i think you've mixed up the motive with the method unless you think he did all that just to get into her braccae

This may be just me, but honestly, it's not as if most of the "Apocrypha" cast isn't wasted due to bland writing (at least so far - 2 volumes, 1st season of the anime), so Sieg is hardly noteworthy in that respect. Him being initially a blank slate shouldn't have been an issue, because he had potential, he just needed a better writer (for instance, I find it very interesting that when compared to the Red and Black teams, all composed of heroes of myth and legend, Sieg's motivation is the only one which can be called noble, at least before Amakusa hijacks the plot).

Shirou. Objectively speaking. Sieg is boring, even among a cast of characters most of whom are at best two-and-a-half dimensional.

SpoonyViking does make a good point though. Near the end, he was actually getting to the point that if he hadn't turned into a dragon, he could have been an interesting character in a sequel-series.

Picture it: Sieg finally getting the whole "I'm a homunculus and don't care, bitch," thing down. And going traveling with Astolfo to make the world a better place. While flying around on temperamental bird-horse. But he did become a dragon, so that's unlikely to happen.

As for how I originally wanted to answer this thread:

Siegfried wanted to be a hero of justice and Atalanta wanted to make a world where children could be happy. In what sense was Sieg's wish the only noble one?

Well in Siegfried's case, his method for going about it was pretty damn stupid. As for Atalanta, she throws everything away in order to become a scantly clad rage monster (which, incidentally I'm still miffed about for not turning her into something akin to Dark Beast Ganon from Twilight Princess).

I'll admit though, Atalanta stays true to herself for most of the series though. Siegfried just goes and makes an impulse decision with no rational reason for doing it. Congratulations Siegfried, you've saved this one guy, because you wanted to, rather than having been asked to do it. Also, you're never gonna be able to do it ever again, so lots of people are probably going to die now and they could have lived if you had only not ripped your still-beating heart out like an Aztec witch-doctor and died! Nice going bro.

One, there wasn't any other methods with Gordes refusing to co-operate. Two, yes Siegfrieds decision isn't rational, that's the point. He did it because it was a good act to do, that was his only motivation. He didn't care about consequences, why would he? All he wanted to do was act in the name of justice, to do an action just because it was the right thing to do. That is why Siegfrieds action is noble. He didn't have any ulterior motives, he had no reason for saving that nameless homunculi who had no connection what so ever. He just did it because it was a good act, a noble act. An act everyone would want to do if they believed themselves to be good but doesn't because logically they would opt for self-preservation instead of sacrificing themselves for a random nobody, even if they had the power to. That is what Siegfried did, he saw a person dying thus acted to save him because that was right, was justice. That is Siegfrieds kindness. This was an act that Siegfried never did when he was alive, when he just acted as a machine (hero) for the masses, where even if he did good acts he also did evil acts because that was what the people wanted. That was why as a Servant he wishes not to follow the wishes of others or even act towards his needs, just to follow what is right and what would be justice. That is why Siegfried is noble.

That's my thoughts on it anyhow.

I'd say don't bite my head off, but you're right.

He could have done much more though, had he lived. There were sure to be plenty of situations that he could have helped with and done the right thing for its own sake.

sorry if I came a little up in the face there. I just really like Siegfried, he's one of my favs. So I tend to dig deep at anything I read about him.
