It's not sudden. While she could have said something, if you pay attention you could see Kokoro was never comfortable with how Futoshi treated her. She didn't say anything because partners were suppossed to be fixed and she didn't want to cause trouble. Futoshi/Kokoro's synchro ratios were also very low all the time.
