It's a term coined by the fans of the original Star Trek series. Basically, whenever Kirk and one or more of the other officers beamed aboard (usually Spock or McCoy), they also had at least one ensign with them whose sole purpose was to be killed in a period-appropriate gruesome manner to highlight the dangers of their mission, and original-series ensigns wore red shirts.

Between other projects both here and off-site, being overworked at my job, some health and other such issues which I'm not going to discuss... yeah this has kind of fallen by the wayside. I've looked at giving this another go but whenever I consider it, something else always seems to come up whether it be work or my own life. I would say I'll try and get things started again in a few weeks but honestly given that I haven't been able to post properly for this in a while now, I'm debating whether to just call it a day.

I'll give a proper update in a few days.
