The story even went and outlasted him. I'm not sure if that makes your joy more complete or not.

I have no idea how Mike would have reacted to the story going in an Ilya direction instead of a "protect Sakura" one. Perhaps its for the best that we got this path.
Besides, Bloble is much better at writing Berserker/Ilya now than he was then, I think they require more skill than getting a reasonable Shirou/Saber/Sakura characterization out so it probably worked out in the end.
Let's see... it was long ago, but I think instead of 'Broken Promises' his nightmare would've been around 'Regrets he could never have', or something like that.
It would have gone the CP way.
