their first entry into a dungeon, and more unique ways of interacting with the grid may be possible dependent on the character in question; and certain NPCs may have abilities that make dungeon exploring much easier (such as Chiasa) in addition, due to the 'draining' nature of dungeons, characters have a stamina gauge that drains upon taking actions within the dungeon.

Stamina is dependent on Vitality, using Uro again, his Vitality would leave his Stamina at 30, but due to Athletics, this rises to 40. Stamina drains by 1 point for every space crossed on the grid, and an additional point for any minor enemy (one so weak that it serves more as a pest than anything truly dangerous) that is encountered on the board, symbolizing the effort involved with the character successfully destroying or evading the enemy that got in their way.

Special enemies, such as FOEs or the Dungeon Boss, are fought in a more free-form fashion instead, and will drop Stamina to Zero after a successful battle with them, or drain it by a situation-dependent amount if it becomes necessary to escape. In the case of attempting to escape a FOE, coming into contact with it on the grid starts a battle with it (the one striking first dependent on their AGI) and escaping from such a thing is far more complicated than simply turning around and running away, as more often than not, things like FOEs have special actions that enable them to catch even the fastest of characters; so tactical thought should be used if one hopes to escape once caught.

This dungeon only has FOEs within it. Minor enemies do not exist within this one. All doors are unlocked, but the sound of opening them may draw attention from things that are nearby.

A character that reaches 0 Stamina becomes tired, and all of their stats become halved as a result. This fatigue will carry over to the normal section of the roleplay, and exploring too long while fatigued runs the risk of becoming ill as a result. Escape involves reaching a certain type of area, however that will be elaborated on when it becomes more relevant.

    Dungeon Skills, Techniques and Stats

    Motou Chiasa
    Stamina: 30
    Movement Range: 5

    -The Divine Sense-
Form of ESP that enables the user to sense the general layout of areas, any particularly strong entities that exist nearby, as well as their general intentions towards others. Further details unknown.
[When in a dungeon with Chiasa in the party. Automatically reveal the locations of living entities on the Gird Map, these entities will be represented by question marks, and their movements will be tracked and updated from turn to turn so long as Chiasa remains close to the other characters. FOEs will appear as crimson in this way due to their hostility, but characters of a more neutral or benevolent persuasion will appear as blue on the map instead.

    Tsugumi Uro
    Movement Range: Six
    Stamina: 40

    -Double Time (Drive Action)-
[Activate Drive and move through the dungeon under it's effects, doubling movement range and effectively taking two turns within the span of one turn. Stamina cost is still paid as normal for the moved distance, but any traps that would activate upon reaching a panel while under it's effects are automatically avoided by Uro so long as it is physically possible for him to do so. Has a small chance of causing phase shift.]

    -Obfuscation (Passive)-
[When traveling alone, ability to remain ignored by monsters within the dungeon is greatly increased due to an all around lowered presence; if given the choice to pursue Uro or someone else, enemy will most likely pick the other combatant.]

There it was again, that voice that called out to him, a paradox of ethereal beauty and inhuman horror.

All rational thought had escaped his head leaving him with nothing but those specific memories prior to this moment but above all else the raw emotion. The uncertainty, the confusion but above all else, the sensation of true fear. He knew what would happen if that monster caught him, an unimaginable fate.

Twisting around to face the unfortunate fortune teller Tsugumi dragged into this living hell, his face contorted into a pale horror.

"Look, I don't know what's happening either but if what I think is out there... we're both dead. Like that," snapping his fingers for attempted emphasis, "I think I may have been here before and whatever that thing actually is, we can't beat it. We run or die."

He could feel 'It's' presence south, so the rational thought was to go the opposite direction.

Taking a hold of his acquaintance - in equal measures to reassure her and himself - he walked up to the door in front of him.

"Stay close to me, you're psychic right? We can help each other here. Lets go."

Well aware that this was not a nightmare but something else, he ignored the cold sweatiness of his skin, the dizziness... all of it.

As quietly as possible, he prepared to open the door.

    "Yeah, sure, sure..."

Having been the first to stress the fact that you needed to leave, the young woman nevertheless maintains a sort of invincible calm that you cannot match; likely because she herself has never run into the 'thing' that she seems to believe is coming from the south, and that your intuition confirms must be the case.

"Just don't panic... It's not moving very fast. So we're fine."

The door that separates this room from the north just seems like your everyday average school door, made of a recently polished and shining wood, the handle nevertheless lets out a sort of hateful creak as you push it open, as if the hinges to the door were playing a particularly sick form of joke on the two of you now that things had gone a lot closer to hell than heaven.

Thankfully however, there doesn't seem to be anything in the room ahead of you.

"It's safe... The name's Chiasa, by the way."

When the fortune-teller confirms it, you allow yourself to move deeper inside of the place. This room is much smaller than the last, filled with enough desks and chairs that it's origin as a classroom is clear. There are glass windows all along the left wall, revealing little more than an endless wave of grey fog coating the world outside and making it impossible to see more than five feet out from the windows. There are latches on the windows that look simple enough to undo, but a quiet test of the window pane reveals that it won't slide up even when it's clearly supposed to be unlocked...

    Not only that...

There are two doors leading out of this room. The one to the north is behind a teacher's desk and closed, while the one to the right, the closer of the two doors, was already open when you got in here, as if...

Someone or something else was already wandering around in this area as well, and right as you think that-

    "Hello?"

A female voice calls out from that room's interior.

"Did someone fall in here? Are you okay? You can come out, I won't hurt you! It's your friendly neighborhood heroine, Zero~!"

Whoever it is, they can't see you from where you are, but the reverse also holds true for you...

You have no idea what they look like, but the voice doesn't bear the same ethereal tone as the ghost woman from before, no...

It feels like a person, but... When you glance-flinch back at the fortune-teller...

    "..."

She just shrugs, gaze still focused more on the distant south.

The words 'Don't Panic' - no matter how well intended - did little to help Tsugumi considering he knew he was panicking and trying his best to suppress going into shock.

While his temporary companion was thankfully doing better than he was, Tsugumi was doing his best not to spiral, which meant purposefully shutting down most of his trains of thought. He didn't think were he was, as it was the ultimate proof that this wasn't a nightmare but in fact a twisted world he had fallen into like something out of a weekend morning TV Show for kids. Either than or the Union Virus had already driven him insane to the point of grand delusions.

Moving through this alien realm, though it's origins clearly rooted in the modern world - which he tried in vain to not think about - he couldn't help but get infuriated at that damned door that basically called out the that monster like a beacon.

That's what he held on to.

Fear gets people killed, anger gets shit done - or at least pushed off the inevitable panic attack.

It wasn't as if saying all this rambling would help but it was good to get off his chest. As if he was confessing his sins before-

    No.

    Don't even think about that.

After entering what appeared to be an impressionists painting of a classroom he heard another voice call out to him. Although it was female as well, it was 100% human and didn't sound like it wanted to rip his head off his shoulders.

Instinctively glancing back as if to check on a tornado they were outrunning, Tsugumi found the fortune teller Chiasa transfixed on the south.

"No!" he firmly hissed at her, "You do not know what that is. We need to keep moving."

Tsugumi swallowed a lump in his throat, that probably sounded far more viscous than intended but fear and anger had never made a good cocktail of emotions together. He'd apologise and explain in all further later.

Yes... there will be a later. He thought to himself, repeating it like a mantra.

He stuck to the walls and shuffled as quickly and as quietly as he could through the (blissfully) opened doors towards the woman that called herself 'Zero'.

Some people said 'Better the devil you know' but whoever said that clearly wasn't having the same nightmare he had.

"Come out when it rains? Sure, they're a lot more active when the weather's bad, I can confirm that much; heck, there's even an old town story about some legendary fish only showing itself during thunder storms... Although I can't confirm that one, I'm afraid."

Shrugging at this, the principal does seem to get a bit more alert when mentions of a cell-phone app make their way to her ears.

    "Can I see it?"

It was on the screen right now.

With your duel on the train ending in something most similar to a draw, the 'Arbitrator' program had fearlessly maintained it's presence on your phone screen, as if it didn't particularly care whether or not anyone else saw it, for it was invincible in a way that mere mortals would never be able to truly understand, but...

Since this woman also seems to be a sort of 'invincibility' all her own, surely she must be able to defeat it, right?

    "...Hmm? Not seeing anything..."

    ...Right?

Staring right at the screen, or rather, the app that has taken over the screen, the woman claims -with absolute sincerity- that she does not see the thing that you see...

"Not that I don't believe you... These things can be tricky, although getting past my security is quite a feat... Well, just to be sure..."

The rapid pressing of a number of keys in sequence leads to the screen flickering from it's app-claimed self, to a blue-screen, then back again to that foreign desktop that reminded you ever so much of a computer, a screen that has seemingly, perhaps finally, been freed from the claim of a particularly persistent bit of computer data.

"That should do it. But if it bothers you again, feel free to give me a ring."

    So far...

    It wasn't taunting you...

    (BGM On)

It was a pretty quiet little town.

While a surprising amount of your morning had been spent with the younger of the two -bizarrely charismatic- Nagatani siblings, the town itself still seems to be well within the confines of it's usual routine when you finally make it out into it's depths.

While there are roads for cars and motorcycles, the thing you see the most of on the streets are more old-fashioned bicycles, people zipping around under their own power rather than that of machines for the most part, the early chill of the morning air replaced by the much warmer atmosphere of the afternoon sun. While there aren't very many restaurants in the shopping district, there are one or two food vendors out in the open, most of which seem to be enjoying the newfound attention of the sudden influx of students in the town.

Looking around, this isn't that surprising for a number of reasons.

While a lot of shops in the shopping district remain open, it's easy to see that a good half of them have also closed down for some reason; likely a lack of customer activity, or rather, a lack of tourist activity.

    "...They seem happy."

But the students seem to be acting as a spark of life... At least for now.

Perhaps that was one of the reasons why this place had been chosen?

Regardless, not wanting to linger in any one place for too long; you made your way past the shopping district and towards the Dormitories, aware from the phone's maps that the path from the station to the school building itself is one that would carry you through most of the town, and thus the most efficient path of getting a good feel for the place you would be living in for the next year.

...And that was how you had wound up at the floodplains, or rather, alongside the river that led up towards Mitsurugi Medical; unlike the shopping district, which seemed to have been hit hard by all of the students that had arrived by train this morning, the people that you see here all seem to be long-term townspeople, all scattered along the banks, whittling away the hours with fishing poles and nets in hand, and even amongst them...

"Come on Kaz, you've been struggling with that line forever. Reel it in already! Use some muscle!"

"...Why did I let you talk me into this?"

    ..Two people stand out.

Two men, one much muscular and broader of shoulder than the other, seem to be fishing together along the riverbanks; or rather, the older one seems to be teaching the younger one how this sort of thing works.

"Enough complaining! You can't laze around all day, the students will copy you if you have no fire, show some passion and pull it in-!"

    "Gah-!"

...A very loud teacher-type it looked like, but it also seemed to work as with a roar that you could only describe as the last gasp of a very lazy person, the slimmer green-haired man makes a violent pull with his arms, and a fish that you vaguely recognize as some form of salmon -looked big, not sure about the weight- goes flying into the air in a way that is almost mesmerizing except the young man falls over backwards from the force of his own pull soon after and...

    "...Incoming-!"

Thanks to Evelyn's call, you notice that on it's current path...

It seems to be arcing directly towards your head with all the strength gravity could afford.

Yuuki already started to love Tomobiki from the little that he had seen.

Coming from Tokyo, a very dense and modern metropolis filled to the brim with people and technology alike, even the simple sight of roads that are empty of cars and people walking or using bicycles did wonders for his mental state.

He was never fond of crowds and smoke, so this is truly a welcome change, like a dream come true.

From there, both he and Evelyn arrived at the floodplains, where two people stands out among many others who are fishing at the bank: a rather muscular and older man teaching the younger, green-haired one on how to do it. They're quite loud - though really its the older one's fault - so he couldn't help but to stare for a few seconds before deciding that watching someone fishing is not exactly the most fun activity in the world.

But just before he could tug Evelyn to move on-

It seems that her plan to pacify Kasumi through the use of frozen treats had been a smashing success.

While you maintained your sense of skepticism towards the whole thing -while also understanding that it was far too late for you to do anything about it- the woman's suspicious acts of no-strings attached curiosity had yet to pull the veil over your eyes-!

    It was all a ploy.

It had to be a ploy.

She wouldn't have walked into the shop and said "go as crazy as you want" if this wasn't some sort of ploy-!

Even so, Kasumi had fallen for it hook, line and sinker. Forgetting all about their little playful scuffle at the train station, the girl was cheerfully devouring her way through what had once been a whole chocolate-chip ice-cream cake, willing to forgive and forget so long as someone else happened to be footing the bill in the situation; yes, it was truly a low blow meant to destroy whatever remaining suspicions your bodyguard had about this scenario, which is why-!

"So, how did the train ride go? Was it comfortable? Does your body feel alright? Your condition hasn't worsened in any way, has it?"

It's odd that she has yet to try anything bizarre yet-!

"It's a bit annoying that the Union Disease is out of my means to treat, but by all means, if you feel anything strange, please let me know."

    Not fair-!

"Figure it'll be interesting," shrugging his shoulder as he answers your inquiry, the young man's voice doesn't sound particularly forced, so it's clear that he's saying what he actually believes, "Looks like it's all part of that "Tomobiki Revitalization Project," the Nagatani Sisters have had going on for the past few years. Might not fix our tourism problem, but at least it'll shake things up a bit."

Leaving it at that as he starts running hot water into a sink to start washing dishes, your attention diverts when you feel Hailey's gaze lurch up at you at your particularly cruel method of verbal destruction.

"...I want three more pints of this."

Her response is just as expected, aimed not at you, but at Daisuke.

    "Got it."

And, naturally sensing that this is a bizarre sort of relationship that he shouldn't get between at any costs, the young man simply agrees with the request immediately, even as you follow her passive aggressive I-will-do-worse-than-this-if-you-keep-it-up response with one designed to stop her by instigating something else-!

    Namely...

    "Of course, she's perfect-!"

By having her describe her newest crush while subtly attempting to place your earbuds in your ears in such a way that she won't notice-!

"I mean don't get me wrong, the Commander is also a solid 10 out of 10, but she's a bit beyond me you know? I kinda feel like I'd be the one getting pinned down in that one, and that's fine in it's own way, but I like to be the top from time to time and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work on her. Family has perfect genes though because Aoi is also great in a cute big-sister kind of way, the type who lets you fall asleep on her lap you know? Likes to spoil people, I could see it just from glancing at her; definitely the type that dotes on people-! Of course this is just as much a curse as it is a blessing, as I'm sure she spoils her sister more than anyone else, so that means I'll have the Commander as my final opponent for that position... But I will prevail-!"

...Really, it was almost a 180 in terms of both tone and atmosphere.

...She was also paying a lot of attention to you this time though, so it was a bit harder than usual to just let her rant without answering... She seemed to be looking for your opinions in the opening sections of this particular tirade...

Lucas raised a brow at Hailey's extra order, thinking he was getting away lightly this time.

Then, he was hit with the full brunt of her frenzy.

He was used to it, and knew it was coming, yet still moved his chair a few steps back as if to shield himself from brain overload. In equal intensity to her previous deception, came a wave of fanaticism that nearly saturated his capacity to process information.

When faced with the overwhelming enthusiasm of a maiden opening her heart at maximum output, the blue-eyed boy offered an evasive answer.

"Dunno, haven't spent enough time with either..."

That kind of reply would stall his partner only for a moment, so he decided on another course of action.

His gaze instinctively turned to the clerk who was clearly trying to remain uninvolved. Another person might have thought it cruel but, Lucas had no qualms about throwing an unknown party under the bus if it meant living another day.

"...but you, Daisuke, seem to be fairly acquainted with them. Any advice for my friend here who can't contain her feelings for the younger sister?"

Like a maestro leading the orchestra, Lucas redirected Hailey's pressure towards the poor soul who had simply had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Might want to alter his schedule after that.

Satisfied, Lucas finally plugged his ears, ignoring the student he had mercilessly condemned to suffer the onslaught in his stead.

"...Fair enough. Must be bad, eh?"

Slightly shocked by the sudden hissing, your fellow student nevertheless seems to take it in stride in spite of that, following along behind you as you move, her own movements more open and slightly less paranoid than your own, a sort of self-assured confidence that came with being able to 'feel' out most of what was inside this place, and whether or not it was looking at the two of you...

Or at least, as a newfound believer in her powers, that was what you were assuming her slightly more casual stance was all about...

Really, she should be a hell of a lot more scared than this; this world just felt... Wrong... Or perhaps the word was heavy?

Even walking around made your head pulse as if you were out of breath... Like just being here was sucking the life out of you slowly, but...

"Let's go see this so-called 'heroine' then..."

    Regardless...

"Oh! You actually came out! It's normally not that easy~! Newbies normally freak out in here, you know?"

The person that you find waiting for you, in the center of a room that certainly gave off the impression of being a gymnasium, was a young woman that -for a second- you thought might actually just be Mizuki, dressed up in different sort of outfit than what you assumed was her usual...

    Encountered: Zero

But there are a number of differences that make this an assumption you cannot so easily accept...

For one thing the girl's hair is a lot longer than Mizuki's, trailing down towards the center of her back along with a pure white scarf, so long in and of itself that it was practically dragging along the ground in imagery that is also strangely familiar to you. She's also a bit taller than Mizuki is and doesn't seem to be wearing any form of heels, so unless your newfound delinquent friend had a habit of transforming into an actual magical girl it was unlikely that they were actually the same person, maybe siblings perhaps, but even beyond that...

The accent and tone of voice was different.

This 'Zero's' voice was higher pitched and super-friendly, while Mizuki's was lower and more done-with-everything-around-her.

    "So you're Zero, huh?"

Tilting her head, Chiasa speaks first, not even bothering to look over the newfound girl before opening her mouth to give her opinion.

"Expected someone a bit more tough-looking for the town superhero vigilante... But I guess the Shinobi angle works too..."

...This girl might just be a bit too tough and snarky for her own good, but the taller girl just seems to smile awkwardly before opening her mouth to respond:

"Ah... Sorry for not living up to your expectations I guess? But don't worry, I'm totally legit, I'll have you guys out of here in a flash-"

But before she can get all the words out.

All of the doors slam shut, eliciting a light scream of surprise from Chiasa -betraying her other emotions perhaps- and-

    A bell starts to ring.

It was almost as if the school's clock-tower had decided that now was a good time to get in on the ambiance of the situation, or perhaps to remind those inside of exactly what type of situation this was, but the girl, Zero, doesn't seem to be surprised by this even when all of the lights outside of the now closed doors turn off seemingly of their own accord, leaving this room, a room whose fluorescent lights were only half lit, as the only source of light within the whole school building, hell...

While you had been able to see outside mere moments earlier, from the windows at the top of the room it seems like...

The sun has gone down in but the span of a minute or two...

    "Oh, it's six-o-clock."

Speaking lightly, Zero, in spite of being called out by Chiasa, is now the one with the perfect composure.

"That just seems to happen in this distortion at 6, nothing too serious to worry about from my experience... Will make leaving slightly more of a hassle, but the doors will open up again in a bit."

Hands on her waist, she leans forward slightly towards the two of you.

"You guys aren't hurt are you?"

    Map Update!

Note: All doors are now supernaturally locked. 'A' rank STR or an equivalent force can be used to force them open.

It was the most twisted move possible, sicking your partner on someone else with so cold a heart.

But you had no regrets, the horrors that come about from this sort of action are something that you came to terms with ages ago, justifying it to yourself perhaps, by thinking of it as something of a test for this young man's resolve as a clerk.

And then promptly doing your best to ignore them both.

With the world muffled thanks to the powers of make-shift earplugs, the shape of the shop's dining room nevertheless makes them impossible to remove from your vision without completely turning around -and risking the beast returning it's attention to you- and this you are forced to watch, at least half-way, as Daisuke bravely confronts something that he has yet to understand is just a physically incarnate form of terror.

    "____"

    "______!"

    "_____?!"

You're not quite sure what they're saying, but he's holding his ground quite well after the initial shock. Yes, while his eyes had certainly gone wide the moment he had realized exactly what was about to happen, they had gone back to the cool stoicism of a store clerk mere fractions of a second later, showing a wealth of experience in customer service as he puts on a smile for the girl that has suddenly realized he is a source of very valuable information.

But he will break like all before him have broken.

    "..."

    Time passes.

While he had initially seemed overwhelmed by a maiden's heart exploding onto him with all of the force of a freight train, there had been a horrifying -for you- moment when the young man had let out a casual smile, and started talking back with an earnestness that could only be thought of as impossible.

He was getting words in edge-wise without her leaving openings-?!

She was nodding and listening intently...?!

    This was not the plan-!

And then, having regained control of the situation with a social power that could only have come from those who have experienced the hell that is working retail, the young man claps one hand on her shoulder in a friendly way...

Before smiling -in that retail way- right at you.

Knowing your fate if you get caught, you reflexively remove your hands from your ears; sensing that the train might just be heading right back at you soon.

"Yeah, she doesn't look like it, but Aoi was in the occult club when she was in high school. Last time I checked, they were looking for a couple new members so they could start back up."

The smile deepens in spite of the desperate -but confident- counter hidden within it.

"Perhaps your friend would join along with you?"

    No...

"He seems like a pretty chill guy."

The clever way the student had found a way to not only escape Hailey's full throttle minigun rate of fire, but also turning the odds on the Sleipnir was something akin to witness a Phase 5 solving quantum physics equation while drinking tea.

So, this is what it means to roll a double twenty...

He could have understood if the teenager had been forced to spend a point of fate but, to so easily divert the flow in his favor was something he had never seen before. It spoke enough of the mental resilience the clerk had accumulated that Lucas thought it might become a uphill battle to try to confront him directly.

    And yet...

With that line, Lucas' heart sunk a bit, reaching past a threshold that were never meant to be. It reflected on his face, with glazed eyes looking at Daisuke.

The mood in the shop shifted while he gave the student his full attention.

It had been a long day, rich in too many emotions for someone so ill-suited to keep up with that kind of mental stress. And now, in the exact moment he thought he could use the frozen treat experience to recover, it had been denied by that bored-looking guy who had the audacity of not letting himself getting consumed by unstoppable, burning love fever. Lucas had underestimated him greatly.

"Sounds great," his tone implied the complete opposite. "Why not have you introducing us? We can't decently ignore the fact that you are to be thanked properly, of course."

There was nothing frightening about Lucas' face. If anything, he looked rather dull and harmless this very instant. No particular visual clue to give away the darkness within.

Lucas leapt over the counter, approaching the other boy, placing hand on his shoulder, in a perfect reproduction of Daisuke's own action with Hailey. His crooked smile followed by an increased pressure on the clerk's humerus stressed the meaningful look thrown at him.

"You really should stop by my room tomorrow. Hailey will gladly cook you dinner in recognition of your selfless collaboration."

Lucas glanced over his shoulder, as if to ask for confirmation where none was required.

"You will, won't you Hailey," he paused only to make clear he wouldn't take no as answer. "Such quality friend material deserves the best."

The Sleipnir would make sure that if he were to drown, he would take the man who sabotaged the boat with him as well.

For a moment he could have sworn this dramatic vigilante was the very same girl you had spoken with the other day but it was just a little... of in appearance and demeanour. Zero was a few centimetres taller, her disposition was friendlier and her voice didn't give off the impression she was going to punch something for being forced to wear a gothic lolita outfit her aunt had tricked her into wearing.

Tsugumi's mind went on the track to believe this was likely a relative of hers, a long lost sister perhaps? However than was a whole other rabbit hole to go down and frankly he had already gone under more than enough stress in the past few minutes.

"Zero, sorry. It's sort of my second time but I still have no idea what's happening aside from that weird purple light monster trying to kill us presumably. I'm saving my inevitable mental breakdown for after we get home."

However after hearing the two ladies, Chiasa hand mentioned already knowing Zero. Clearly the woman had a reputation of a local superhero. Though Chiasa's snark reminded Tsugumi of Zero's doppelganger (?) all too well, the bell caught him unawares.

Walking up to the door, Tsugumi placed his hands on it, locked tight and clearly not going to budge. Damn.

"Well considering we're trapped in this distorted gym, I certainly hope you have a backup plan..." Tsugumi mumbled to himself in a low tone.

That might have sounded harsher than intended but the coping mechanism was working... well for now at least.

Physically, Tsugumi was fine. Mentally; stressed, confused and potentially on the verge of cracking up. However the last thing anyone needed right now was dumping baggage onto people.

    "I'm fine, don't worry Zer-"

The final syllable caught in his throat. Tsugumi knew that he had seen Zero before but hadn't been able to put his finger on it before but now there was something coming back to him. Before the main terror of his first nightmare, before that strange combination of his own shadow and that chair. There were two figures that had called to him clad in white. There was that oddly tall male figure and a female that was around average height. He couldn't quite remember which one held the scarf but...

No, he was clearly reaching at straws here. There was no way that Zero could have been the "Eve" that he had seen before.

Placing his daydreams to a halt he placed his gaze back on Zero.

"Anyways what's the plan here Friendly-neighbourhood Shinobi? We're still rather new to all this experience so we need you to be a gentle guiding hand to teach the two of us."

    ...

    "Also, where's the exit?"

    Ice Cream Shop, "32 Below"
    Day
    Date: April 11th, 2056
    Weather: Clear Skies, Chilly

When Irmina...neesan finally stopped dragging us to the ice cream shop, the first thing she said was "go as crazy as you want." How is this not suspicious?!? She's definitely going to pull a fast one on us in this sacred ground of sweets! The second I drop my guard or push my boundary a little too much, she'll drop her act and torment all of us again.

So in order to prevent that, I ordered a plain sundae instead of what I normally would order and kept my eye on... That cake Kasumi is eating looks very tast- her! I need to keep my eye on her. At the very least, I can make sure Kasumi can enjoy her ice cream cake. It's the least, I can do after subjecting her to Irmina...neesan earlier. So now it's my turn to protect her!

And already she has started her counterattack by acting like she's a kind doting sister! But I'm not fooled by your act after you tried to lull me into a false sense of security by taking me to this delicious ice cream place where I want to try everything out.

Despite all of that, she looked actually concerned for me... In light of her seeming sincerity, I can be... nice to her. If only because she looks distressed over being unable to treat my disease.

"The train ride was quiet until I went to ask the principal for something. I think I'm fine... But I'll need to visit Ariel every now and then. I think she's the one who knows how to treat us."

Without knowing it, I already finished my small sundae. I stared at the empty carton and then at Kasumi's cake slightly wishing I chose a bigger sundae. M-maybe I should ask for more. But I shouldn't risk overstepping my bounds... But more ice cream... With these choices, I feel like regardless of what I choose, I'll lose... Choose ice cream, Irmina...neesan will drop her act and torment me. Choose to stay silent and I can't have more ice cream...

I stayed quiet trying to figure out which outcome I would prefer, but ultimately I forgot one thing. That /she/ was watching and probably ready to decide for me.

"The plan? Getting you guys out of here, of course."

Brushing off your more awkward airs with a smile, the young super-heroine doesn't seem particularly troubled by the fact that the string-haired maiden that has been pursuing you up until now is likely continuing to do so even as you speak...

You of course, can't quite bring yourself to let it go thanks to your instincts, and while she doesn't answer the question about the exit immediately:

"Anyways, I'm sure you're confused; to be frank I don't entirely understand exactly what this place is myself... But I do know bits and pieces of how it works. To use simple terms, you've been dragged into 'another world' so to speak, one that reflects the memories of certain people inside of it. It's actually much bigger than this school building, if you go outside of this building it seems to stretch on forever, very cloud-like in terms of scenery... But regardless, someone's memories of the school were strong or important enough to shape a part of this world into Northern Cross Academy."

"That uh... Sounds like something out of an anime."

Snarking again, but clearly paying attention in spite of that, a crimson-tinged Chiasa (her own scream seems to have scarred her emotionally) comments on the lecture in a slightly rude way, but the shinobi just shrugs it off.

"It certainly does. But that's just how this place is... Besides, you're some sort of witch right? You should be used to bizarre phenomena."

"Fortune-Teller, not a Witch... And going all out and making a world is a bit excessive even for Forbidden Sorcery."

"Yes, I agree, but that's neither here nor there, what's important is that it exists. We call these manifestations, Eclipses, because they can start to 'overlap' with reality and make it possible to move from the real world to this one; not just people either, sometimes items show up... Lot of Sleipnir tech shows up here from time to time, and as far as I can tell, only Unions can actually cross into this place; it does something to your memory too, as people always seem to 'forget about it' when they leave..."

Swapping terms back and forth that leave you somewhat out of the loop, Zero eventually just crosses her arms and closes her eyes as she forces a stop to the side-conversation that was threatening to get out of hand...

"A few other places manifest here every now and then, all of them with their own 'rules' that only apply to them. For instance, this place shuts all of the doors at what it perceives to be six for some reason, likely to do with the memories that caused it's creation. When they open up again, the school will have... Changed it's genre to horror, so to speak. Light sources become few and far between, and some extra monsters show up, but all of my observations dictate that there there is a rule that they can't enter a room if the door is shut. Or rather, they won't even bother to try because they're not allowed to do so, I've seen them just stand outside waiting for them to open even if they could just bust it down and enter whenever they want. It's almost like a game, if you look at it from a certain angle."

Uncrossing her arms, the smile is slightly apologetic.

"I felt someone fall in, but the place changed before I could reach you two. I know where the exit is, there's one just a few rooms ahead but... It doesn't appear during the 'night' in this place, so we'll have to wait it out until it flips back around to day. The night doesn't last very long, and while I don't enjoy bragging this Eclipse is weak, so I'm probably the strongest thing in here at the moment, almost cleared it out before you two fell in... Once we can get out, I'll have you guys back out to reality in a heartbeat, it'll be just like it never even happened at all-!"

Strangely enough however, she frowns at this...

"I am curious though... Purple light monster? What did you mean by that?"

Even if the author is silenced, the performance is stilled and the actors leave the stage, the story will never truly end.

Regardless of the form it takes, as long as there are memories of it's existence, the story will continue on.

In a small ward in the heart of a once devastated town, life carries on as it always has...

    Because of you.

    Please, remember it warmly.

It made sense if you didn't think normally. Tsugumi thought to himself. Don't think of it like a nightmare, think of it like a modern-setting fantasy video game or at least a 12 episode anime adaptation of a mediocre light novel.

The monologue was interesting but there was a lot of terminology that he didn't recognise. He knew what a 'Union' was, being one himself, he had enough of a grasp on what an 'Eclipse' was but had no idea what a Slepnir was. At Zero's enquiry however he recalled his memories of the initial encounter but trying not to visualise too much as that may or may not have been what got him here in the first place.

"I call it Lilith. She's well; big, humanoid, pitch black, ambiguously female, purple light behind it that illuminates the figure, has these weird thorny tendrils. Talks like a possessive stalker - very creepy."

However as he recalled Zero mentioning the rules of the horror genre to him moments ago, a shiver went up his back as he remembered something he wish he really didn't. He turned to Chiasa, with a gaunt expression stretched across his face incapable of holding in the dread.

"We didn't close the door behind us... did we?"

Pacing down the walls till he was level with the door but not at the cusp, he looked through to check if "She" was there.
If so, it would be up to Zero - Tsugumi knew that he and the fortune teller didn't have a chance.

"The doors being shut or not isn't the problem..."

Eyes closed, Chiasa comes to a creeping understanding at about the same time as you do, or rather, she comes to an understanding all of her own...

"If that rule is true... Then that thing has been ignoring that rule the entire time."

She had been making a point of closing doors behind her, not only that, all of the doors had closed at once when the 'day' cycle of the school had turned into the 'night' cycle of the school; likely a result of whatever sick 'game' this happened to be, a sort of break-time, or perhaps a time of forced confrontation if a pursuit was in progress at the wrong time...

According to Zero, monsters inside this place will not cross the threshold a closed door.

However, this one has been pursuing you anyway, as if...

    "There you are..."

That rule... If it was truly a rule...

    Did not apply to it-!

Framed in the sliver of window that existed in the polished wood of the distant door frame, the woman-like monster stands shrouded in darkness just as it had been when you had seen it last, whisps of it's hair fluttering in winds that should not exist within the confines of a school building; it's voice is somehow both quiet and loud, accompanied by a soft giggling sound that somehow existed in tandem with it's normal voice.

    "...That thing... Doesn't belong here."

And seeing this, having listened intently to your description of the thing up until now, Zero, who had been radiating a sort of absolute confidence that had helped to assuage your fears, at least for the most part.

"Both of you run. Northern Door, then first right, the room after that corridor will have the exit out. Go now! Break the doors down if you have to-! I'll keep it in here with me! Stay in the light and you'll be fine!"

Immediately tells you to run away as she sprints towards the monster that's slowly, casually...

Started to step through the wall, emerging from it as a grinning eyeless giant.

And at the northern door, taking the other girl's words to heart...

"Shitshitshitshit where did I put it-!"

Chiasa seems to be fumbling through a deck of cards even as the lights that were once present in the room slowly fade out, as if the giantess was absorbing all of it into it's form...

    ...It would catch you.

It would normally, absolutely catch you, but...

Standing in the way, the girl that has drawn two swords, seems to be holding it's attention on her and on her alone.

If there was a time to escape, it would be now...!

    Seeing this, you-!
