Should I be watching Violet Evergarden? It looks good, but I'm hesitant to watch series that I originally didn't plan to because then I'd never get around to doing the Dies Irae VN. Oh, there's also that First Squad movie.
It's everything the excitement that's been building up over it since its initial CM/PV showing would be. Nice premiere episode.
I will not be watching anymore of it though.

Violet Evergarden is so freaking pretty. The story so far isn't really my thing (basically a post-WWI romantic period piece with some sci-fi elements sprinkled in), but the art and animation is so excellent that I'll probably keep watching it anyways. One thing I wasn't really clear on when watching the first episode though; is Violet literally a robot or just called one metaphorically due to her robotic behavior?
DamexPrince doesn't look amazing, but I like the premise of a deadpan princess surrounded by a bunch of useless idiot princes.

Also she physically gets older as you can see in flashbacks, which isn't the sort of thing that happens with robutts.

Junji Ito Ep 2 - "Fashion Model" was just as unsettling as I remember. "Long Dream" just kinda made me sad.
Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens Ep 1 - Didn't really know anything going in besides a trailer. Gave me a lot of Baccano vibes - from the jazzy tunes to the various factions and the town full of criminals. I'm totally down for it.

Darling in the Franxx Episode 1 - Pretty interesting setup. The whole "kills you after three uses" thing kinda reminds me of Bokurano but I assume that the protag will be immune to that for some reason or another.

Checked out the first ep of Killing Bites this morning. It's ultraviolent fanservice-laden shlock, but coming in expecting that I actually found it pretty entertaining.
Fanservice shows live and die on the appeal of their main heroines, and Hitomi has a kind of feral sexiness that sets her apart from most doe-eyed heroines. The action itself isn't the best, showing some fairly obvious animation shortcuts in the form of camera cutaways, but still manages to keep things fast and frenetic enough (along with pulse-pounding rock music) to be engaging.
On the other hand, the male lead Yuya is not very likeable so far. His introductory scene being acting as the unwitting getaway driver for a bunch of rapist "friends" doesn't exactly earn him sympathy right off the bat. Even though he didn't know what he was getting into, it still makes him the kind of guy who needs to take several moments (exactly how long was he driving that car?) of serious thought deciding whether to stop a girl from being brutally raped.
I'll keep watching for Hitomi and to see what kind of animal-themed freakazoids the show pits against her next (going by those quills I'm guessing the next girl is half-porcupine) though.
Beatless is shit.
