Wow, I watched a whole lot of trash tonight.

Kings Game: These rules are really stupid. Why have one saying you can't leave and another saying participation is mandatory. It feels like less of a detah game and more torture/suffering porn. At least give the characters some sense of agency.

Just Because: Absolutely nothing happened.

Hozuki no Kuni: Was actually a passable show, upfront plot, decent character introductions, nice worldbuilding, just no hook to bring me back a second time.

Code:Realize: This is pretty much just the League of Extraordinary Gentleman isn't it? Why did this dude put a WMD in his daughter, then leave her alone. You'd think he'd want to keep that stuff on hand where no one else can pinch it. And so he can launch doomsday whenever he wants.

Imouto: Isn't this the third lolicon show in a row Silver Link has done? Still Everything after the first five minutes was pretty good stuff.

Animegatari: It was fun to see all the parody anime names, but otherwise looks like a standard club anime.

Evil or Live: Hey, it's Haoliners! Fuck You Haoliners. You've finally gotten your animation up to snuff, but your stories are still trash.

Kujira no Kora: Now this is interesting. Magic powers that severly reduce your lifespan, art style that makes it look like a storybook, interesting setting.

We know basically nothing about her dad's motives at this point (even wanting to use the Horolagium as a superweapon was simply speculation on Lupin's part). One theory I'd seen floated online was that Cardia died sometime before the events of the series and Isaac put the Horolagium in her to bring her back to life, which would certainly make some sense. (And it would explain why she has no memories from before 2 years ago)

Why he decided to leave her alone afterwards is rather a mystery (as is why he called her a "monster"), but obviously that'll be revealed as the show continues on.

I wonder if all the characters are just going to die in reverse order of the zodiac. So far it seems that way, especially if the Rooster dies next episode.

Though I guess the Snake is the outlier since he is already dead.

Betcha he was a red herring that Nisio threw in to hide the fact that he IS following the reverse order for the deaths. And justify it later with something abstract like: Dragon bro is living for both of them...so when he dies, his death means the death of both Dragon/Snake.

On a side note, what do you think Rat kid's deal is? That's 3 characters already who've said they seem to recognize him / have an odd sense of Deja Vu when they see him...but don't remember where.

At this point, I think it's either:

i) He's pulling a Kayaba, and is actually the faceless mastermind/organizer who arranged the whole battle royale.
ii) He's time hopping and this isn't the first Juuni Taisen he's experienced.

ii) He's time hopping and this isn't the first Juuni Taisen he's experienced.

I'm going with amnesia powers. Like he's one of the most prominent assassins, they've all met before, but since he erases his presence all they get is deja vu.

That's sounds boring...furthermore, it's not like Nisio style at all.

Can anybody whose read the second novel say whether there's any promise of a happy ending or if it's just pure torture-porn from start to finish? If it's the former, I might check it out sometime.

Erai-raws on pantsu.cat has subs for Garo already. Seems weird, but not gonna complain. Series still gives off an incredibly American vibe. In a good way, that is.

That Horrorifying (Horrifying?) sequence was really sweet. Think they got a guest animator to do that bit? Then again, the whole show so far looks amazing.

Most of the LDO are indeed genuinely terrible people and that's part of the point of them being Nazis. But that doesn't mean DI glorifies them inappropriately, when they have Reinhard himself criticize Hitler for his methods, or Bey mocking the Japanese for their Kamikaze tendencies, the very target audience of the game. The reason people are meant to be attracted to the villains is because of who they are as characters and their ideals as individuals, disregarding their Nazi ideology (or lack thereof for a fair number of them. Most of them don't believe in it).

Hell, I even think it's fairly vital to the game that they be Nazis, that a fair amount of them are in some way portrayed as perfectly normal people who were simply part of the military and wanted to protect their homeland (before DI turned them into superpowered beings anyway). DI doesn't glorify, but it also doesn't demonize the Nazis. They weren't all demons that uniformly hated the Jews and wanted to rule the world. There were both good people and bad people, people who believed and people who did not, in their military, just like any other. It's a vital part of what the story wanted to get across and it especially made the endings to some of the routes that much more heartfelt. They were also just very appropriate for the story. The writer needed a fairly recent event where a lot of people have died due to their atrocities, and an organization that had some fascination with the occult, had extreme ideals, but also a variety of people joining it who don't necessarily agree with those extreme ideals. They could make it some random secret society that's totally meant to be the Nazis but aren't, but at that point why not just make them Nazis? They aren't some entity beyond us as writers. Sure, it's possible to portray Nazis in fiction in a disrespectful way, but the very act of portraying Nazis is not in itself disrespectful.

Finally, the very fact that this was written by a Japanese for Japanese audiences should demonstrate enough that the writer isn't just throwing around Nazis disrespectfully. Frankly, if you can't enjoy the series because it has Nazis then it's really not for you.

-The guillotine song in this episode sung by the masses in Ren's dream was sung by Masada (the VN's writer) and some of the people who backed the anime on it's crowdfunding project (I assume getting to sing the song was a reward for pleding a certain amount of money)
