There wasn't much of choice. You looked around the room, eyes cautious, level-headed. You'd come for glory, for the practice – what the hell, you couldn't fool yourself. You'd come for the money. Everyone had.
It was absurd; three full tons of gold bullion, shipped by train to the fast-growing confines of the Big Apple from the streets of San Francisco itself. Oh, they'd tried to keep it secret, but word had gotten out, and you had been the only people fast and competent enough to jump on it.
You couldn't let this opportunity pass by if your life depended on it. The idea – just the words had made your blood start to boil. You wouldn't be here if you hadn't thought it sounded good. You needed the cash, or the thrill. An even split, huh?
Well... you looked around again, eyeing up your allies – and your competition. There were always accidents on jobs like this. A heavily guarded train, protected by all the power money could reasonably buy? Sure, some of you wouldn't be walking home. Some of you wouldn't ever be walking again. But hey, the less there were, the more money for you, right?
Either way, the leader, the brains of the operation was going to come soon. Standard tactics, keeping you waiting a little to establish power. Soon enough, though, you'd get your time to shine.
----------------------------------This is a remake of the original RRTC RP, from four years ago (crazy, right?). Back then I had little experience under my belt, and while what we had was good, I was never quite satisfied with it. To give the gist of the original;
That's the long and short of it, but after four years of practice, and quietly tweaking this in my spare time, I feel it's time to come back and see it through to the end. I'm afraid to say it's not a lemon, but it's something I've always been passionate about.So, yeah, this is an RP with a single job: You're going to pull off a train robbery. Not just any train robbery - no, you're robbing from a little corporation called Nebula. It might sound familiar to some of you, but this little business is anything but little. In fact, they're one of the largest business ventures in the world - they have their hand in everything from medicine to information – even magic.
That's right, magic exists. However, it's a limited resource at this point, because the mainstream discovery of magic at this point hasn't happened yet. Oh, sure, it can't stay hidden forever – but there are a lot of people making damn well sure it stays hidden for as long as possible. That being said, magic here isn't really like magic you've seen. In fact, it'd be fair to say that people don't work spells, but just bear the effects. That's why, like in Baccano, here you have people who drank of the Elixir of Eternal life, made contracts, hold artifacts, and so on. No slinging fireballs or freezing time, sadly.
Anyways, moving on...The setting is America, 1932, over the course of at most a week and a half. As some of you probably guessed, it takes its cues from Baccano, along with some other influences, though there won't be any characters showing up. I'm still figuring this out a little myself, so bear with me, and we can make this, if not great, then decent. Slots are capped at six for now, because I haven't been a GM in a long time.
As you might expect, combat is going to be a fair part of this – the role-play itself will be freeform. First comes planning, and then comes the robbery when the train rolls into town. Nebula is good, and while there will be some passengers on the train, they haven't spared much expense in the way of security.
While the prize is great, the risks might be even greater – so keep a level-head and aim as high as you can.
Slots will remain on the small side, no more than five - I don't want to overload myself, and, well, a ten-plus person train heist isn't terribly subtle. If you'd like to resubmit, old players, feel free! Slots will be merit-based, and I'm almost always available to talk, in the thread, PMs, or outside.
The game is fast, or designed to be, with gameplay taking place over a maximum of a week and a half in-game. Each day will be split into three phases, Morning, Afternoon, and Evening, to give players chances to prepare, advance their respective arcs, and perhaps even get to know each other a little better. However, once you've reached the actual robbery stage, phases will cease to exist. There's not too much leisure time when you're in the middle of something like that, you know?
Character creation is still on the old school side. You have the freedom to design your character more or less as you wish, and so while there are no numerical stats, your abilities are more important to make up for it. Combat may happen, or it may not, so think hard about what you want to do, since in the end, it boils down to the strength of your planning. And remember-
