Not really. It will have an effect on the part of the EU that wants closer integration, yes, but the EU itself will survive just fine.

Pardon my partial lack of knowledge of this, but which countries are these?

I wasn't talking more about individuals than about countries, TBH. After all, the opinions of countries tend to vary rather a lot over time, according to who happens to be in power at that particular moment.

However, in general, Germany and France are the countries which tend to push integration more, and the UK tends to be the one resisting it.

Have the Germans started changing their minds on that, Greek bailout and all?

As much as I'd like to believe that, it can't be true, unless some kind of perfect storm hits the rest of the world. Just by economic growth alone, China, India, or both, will be sharing space with us in the future. At a likely guess, whoever wins over there gets the eastern sphere of influence, we get the western, and Africa and SA decide who to jump with.

Shouldn't the fact that 6 million men in China are without a chance at a wife have some negative impact on them in the future?

Is it a social problem? Of course. Is it the kind of thing that will fundamentally threaten China as a organized nation (which would have to happen)?

Yes, it will. But I can't see it being the kind of effect that would significantly impair China's current growth.

actually some analysis I had read said that Germany's over eager push for the bail outs was demonstrating perhaps a larger desire for integration then had previously been understood.
