The game slows down and starts to get much harder once you hit the 2-4 area, I produced so many guns I ran out of ammo, and I can't for the life of me find any 3*s to Dummy to my already existing ones.

It's actually a somewhat good idea to craft a lot at the moment, since there are rather few guns in the pool in total, so it's easier to get whoever you don't have (statistically). Other than that though, you're sort of recommended to only craft 4 times a day (for dailies) since events come with rate-ups for 4* and 5* crafting (like flash fest in gbf if I understood it correctly), but that's obviously after you have at least enough good guns to make a single good team that you can focus on.
Yeah, I basically blazed through the first 20k of each resource we got from career & main missions just randomly making stuff from recipes other players used, and only checked out the game's Reddit yesterday. Realised today my finances aren't in the best shape.
I'm fine on good guns for the moment, I've got a bunch of good ones, but most of the best are Rifles and MGs, and those seem to take up a TON of ammo every time I deploy them, according to Some Guy On Reddit(TM), so I've dropped my powerlevels from like 2600 to <2000 getting together ARs and SMGs and the smaller caliber stuff. If it's worth it to buy extra Echelon slots, I'll soon have a spare Echelon team with massive firepower for bosses and tricky situations.

Rifles aren't that draining, you can easily use a 2RF 3HG team if you have the guns for it. MGs on the other hand... Yeah, best to hold off on those for a while (unless you want to level them solely for data sim for now).
And yeah, generally advised to unlock 8 echelon slots first with any gems you get (so that you have 4 for logistics, 4 for battle), then gun slots since that'll be needed, and then it's more whatever you want.
So 2nd anniversary stream happened for CN GFL and a bunch of shit dropped but most of it was game stuff (costumes, guns, rocket launchers) we won't get for another 2 years so I'll skip over most of that
