Funny how such an uninteresting, boring and bland character like Sieg garners such attention. :thonking2:
Either way, I find both mcs interesting in their own way. Shirou is a broken toy which clings to a concept to feel and be alive. Sieg is an expendable power source who escaped his recycle bin to survive. One lives to see where his path will take him, the other wants to know the world he chose to live in. Both in a type of story I personally love: self-discovery. Both doing really stupid things and really heroic things. Both being shunned by their enemies and loved by their friends. (both kicking the ass of someone with Kotomine in their name, hue).
I give both of them a 9/10.
O walls, you have held up so much tedious graffiti that I am amazed you have not already collapsed in ruin.
I liked Sieg better when he was called Arcueid, had boobs and was overpowered.
but now seriously, there are only so many ways to write a story about a humanoid alien discovering humanity
don't quote me on this
I'd rather watch Kirito in Apo than Sieg.
And that's an insult to a character as bad as Kirito.
Express, Have you gone totally craycray?!
^This.
It's possible to write entire essays on why Kirito is a failure as a character, as a protagonist, as a fictitious human being in general. Trust a guy who has firsthand experience of it. It's actually less that I "wrote it," so much as it "happened to me." Before I knew what I'd done, three hours had passed, and there were approx. ten pages of polite, if rather condescending, hate and rage.
I have no idea where I posted them anymore...
The guy is literally the personification of a NEET's wet dream, except from the third person perspective. He's marginally better in Progressive actually, for the singular reason that there are more male characters. He's still inexplicably a chick magnet though. For literally no reason comprehensible to the human mind. Maybe Cthulhu could figure it out...
Although, one of the things that makes Progressive fun to read is Asuna's near-constant abuse of him. Like, seriously, she hits him a lot in those LNs...
Sieg on the other hand is a boring homunculus. Had the end of Apocrypha been different, I believe there could have been a sequel series in which he actually gets interesting, because as deep in the red as he started out, he was almost approaching the point of breaking even by the end. That is all that I can really say about him. He's too empty to say anything else about. Oh! The sequel could be about Tool! She's a boring homunculus too, but less so because she's hilariously insensitive.

Likes attention, shiny objects, and... a ball of yarn?

Define "better".
.....Is this even a thing to be considered?
Shirou may be a dumb bastard, but as a character his development just sky-rockets throughout the 3 routes, making him a complete character, explored in all instances:
Blindly following his borrowed ideal (Fate), understanding the distorted nature of said ideal and choosing to go along with it, making the borrowed ideal his own (UBW), and abandoning the borrowed ideal to live towards a new one (HF).
Sieg has nothing to compare. At all.
True. I really can't see why anyone would prefer Sieg over Shirou, and I'm saying this as someone who genuinely likes Sieg.
Sieg can cook (Guda was surprised his food were good, so maybe he'll join Chef Emiya, Sous Chef Tamamo Cat and the moms in Chaldea's kitchen), he simply grabs the power to do so from the grail since he is the admin, so you can assume he would have any skills he choose to.
